Firefox is only usable in full screen mode?

Firefox is only usable in the full screen mode. If in standard mode (I guess that would be what it's called), the scroll bar is unusable, and scrolling down the page with the arrow keys causes Firefox to black out the website. But ONLY in standard mode.
In both viewing modes, the "right-click" menu exhibits the same symptoms when the mouse travels over the options. While the mouse is hovering over the menu, these options remain black, until such time as the mouse no longer is "directly over" the menu. They become visible again, and this process is repeated once the mouse begins to travel over the menu.
This only happened because of the installation of Firefox 4.

You can check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • How do i get firefox to not be in full screen mode without a mouse or keyboard?

for some reason Firefox switched to full screen mode and i can't get out of it. I'm using Firefox on a tablet PC running windows 8.1 so using F11 or a mouse is not an option. at least i assume it's full screen mode. i can't see my bookmarks bar, my address bar, or even the windows task menu at the bottom of the screen, where my virtual keyboard is located at. i can get to the settings menu (i have Firefox set to start on a new page) but i can't find bookmark bar, address bar, or full screen settings there. I tried using IE11 to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it but it kept the setting. A "turn off full screen mode" button in the settings would be super helpful or a "force show address bar" button.

By the way, if Firefox is ''stuck'' in full screen mode, I think you could clear that by removing the settings file which stores window dimensions. Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
''If none of those is available: Use the Run command (or maybe the charms bar search box), type or paste the following and tap Run/Search or Enter on the virtual keyboard:''
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
''Then double-tap into your most recently updated semi-randomly-named profile folder.''
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * (menu bar) File > Exit
''If neither of those is available, try using one of the standard Windows ways of exiting a program.''
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''xulstore.json''' to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.
Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?

  • Firefox won't stay in full screen mode

Whenever I navigate away from a page or switch tabs in full screen mode, firefox goes out of it. I find this particularly annoying and I don't remember having this problem in earlier versions. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
edit: Just discovered it was an issue with the extension "ImageTweak"

    Hi,
Which method did you use to get Internet Explorer to open as full mode?
I have no dual monitor to do a test. however, you could try the kiosk mode, unless you remove the "-k" parameter, it won't toggle out of kiosk mode.
    The detailed steps is below:
    1. Right click the shortcut you used to open the Internet Explorer.
    2. Select its properties, in the Shortcut tab, click
Target text box, move your cursor to the very end of the text in it.
    3. Type " -k" at the end without quotation marks. You must precede the hyphen with a space as below.
    4. Click Apply and OK to finish it.
Note: Through this method, you must close the entire browser using a keyboard shortcut, such as "Alt-F4" or "Ctrl-W."

  • Firefox 12 keeps starting in full-screen mode.

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 12, it wants to start up in full screen mode. I dopn't mean the extreme full screen mode where even the menu bar is hidden. I mean the more "typical" full screen mode where it just gets as large as possible but has the same content. I tried forcing a new profile (by renaming. ~/.mozilla/firefox) and that fixed it. But then as soon as I brought back the bookmarks toolbar and exited, it was back to starting in full screen mode again. I wish there was something in preferences for this. I NEVER want it to start in full screen mode. This is Ubuntu 11.10.

    Thanks for your reply.
It does not maximize (I think that's the term I should have used) when starting in safe mode. But I think the reason is that it has a smaller window when it starts in safe mode. If I increase the size of the window beyond a certain point, then when I exit and restart FF, it auto-maximizes. If I delete localstore.rdf, again it comes up not auto-maximized. But again, if I make the window a little bigger, exit and restart, then it does come up auto-maximized. And if I make it smaller before exiting, it will come up properly. I really believe this is a Ubuntu/Unity problem. Unity has a very irritating tendency to maximize windows all on its own. When I upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04, I'm hoping there will be an easy way to tell it not to do this.

  • My safari window is disappearing in non full screen mode OSX Lion

    Hi Guys,
I seem to have the following problem. not sure exactly how it started as my wife was using the mac at the time (she says she just dragged the safari to different desktop via mission control) but now the situation is as follows:
When I hit safari icon it switches on (I can see the little light dot underneath the icon and after right click I can see names of windows that are opened) however I can only see the Safari menu at the top but no window. If I scroll to the right or left to different desktops it's not there, the same goes if I double tap to see the Mission Control mode it's not there...
I so far figured out that once the Safari menu is visible on top of the screen I can go to View>Enter Full Screen and then Safari will come back into the full screen mode but once I unclick the full screen button in right top corner the whole window just swoops into the right top corner and it's nowhere to be found again.
I have rebooted and it's still the same - I can only get the full screen mode or none. it's very weird. Anyone's got any suggestions?

    Thank you,
That's not it -  Hot corners are not active, it's more like when you normally click the full screen on/off button (the two arrows facing each other) the transition happens with gray apple background and it moves either to or from full screen but here the background comes on and the window just goes into the corner and it's gone. Then when in Safari menu I go View>Enter Full Screen the window comes back exactly the same way: from top right corner into the whole screen.
Like I can only use Safai in Full Screen mode..

  • When opening PDF-files in full screen mode, the screen becomes transparant and makes the PDF unreadable. How to solve this?

this only happens in full screen mode. In normal screen nothing is wrong

Hello Community please can anyone help out with this request, all I need is an answer to whether it can be done or not?

  • Aperture screwing with brightness in full screen mode

For some reason whenever I go into full screen mode Aperture keeps adjusting the brightness of my images. Every time I do anything it first looks "normal" then the brightness gets jacked up a few percentage points. When I turn on the Loupe, the image shown inside the loupe is darker (as it should be) as this odd "auto brightness" effect doesn't show up there. When not in full screen mode this doesn't happen. Saving the photo results in the correct image as well. So long story short this is only happening in full screen mode.
I tried disabling the "On screen proofing" but it doesn't seem to have an effect. This is driving me nuts because I have no way to see the ACTUAL image until I save it! Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Another update: I changed my external display to "default" in ColorSync Profiles as recommended in another thread, still have the same problem.
I have now noticed that this phenomenon only occurs when the image being displayed on screen has to be scaled down to fit - so apparently there is something going on with Aperture's image preview being created on the fly?

  • Getting out of full screen mode in Messages

I'm using mountain lion and I'm stuck in full screen mode in Messages. How can I get out of that?
    thanks for any suggestions.

    hi,
So if you move the mouse to the top of the Screen you do not see this (top right) ?
This was a pic of Firefox that I put in Full Screen Mode first.
Then I moved the pointer to the top of the Screen and the Menu Bar appears.
Far Right is the blue reverse action/Windowing icon.
In Firefox I can also enter the View Menu and select the Exit option (from Full Screen) from there once the Menu bar has appeared.
It is late where I am and it will be a while before I reply again.
It is also why I don't have Messages open at the moment.

  • Mobile Safari Crash when using an iFrame in Full Screen mode (Icon launch)

Platform: iPad 2/3/mini iOS 8.1 (Other versions seem to show the same behavior)
    The Problem:
I am making an html5 app that is running in full screen mode by adding it to the homescreen and using the <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes"> tag to hide Safari.
When altering the source of an iFrame to an asset (mov, mp3, etc), Safari in turn will crash ONLY when in full screen mode. If I am browsing my app out of full screen mode, the assets load without a problem.
The odd thing is, the default browser player for these assets change in appearance when using the full screen mode.
I have setup a page to reproduce the crash:
    Navigate to: http://instapark.me/roi
Click on the big red mp3 button, an mp3 will play in the iframe.(No crash)
Click on the big red mov button, an mov file will play in the iframe. (No crash)
    Add to your homescreen.
    Launch from homescreen icon.
Click on the big red mp3 button, an mp3 will play in the iframe.(No crash, but it will not play.)
Click on the big red mov button, an mov file will play in the iframe. (crash!)

It is already switched off because it's a known issue that the macbook pro mid 2010 has kernel panics with the discrete gpu.
    Any other guesses?
*Also please note that this is probably a safari issue since chrome works fine. But I can't read crash logs so any help would be appreciated.

  • Fixed window when replying in full screen mode is limiting - any fix?

If I have  mail in full screen mode then click reply to an email, the message scrolls up from the bottom of my screen, ready for me to type.  The problem is that it's then the only active window and sometimes I want to click on one of the windows in the background to copy some text that I wish to paste into my reply.  Is there a way to prevent this?  Graphically it looks beuatiful, but practically it's very limiting and only happens whenin full screen mode.

Unfortunately, that is a problem that exists in OS X when working Full Screen mode.  I find full screen mode to be problematic at best and don't use it for that reason.  I just enlarge the individual windows that I'm working with manually by clicking and dragging the lower left corner of the window.
    Hope this helps

  • Banding in Aperture 3.3.2 Full Screen Mode

A few raw images (Panasonic LX-5) are exhibiting a kind of two-tone gradient when in full-screen mode.   The image will be sharply divided into two regions: one lighter than the other.   It only happens in full screen mode on 3.3.2 on my Mac Pro (ATI5770, NEC2690WUXI).   Doesn't happen in Aperture 3.2.   Doesn't happen on my '08 MBP, '10 MBA running 3.3.2.    Also it doesn't affect every photograph - only about two or three out of about 300 and different ones each time I restart Aperture.

I need to add that the problem appears to be intermittent - it doesn't happen every time.

  • How do I set Firefox to start on login in full screen mode and permanently disable the tool bars?

I am trying to set up a touch screen windows 7 lenovo desktop for use by older users with no prior experiance of PC's. I would like Firefox to start on login and open in full screen mode, with all toolbars disabled. Is this possible? and if so how do I go about doing this?

If you close Firefox 4 while in full screen mode then the browser should start in full screen mode the next time. That setting is stored in localstore.rdf in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder].
If you want to prevent toolbars from opening if you hover to the top then hide the full-screen-toggler with code in userChrome.css
Add code to userChrome.css below the @namespace line.

  • Can only view Mail in full-screen mode

After installing Yosemite, I can only view the main Mail window in Full Screen mode, unless I check "Classic View" in Preferences. Classic view does not help much, because it does not show the preview, which is essential to me. If I exit fullscreen mode, the minimized window appears for a split-second and then disappears down the left bottom corner of the screen and you cannot find it anywhere. The only way to see anything again is to go to Mail - View - Full Screen. Any help is much appreciated.
