Firefox is opening a new window 'Index of file:'

Seemly randomly, firefox 9.0.1 is opening a new window with 3 or 4 tabs of " Index of file:"

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

• How do I get firefox to open a new window when i click on a link in a webpage ?

When I click on a link in a webpage in Firefox, generally it opens the new page in the window i am in (though some times it does not). How do I get it to open a new window (or tab) each time I click a link.
For example, on www.bbc.co.uk if I click on a link, the new page opens in the same window, if I then click another link in the new window, again, it opens in the same window. To get back to the original window, I have to use the back button twice. Surely there is a setting so that all 3 windows can be open on separate tabs or separate windows.
I have been to the tabs window in options, but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Open link/bookmark in new tab in same window:
*Middle-click (press the mouse scroll wheel) the link
*Ctrl+left click the link
*right-click the link, choose "Open Link in New Tab"
Open link/bookmark in new window:
* Shift+Enter on the link
* Shift+left click on the link

• How do I change firefox to open a new window when I start it several times instead of opening a new tab when I want to go to a different location?

I want to go to several different websites at the same time. I want to compare the information on each site. I do not want to open a tab, I want a whole new window. How do I change firefox so it will open a new window instead of opening a new tab and then requesting the site I want to go to?

In Windows XP I am able to right click a link and get an option to open it as a new Firefox window
*'''tear off tabs'''
You will probably note tabs can be dragged along the tab toolbar, they also tear off. You can click a tab and drag it off the browser onto the Windows Desktop where it will open as a new window, or drag it on to another open browser window.
An alternative is to click the tab and drag it down, again it will then open in a new Window.

• Firefox is Opening each new window in new tab even though I have this option turned off

Firefox 6.0.2 on Windows 7.
Under the '''Tools''' menu,''' Options''', '''Tabs''' "tab", I have "''open a new window in a new tab instead''" '''not''' checked.
But, I am opening tabs galore. It is very frustrating. How do I get Firefox to navigate to a new URL in the same Tab so that I can use the back button?
I don't want to open dozens of new tabs as I navigate around in the same site.

You can also try to update to the latest Firefox 14.0.1 version to get the latest bug and security updates.

• How do I stop Firefox from opening a new window when I go to a search item?

When I do a search, and click on a topic, Firefox opens a new window on the tool bar at the bottom of my screen. How can I stop this from happening?

I'm guessing you use Google for search. There is a setting in Google search to open each result in a new window. (When you use tabbed browsing, that means each result opens in a new tab.) You can check on whether you have that setting turned on as follows:
On a Google results page, click the button on the right side with the "gear" icon, then click Search Settings from the drop-down list. At the bottom of the page is the setting to open results in a new window.
Is that the culprit?

• Why does firefox intermittantly open a new window when I click on an existing tab? This only happens when I have three or more tabs open.

Several times now Firefox 4.0.1, when clicking on a tab (three or more tabs open) I immediately moves that tab to it's own window and closes the tab in the existing window.

That is probably the "tear-off tabs" feature. A slight movement (usually downward) when clicking on an existing tab will cause that tab to "tear-off" and open in a new window. You can drag the tab back to the previous window. You can also install this add-on to stop the behavior: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

• My Google preferences are set to show search results in a new window. However, when I do a Google search, it Firefox always opens 2 new windows with the (same) results. How can I fix this?

I did not change my Google settings. I always have had it set to open search results in a new window. Some time ago, it started opening up two windows that have identical url/content.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

• Firefox always opens a new window with ad.yieldmanager

As soon as i click on an image or other views on a website firefox opens a new tab with adyieldmanager and i cant get rid of it.

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware/malware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

• Why does Firefox sometimes open a new window when I navigate to an existing tab?

I often have 7 or 8 tabs open in Firefox. Sometimes when I click on a tab, Firefox opens it in a new window instead of just going to that tab. I haven't figured out a pattern when it does this.

A very slight movement (usually downward) will cause the tab to "tear off"/"tear away" into a new window. You can drag the tab back to the original window from the new window.
You can install this Add-on to stop the "tear off"/"tear away" behavior:

• Firefox prevents opening a new window - I want it to open them.

When I click on a link in my gmail, it opens a new tab with this message and have to choose "allow". I want it to just open the link in a new tab.
"Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page. [Allow]"

See:
*Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

• How can I force firefox to open every new window at full size of the screen ?

When I firefox, it reloads my opened windows, but not always at full size.
So I have to resize each window manualy.
Is it possible to force firefox to open every window at full size of the screen ?
Or is it possible to Maximize every window already open in one click ? (like the use of CTRL key in Windows)

Try experimenting with this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
By the way, if you have McAfee Site Advisor installed, disable it because it interferes with the way Firefox functions.

• Tabs disappear and open a new window when editing files in Wordpress

When editing files in Wordpress built-in code editor, if I highlight and try to copy/paste to another file or even within the same file the tab I am on will often abruptly close and then reopen itself in a whole new window. This is extremely disruptive. I have to close the window that popped open and go back to my browser instance with the open tabs and create a new tab for that page then restore my tabs in their previous order. The have to do it all over again a few minutes later.
Never had any type of trouble like this with previous versions of Firefox, and nothing else has changed on this PC.

Hi Nicolas,
I don't know about a pop-up, but if you are trying to open a page (page 2) in a new window (internet explorer window), then do the following:
Instead of using a navigate pushbutton, use a hyperlink component.
In the URL selection option insert the URL (web address) of page 2. You can find the URL by going to SE80, in the repository browser select "BSP Application" and "THE TECHNICAL NAME OF YOUR BPS". Open your BSP and go to the folder "pages with flow logic" and find your "page 2". Double click on your page and then select the "properties" tab and navigate to the bottom where you will see the pages URL.
Insert this URL address into your hyperlink component back in the Web Interface Builder.
Leave the Target selection as parent. Make sure your internet explorer enhanced options are set to "not reuse the same window" under the browser options.
Good luck.
Rael

• Firefox always opens a new window when i click the icon on my task bar...this is new and I would like it to say in the same window How?

I have a firefox icon on my task bar. Before this latest install, I would click the icon and Firefox would come up directly. Now it opens another firefox window. I don't want this. How can I change it back?

Click on the spotlight icon in the top right of your screen (looks like a magnifying glass), type
Terminal
and press 'return'.
In the window that opens up, paste or type this exactly into the window
killall Finder; killall Dock
(that's case sensitive) and press 'return'.
You'll notice the Dock disappear for a second or two then return, as do any open Finder windows.
Test using Finder as normal. Same problem?
