Firefox is preventing some files from downloading off the internet

Today I had to go to the Dell website to update some drivers for my laptop. Every time I downloaded the driver file from the site to the download manager and then clicked on it to run, I would get a message that there was no file to download. The tech from Dell then had me download Google Chrome and the downloads went smoothly without a hitch. Something in Firefox is preventing the Dell files from downloading. I need instruction on how to correct this problem. I am also wondering why when I go to download files using firefox I do not get an option to run the file instead of save it. II only get the option to save it and then have to click on it from the download manager to run it. I would like to change this as well if possible

It is possible that you run into this maximum (the default value is 20):

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

For whichever file type you are trying to download (.SIT, .MOV, .DMG) usually the software that is designed to handle that file type (which needs to be previously installed) will automatically open. It sounds like you are downloading a file type that you have no app installed to actually open.
As the post before mine replied, we would need to know the file type/extension to better answer your problem.

Read documentation for URLConnection (and HttpURLConnection) these classes can use proxy (set via system properties as mentioned in documentation), you can obtain InputStream to download remote file.
Working behind firewall depends on firewall and its configuration.

Yes, I'm trying to download something to without it automatically using itunes as default or the itunes symbol.
I have gone to tools>options>applications and that doesn't seem to work. Even when it asks me what program to use and I choose winzip the download is STILL itunes.
Very very... very frustrated that i cannot even seem to do such a basic thing as change my default download options. I was able to in previous firefox versions but do not recall what i did, or maybe it has changed in newer versions and I am not any longer able to for some reason?
Tbh because I purchase and download quite a bit of music and other different files online this may prove to be a deal breaker and I am considering for the first time since Netscape recommended I use firefox changing to chrome or microsoft explorer or whatever the other browswers are.

Can you prevent Apple TV from connecting to the internet?

Is there a way to prevent Apple TV from updating and connecting to the internet? My internet is metered and slow, and I just use the AtV to mirror my itunes and stream content from my computer. I do not need the AtV connecting to the internet to load previews, pictures of newest tv shows or even genius recommendations.

The main problem is that for protected content in iTunes AppleTV sometimes needs to get a playback authorisation across the internet.
I've never quite figured what triggers this but it's often when content is new and hasn't been played on the computer before.
I took AppleTV, iPad and MacMini on holiday where I had no internet access and created a LAN without internet.
It was impossible to Airplay protected content from the iPad but 90% of the protected content in itunes on teh Mac Mini would stream and play - some new kids shows I purchased and had not played before would not stream.
Don't suppose you can connect the computer direct to AppleTV via ethernet and see if that lets you stream and play without internet connectivity?
Alternatively can you seletively turn off your router at times to avoid AppleTv connecting - that usually makes it only display Computers (iTunes streaming locally) and Settings as teh other icons are generated dynamically depending on availability tested via Apple's servers.

... I bought C418's minecraft volume alpha for 4 dollars, and backed up my ipod for the sole reason of trying to get it onto my itunes library. APPARENTLY, itunes only backs up purchased content. The album disappeared completely from my ipod! I'm beginning to lose patience with itunes...

I keep trying to download maverick from the app store but it does nothing. is there somewhere else I can try. I would really like it so I can update my other programs. Help.

If you download Mavericks from any other sources, it is pirated software and you could get some unexpected malware along with it. It's also a violation of the license agreement, so there's no telling what might happen down the road.
When you say it "does nothing" do you mean it doesn't begin to download, it doesn't change from "purchase"?
It is a very slow download process and can be misleading. Check to see if there is a loading bar under your AppStore icon on your Dock or in Launchpad.

You cannot download tracks straight to the iPod. They need to be added to your iTunes library and then synced to your iPod.

When printing anything off the internet it shrinks the full page into one forth of the full page. How can i print using the enitre page?

I push the print button and my printer prints the entire page in one forth of the space. I had one game permanently just stop working, it usually does crash, but that last time it just went bad, I don't know the reason, I tried powering off iPod, relaunching game, but the game never worked again. I think it corrupted its own save file or some of its own data.
Have you tried another game or app, do those work? If they do, then I guess you know where the problem lies, but if they all stop working, then what about apps, can apps launch?
Lastly, apps from the app store are checked by Apple, so they are clean.

Never having locked a Numbers document, I don't have first hand experience.
I put my sensitive documents in an encoded disk image file. Less bother. But then, I'm not e-mailing sensitive documents or otherwise exposing them.

If the filename starts with a dot (.thisfile), then it will be hidden on the Mac.
You can use a 3rd party App, such as EasyFind to search for the file on your Mac, and then re-name (remove the dot)

When I click on the icons for sites I use regularly I get an annoying message and have to click x's and "allow"s several times to get it to go away. The message is a smug "Firefox has prevented this page from automatically reloading." Who asked it to suddenly start doing that? Why?

The Idea shure was great, just the implementation is not usuable for many people as seen by the number of people that post about it... and the ones that are annoyed but don't post.
There are 2 main Problems here:
1) redirect and reload, even so they are similar in what they do, really need two seperate options. While most people will like a web application, monitoring or news site to refresh their information by reloading most people do not like to be redirected from "soundslikeadeal.com" to "drivebydownloadsandhacks.net". Allowing to reload and blocking the redirect would make a lot of sense for many users...
2) Like the option to display or not display pictures for a website, this option should be able to set on a per site setting and the Dialog "Firefox prevented this page from automatically reloading" should not just offer the option to "Allow" for one single reload (as it does now!) but to "whitelist" as in "remember this decission" or "Always Allow reload/redirect for this Site". This would be a real Security improvement because it would allow us to by default disallow the redirection even if we need it enabled for some website that we need for our daily work!
