Firefox is rendering a page in quirks mode on one machine, but not on a different machine.

I have two machines that are going to the same website. One machine renders the page correctly, the other enters quirks mode and nothing appears on the screen.
The machine that is not working is running OS X 10.6.4. The one that is working is running 10.4.11.
I tried deleting the preferences, and reinstalling Firefox.
This is a brand new install of the OS and was the first time we tried access this website.

The problem is due to a call to getVolumeInformation. It works on my desktop but not on a different machine which has different drives and partitions etc. I'm returning the file system type of the fixed drives, however on certain fixed drives it fails. At first I thought it was failing on logical drives but that does not seem to be the case.This is nonsense in terms of your original post.
Perhaps you meant to say that some of your native methods work and others dont? And the one and only way that they don't work is because you get the link error? If yes then I already told you what the reason is.
Conversely there is some other failure, which has nothing to do with a link error. And thus it is pointless to continue to discuss this unless you actually explain what is happening.

    Hey thanx for the help, it worked like a charm.
    I think firefox changed the application lay out, as I used to be able to choose my PDF opener from the list at " Adobe Acrobat Forms Document' where I could choose Nitro-PDF reader, but it has now moved all the way to the bottom like you suggested to the obvious place of "Portable Document Format" section.
    If someone didn't tell me , I wouldn't have scrolled all the way down to be able to find it... it really should be with all its cousins up the top...
    Cheers again..

  • Selective Mode Pubshing (See it but NOT Try it, etc.)

    I am trying to publish player content for my partner organization. They would like the "SEE IT" and "PRINT IT" but not the other modes. When I publish, I always get ALL the player modes.
    Looking at the topic properties, it appears as though you can check some rather than all modes. But when I publish, all modes are published regardless.
    I tried to provide a link to only the "SEE IT" content but it required a player package. I tried this out on a machine and ran the installer for the player package. It still brought me to a page with all the other modes on there.
    Surely there must be a way to selectively publish. Cannot find in any resolution in my UPK documentation.

    Hi es,
    I managed to get my UPK 11 to only show "See It", "Try it" and "Print it". It seems like 'Try it" is hand-in-hand with "See it", so I could therefore not get rid of "Try it".
    As you have done, ensure that "See It/Try it" is selected as the mode for EACH frame within the topic - this is changed in the "Show in" block under the Frame Properties.
    Then, when you publish, you must change some options too. Get to the stage of the publishing wizard where you have the tick boxes available to you to choose what and how to deploy content. Select the "Player and LMS" option, and look at the properties on the right. Under Player Preferences, ensure that the default mode is "See It". On the same properties, further down, there is a section called "Print It" - ensure that the Text Mode "See It/Try It" is selected here.
    Then, on the left again, choose the option that says "Standalone Topic Files" - preview the properties, and again, ensure that the Text Mode under "Print It" is set to "See It/Try It".
    Go ahead and publish - you may get errors as I did, stating that there is no "Do It" mode etc. This is fine.
    Preview the play.exe and then see if that is what you want?
    Best I could come up with - hope it helps somewhat!

  • Crash Affecting only One Login - But Not in Safe Mode

    I have an iMac (built-in iSight) that suddenly has problems with only ONE login (the other accounts on the machine work fine). The troubled login won't mount the desktop at all, even with the entire library folder removed. Ran DW utility, but that didn't help. The interesting thing is, if I boot in SAFE mode, the problem goes away.
    What am I missing? If there's a problem with some bit of startup code, driver, etc., why is it only affecting one login?
    I realize my info above is sketchy. Hoping it might be enough for somebody to offer a clue... thanks.

    Hi, Lonestar.
    An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. In this case, it would likely be a Login Item defined in the affected account. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem. Focus on the instructions concerning Login Items with the affected account.
    Good luck!

    Sounds to me like you've almost cracked it!
    You have one error that could cause problems and that's the stray </blockquote> tag.  Just delete it.
    The alt="" text will show as an error on the validator but that's easy to fix and worth doing.
    Here's an easy article on that: http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200412/the_alt_and_title_attributes/
    In one of your CSS files (JonzheaderindexCSS.css) you have this:
    body {
    margin-top: 20px;
    padding: 0;
    color: #666;
    font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
    font-size: 14px;
    line-height: normal;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    background-color: #E1B852;
    background-image: url(../images/orange%20plaid.jpg);
    background-repeat: repeat;
    html { overflow-y: scroll; }
    It should be like this:
    html {
    overflow-y: scroll;
    body {
    margin-top: 20px;
    padding: 0;
    color: #666;
    font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
    font-size: 14px;
    line-height: normal;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    background-color: #E1B852;
    background-image: url(../images/orange%20plaid.jpg);
    background-repeat: repeat;
    It looks like you have that rule repeated further down the page like this:
    html { overflow-y: scroll; }
    There's an extra curly brace there (}) anyway, so it is badly formed but the whole rule and extra curly brace can go.
    You can fix those errors but I have a sneaky suspicion that it isn't gong to solve the issue you describe.
    Fix those issues anyway and post back.  Maybe if you can show a screen shot of what you are seeing in DW it might help?
    Martin
    PS: It's never a good idea to have file names on the web that have spaces in.  Your background rule has this:
    background-image: url(../images/orange%20plaid.jpg);
    That .jpg should be orangeplaid.jpg or orangePlaid.jpg or orange_plaid.jpg and the change should be reflected in the reference to the image so, orangePlaid.jpg should be:
    background-image: url(../images/orangePlaid.jpg);

  • Both Firefox & IE crash even when I have disabeled plug-ins. I have installed new version of Firefox and problem continues. Seems to be related to Flash, but not sure. Firefox will stay open if I go to a page like Google. Also crashes in safe mode.

    Both browsers seem to crash when the web page wants plug ins to access pages. Simple ones like Google's home page, or these for example, work fine. I have run several scans with security software, including Malware (latest database), and they don't find anything.

    The problem began because my computer had to be sent in because it wouldnt turn on so i had to get it fixed they replaced the motherboard this was the second time the motherboard was replaced and once they did that my firefox hasnt worked the same. I can go on google chrome but thats not what i prefer to use.
    & when i right click on firefox it says troubleshoot so im assuming its built in to my computer. im not sure.
    I tried the profile manager to create a new profile and that has seemed to work so far. No crashing but it does freeze when i got to facebook and then i have to click ctr alt delete to open task manager to end firefox. It happened twice, the third time i went to google, then twitter and it didnt freeze. I then went to youtube and it froze. So Facebook and youtube make it freeze. Any idea why it does that?
    & thank you so much for helping and responding to me.

  • Firefox crashes randomly even with all extensions disabled and new profile, but not in safe mode

    Starting from about 2 weeks ago, Firefox has been crashing. The crashes is seemingly random, but normally happens when many pages/tabs are open. Also, all observed crashes happened in middle of some user operations. If I just leave it open(and loaded), it would never crash even after a long time.
    Also, the crashes would still happen even after ALL extensions are disabled manually. However it doesn't seem to happen in Safe Mode.
    After every crash, in the crash report dialog, the "Details" report would not respond. However I can open the reports using about:crashes.
    Before the crash would happen, sometimes the following ill-behaviors could be observed:
    * Firefox fails to render CJK characters, displaying them as square boxes instead
    * CJK IME(Namely Google Pinyin, an IME for Simplified Chinese) could no longer be activated in Firefox, neither on a webpage element nor on UIs of Firefox itself(i.e. address bar or search bar)
    The following has been tried but no luck:
    * Disable ALL extensions manually
    * Start a new profile
    * Reset Firefox
    * Uninstall/Reinstall Firefox
    * Switch from FX 14 to 15, then to 16 beta

    hello Rainarrow, some other users who have recently updated the graphics driver for their ati hardware (to ati catalyst version 12.8) have reported similar crashes. please try disabling hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general & see if this resolves the issue of frequent crashes for the moment.

  • Firefox only shows untitled page and "done" in the lower left, will not open any page.

    When I open Firefox I only get an untitled tab and "done" in the lower left. It will not open any web page. I have XP. I think this started when I installed AVG 2011. I have uninstalled the avg and still can't get it to work. My internet connection is work as I am getting my email through Outlook. I recovering to before this all happened and that did not help. Also, IE won't open, so I have no web browsing available.

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />

  • Using jump menu in one frame to open page in another frame - works in IE but not Firefox

    Hi,
    I'm a beginner designer. I've been working to create a template for a website in which there is a banner in a frame across the top and three frames beneath - left for navigation and middle and right for content that can be compared.
    I have created two jump menus in the left frame using Dreamweaver's option for it (insert/forms/jump menu): one menu to load pages in the middle frame (in the code this is 'left') and one menu to load pages in the right frame (in the code this is 'right'). Both menus use a go button.
    Using Internet Explorer and allowing active content to run it works fine. In Firefox clicking 'go' does nothing however I have links in this navigation that will open a page in the middle or right ('left' and 'right') frames and if I use these the jump menus will now work.
    How can I get it to work straight off?
    Any feedback is welcome (except regarding not using frames!).

    Given that it doesn't work initially in Firefox then it does once I load a page in the destination frame I decided to create a page with a link to the frameset. Using the link to get to the frameset the jump menu now works perfectly. Must be one of the wonders of using frames. Well I guess that's solved but out of curiosity, any ideas for why it wouldn't work when the frameset is loaded on its own?
    It might be due to the fact that you're using XHTML 1.0 Transitional, a DOCTYPE that does not support framesets. Try converting to HTML 4.01 Transitional or HTML 4.01 Frameset if you do not need or understand XHTML. Or use XHTML 1.0 Frameset if you really need XHTML.

  • Same page with tables works well on IE but not on Firefox or Safari

    This qs may have been asked already but I am new to the forum.
    I have created a page in DW using tables and everything fits beautifully in it. It works really well when tested on IE but all the alignments are way off on Mozilla Firefox and Safari(mac). I cant figure out why this is happening. I would like to site to work well on all 3 browsers.
    here is the page: http://3beespaperie.com/casablanca.htm
    as you can see, the top of the main photo should line up wiht the top of 'details'.  same with http://3beespaperie.com/rajkumar.htm where the top of the photo is in the same table and row as that of the orange text on the right.

  • How do I stop Firefox from auto-reloading pages after I close one window but not others?

    This happens when I have two or more separate Firefox windows open. If I close one, and then open a new window, it automatically goes to the sites that were open in the window I closed (as if it were restoring after a crash).
    This isn't an issue when I only have one window open, and I have already set the following:
    browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0
    How can I get this to stop?

    accessibility.blockautorefresh is not about restoring tabs from the previous session, but about preventing website from using the location response header to redirect to another website.
    Firefox will always reload web pages.
    Firefox always needs to reload tabs when you restore tabs from the previous session.
    *Tools > Options > General > Startup: [X] "Don’t load tabs until selected"
    If restore_on_demand is set, pinned tabs are restored on startup by default.
    When restore_on_demand is set to true, the restore_pinned_tabs_on_demand pref overrides that behavior, and pinned tabs will only be restored when they are focused.
    browser.sessionstore.restore_pinned_tabs_on_demand (pinned tabs)(false)
    browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand (default as set in Options -> Tabs)(true)
    browser.sessionstore.restore_hidden_tabs (tabs in other tab groups)(false)

    click on profile folder - "show folder", then a new window will open up. <br>in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''', delete or rename this file in case you haven't intentionally created it in the first place and restart firefox afterwards.
