Firefox is running but will not open even after re-installing

I have tried re-installing firefox but it still won't open. If I go onto task manager I can see that it is running in the background. I am currently using google chrome as my default browser.

I have three computers that are practicably clones of each other and the new itunes update failed on two of them but one worrked fine. Here is fix that worked for me. This fix was suggested by another member but I cannot recall or find his post. My system is WinXP sp3 with all the latest patches.
1. Download AirPort Utility 5.5.1 for Windows http://support.apple.com/downloads/
2. Open task Manager and stop the mdnsresponder process. The corrupted mdnsresponder will be using 50% of your cpu.
3. Open control panel / add remove programs. Find the bonjour app and click on it.
4. Note the corrupted version of bonjour 2.0.0.34 by clicking on the support link.
5. Uninstall bonjour
6. Restart Windows.
7. Install the AirPort Utility. This will install a good working version of mdnsresponder. Restart windows again.
8. Upon restart you will see a new the airport icon in your task tray. You can also find mdnsresponder.exe running under process in task manger with little or no cpu usage. Your bonjour app under add remove panel will now be version 1.0.106

I was unable to open Elements or Premier (V11) from the shortcuts on my Windows 7 (64) PC after years of use.  No related .exe file was found on a search of all drives.  I re-installed, and I have exactly the same problem.  How do I resolve this?

  • My computer thinks firefox is running and will not open browser window, error = firefox is already running, you need to terminate the process or restart computer. restart has no effect. what file would make the computer think firefox is running?

Reinstalling does not help. Computer locked up for unkown reason and this has happened ever since when i try to start firefox.
Is there a file I can delete or kill that will terminate this process?

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+is+already+running+but+is+not+responding
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • IPhoto library contains lots of gb but will not open pictures after upgrade to iPhoto ´11

Upgraded from iPhoto ´08 to iPhoto ´11 (9.5.1) and to OS Maverick (10.9.1).
In "Finder" the library still seem to contain lots of gigabytes of data, but when iPhoto open the library it reads 0 photos. I have tried rebuilt (option+cmd key when opening iPhoto), iPhoto library manager, I have purchased aperture which acts just like iPhoto. Quite a few pictures missing, starting to become desperate - anyone with other ideas? Any help appreciated!
    Thomas

    Give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Safari will not open, even after reboot

I have been having all sorts of problems with my iMac since installing Mavericks (Gmail integration was freezing everything, Maps just didn't work).
The latest is that Safari just will not open, period. I have rebooted several times and even reinstalled OS X via the Cmd+R on reboot, nothing. It hangs upon opening and needs a Force Quit. When restarting again, it asks if you want to reopen windows and it makes no difference if you say Yes or No.
Any ideas on what to do?

    Try deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

On your Mac you download the latest version through the App Store, not the iTunes Store. The iTunes Store gets you the iOS (mobile) version. The App store gets you the OS X (Mac) version. They are two separate apps.

  • Itunes is running but will not open after most recent 9.1 update w/Bonjour

I recently loaded the most recent update for Itunes 9.1 version on 3/31. Since then, I have not been able to open my Itunes. I think it might be related to Bonjour because I see that it was added during my most recent update and I have never had it on my computer before. Now, i cannot get back into Itunes. I installed the update but when I double click on the itunes icon to open the file - I get nothing. The screen never shows up. Yet when I go to the task bar it says itunes is running in the background but there is no evidence of this. Help - I have been installing and reinstalling for the past couple of days with no luck.

  • IPhoto will not open even after installation

After importing some photo images from a CD and beginning to edit (red eyes) a few of them, *iPhoto hung up* with the spinning ball. So, I tried to close the application and even shut down the iMac without success. Eventually, I just shut down the iMac using the on/off switch in the back of the globe. After starting it up again, I tried to restart iPhoto without success. Now iPhoto just won't open up. I have tried the MacOS X disk utilities at least twice; and I have used DiskWarrior without impact. I have removed and reinstalled iPhoto 4.0.1 from the iLife disk three times unsuccessfully. At this stage every time I try to start iPhoto, the unpopulated iPhoto screen (no images shown) appears then seems to time out and quit. *I have a LaCie storage disk with pretty recent saves, including the iPhoto and its library.* But, when I tried to transfer that latest iPhoto copy to the iMac, it would not seem to work. Anyone have useful ideas for me?

I've corrected one problem and generated another, I'm afraid. I could not seem to load the iPhoto files, even though the screen said it was loading. So, I followed a suggestion found on this forum to restart iPhoto and create a new photo library first, then drag the older photo library folder into that newer folder. It did not specify whether I should select all folder contents, copy, and drag into that new folder or merely to drag the old iPhoto Library folder inside the new one. I chose the latter. Once that happened, iPhoto restarted nicely but spent hours repairing the photo library. It seems to have corrected several image date problems I'd always noted, but now I'm left with the dilemma of deciding which photo library to use. I no longer have the albums within the iPhoto displays when I open iPhoto; and all images show they were made and imported today. In the previous process, another photo library emerged with a "-1" appended to it. Its contents seem to be correct, but when I specify for iPhoto to use that new photo library_1, the iPhoto contents appear to be empty. At this moment, I'm reloading the newest iPhoto Library-new using the select-all, copy, and drag the contents into it to see whether my albums will appear this time. Before I restart or do anything else which might jeopardize success, any suggestions?

  • Itunes will not open even after I reinstalled Quick time!!!  Help!

Okay, I have read lots of information on this site and did everything as instructed, but I am still having problems. I installed the new version of Itunes, then got a "audio configuration problem" message. So, I removed Quicktime and then re-installed Quicktime. I am still getting the same "audio configuration" message! I even tried repairing Itunes in the Add/Remove Programs folder....but it says that Itunes must have Quicktime in order to run. Well, I just reinstalled Quicktime but somehow it is not recognizing it!
What should I do now? Help!?!?! I want to use my new Ipod.

    Help please.

I'm re-installing from a cd.  I have upgraded since Aperture 1.0!!  When I use the install from Aperture 3.0, it won't open my library (because it has been updated to a newer version of Aperture).  So, I tried to open Aperture with the sample library on the disc.  No go.  States I don't have permissions.
I updated the re-installed version of Aperture 3.0 to the current 3.2.3.  I still CANNOT open Aperture.  I seem to be getting the same error message.
I have fixed permissions and all.  My Mac is up to date.  I don't know what else to do.
I have a MacBook Air and Aperture works great on it.  Problem is my huge library is difficult to transfer or duplicate since it is so large.  I think I will just take out my hard drive from my Mac Pro and put it in a desktop enclosure.
I can't even open Aperture from my Vault.
