Firefox is running in the background and I can't turn it off.

When I go to a site I can hear talking and music in the background. This happens when I'm not even using firefox. I tried to remove a tool bar I have and it said I had to close firefox. I can hear it when I check e-mail. Help!!!

I have tried your suggestions and FX still won't open. Things I have tried are ending FX processes, restarting, removing "parent lock" from the FX profile - still no luck. Any further ideas? Thanks.

  • Firefox is running in the back ground, how can I turn it off to reinstall it?

I tried to get into the save mode but Firefox still will not come up. I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled and still I can not get Firefox to come up on the screen. But when I shut down my computer it says it is running. It must e running the back ground. Please help me get Firefox working again. I think this is a Mozilla Problem because I did not install addons, etc.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox keeps running in the background, and cannot clear Cache after turning off Firefox

After shutting down Firefox, it keeps running in the background. This creates a Problem when trying to clear the Cache, etc.
    Why does it keep running?

Look into CCleaner and Advanced System Care and file a support question because if Firefox is not in task manager it is NOT RUNNING! By the way you mentioned you don't like that Firefox 7.0 because it doesn't have a tool bar with Mail and Facebook try this:
    *Make mail etc. bookmarks
    *Open the list of bookmarks
    *Right click one
    *Click "Properties"
*Enter mail or facebook etc. in "Keywords"
*Next time you want to open it just type mail or facebook etc. into the address bar
*Hit enter or click the green arrow however you normally load a webpage when you type it in
*This will open the web page without having to enter the URL

  • Error when I try to open Firefox. Says Firefox is running in the background and cannot open. Suggests closing that window or restart system. This has happened several times recently. I reinstalled but am still getting the error. Any thoughts?

I am getting an Error when I try to open Firefox that Says Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. This has happened several times recently. I deinstalld and reinstalled but am still getting the error. Any thoughts?

This happens to me as well. However, I have a shortcut on my desktop as well as my quick start bar. When this has happened to me, I can usually log back in without restarting, by using the shortcut on the desktop rather than the usual quick start bar.
I know this sounds weird, but it has worked for me about 80% of the time.

  • Firefox is running in the background but I can't open it. I need to explain more.

I think I enabled an add on after which FX wouldn't open. In any event FX will not open now. My PC is running Window 7. I went into task manager and closed any FX processes that were running. Still wouldn't open. Then I tried uninstalling FX and reinstalling. I got a message that said I couldn't do that because FX was running. Then I tried reinstalling FX and again I got the message that I couldn't do that because it was running. Then I went in and deleted all the FX program files and reinstalled. Once again it wouldn't start. Any suggestions?

  • I keep having to restart my computer. It say firefox is running in the background but I cannot load another page

I keep getting the message that Firefox is running in the background and I cannot load another page. I have to restart my computer to get Firefox back to operating normally. I have everything closed down as far as I can tell. But when I click on the Icon it will not start another page. It just keeps telling me to shut down all browser windows and that Firefox is running in the background. I even go to ctrl/alt/delete and look at the tasks running. Nothing! It is happening a lot more often now and I hate to use Internet Explorer. I have depended a lot more on Mozilla in the past few years now and I like it. This is driving me nuts. Please help. Thank You

  • When I exit Firefox, it continues running in the background. How can I prevent this and keep it from happening apparently by default?

I know that Firefox continues running in the background because after I exit the program, I use CCleaner and it indicates programs are still running: Firefox. This happens every time I exit Firefox. There seems to be a default mechanism to keep it running. How can I prevent this?

  • My firefox is running in the background, unvisible. It will not allow me to uninstall/ reinstall because it says it is running. I cannot create a new profile because it says that firefox is running? How do I fix this??

I have tried restarting my computer, tried uninstalling, tried reinstalling but it always tells me that Firefox is open and running. When I select the task manager, there is no "firefox" under process. I have tried checking to make sure that the "read only" box is not checked under the profile properties. it seems like my only option now is to create a new profile. However, the profile manager won't even come up because it says firefox is running in the background. So frustrating!

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
You can force Firefox to create a new default profile if you remove the profiles.ini file.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/profiles.ini_file
You can find that file here:
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\

  • Firefox constantly runs in the background even when closed

    Hi
I have Firefox 3.6.8 running on Windows Vista.
I have found that Firefox constantly runs in the background even when i have just booted up the computer or when i have closed it.
Firefox seems to constantly run with 5000-20000 K bytes in the memory.
When i have Firefox running to look at webpages, there are two processes running. When i close Firefox there is one process running. If i end the process using the task manager, it only takes seconds before it starts to run again.
I know this isnt normal because i keep a good eye on the processes running on my computer. So unless the latest version of Firefox requires this process running all the time, it looks like i have a probably.
Ive scanned my computer with zonealarm, avast, superantispyware and spybot to scan my computer for viruses. One of the pieces of software found a virus and it deleted it successfully.
Im not too sure if this is a virus that is hiding in my system or whether its part of the latest version of Firefox.
Firefox isnt showing the usual signs of a virus. As in it doesnt try to redirect me to random websites and it doesnt try to get me to download something.
I hope someone can help me please.
    Rob

After talking to someone very helpful on the live chat support.
It appears like i have a virus that is very good at hiding from detection from anti-virus/spyware software.
No idea what intentions the virus has as its not showing any sort of virus like behaviour.
I called the old installation a different name and closed the Firefox process. A few seconds later, instead of a Firefox process starting again a different executable started.

Has nothing to do with the SIM or master reset.  This has been done to my phone.  The SIM once and the factory reset many times over.  You all just sold us a bad piece of equipment and have us by the tail with our contracts so none of us can get a new phone without paying full price or re-upping our contract.  I just got off the phone last night with your high up tech people (you know, the hidden number we get once we tear into your support people enough), they went into my phone again and still didn't find anything wrong.  I about got fired from my job for not getting my calls and texts.  The BBB has now been contacted, and I feel your end should shore this up for all of us!

  • TS3694 I am trying to restore my ipod and it stopped moving before the restoration was completed. How do I re-set the ipod. I can't turn it off.

How do I turn off I pod touch?   The restore screen is stuck

Thanks for the assistance.  I was able to restore my I pod after letting the battery run down.  I then synced the I pod to my new computer.  Most of the songs moved from the cloud to the actual I pod drive.  But, many of them did not.  I tried downloading them from the cloud on my I pod, but this didn’t work.  Will I be able to restore the missing songs?  Thanks, Cleveland.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
