Firefox is set to NOT change to a newly opened tab yet it is doing so anyway

Firefox is set in Options to NOT change to the newly opened tab. However, when I open a new tab or open a new window which opens as a tab instead it is automatically switching me to that newly opened tab.
I am using the latest version of Firefox after having had to install a new motherboard on my system and reinstalling all my programs

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I set the Home Page for a newly open tab using the File Tab Menu??

When I open a new tab, is there a way to set the home page the new tab will use when it is opened, or will new tabs always be opened as blank pages?

I have new windows opening when I click on a link. Or when I click on the FF-Icon. New windows are the default setting.
When a new window opens, I get a Google home page and can instantly type in a search phrase.
With the above in mind, sometimes I want to keep search classes in the same window. In a sense I'm using the Window with no tabs, to generate a tab by using the File Tab option.
When a Tab is selected where new windows will launch a new page, and not a new tab, the process of forcing a new tab onto the window will produce a tab page that is Blank, and the new tab label description displayed in the tab area shows the words "New Tab". That tab's URL address bar is blank. Zip - nothing displayed.
When a blank page tab appears, I click on the HOME button you helped me remodel, and the "New Tab" description in the tab label area changes from "New Tab" to "Google".
My question was to ask, if there was a way I could do something to make FF4 do that Home page assignment on its own. In the early FF days I found you could sometimes go into the bowels of FF, find some form of INI or SETTINGS type file, look for a Keyword reference that would tell FF to do something different, and Viola, emotional issue resolved. In this case, I'm trying to "Gild the Lilly" by asking if you, or someone else might have a rabbit they can pull out of their hat, just like you did when you helped me move my Home button, and have that rabbit show me how to do something that default FF-Options section doesn't support.
Did I do a better job of explaining the issue this time?
    Thanks again for the response.

By default Firefox opens a blank page for a new Tab, there is no setting to change that action without installing an add-on.

  • The latest version of Firefox no longer asks if you want to save open tabes for your next session..I HATE not having that option. What were they thinking?

    Question
The latest version of Firefox no longer asks if you want to save open tabs for your next session..I HATE not having that option. What were they thinking? (I think this is self explanatory)

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />

    Another possibility is to use:

  • Place of newly opened tabs is not logical (not put to the end of row)

When I have more tabs opened (for example 5) and I click a link with the middle mouse-button NOT on the last tab (for example on the 2nd one) Firefox does not put the newly opened tab to the end of the row, it is inserted right after the clicked page (newly opened tab is inserted between 2 existing tabs). Previous Firefox versions did always put the newly opened tabs to the end. How could it be set in case of 3.6.10?

A couple of options. You can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/61766/ New Tabs at the End] add-on. A second option is to change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # In the filter box type '''Related'''
    # Double-click on the preference '''browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent''' to change its value to '''false'''

  • Firefox keeps switching to newly opened tabs, although the option to do so is turned off. How can I stop this?

When I open a link in a new tab the browser's focus switches to the tab right beside the one in current use more often than it does the one just opened.
I would much prefer it to not switch to tabs automatically unless it is a blank tab being opened. The option "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" unchecked, yet it still switches to the tab right beside [adjacent] the current one, even if the newly opened tab is ten tabs away. It will stop for a while if I turn it on, save, then turn it back off, but returns after Firefox has been closed and reopened.

  • Firefox automatically switches to newly opened tabs, have tried reinstallation already.

Ever since I updated my firefox a month or two ago I now switch to any new tabs opened within my browser....And yes, I know there is an option that says "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately." This is obviously unchecked. On my laptop there is no issue with this, when I open a number of things into tabs they all file in right behind one another and I can switch over to them when I wish to. Now on my desktop PC, if I go to open a few successive tabs I will automatically switch to each newly opened tab and have to go to my original window to continue what I was doing.

I only use the default theme on Firefox. I would say it does it the worst on websites such as Facebook, if I open multiple tabs on different people or groups or events etc. it will start tabbing me over one...if that makes any sense. So I open up 3 tabs and then I go to open up another tab and it will then shift my screen one tab over

  • How do I change the order of open tabs?

I currently have approximately a dozen tabs open, of which most are required to be viewed in a particular order. Is there a way to change the order of these tabs? If there is not, holding onto one of the tabs without sliding it sideways could become a method of "unlocking" the selected tab, allowing it to be moved up or down the list (I sure think it sounds like a good, and mostly easy, possible future addition to the app).
    Thanks for your time,
    Adam

Adam, unfortunately at this time this is not a feature of Firefox for Android. To move the tabs you would have to close it out and open them in the order you wanted them to appear.
If this is a desired feature however, I would recommend leaving feedback about this in input.mozilla.org.

  • Firefox is slowing down. More I am using Firefox then more I have to wait for reaction(open tab, klick on button etc.)

For more that one year everything was ok with Firefox. Even after upgrades of my PC everything was just fine. About 2 months ago when I opened Firefox I noticed that he is slowing down(not PC only browser). More time I spend on Firefox longer takes everything-from tab opening, button klicks, closing tabs etc. It looks like it freeze for period of second or longer and come back to normal for few seconds. I was trying to ckeck that on many any only one opened tab. But result was same. I deinstalled Firefox, deleted related folders and installed him one more time with updates and with updated Adobe Flash but without changes. Still crap. Please HELP!!!

The proper way to close Firefox is through the File menu "Exit" or the equivalent with the Firefox button.
More detail in item '''#38 Firefox already running '''
    of
[http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6) (#fx4interface)]
Firefox already running, to properly shutdown Firefox when closing the last window use File → Exit/Quit (or Firefox button → Exit). Closing Firefox with the [X] in the upper right corner closes the window ("Ctrl+W") but that does not necessarily close Firefox if it has subtasks running. If you want to close and reopen Firefox use the "Restart" within Add-ons if you made a change requiring a restart, or install "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/restartless-restart/ Restartless Restart]" ("Ctrl+Alt+R") which will allow you to take Firefox down and restart without having to check the Windows Task Manager to see if Firefox first actually ended. • Did you change how Cmd-T opens tab when no windows displayed?

One of my favorite Firefox commands was Cmd-T which, when no windows were displayed, brought up a new window with focus in the address bar so I could immediately type a new address or search. This eliminated CMd-N waiting for my home page to load, repositioning focus to address bar & erasing contents of address bar before typing a new address. Although not specifically documented, it was probably the Firefox cmd I most used. As of most recent update this has changed. It now opens a new tab in some hidden window but doesn't display it. This seems worthless. Please consider restoring this feature to the way it was. Thanks!

I do Graphics/Production work for an archaeological firm. Before I started working here, they decided that of the different export options from our GIS department, EPS was the format that gave us the least problems and the highest quality. This was decided when we were using Illustrator 10. Now we're making the shift from CS2 and 3 to CS5 (getting our department on the same version), we are running into this problem with the EPS files and I am trying to find a solution to make all of our lives easier. One of the other options that we are kicking around is ditching the EPS file format all together and shifting to using a high quality PDF instead. Could this cause any loss of quality?

  • Dynamically Set date not changing in schedule Job

    Hi,
I have created a report with "Order Date" as one of the parameters on the selection screen. I have created a variant, say 'X' , to set this date parameter dynamiccaly as "Current date - 31 days".
I have scheduled this program to run in background with the 'X' variant daily at certain time.
Now, for the day on which I created this job , the Order Date is set to correct date . For ex if I am scheduling the job tdy it will be set to 06/10/08. However, for next day , that is tom this date is not getting changed. i.e Tommorrow again Order date is 06/10/08 but it should have been 07/10/08.
So basically this dynamically set date is not chaning in the scheduled job.
Any idea why this is happening and what is the corrective measure for this.
    Thanks!

There is an INITIALIZATION event in the program.......
Do the processing your date in that event only....
    for ex....
    select-options: date for order-date.
    INITIALIZATION.
    date-low = sy-datum or wat ever.
    Thanks

  • Forced upgrade of Firefox, despite setting options not to. (see /questions/967802 )

Can you please suggest me how to get the exact version of FF and also with update disabled as its customer requirement.

    Hi Murugan007,
Hope all is well, I read the previous forum question and I understand that you are controlling updates going out to Firefox through AppGaurd and you would like to know how to extract the version of Firefox.
To do this you can right click the Firefox Application and click "About Firefox" or if you have it open already you can click "About Firefox" from the start menu. You can find the exact steps from the article that is specific to your Operating system. [[Find what version of Firefox you are using]]
At this time if you go to '''about:config''' in the browser you can set the values for updates in the values in this link[[http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries#Update._and_Update_notifications.|Update notifications in About:config]]
I am not sure exactly how you would like to control the updates, but just for security purposes I cannot reccomend holding off on updates for too long. You can set up notifications in the '''about:config''' page as well.
If there are any other contributors that have any other things to add or clarify please do not hesitate. If there are any other questions we are happy to help.

  • Firefox 3.6.13 not changing themes, taking a forced color scheme.

I've got two issues that I have a hunch are tied together -
    #1:
Firefox 3.6.13 won't accept a new theme - any theme. I've done a full uninstall/reinstall, launch in admin mode, uninstall the themes, uninstall the themes from safe mode, and done a complete nuke (deleting profile directories, all info under appdata/programdata, etc) and reload, and see the same problem. It's always on the default theme.
    #2:
Color overrides aren't working. I use a modified high-contrast theme in Windows 7 (not using Aero Glass) with black window backgrounds. Even though I've turned on "Allow pages to choose their own colors" and turned off "Use system colors" (and tried every combination thereof), and tried specifying background colors within FF, I get no results. It still uses the system background and font colors.

    cor-el -
Thanks for the suggestion. It's certainly saving most other preferences, just not activating themes or using assigned colors.
I closed FF, deleted prefs.js, and tried again but got the same results. I know it deleted the prefs as when I reopened firefox it took me to the default start page, which is not what was configured previously. I have no user.js file to test. I'm also not running any of the mentioned AV software.
Ultimately the problem remains. Look forward to any more suggestions -
    Thanks.

  • I can pin three or four websites that load when I open Firefox, but I do not want a homepage to open full. Can I just have pinned sites open? At this point it looks like I must have homepage. Can a homepage be pinned?

I have three or four sites that I want pinned when my browser opens. And would like only those to open pinned and not have another tab (homepage) open.
Or if something has to open I'd like to choose one of my pinned sites to be focused on but still pinned.[http://www.dougsstuff.com/tabs.PNG link text]

Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.
I understand your frustration and surprise at the removal of these features but I can't undo these changes. I'm just a support volunteer and I do not work for Mozilla. But you can send any feedback about these changes to http://input.mozilla.org/feedback. Firefox developers collect data submitted through there then present it at the weekly Firefox meeting
I recommend you try to adjust to 29 and see if you can't make it work for you before you downgrade to a less secure and soon outdated version of Firefox.
Here are a few suggestions for restoring the old design. I hope you’ll find one that works for you:
*Use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer] to bring back the old design. Learn more here: [[How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox]]
*Use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/the-addon-bar/ Add-on Bar Restored] to bring back the add-on bar. Learn more here: [[What happened to the Add-on Bar?]]
