Firefox is suddenly crashing unexpectedly on my Mac, and I can't find a reason.
I have run Firefox (Version 3.6.12) on my Mac for several years, without a problem. About 2 weeks ago, , it started crashing unexpectedly. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the crashes, except that they seem to happen when I open a new page. It doesn't seem to matter what page I'm going too, CNN, Yahoo, Facebook.
I get a long failure notice. I though about posting it and can send a copy to anyone
Hi Carolyn: Thanks for the suggestion regarding the screen swipe. I did this before logging this question.
HI King: You were spot on.
To the Apple community: Thank you for the quick responses. I empathize with Apple's challenge -- the technical support logistics are exponentially more difficult in supporting consumer products -- especially non-commoditized products -- than in supporting an enterprise products. So thank you to the Apple community for reaching out to help the company as an adjunct. It certainly is unique.
This does not alleviate Apple's responsibility to release note this issue, to insert a message on the screen telling the user to reboot or to create a fix in a future software release that allows the icon to show up without rebooting. Thanks

Two MaxDB crashes in the last 5 days, how can I find the reason ?
Hello,
My MaxDB-Server crashed two times in the last 5 days and I have no idea why. Can you help me to find the reason for the crashes ? My MaxDB 7.6.05 is running on a Linux server and I never had such problems before.

There really are no no more details. The only version of Firefox that I can find that is available for downloading is not compatible with MAX OS X 10.4.11
This means I am really in trouble. I sent the version I was using to the trash because I was having so many troubles with it not connecting to various sites.
Where can I find a Firefox version that I can download? You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

I'm using FireFox 3.6.20.
Did that certificate get installed or did you download and saved the certificate?
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced : Encryption: Certificates - View Certificates
*Firefox > Preferences > General : Downloads
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > "Remember download history" -
When I "revel in finder" a photo in my iPhoto app on my old mac, it shows the path: hard drive, user, meghanica, library, iphoto library and so on. BUT when I go to my hard drive and try to follow that path on my laptop, there is no "library" folder to open in meghanica. I have tried to spolight the library folder with no luck. All of my photos that I've looked at in iPhoto show this path. I can't figure out why when I go to my hard drive, it's not there. Any ideas? I'm using updated iPhoto '11 on os x Lion on a macbook pro. Thanks!
It sounds like the library might have been placed in your Home/Library folder which is invisible.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
When you find the iPhoto library move it to your Pictures folder.

I installed the new (5.0.1) Firefox version to my laptop with Windows Vista and I can't find any trace of the Orange Firefox Button in the left upper corner. I need this button for normal exploitation of Firefox. And, formerly, I added plenty of websites to former version of Firefox (to orange button of this former version). Tell me please: 1. How may I have this orange button in my Firefox? 2. How to get back those websites written in former Orange Firefox Button?

This problem has been done before. Break this down into something simpler. You don't need an applet. Just do it on the command line. You don't need a database. Just create a flat file if you need some persistent data. Do the simple thing first, then build out from there.
Click on the special tokens link up above and learn how to use [ code][ code] tags.
Your code is a big, unreadable mess. You've got pare this down into something sensible. If you can't understand it, it's unreasonable to expect someone on this forum to wade through all of that. - MOD -
Firefox continues to crash unexpectedly. When it does a message requests me to send a report that is supposed to help Firefox understand the problem but I never hear from them again. Just how is someone who isn't a computer geek able to understand all the detailed discussions from other users. My Firefox is completely up to date. Is there anyone who can explain what is happening in simple terms?

It's Shaunn, the original poster. Thanks for your posting. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's having this problem.
Now that you mention it, I'm having the exact same problem on Facebook as well, when I play Family Feud.
I wish someone would investigate and post a solution to this problem. No-one from Playlist has responded, and no-one "Officially" from Firefox either.
So Mariah, I appreciate you and your post.
If you find anything out...from anywhere...would you please let me know. You can post it right here and I'll get an email from Firefox.
I'll do the same for you.
Enjoy your day and good luck.

FIREFOX HAS AGAIN CRASHED.WHEN I WENT TO MOZILLA HELP IT SAID THAT THE REASON FOR THE CRASH WAS "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_WRITE".WHAT IS THIS SUPPOSED TO MEAN?I SAW THAT THIS WAS THE REASON FOR EVERY CRASH IN FIREFOX.HOW DO WE MEND IT?
PLEASE HELP.Thank you but there are more important issues going on about my Medical records that are being falsified that I am trying to report and hopefully get help with. I know this isn't the best forum to do this but it is the most secure forum available to me to hopefully get some help with my continuous problem.
Were you able to see the problem of medical record fraud that I have posted in this tread? Thank you for your help. -
My MacBook Pro won't load any websites on Safari (except this site, Facebook and Google). Opera and Mozilla Firefox won't load any sites whatsoever. I already did the "Reset Safari" several times, restarted the computer half a dozen times, and I can't find this alleged "caches.db" file to delete. I virus scanned the computer with Sophos, Avast, and iAntiVirus and it looks clean.
Is iAntiVirus the best virus protection to use for a MacBook?
The best anti-virus protection is your own common sense, and what you already bought and paid for with your Mac. Third party products such as "iAntiVirus" convey no additional benefit, and as you already determined are very capable of causing trouble.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind. -
Suddenly all of my Office-programs have stopped working and will not launch on my MacBook. They were all already installed when I bought the computer. Could anyone give an amateur from Norway a hint of what may cause the problem? (And I can not find the installation-disc for the Office Programs...Super!)
Have you contacted Microsoft support - http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support ?

How can I open more than one tab in Firefox Home on an iphone 4 with ios 4.3.1? I can access the tabs page but all the entries are blank and I can't find a way to open a new page in a new tab.
That doesn't fix the problem which seems to be more of a bug, but that's a great solution. In fact I think I like that more than right clicking. Thanks.
