Firefox is "unable to connect" to any site, while other broswers can

I've tried clearing my cookies and history, disabling addons/extensions and the firewall, changing/disabling proxy settings, and read several of the articles, but nothing seems to work. I was out of town for 2 days and everything was working fine when I left. Got back today and just kept getting "unable to connect" message for any website I tried to open. I tried to download chrome and opera, but the download had an error and just didn't work (chrome) and just stayed at 0% with nothing happening (opera). i'm able to get emails and get on websites via internet explorer.

Hello vtand06, did you also try a Clean reinstall ? This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
Please report back to say if this helped you!

You need to ask Apple for assistance with getting back into your old ID. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to resolve this issue through the Account Security team, fill out and submit this form.

• An automated update has rendered my laptop Firefox browser unable to connect to any websites, how do I fix this issue?

When the update for my browser took place, on 5/5/14 @ approximately 12:15 am, it rendered the browser unable to connect to any websites. It does work in safe mode, but not in regular mode. I am on an hp pavilion dv7, running windows 7. I need to resolve this issue ASAP. Or I will have to switch browsers, which I don't want to do, as I have used Firefox for many years. Can I get some assistance to rectify the problem?

Can you start by giving us the troubleshooting information from the Firefox installation that's having problems. This is an essential step in troubleshooting.
*Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information from the sub-menu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select Troubleshooting Information from the menu.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

• When I open firefox, the web address ishows my chosen home page but the window shows "untitled" and I am unable to connect to any site to the internet.

I chose the New York Times site to be my home page and when I open Firefox this address appears in the web address panel. But in the tab box it says "untitled" and I don't connect to any web page. I have tried reloading firefox, nothing seems to work. How can I stop this?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

• Firefox will not connect to any website but other browsers can

I installed firefox on my new advent laptop running windows 7 but it will not connect to any websites. I can connect using chrome or ie no problem but i always preferred firefox as a browser, i have tried changing settings and turning off my firewall but still having no luck

Okay, here is my answer to this problem. At least it fixed my problem and firefox now works fine.
Prior to this problem I was running zonealarm (free firewall) everything worked fine until I removed zonealarm free and installed Comodo free firewall. That is when the trouble started. firefox failed and IE kept working. I tried everything posted here nothing worked for me.
I resorted to "REGEDIT" and removed everything in my registry that regedit would allow that had the name of "zonealarm" on it. Didn't even have to reboot my system, firefox worked first thing. Everything else is fine also.
[note: this is not a slam against Lavasoft's ZoneAlarm firewall. It is just that UNINSTALL programs do not always do a thorough job of removing parts of programs in your systems and registry cleaner programs do not pick them up either.]
USE CARE, "REGEDIT" IS A POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS TOOL TO USE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT A SOMEWHAT ADVANCED USER. USE CARE WITH "REGEDIT!"
Good luck.

• My ipad2 was working fine last night, but this morning is unable to connect to ANY wifi networks (though it can detect them). All typical solutions fail. What can i do?

My ipad2 was working fine last night, but this morning when I woke it up... it no longer was connected to my network. While it can detect networks, it cannot connect to any (have tried at home and at work). I have tried: resetting router, resetting ipad, forgetting network, renewing lease on network, ensuring airplane mode is off, resetting network settings, turning wifi on/off. None of the typical solutions I can find online seem to work. HELP!

You've gone through all of the basics. You might look at this document regarding potential issues with wi-fi environments.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
If none of that works, and if a device restore doesn't work, it's time for a trip to the Genius Bar.

• My firefox browser will not connect (to any site)/ problem loading page

It used to work just fine and suddenly crashed. I tried creating a new profile, but it would not load the profile manager either. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it to no avail.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe mode:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Firefox is unable to connect to the internet but Internet Explorer can.

My Firefox is not loading any websites. When I open Firefox, the home screen comes up (google), but if i try to navigate to any other website it says that it cannot connect. I then tried inernet explorer and it works perfectly. I tried all the options on the Firefox Help page (checking the firewall, proxy..) but it still doesnt work.

From another computer, go to http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/, click "Free download" button, click "Save File" button, select your flash drive in "Save as" window. "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" file will be saved in your flash drive.
You just need to insert it in your new computer and double-click on "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" from Windows Explorer and follow instructions.

• Unable to connect to any secure sites with any browser

I am unable to connect to any secure sites. I downloaded Firefox with the hopes that it would fix the problem but it did not. What ever browser I use I cant connect to any secure sites. All of the other pages load correctly.
I have a PC notebook that I tried to load the same sites it worked fine, so I know that it is not a connecting problem.
emac Mac OS X (10.4.6)
ibook Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Are you connecting via dial up or high speed through a router? If that latter, check the firewall settings of the router. I have my router set to medium (high, medium, low, & none) and it works most of the time. But occationally I get to sites that won't load and setting the router (temporarily) to low usually allows me to access those sites. So perhaps this is your issue.
I think there are ways to add those sites to router security lists or "services" that will now let them through with the higher security settings, but I need it so rarely I haven't bothered to figure it out yet.

• Unable To Connect To Some Sites

I am unable to connect to some sites, with the error message "Safari can’t connect to the server." I cannot connect to the site with Firefox either.
Example sites are: www.bostonpizza.com and www.airmiles.ca
However, I am able to connect to these sites when I boot into WinXP.
I have tried pinging the sites in question, getting the following error message: "ping: sendto: No route to host"
It looks like something is bonked with my OS X settings. I have tried the following without any luck:
1. Reseting the computer
2. Clearing Safari's cache
3. Reseting PRAM settings using OptCmd+pr key commands on startup
4. Using OpenDNS in the network DNS settings
I am connected directly to a Linksys ADSL Ethernet modem, and my firewall is set to allow all incoming connections. I'm not running PeerGuardian, and as far as I know I'm not running anything in the background that would bork my network.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Orest
I have tried doing a traceroute when running in WinXP, with the following information:
racing route to www.bostonpizza.com [64.40.107.95]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 8 ms 8 ms 8 ms d75-152-160-1.abhsia.telus.net [75.152.160.1]
2 7 ms 7 ms 7 ms 154.11.184.193

7 21 ms 21 ms 21 ms www.bostonpizza.com [64.40.107.95]
Trace complete.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately I still haven't resolved the issue. I would say 99% of the sites I visit work fine, but for some reason the odd site won't work.
This is the results for the ping on my Mac OS X system:
PING www.bostonpizza.com (64.40.107.95): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: No route to host
I can access the site running WinXP in Parallels, and I can access the site in question when I use bootcamp to boot into WinXP, using the same network hardware and same connections.
It looks like from the ping, DNS is working and able to translate the site name, but for some reason cannot access the site.
This is the results of a traceroute that I ran while booted in WinXP:
Tracing route to www.bostonpizza.com [64.40.107.95]

7 21 ms 21 ms 21 ms www.bostonpizza.com [64.40.107.95]
Trace complete.
When booted in Mac OS X, I am able to ping every listed IP address in the WinXP traceroute, except for the last one, 64.40.107.95.
Still no idea what is going on, my network troubleshooting toolbox consists of pretty much ping, and googling error messages.
Thanks,
