Firefox issue

I"ve been using firefox for a while now as my default browser and have been quite pleased but have one question. Each time I open an attachment (for example some type of pdf file) a copy of the file remains on my desktop- so I often have many, many files cluttering up my desktop. I don't recall this happening on safari. Could someone please tell me how to avoid this problem. Usually I just want to read these files and don't want to keep copies of them.
Thanks
Powerbook G4 Titatnium   Mac OS X (10.4)

You're welcome.
Same thing applies.
If there is a PDF file or a file in Word format selected at a website, it must be downloaded to your hard drive in order to be viewed by the chosen application installed on your hard drive to open said file. This is why these files are on your Desktop which is the default location for saving downloaded files with Firefox.
Since these are downloaded files, you must delete the files from the Desktop that you don't want or need to save.
There is no other way to view downloaded files and there is not a setting to automatically delete downloaded files after being opened.

    i have also tried to uninstall firefox to no avail
    when i try to download 3.6.15 it works to 100% then is searching for viruses and there it stops.
    i can get on the internet with firefox... but can't get to my email using thunderbird... but i was told the problem is a firefox issue.
    yikes. i'm in over my head.

    I had already tried a reinstall before, but thanks for the suggestion. Starting FF in Safe mode did not help either.
    XULRunner is specific to FF. Mostly found discussion about using the code in web pages when I used Google before posting.
    When FF went from version 3.6.14 to version 3.6.15 this issue started. Please note the Error message and the version info I just mentioned.
    '''"Platform version '1.9.2.15' is not compatible with minVersion > =1.9.2.14 maxVersion < = 1.9.2.14"'''
    '''The Platform was revved up from 1.9.2.14 to1.9.2.15'''
    I could not find information on: minVersion or maxVersion much less how to change them in XULRunner.
    '''''It is definitely a Mozilla FF issue'''''.
    Avast sandbox is up to date and works just fine with everything else. More importantly it worked just before the update was installed.
    The only reason I bothered with the update is because Mozilla touted it as a security issue and there was NO mention of any known issues with sandbox software.

  • I can no longer receive my email through firefox. Also my facebook account doesn't show some of the profile pictures show a different person on someone's name. It appears this is a firefox issues as when I go to explorer it is not a problem at all.

    It seems that through firefox I cannot receive my emails through charter.net and have always been able to before. Also, on my facebook page, profile pictures aren't showing up on some people and on some people a totally different person is showing up. It seems to be a firefox issue because when I get on internet explorer everything is fine? How can I get this problem taken care of? Can my 8.0 be updated.

  • I have added a display to my iMac and have it as an "extended desktop" - my Fidelity acct. stock charts won't go over to the other monitor however. Is it a Firefox issue?

    I want to use a 2nd monitor to have my stock charts off by themselves - that way they're easier to read. My Fidelity ActiveTrader Pro web site lets me create many charts, but when I try to drag one of them over to the other monitor, I just see my pointer, no chart. The web site just creates a scroll bar and I have to put the chart next to the current one. Is this a Firefox issue and, if so, what do I need to do? Something in Preferences? I didn't see anything. Thanks

    We've already done all of that. And we used the same thunderbolt cable to connect two iMac's and that worked totally fine doing the Command+ F2. I don't understand why we can't get the macbook to do the same.

  • Linux Mint freezee because of firefox issues with big images

    I had few system freezes recently. I am not sure what is the cause of it, but the last one happened when I tried to open image on this website:
    http://www.wykop.pl/wpis/10937070/pojechalem-dzis-zobaczyc-co-to-za-dzielnica-dublin/
    My whole system stop responding - both screens frozen, but I could still here sounds from kodi. Could not switch to second terminal.
    I use the website on windows 7 firefox without issues. However I've got couple of freezes during upload or clicking on the images. Not sure what could cause the system to freeze, but firefox would be the process which took up to 100% of one core previously.
    UPDATE:
    Actually System freeze happened on google street view as well, so it is not website related.

    Received messages in hotmail come in with "message too wide" to fit the screen. Hotmail is absolutely useless in terms of fixing this, and says it is a Firefox issue. • Firefox issues with multiple users on a single computer.

    I have an issue with Firefox and multiple users on my computer. There are two users setup and I'm running Win7 Ultimate x64. When the other user logs in, my settings in Firefox get screwed up somehow. Even if that user does not open Firefox.
    Examples of problems this causes:
    Gmail - Cannot load the standard interface, however it will load the HTML only interface.
    Facebook - Cannot post anything.
    vBulletin Forums - Some forums will no longer normally load - a text-only version loads as if I was browsing from a mobile device.
    There may be other issues, but these are the main ones. If I clear my cookies, cache and browsing and download history, then restart Firefox, everything works again.
    This seems to happen most often when the other user logs in, and uses Firefox to log on to their Gmail account.
    How can I fix this?

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
    See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

If you have Win7 Ultimate or Enterprise you can go into the Local Securities Policy Editor and prevent the UAC dialog box opening for an administrator.
    However, if like me you have Home Premium or Home editions there is NO editor in the OS and this setting has to be modified through the registry.

  • Drop down menus on certain websites (ie ESPN) are no longer working on Firefox but work with both Chrome and IE on same computer so I believe its Firefox issue.

    I tried updating Firefox to 19 and then even the Beta 20 version. I have rebooted computer countless times. On the same computer, I can open IE and bring up ESPN and the drop down menus work fine so I know its not a computer issue and it must have something to do Firefox. I tried the "starting in safe mode" and disabling add ons because I saw those suggestions but that didnt work. I also tried unchecking the box about hardware acceleration because I saw that suggested also and needless to say that didnt work either. Can someone please please help me, its very frustrating.

    The menu on the ESPN site is generated via JavaScript, so make sure that you aren't blocking JavaScript if the menus aren't working.

  • Windows 8.1 and Firefox issues

    Bought a new laptop, Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5215. AMD A6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 2.00 GHz. 4 GB RAM, 63 bit operating system, x62 based processor. 1 TB memory. Came with Windows 8.1 on it. This has been very frustrating.
    I THINK Firefox 33.1.1 downloaded. I say "think" because in trying to fix issues, somewhere I saw Firefox - PART, but now I do not know where I saw this.
    I just ran a search on "THIS PC" for Firefox and have 2 screens of listings.
    One issue: I use yahoo for email. When I click to open a message, I can not scroll down. I have to click IN the message, and then arrow down. The scroll bar on the far right takes up the entire range, so it cannot be moved down.
    Second issue: In working on things, I tried moving Firefox to Safe Mode. Now, my first problem is that the instructions to do this say to use the Menu button and the ? button; in fact, all I had to do was click on Help in the menu across the top of the page, and then click on disable add ons. So that took me some time, just to get in to Safe Mode.
    Once in Safe Mode, the menu across the top disappeared, so I could not get back IN to help to exit Safe Mode!
    In Safe Mode, the touchpad was disabled; I had to go get a mouse and connect that to move around.
    Yes, once I did THAT, and went in to yahoo mail, I could open a message and have a scroll bar on the right to move down the message.
    I had to reboot to exit Safe Mode.
    Then I had to go enable the touch pad.
    Now I have no scroll bar when I open an email message in yahoo mail.
    Next issue. Firefox is S L O W. I've used it for years on 4 or 5 other computers, never seen it this slow. It is so slow that I keep getting 'NOT RESPONDING' across the top of the page. I do not do anything and eventually the page DOES load. This happens with any site: Facebook, this Support site, craigslist, yahoo mail, any place I go to. I have not found that it is site specific.
    Next issue. Periodically the cursor locks up. Nothing I do releases it. Once in a while I wait and it becomes responsive again; other times, I have to reboot.
    Next issue: sometimes I have to click once, sometimes I have to double click ON THE SAME BUTTON. This happens when I am in a forum and want to post a reply, as one example. Sometimes one click on the REPLY button do it. Other times, I have to double click. It is not constant ON THE SAME FORUM.
    That's what I've got, for now. Any help much appreciated.

  • Using Javascript form validation in WordPress - Firefox issues

    I have been struggling for a while to get javascript to validate a WordPress based HTML form which uses radio buttons. I finally came up with a solution with was a bit long-winded but worked - at least in IE and Chrome - however, it doesn't work in Firefox (which suggests my code is a bit sloppy). I think my radio button reference is the issue. Can anyone help with what I have done wrong - apart from use an inefficient approach for validation :-)?
    A simplified version of my form:
    <script>
    function validateForm()
    var aa=document.forms["personalise"]["motivation"]["1a"];
    var ab=document.forms["personalise"]["motivation"]["1b"];
    var ac=document.forms["personalise"]["motivation"]["1c"];
    var ad=document.forms["personalise"]["motivation"]["1d"];
    var ae=document.forms["personalise"]["motivation"]["1e"];
    if (!(aa.checked == true || ab.checked == true || ac.checked == true || ad.checked == true || ae.checked == true))
    alert("Question 1 must be completed");
    return false;
    </script>
    <form name="personalise" action="insertdatatest.php" onsubmit="return validateForm()" method="post">
    1. Are you seriously planning to quit </b>:&nbsp;&nbsp;
    <input id="1a" type="Radio" title="" name="motivation" value="1" /> Within the next 2 weeks
    <input id="1b" type="Radio" title="" name="motivation" value="2" /> Within the next 30 days

    <input id="1e" type="Radio" title="" name="motivation" value="5" /> I have already quit
    <input type="submit" value = "Submit">
    </form>
    For My Website : http://www.schoolanduniversity.com

    Thanks for your support,
    This will partly solve the issue I think. Now, the validation is indeed only done for the first form. But I need to save data twice when entering data in the second grid. When checking the error console in mozilla I see following error:
    Error: grid[r] is undefined
    Which is reffering to:
              if ((grid[r] [1] != missing) ||(grid[r][2] != missing) || (grid[r][3] != missing))
    When I save again, the data will be saved without this error.
    Is there a way to exclude the second grid in the if Statement?

    Erik

  • CSS :: IE and FireFox issues

    Hi.
    I am developing a website (
    see
    here) using CSS which displays fine in IE. However, when I view
    it in FireFox, I have two major issues:
    1. On all pages, the navigation bar seems to be stretched and
    hence the links become offset.
    2. On the 'Info' page, the tariffs table is stretched
    vertically.
    Does anyone know how to solve these two very annoying issues?

    Change your 'padding' to as below:
    #menu {
    position:absolute;
    padding: 0 0 10px 0;
    margin:0;
    left:161px;
    top:110px;
    height:2em;
    width:830px;
    list-style-type:none;
    border:1px solid #bbb;
    background-color:#EEE;
    > 2. On the 'Info' page, the tariffs table is stretched
    vertically.
    Many html tags including <p> paragraph and <h>
    headings have default
    margins and paddings. This is what you are seeing, which
    makes the table
    stretch vertically.
    Add an 'id' to the tarifs table called surprisingly or not
    'tarifs' as
    below:
    <table id="tarifs" width="483" border="0" cellpadding="0"
    cellspacing="0">
    Then add this css to your style sheet:
    #tarifs p, #tarifs h2 {
    margin: 0 0 0 0;
    padding: 0 0 0 0;
    You can change the values until you have the correct amount
    of space,
    top, right, bottom, left
