I tried downloading a firefox version (3.6?) that was compatible with Mac 10.4 and replacing the firefox on my system but it did not work.

Just upgraded to OSx10.6.6 and now aperture 3 wont run. It was running before i upgraded. tried reinstalling aperture from the disk and dowloading updates but still no go. other programs are fine (photoshop etc) but not aperture.
I am on a macbook pro 17in (2.8ghzintel core 2 duo with 8gb ram)

I try and lauch aperture (click on icon in dock..have also tried icon in application folder) and i get an error message that says Aperture cannot be opened because of a problem. check with developer..... you may need to reinstall....) tried reinstalling from disk. also downloaded updates from apple and when click on update it tells me i must have aperture 3 installed for update to work. i DO have aperture 3 installed but it wont recognize it. i have tried restarting my machine that did't help either. Terence, you seem to be the foremost expert on apeture and iphoto and have helped me many times in the past (thanks). I have a question that you may be able to help with (anyone also feel free to take a stab). I use blogger to upload my photos and host my blog (www.sippingespresso.com). I spend hours organzing and editing photos - namely, I will enhance and sometimes alter an image in Apeture. It always saves over the orginal file (at least for viewing purposes), which is fine by me. But then when I go to upload the photos onto blogger it seems to always pull my dull, original image. Obviously, I want the newer, bright, enhanced photo.
I'm one step away from importing them, dragging them out of iphoto and into Photoshop, then editing the files and dragging them back into iphoto, deleting the originals and uploading from there. There HAS to be a better way - please help!! I've already posted far too many boring images without the beauty of Apeture's "auto enhance".

I just updated to 10.9.2 and now my monitor cannot rotate

I just updated to 10.9.2 and now my palette monitor has:
1) Lost the ability to rotate
2) Forgotten my background image
3) Changed resolution
It is a LG Flatron E2351.
I have found others having similar problems and one person has solved it using 'sudo' commands in the command window (something I'm not up to doing) and that scares me a bit... especially since the problem seems to recur after a second reboot.
This is a MASSIVE oversight by Apple and i'm quite upset that they would not allow 3RD party monitors or displays!
I use mine (as mentioned) as a palette for video and graphics purposes... and because I cannot fit 2x landscape monitors.
This needs to be ammended ASAP by Apple. I expect public outcry... I'm hopeful for it... Just like the removal of "mail merge" from Numbers... I'm starting to scratch my head at Apples [P.J.] decisions "post Jobs".

My colleagues and I have a similar type issue after upgrading from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2.
We all use mid-2011 Macbook Pro's and also use a sapphiretech Vid-2x displayport to dual DVI adapter. This adapter essentially bonds two additional external displays into one large monitor. i.e. two 24-inch displays now become "one" supporting 3840x1080 resolution. The only caveat to using this adapter is that both monitors need to be of the same model. There are no drivers needed to use this hardware adapter.
We don't have displayports per se, rather we use the thunderbolt port. The Vid-2x adapters have worked fine for us from 10.7 - 10.9.1.
Since some of us upgraded to 10.9.2 we've all experienced the same issue in that the Mac no longer recognizes the Vid-2x as being capable of the proper 3840x1080 resolution we require. The best we can get is 3200x1200. Another interesting note is that there are at least three different model pairs of monitors being used by us (Samsung, Asus, Dell).

It sounds like you're not able to use iMessage on your iPad. You've tried some good troubleshooting steps, and I'd recommend these additional steps:
Turn off iMessage and FaceTime and restart
Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
Go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.
Restart your device.
Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on.
Still not activated after an hour?
It might take a few minutes to activate iMessage and FaceTime. If you've waited more than an hour, try these steps:
Make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS.
If you're using an iPhone, contact your carrier to make sure that you can receive SMS messages.
Contact Apple Support.

How do i uninstall the Aperture Update?

ok, so i was updating on something from the software update, and by accident, i forgot to un-mark the Aperture software update (1.5.6)
and i found it un-useful because i dont even use Aperture, and the Update is like a 100 MB big, and seeing my HD's limit for other stuffs
so i was hoping you guys can teach me how to uninstall only the update without have to reinstall the Aperture itself ( so let it be like how it is before i update )

If you aren't using Aperture at all, just delete it. Also, don't assume that a 100MB update will use up 100MB extra disk space as it will often be replacing existing files.
And not to forget that 100MB is tiny these days when it comes to HD space... it's around 8 RAW files from my 5D.

If I choose for firefox.exe.....nothing happens.
Quit strange. I am quit well with computers, but this is really strange to me.

I finally figured out what was wrong. Since I had installed Google Chrome recently it already had the Adobe Flash Player imbedded in it.
When I uninstalled the flash player in Control Panel option the problem went away.

Remove your work email from the Mac email app.
If you are referring to iMessages, you would need to remove that account from iMessages.

Definitely check out what SJobsFan says.
If that doesn't work, you can try some basic troubleshooting found in the following articles. Most of the time, you need to contact your carrier and see about a new SIM card though if those steps don't fix it.
