Firefox keep lagging, freezing and crashing since update 4 when many tabs opened (3 windows, about 150-200 tabs total)

After upgrading to FF4 problems with flash plugin started, even gif animation keeps lagging. With so much tabs previous version could perfectly manage. I have a 4-core processor, so 64-bit version would be awesome

Because you still have problems with Firefox in safe mode, I think the problem
is with something in the computer. Check that everything is updated. Even
if you are sure it is.
Have you [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware checked for mal-ware?]
I'm going to call in the big guys to help out.

  • Freezing and crashing since updating to 10.6.3

    iMac C2D 2.66 4GB 10.6.4
Ever since I updated to 10.6.3 my iMac has gotten wacky. It freezes or crashes like the old OS 9 days. It was working just fine with no problems until I did the update. When I first updated I immediately had issues like fonts all changed on some websites and then it started freezing/crashing. No KP's; just freezing, or mouse still moving but not activating anything, a solid grey screen, or-my favorite-what looked like a bar code filling my screen; vertical black and white lines.
I have run DU, Tech Tools, Hardware and Extended Hardware tests, and Disk Warrior finding nothing but a Directory issue which DU and DW said was repaired.
I updated to 10.6.4 which hasn't resolved the issue although the crashes/freezes seem to be less frequent. I am planning on doing an archive and install but was told that will it save the updates meaning I will be back to 10.6.4.
This is getting very tiring and very un-Apple like. It's like I have a Windows machine now and after years (post OS9) of crash free computing I'm not happy...
Any ideas of what to check next?

I'm a Graphic Designer and use Adobe CS4 apps. While using Illustrator on my iMac (2006), the app freezes after about ten minutes. I'm thinking I should just UNINSTALL Snow Leopard since it worked fine before. I've updated everything since this problem began with no results.
If I uninstall will Tiger remain?

  • I just updated to 4.0.1 and I get the "We're sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We will try to open your tabs/windows when Firefox restarts" However, it just keeps popping back up, firefox never restarts!!!

This morning I had a popup on my Windows XP PC stating that the 4.0.1 update was available. I upgraded. now, i receive the following error: We're sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We will try to open your tabs/windows when Firefox restarts. You can submit crash report data, blah blah blah (which i have submitted several)
But, firefox DOES NOT ever open. It just pops back up with that same report window, over and over.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

  • Updating message of firefox keeps popping up and I already updated it

Updating message keeps popping up and I already updated to 5.0 version

Normally warnings are fakes but in your case I am not sure.
Your sytem info aside is indicating you are using Firefox 21, so either you are using an out of date and unsupported version of Firefox, or something is going wrong and Firefox is not reporting the correct information.
When you use the Firefox button and the help option you should get an option about firefox that confirms the version you are using.
Possibly you have security software preventing updates. Have a look at these articles then please post back and confirm what version you are using.

  • Apps keep refreshing and crashing since update to iOS 7

Ever since I updated to the iOS 7 my apps keep constantly crashing. Or when I go to multitasking it refreshes it and I lose my data, spot, game, etc.  This is on both my iPhone and my iPad 2. It's really starting to get frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or know if Apple is working in the issue?

    How are you?
    Did you find an answer?
Other than jail breaking the unit?
I have the exact same problem with my IPad 2 and my daughter's IPhone 4S not with my IPhone 5 though.
I've done everything possible, every-time I go back into my Google Maps, it refreshes to my location instead of what I had searched only seconds before. The same issue with my Pages. It's constantly freezing for a few seconds and it was not happening before the upgrade to IOS7. No one has a solution.
But I am going to tell you that as much as I used to love my IPad, I'm now searching for a different device. Just can't handle the frustration any longer.
I wonder if what my friend says that with every upgrade your older unit slows down and crashes and you're forced to look into a new one, has some kind of validity?
Ahope17, if get anywhere with this please let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Numbers constantly freezing and crashing since 7.0.2 update

This is happening on my iPhone and iPad. A very simple spreadsheet containing only text and numbers is crashing just from making small changes. If I extend a column, edit a cell, pretty much do anything, it will just lock up. Eventually it crashes or I have to manually kill it.
I was editing this same document on iOS 7.0 with no problem just yesterday. Anyone else notice a problem?

I got an email from the iWork support team and they asked me to try some things. The one that seems to be working is turning off all accessibility options in your settings. I only had two enabled: noise cancellation and guided access. I turned both off and have not crashed since. I even tuned both back on yesterday and spent about 10 minutes working on my spreadsheet with no problems.
Let me know if this helps. It worked on mine.

  • Lagging freezing and crashing

I can't remember when it started.
My iMac (2 years) started taking too much time processing: while typing, for example, it showed nothing, and after I stopped he started showing the letters.
Then the beach ball appeared most of the time. i was using Firefox by that time.
I had to force quit several times.
Tried to update Firefox, didn't work.
Most of the time I had to force quit or even shut down completely. Some times it even didn't restore (blue screen or apple screen forever), had to shut down again and let it for a while.
Tried Safari, started well, then the whole situation of lagging, freezing crashing started.
Tried Google Chrome. Started beautifully. Now the whole situation again.
I cannot work for a straight hour. The beach ball is always there!!
Yesterday I downloaded the last combo of updates for OS 10.6.8, I updated my CS5 (Bridge, PS, InDesign, Illustrator and Camera Raw).
I have two external drives, but never used the Time Machine feature.
I'm not a experienced technical person.
    Any clue?
I'm really planning asking for Apple support. I have lots of work to finish (I cannot finish them on a PC - Mac only app)... but if anybody can give me a clue for now... I'm really getting crazy about it.
    Thank you!

    Hi
I have a similar story. It also started with Firefox showing the beach ball. Now, it is mostly the Finder who shows it when doing any action. I can be working in an application with no problem, but the moment I use the finder to save a file in a different location, the beach ball appears.
Once the first symptom, everything starts complicating and, in some cases, the whole computer freezes. I can not even use the Command+Alt+Esc to invoke the window to close the unresponsive programs. It all ends with a hard switch off of the computer.
Although I have not found yet the solution to the problems, I can advance what I did. It may be that you are a bit luckier and any of these help.
    > Repair permissions & verify disk (in "Utilities" > Disk Utility)
    > Used Onyx  to clean all caches
    > Disconnected external USB drives, tablet, printers, etc. (all peripherals).
My system HD has plenty of emtpy space (a bit more than 200Gb)
Hope anyone can suggest something different.
    Regards.

    Hello,
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.
    </blockquote>
    thank you for responding.
this does not solve my problem, as i mentioned the problem is with the HTML5 player, i've been using flash player since forever and used to open up to 50 tabs without having any problems, with the new default html5 thingy i cannot open a couple of tabs without the browser dying slowly.. my original question was how can i disable the HTML5 player and make the flash player be the default player

  • Photobucket site and other sites cause Firefox v19 to "freeze" and crash. All the time. Photobucket causes Firefox v19, to slow, then crash.

If you view photos for an extended time, or open a few tabs, Photobucket will cause Firefox to slow down, eventually freeze, then crash. This only started occurring when I updated to Firefox v19.0. This freezing and blanking out of the entire screen image of Firefox will occur when another program, such as Windows mail, is loading at the same time. It also is occurring at random times for no reason. I've never experienced a problem such as this with Firefox or Mozilla, ever. Nothing is preventing this from happening. I have Vista Home Premium, SP2. Dell Inspiron 530s.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove your Photobucket cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help at all?

  • Firefox 4 screen freezes and mouse does not click after it opens and clicks fine once or twice

I downloaded Firefox 4 for Mac yesterday. It worked fine all day. Today it opened fine. After one or two clicks of my mouse the screen froze and did not respond to any clicks or mouse movement. I have tried closing and reopening and also downloading Firefox 4 again. No luck. It continues to open fine, work for the first couple of clicks and then freeze. No other part of my laptop is affected. Safari works fine too. So I am guessing it is a problem with Firefox.

My McCaffee was a trial thing, I think. I clicked on it to see if it was updated, and it said it was expired. So I'm just going to uninstall it completely and install AdAware, which is all I've ever used for years and never had a problem.
It occurs to me -- this must (?) have something to do with my new computer... it was slow right out of the box, and I called ASUS tech support the second day I had the puter up and running, and the tech asked me to do a System File Check (SFC), but discovered that the normal pathways through which one would do a SFC (according to him) did not work - the machine would not either recognize them or it would simply swallow the command and then just do nothing... he put me on hold for a few minutes. He came back with a workaround (don't remember it exactly, but it involved a DOS prompt), and I was able to finally run a SFC, which revealed "corrupted files" that had to be "repaired."
In a brand new computer? That can't be a good thing... Maybe the system software factory install was just a bad install? Because I had some slow Firefox issues on my old machine (Acer, dual core, 4gRAM, 2009 machine), but NOTHING like this. This is getting very frustrating. I'm used to just sitting down to my computer and using it, not sitting down and fighting with it for 2 or 3 minutes or more before i can do anything.

  • ITunes freezes and crashes every time I try to open it

MacBook using OS X 10.9.2 - Every time (without exception) I try to open iTunes, it goes to the "Accessing iTunes Store" window, and then stays there while launching that much dreaded Mac "spinning wheel of death"....
I have to force quit in order to get rid of it since I do not have access to any of the iTunes menu items while this is all going on.
Have no idea what to do...

    Hi exyalie,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
What version of iTunes are you using?  You may need to update your software or reinstall it (this affects the application, not your data).  I would also suggest quitting the application, restarting the computer and resetting the SMC (see below).
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Disconnect from the internet (turn off Wi-Fi) and unplug ethernet -- and then try launching iTunes again.
There are more troubleshooting steps in these articles:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
Add-ons, such as plug-ins and scripts, not manufactured by Apple (third-party) add features to iTunes or modify its appearance and behavior. Using these can interfere with how you use iTunes. For example, if you upgrade to a newer version of iTunes, your add-ons may not be compatible.
    Slow performance
iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly
If you see the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any third-party plug-ins by opening iTunes in Safe Mode:  OS X: Hold down Option-Command.
Click Continue and see if any issues persist.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Freezing and crashing too much, too often - why?

Firefox has been freezing and crashing several times a week in the last couple of months. Today, Jan 21, 2011, it froze once and crashed twice before 9:30am EST!!!
I believe that some glitch in FF has caused GMAIL to malfunction. The GMAIL forum has dozens of users who are having difficulties with GMAIL and FF!
I am frustrated and fed up! Until I receive confirmation that all these problems are PERMANENTLY RESOLVED, I will be using GOOGLE Chrome!

seems from scrolling thru the forum that lots of people are having variations of this problem-me too...and yet the number count of individual posts is not inclusive of the reality of how broad spread this problem seems.

  • Mac keeps freezing and crashing

    Hi,
I'm on a late 2009 iMac (3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo, 12 GB 1067 DDR3, 1TB HD) with Yosemite. I installed Yosemite a few days ago. Previously I ran Mountain Lion.
While on Mountain Lion the mac suddenly started freezing and crashing. I could still move the cursor, and most of the time my sound kept working (although the screen had frozen I could keep on calling via Skype - music and videos mostly stopped working after a minute or so), but I had to force turn off the mac. Upon rebooting most of the time I couldn't get past the start-up screen with the grey progress bar and Apple logo. The problem persists with Yosemite. There isn't any specific program which seems to cause it - I've had crashes running many different things. It doesn't seem to be a kernel panic: I've had only one instance where the grey letters would show up. Otherwise it just crashes.
I've tried many things to fix it already:
    - running DiskWarrior and removing corrupted files
    - removing dubious third party extensions
    - removing unnecessary login items/Launch Daemons/Launch Agents (after running EtreCheck)
    - I ran AHT twice (nothing came up) and Rember once (idem)
    - ran recovery mode to verify the disk (nothing came up)
    - ran Safe Boot for a while (no crashes), which causes me to believe it's a software-related problem.
I reinstalled Yosemite yesterday. It will only boot into safe mode since. While booting normally I can't get past the white screen.
About three months ago a faulty HD was replaced and RAM (8 GB) was added, both done in an Apple store. I've no reason yet to believe it's hardware-related because every test comes up clean, but I'm obviously not sure.
I don't know what to do next other than bringing it to the store. Any help would be much appreciated. Because I'm in safe mode my EtreCheck report differs from the normal report - if it's helpful to post it anyway, I will.
    Thanks!
