Firefox keeps crahing when I close a tab or minimize the browser, any fix?

This started happening two days ago, I have not closed any tabs for the past hour and firefox is working just fine. But, it continues to crash when closing a tab or trying to minimize the browser. I did not see a fix listed for this. Please help!

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
#Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Why does Firefox keep me logged into websites after closing and reopening the browser?

As of today, Firefox has been behaving differently. Namely, when I close Firefox and reopen, I am still logged in to email and other sites. I have all of my privacy settings checked, such as clear history, offline data, form history, etc etc so that they all will be deleted upon closing but this has no effect. Can someone provide insight as to why this is happening and how I can correct it? Before today, after closing and reopening the browser I was required to log in to any sites requiring UN and PW.
I have rechecked all history deletion options to make sure all the appropriate ones were selected. Yesterday, I noticed inbox.com and a program called 24x7 Help were installed on the computer, without my knowledge. I promptly uninstalled them, but I'm not sure if they could somehow be responsible for the odd behavior.

Such a behavior indicates that you keep the cookie(s) that verify that you are logged on to a web server.
Are you using session restore to open those tabs automatically?
    * Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
You can set the <b>browser.sessionstore.privacy_level</b> pref to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
You can change the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred pref that is used when you do not reopen the previous session automatically via "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

  • Firefox crashes when I close a tab

Frequently, but not always Firefox will crash when I close a tab. I might have 3 - 7 tabs open and I can move between them or refresh one without a problem but if I click on the 'X' to close the tab I get a message saying firefox has stopped working. When I restart I am asked if I want to restore. If I do I can close the tab I was trying to close earlier without a problem.
I am running Vista Home Premium - completely up to date on a QC50 laptop This isn't happening on my Win 7 desktop. Firefox & all extensions are up to date (this didn't start happening until I updated to 5.0.1)

News 1. Mozilla has told me that there will be a fix by the end of the month. 2. I have asked Mozilla to contact me as soon as the fix is available. 3. I will monitor Norton and Firefox from 08:00 to 17:00 CT and update this forum entry when the fix becomes available. 4. Because the most current release of Firefox is 18.0.1, most future updates will be done to forum entry

  • The small icons beside my bookmarks, like the F for facebook, keep disappearing when i close firefox, why is this?

the small icons beside my bookmarks, logos for each site keep clearing when i close firefox. when i open the bookmark the logo comes back while im on the site, but when i close it again, it goes again, why is this?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.
Using [[Clear Recent History]] to clear item when you close Firefxo can also cause problems, so you can try to uncheck items in you use that feature.

  • Why when I have 3 tabs open and when I close one tab, all tabs shut down and crashes? The it asks me to restore or not? How do I fix this issue?

I open the firefox and open 3 tabs, when i close 1 tab, all will close down and crashes then it tells me to restart or close. It was never like this!!! How do I fix this problem.

Try to disable Norton addons in Firefox. They will be releasing an update at the end of the month to fix these crashes.

  • After 30min of having FF open when I close a tab a msg pops up -Javascript application "Unable to clean current element: TypeError: can't access dead object"

After around 30min of having FF open when I close a tab a message pops up:
    Javascript application
Unable to clean current element: TypeError: can't access dead object
    OK
It randomly stops showing the message for periods of about 30 min.

hello MichaelStevens, this is very likely caused by one of your addons (maybe one which is performing a certain action every 30mins).

    Hello Deb,
Something fishy going on with those particular files. But without looking at them directly I couldn't say what. Usually in a case like this the problem is some of the metadata that is attached to the file. Where did these files come from? A camera, a scanner, the internet?
An explanation about the Watched Folder function: It looks for changes to a folder, not just automatically grabbing whatever files are in it. Generally, you want to select an empty folder as a Watch Folder. Once this has been set up, as you add files to this folder they will be imported into the Organizer. If you start with a folder full of images, those will be ignored, any new items will be added.

  • Firefox keeps crashing when I search something up on Google

Firefox keeps crashing when I search something up on Google. The homepage for Google works fine but once I search for anything, the program just freezes. Whats wrong? I am running the new Firefox 4.0, Windows 7 64-bit. This problem never happened with Firefox 3.6

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Firefox keeps halting when what seems to be a Flash video runs.

P.S. "scoobidiver" in the contributors forum just posted the following:
Since Firefox 9, all issues with slow Flash content or hangs in the French support forum have been caused by the Ask toolbar although users have uninstalled it with the Windows Removing Program feature. Sometimes, they don't even know it was installed.

  • Can I close one tab without exiting the app?

I cannot find an icon or link to allow me to close an individual tab without shutting down the entire application. can't imagine you would have eliminated that. Thanks, rob

    Thanks, Matt
I phrased my question badly, but also experimented and found the answer.
I intended to describe the situation where I had more than one window open, with several tabs in each.
Often, I will want to close all the tabs in one window while keeping the other window active.
I used to use the "Close this Tab" link in the menu to do that.
I experimented with using the "X" in the upper right of the window, since the tab itself disappears when there is just one open in a window ... and that worked.
    Thanks, again
(Not as simple as before, but I guess they value less "clutter" in the menus ?)

  • I have now transfered my files of ripped CD's to my iTunes library three times. On each occassion, the conversion seems to occur fine, the files play, but when I close my computer and return the next day, iTunes says it cannot locate any of those files.

I have now transfered my files of ripped CD's to my iTunes library three times Since upgrading to iTunes 11 and Windows 8. On each occassion, the conversion seems to occur fine, the files play, but when I close my computer and return the next day, iTunes says it cannot locate any of those files. Three times. Beginning to lose my temper. Advice? Suggestions? Could the fact that my original library is located on a network drive have anything to do with it? Thanks for your help, all.

    Repair security permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7/8 shouldn't be too different.
Repeat for the media folder if it isn't a subfolder of the iTunes folder.

  • Some tabs wont allow me to close them unless i restart the browser

Every time i open firefox the last tab that is open won't allow me to close it with out restarting the browser.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
You can try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 255 to a more modest setting like 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.
