Firefox keeps freezing unexpectedly, and I cannot find a cause or solution.

locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/792922
While using Firefox 4.0 RC, on Vista Business platform, the program keeps unexpectedly freezing. It usually does so while loading a page, but it is never the same page, and it will even freeze while in Panorama. When the program starts acting up it just keeps cycling, like its waiting for a connection or something, until I click on the window, in which case the top bar says Firefox is not responding. The thing is not generating crash reports. Whenever I tell the frozen window to close, I just get asked if I want to close the program or wait for it to respond, which it never does.

Hi, I have this same problem, started with the last version of Mozilla FF, and I downloaded 4.0 as the help suggest this would solve the problem in fact it has got worse, so much so as that I dont use M F now but have moved to chrome, which means if it dont get fixed fast I will get used toanother browser and thats it
thanks
Mike

Hi If you get an error message saying your flash is blocked by firewall or needs updating or similar and you just get the spinning colour wheel try this link
It takes you to Adobe which tells you which ver of flash player you have - you can then see if there is a later ver by clicking on the library and it automatically selects the correct version for you to download.
Worked a treat for me! Good Luck

Ps Don't forget to use a browser other than firefox or you will be there for days.

• Need to install for but mac says that firefox is already installed and I cannot find it.

I am trying to install TOR (had many moons ago and thought I closed it). It says that firefox is already running and I can't open it twice. Possibly I have firefox and possibly I don't. I cannot find it anywhere, nothing to drag to the trash. I want to reinstall it after, but I can't find it anywhere in my computer. I just get the warning when I try to install TOR.

Hello <!-- XXX you may wish to edit this greeting, and other parts of the response so that it is personalised to the question asked.--> ,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b>Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. • Firefox keeps freezing unexpectedly

I recently updated to Firefox 15.0.1, and I'm having a lot of trouble with it constantly freezing. This doesn't happen on any one website and is very random in occurrence. I have already tried running in safe mode and updated flash, and I'm still having the problem. After a few seconds, it may start responding again however, most of the time it continues to hang. In order to close Firefox when this happens, I have to open task manager and end the process because nothing in the browser responds. This has become very annoying, and I would appreciate any help I can get to solve the issue. Thanks!
UPDATE: I've noticed that the freezing seems to happen every time I check my email (Yahoo & Gmail), and when I'm on Pandora. It still occurs randomly at other times, but I noticed it's very consistent with these sites.

I'm having exactly the same problems as above, it froze just now as I tried to click on reply !! At the time I only had BTMail open and Ebay, no other programs running on the computer, plenty of memory, CP usage 27%, physical memory 40%, however bearing in mind this session has only been open for 15 mins, working memory is already running at 332,808 ( 10 mins on and it's up to 363,964 ) and private working set at 279,976 !! ( this also has increased to 310,196) !!!! this is with just BTMail, Ebay and this page open.
As others have mentioned it doesn't follow a particular pattern, it happens with only one tab or many tabs open. Youtube can cause FF to freeze more particularly when viewing a video, the same happens when viewing a video on say BT news, Yahoo news etc.
All drivers etc. are up to date and yes I have done the re-install several times, used a new profile etc.
If, after it has crashed, I view exactly the same sites that I was viewing on IE, there have never been any problems, even if I leave IE open all day and IE, viewing the same site uses less memory.
I've been with Firefox since it's inception, sadly, and increasingly, problems seem to appear far too regularly with each update.
Time to move on to another browser ?
I wonder!

• I keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get it when I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon.

I've just installed Firefox on my laptop and keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get this message whenever I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon. I've never gotten it to work and even uninstalled it and then redownloaded it and still cannot get it to open. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Are you installing from the official site? http://www.mozilla.com/firefox
If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:
Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/

• Firefox keeps freezing and using 50% cpu and memory usage shoots up most of the time it's when there's an auto update of anything addon, plugin or ff!

Firefox keeps freezing and using 50% cpu and memory usage shoots up real fast and carries on going till it uses up all there is left. Most of the time it's when there's an auto update of anything addon, plugin or ff but not just neccessarily then! I find out it's happened when there's been an update after i restart and an extra webpage comes up with the particular addon/plugin/ff update. I have to restart most of time because nothing sorts it out. I'm using windows xp with the latest update of ff 13.0.1 it's not this version because it's been happening for a while. And it never started when i added a particular addon or plugin or when i added a new app to my pc either. Any idea as to what this may be or how i'd sort it out?
Cheers

Maybe disable hardware acceleration? This article should help: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram

• HT1349 my phone keeps freezing on settings, I cannot make or receive a call but everything else is working including internet and mail. where it should be showing the reception bars it is only showing a broken line. How do I resolve this?

my phone keeps freezing on settings, I cannot make or receive a call but everything else is working including internet and mail. where it should be showing the reception bars it is only showing a broken line. How do I resolve this?

If you are not showing reception bars, then I don't know how the data is working? Have you tried doing a reset? Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, check to see if it works. If that doesn't help, then try removing the SIM card, then reinserting it. If that doesn't help, then contact your carrier for assistance in calling.

• Firefox redirects all my Google searches, and Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware and SuperAntiSpyware cannot find the virus; I suspect is a Java issue

My computer has a virus that makes Google searches in Firefox be redirected to other sites - mostly search engines. I've used McAfee, Malwarebytes and others, and I cannot find the solution. I suspect that the virus is hiding itself as a program, using Java to deploy. Any help will be more than helpful!

Well your Flixxy.com stuff isn't related to it. What exactly you are looking for is here.
"firefox" > options > options
Under the General Tab, specify your home page in this case google.com.
If you are facing trouble with the home page being reset every time, then try starting firefox in safe mode.
firefox > Help > restart with add-on's disabled
Cheers!

• Firefox keeps freezing with new tab even in safe mode

Firefox keeps freezing, so there's no chance of even a crash report, I can only get out via TaskManager/End process. I usually have dict and thesaurus open while writing, usually with second tab my browser is a still.
It's very annoying as it's also stuck on my screen for a while so I can't continue to work.
I really need that to work or I have to switch to a different browser!
Thank you.

• Firefox keeps freezing on startup, does not quit even from task manager but after 5-6 minutes.

Firefox keeps freezing at start up. Unfreezes after 5-6 minutes works for a while and then does the same till total crash.
Have tried everything. Uninstalled firefox and deleted all profiles from everywhere ( roaming and local in Appdata)
Disabled add ons , started in safe mode , with new profile.
Windows 7 64 ultimate, fully updated, Adobe also fully updated, all fully updated. Though I have noticed it does not recognize the Adobe flash 16 and says Adobe flash15 as an add on. Nowhere the adobe 15 exists though since it's entries also erased from the registry as well.
GHistory and cookies where cleaned multiple times. Checked for malaware but everything is clean. Started PC in safe mode and again the same crashing problem with firefox.
No other browser has problem. IceDragon also no problem and works fine.Neither the Chrome type browsers have any problem.
any help excluding to eraze my Windows and reinstall all the programs again. Not possible to take this risk for just a browser.

• Firefox keeps freezing in office, but not in other public/home network

Firefox keeps freezing starting from yesterday in my office wireless network. When it is opened, the browser screen does not show up, I have to right click on the icon in order to have the screen brought up. Search bar and tab functions respond real slow. However, everything works perfectly fine in public and my home network.
I'd really appreciate your input and help.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.

• I delete my safari, and I cannot find a safari to download, my system is Mac OS X 10.6.8

I delete my safari, and I cannot find a safari to download, my system is Mac OS X 10.6.8
If you have the software, can you sent to my e-mail :[email protected]  Thank you!

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:
OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory
8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Yosemite is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). Mountain Lion can be obtained the Online Apple Store. (Mavericks is no longer available.)
If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.

• FireFox keep saying "unexpected error" when trying to print web pages.

FireFox keep saying "unexpected error" when trying to print web pages. The print preview works OK, but when you try to print that "unexpected error" jumps up.
Please email me on what to do to get FireFox to work.
I don't see anything in the FAQ that might help me.

Hi,
Please also try this setting: Windows start menu or Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer > Printer properties > Advanced, and select Start printing after the last page is spooled. In this case you can also close Firefox after spooling is over (usually much faster than direct printing), and printing will continue.
Also as a general case, if you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration modules/areas of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization, HIPS etc., in addition to the security software's main configuration panel. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes in all the different modules/panels - a genuine/original Firefox installer as well as all the installed EXEs (Application) and DLLs (Application extension) are digitally signed by Mozilla Corporation (right-click > Properties > Digital Signatures). Even otherwise, some security software may also ask again when Firefox and/or its sub processes are started, and you may be able to allow/trust at that time. Please see this.

I have exclamation marks and itunes cannot find original file. How do I locate original file?

Check you have your iTunes settings (Edit, Preferences, Advanced) to keep iTunes library organised.
Your songs should be in your music library in iTunes, iTunes Media, Music.
If they are not, start menu, type the name of a song in the box and the list should show you where that is located.
