Firefox keeps loading multiple tabs of: Index of file:///c:program files/mozilla
    Here are the details:
I start Firefox (6.0.2.4262) (I'm running version 6 due to compatibility issues with my online college having problems uploading files with FF version 7 or 8)
I enter a web address (i.e. www.yahoo.com) and as soon as the page begins to load I have multiple tabs and windows opening.
When I attempt to close one of the windows it gives the warning I am try to close "22 tabs" - yep... 22 tabs.
If I allow FF to keep loading all the tabs, etc., about a minute later it will crash. The submit a crash window appears.
I have all extensions and add-ons disabled.
I even uninstalled Java, Flash, and several other programs in hopes that the problem would stop.
In addition, I ran a malwarebytes scan and an Avira virus scan which both came up clean. I also used CCleaner to wipe out history and clean the registry. I even made hidden files visible and deleted the Mozilla install folders under my user name.
So, then in hopes of searching for some answers on the Mozilla forums I started up the horrible Internet Explorer and also get a million different pages loading of the preset homepage of "msn.com", which also crashes
(I apologize for starting and using IE, but I was limited on resources to check the internet for info)
If anyone can offer some assistance, or advice on this issue I would greatly appreciate it.
    I am also using:
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    SP1
    Thank you,
    Biff

  • Since upgrading to version 32, firefox always opens old tabs when starting, even though i do not have this option set. Version 33.0.3 does the same.

When I updated Firefox to version 32, it started to always show my tabs from the last session when it is started. I tried changing the option "when Firefox starts" to all three of the available choices. None of these changed the behavior. It still opens the tabs that were last opened. I waited for the next release (33.0.3) but the behavior is still the same. I would like Firefox to open to my selected home page.
    I'm running Windows 7 Pro.

One possibility is that Firefox keeps crashing during shutdown, and so Firefox is recovering from a crash every time. But if you can see that it is shutting down normally in your testing, that probably isn't it.
Sometimes external software will create or update an optional settings file named user.js. For some reason, one of the things that often shows up in there is a preference to restore your previous session just once. However, because Firefox uses user.js to override your normal settings every time it starts, that then turns into a permanent change. To check for this and remove any user.js file you find, try this support article: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • I would like Firefox to load multiple tabs when I load the program

IE allows its users to specify multiple tabs to open every time IE opens (multiple home pages tabs?). How can I do this with Firefox? I was sure that it at least HAD been an option at one point in time.

  • Latest version of firefox keeps opening new tabs when I don't want it to - how can I stop it from doing that?

I'm running 8.01. Another PC next to me is at 8.0, and it doesn't do that.

"Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file ''cookies.sqlite'' that stores the cookies is corrupted.
You can rename (or delete) '''cookies.sqlite''' (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete '''cookies.sqlite-journal''' and '''cookies.txt''', if they exist, in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • How can I stop Firefox from opening loads of tabs when I try to open a attachment?

When I try to open a file within a file I get loads of untitled tabs(295) and the file I want doesn't open. This started yesterday when I was trying to view my utility bill nad i now can't view anything.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.<br />
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.<br />
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set the offending action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask'<br />

Thanks for the reply. I never get the option to "Restore Previous History" from History. I don't even have the box checked that asks to delete the history when Firefox closes. I don't know what's wrong, no matter what, I always lose everything. I have the box marked "Show my windows and tabs from last time" for when I open Firefox, but it never shows that, just my homepage. Also, when I check my History, it only shows the pages that I opened since I started Firefox, nothing from before. Even if I were to open up 10 pages now, close Firefox, and open it, the history would only show the homepage that opened this time, not any of the 10 pages that I opened 5 minutes ago.

  • My itouch mail keeps loading old emails and displaying them as unread.  If I delete them it just loads 50 more older ones

My itouch mail keeps loading old emails and displaying them as unread.  If I delete them, 50 more load....old ones that I have long since read and discarded.  Any suggestions.  It appears to be only 1 of my email accounts that does this.  I have deleted the account and resynced to get it back in use, but 50 old emails come up as if they are new unread ones.  Thanks for any help.

I am having the same issue and it started the same day.  My other mac does it as well but has been an issue for two years.  I just gave up on it and stopped using email from that mac.  I just spend 4 days trouble shooting ti myself when i had time and now spent 2 hours with apple on a chat and screen share and they couldnt solve it either.

  • FireFox keep saying "unexpected error" when trying to print web pages.

FireFox keep saying "unexpected error" when trying to print web pages. The print preview works OK, but when you try to print that "unexpected error" jumps up.
Please email me on what to do to get FireFox to work.
I don't see anything in the FAQ that might help me.

    Hi,
Please also try this setting: Windows start menu or Control Panel > '''Devices and Printers''', right-click the printer > '''Printer properties''' > '''Advanced''', and select '''Start printing after the last page is spooled'''. In this case you can also close Firefox after spooling is over (usually much faster than direct printing), and printing will continue.
Also as a general case, if you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration modules/areas of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization, HIPS etc., in addition to the security software's main configuration panel. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes in all the different modules/panels - a genuine/original Firefox installer as well as all the installed EXEs (Application) and DLLs (Application extension) are digitally signed by Mozilla Corporation (right-click > Properties > Digital Signatures). Even otherwise, some security software may also ask again when Firefox and/or its sub processes are started, and you may be able to allow/trust at that time. Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firewalls this].

  • Firefox keeps loading cached site

Firefox keeps loading a cached version of a website, specifically businessinsider.com. I have tried deleting my cache via tools>clear recent history>everything. And of course i did make sure all of the boxes were checked.
I also have deleted the cache at
    C:\Users\Syntax Attack\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\go9ce91m.default
both the offline cache and the regular, and yet it is still loading a page from much earlier. This is an intermittent issue and does not always happen, it is pretty much just this site it happens with anymore but has happened to a few others in the past, this has persisted even after upgrades.

  • Firefox doesnt load an image when *lots* of tabs are open

    Hi,
An old website I created has a problem displaying a very large background image when *loads* of tabs are open (which makes me think its something to do with memory).
An example page of the site in question is:
    http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/about-us
The white background image (which is super large for reasons not to discuss now) will show fine when, say, up to 10 tabs are open. However, if you have loads and loads of tabs open, this image doesn't display/render (even though firebug says it has).
    Some info about the image:
    http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/sites/all/themes/southbank-centre/images/template-3-col.png
    79.6kb
    940px by 23000px (super huge I know)
The problem is when it doesnt load, the copy is hard to read (as you can imagine).
This doesnt seem unique to my computer. It happens to other peoples firefox browsers (and they have slightly different versions and different plug-ins).

I'm not having any problems on that page with over 80 tabs open and the number of tabs shouldn't matter.
Did you check if you can reproduce it with a clean new profile without extensions?

  • I don't want firefox to reopen old windows when it restarts

On the rare occasions when Firefox crashes and I restart it I often end up getting the same problem that led to the initial crash because Firefox tries to restore all the windows from the previous session. I looked in the preferences but couldn't find a way to change this behavior. I don't want it to try and re-open old windows when it restarts, just go to my home page and let me reopen windows manually. Can I set that somehow?

I am not a computer programmer and don't remember whatever I may have learned in DOS classes... When I open Firefox it goes DIRECTLY to a page that crashes my computer: originally I had to TURN OFF my computer to get out of it. NOW Mozilla Firefox goes directy to that page again, does not ask if I WANT to restore that session.
I am thinking I will just DELETE all of Firefox from the Program menu
and then reload if I get around to it

  • Cannot load old tabs

I have 60 tabs that I wish to open upon startup, but after updating firefox it will simply not load any of the websites. Tabs are opened, but they cannot connect. It simply gets stuck when trying to reach the websites. It worked just great before updating my firefox. If I open firefox with only one tab, I can surf freely, but I wish to open all at once upon startup, how can I fix this?
    Disabling plugins doesn't help

Does it help if you disable CCleaner for Firefox?
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
