Firefox keeps locking/freezing up

FireFox 4.0.1 keeps locking up on all web pages: CNN,BBC,NYT,Washington Post,LA Times C-Net, hulu plus many more to mention.
I have tried disabling some or all of the add ons/plug ins
I have uninstalled and reinstalled it no fix.
Checked and updated all plug ins add ons adobe flash ect….
No fix. After it locks up I have to force quit then I get this:
Well, this is embarrassing.

  • Firefox keeps mini-freezing

Firefox keeps mini-freezing, or locking up or something. Its not really frozen, because if a video's playing at the time it'll keep playing like normal, but other than that its effectively frozen. I can't press any links, I can't use the browser buttons, I can't scroll, I can't type, and I can't even minimize the window. Opening up a random file from my desktop seems to make the problem go away (at which point everything I tried to do while it was frozen will instantly happen all at once), but then it'll happen again in a couple of minutes.

  • Firefox keep lagging, freezing and crashing since update 4 when many tabs opened (3 windows, about 150-200 tabs total)

After upgrading to FF4 problems with flash plugin started, even gif animation keeps lagging. With so much tabs previous version could perfectly manage. I have a 4-core processor, so 64-bit version would be awesome

Because you still have problems with Firefox in safe mode, I think the problem
is with something in the computer. Check that everything is updated. Even
if you are sure it is.

  • Firefox keeps locking up. Whatever tab I'm in says "Connecting" with the circle rotating. Cannot switch tabs, close tabs or close Firefox. Must kill with taskmg

Problem looking likely to be malware.
I have asked this question before. I thought it was tied to the website of my local newspaper since that seemed to be where it happened all the time. Tonight I was not on that site. I was in Tools>Add-ons, trying to switch from Plugins to Extensions when it locked up. Symptoms are the current tab will scroll up and down but no links work. No other tabs can be accessed. Tab cannot be closed. Tab shows "Connecting" with rotating busy icon. Firefox must be killed with the task manager. People have suggested deleting cookies and history - no effect unless I'm supposed to perform that action every few seconds in which case it's useless. Another suggestion was to deselect "Use hardware acceleration" in Tools>Options. Also no apparent effect. I thought it might be related to Flash because I was getting a lot of messages about a plugin container not working for that. I disabled Flash and got the "Video without flash" add-on (what a POS!) which doesn't appear to work at all. Any help would be appreciated. I'm getting tired of killing Firefox a dozen times (or more) per day and may have to investigate another browser (Ugh!).

After posting this question I went back to what I had long thought to be the problem website ( www.denverpost.com ) and was looking at the comics when it locked up again. HELP!

  • Firefox keeps hanging/freezes

I've had Firefox for quite some time but then it started hanging, almost like it froze, the moment i accessed a webpage (note: it doesn't matter what page i access/close there is no change). now, I've tried looking around for solutions, and I've followed many of them without success.
    I've:
    *restarted the browser
    *run it in compatibility mode
    *disabled add-ons/extensions (sometimes both)
    *run it in safe mode
    *closed websites
    *disabled hardware acceleration
    *re-installation and clean re-installation
    nothing works
the only thing that seems to actually work is disabling java script, would really help a lot if i got some help fixing this problem.

ok, now i've tried creating a new profile, uninstalled firefox and removed the program folder and installed it again, did the same thing again except this time to the 32 bit folder, nothing seemed to work.

  • Firefox keeps freezing unexpectedly, and I cannot find a cause or solution.

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/792922''
While using Firefox 4.0 RC, on Vista Business platform, the program keeps unexpectedly freezing. It usually does so while loading a page, but it is never the same page, and it will even freeze while in Panorama. When the program starts acting up it just keeps cycling, like its waiting for a connection or something, until I click on the window, in which case the top bar says Firefox is not responding. The thing is not generating crash reports. Whenever I tell the frozen window to close, I just get asked if I want to close the program or wait for it to respond, which it never does.

Hi, I have this same problem, started with the last version of Mozilla FF, and I downloaded 4.0 as the help suggest this would solve the problem in fact it has got worse, so much so as that I dont use M F now but have moved to chrome, which means if it dont get fixed fast I will get used toanother browser and thats it
    thanks

  • Firefox keeps freezing with new tab even in safe mode

Firefox keeps freezing, so there's no chance of even a crash report, I can only get out via TaskManager/End process. I usually have dict and thesaurus open while writing, usually with second tab my browser is a still.
It's very annoying as it's also stuck on my screen for a while so I can't continue to work.
I really need that to work or I have to switch to a different browser!
    Thank you.
Here are crash reports while I still got there:

  • Firefox keeps freezing on startup, does not quit even from task manager but after 5-6 minutes.

Firefox keeps freezing at start up. Unfreezes after 5-6 minutes works for a while and then does the same till total crash.
Have tried everything. Uninstalled firefox and deleted all profiles from everywhere ( roaming and local in Appdata)
Disabled add ons , started in safe mode , with new profile.
Windows 7 64 ultimate, fully updated, Adobe also fully updated, all fully updated. Though I have noticed it does not recognize the Adobe flash 16 and says Adobe flash15 as an add on. Nowhere the adobe 15 exists though since it's entries also erased from the registry as well.
GHistory and cookies where cleaned multiple times. Checked for malaware but everything is clean. Started PC in safe mode and again the same crashing problem with firefox.
No other browser has problem. IceDragon also no problem and works fine.Neither the Chrome type browsers have any problem.
any help excluding to eraze my Windows and reinstall all the programs again. Not possible to take this risk for just a browser.
    Thank in advance.

  • Firefox 4.0 keeps locking up and is slow to load pages

I just installed 4.0 this morning. Ever since, Hotmail is extremely slow to load, it keeps locking up or not responding.
I thought this was supposed to be faster and more streamlined?
Now, when I try to go back and install 3.6.13 it is no longer available. What gives? I want my old Firefox back.

  • Firefox keeps freezing in office, but not in other public/home network

Firefox keeps freezing starting from yesterday in my office wireless network. When it is opened, the browser screen does not show up, I have to right click on the icon in order to have the screen brought up. Search bar and tab functions respond real slow. However, everything works perfectly fine in public and my home network.
I'd really appreciate your input and help.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Firefox keeps freezing and using 50% cpu and memory usage shoots up most of the time it's when there's an auto update of anything addon, plugin or ff!

Firefox keeps freezing and using 50% cpu and memory usage shoots up real fast and carries on going till it uses up all there is left. Most of the time it's when there's an auto update of anything addon, plugin or ff but not just neccessarily then! I find out it's happened when there's been an update after i restart and an extra webpage comes up with the particular addon/plugin/ff update. I have to restart most of time because nothing sorts it out. I'm using windows xp with the latest update of ff 13.0.1 it's not this version because it's been happening for a while. And it never started when i added a particular addon or plugin or when i added a new app to my pc either. Any idea as to what this may be or how i'd sort it out?
    Cheers

Maybe disable hardware acceleration? This article should help: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram

  • FireFox keeps on crashing & freezing everytime I am in the middle of viewing a site content. It drives me nut!

FireFox keeps on crashing & freezing when I am in the middle of viewing content on a certain site like http://affiliate-resources.info for information to use, it drives me nut!
I love using FireFox as my default browser, but lately, with it always & constantly updating itself to new version that, I don't see any improvement, but only bring headaches and pissed me off especially in the middle of checking out something online and all of a sudden, everything just freezes, and the only way for me to continue was to run my CTRL+alt+DELETE button to stop the running of FireFox because it is not responding.
This really sucks. I have been using FireFox as my default browser for years, and I do think that it's the best browser in the world, but man, I sure wish the people at mozilla.org would stop updating FireFox to become a non-working-browser. I just don't see it got any better, but only got worser!
The best FireFox version, to me, was FireFox 3.6 version. I loved using it, but it's not available anymore.
Is there a way I can continue to use FireFox 3.6?
    Thanks.

It is possible to install and run Firefox 3.6, but it is not advisable as it is out of date and not secure. If you are doing webdesign you will presumably mainly wish to test the latest versions of Firefox rather than an insecure version that is used but only a very small minority of users.

    Hello Deb,
Something fishy going on with those particular files. But without looking at them directly I couldn't say what. Usually in a case like this the problem is some of the metadata that is attached to the file. Where did these files come from? A camera, a scanner, the internet?
An explanation about the Watched Folder function: It looks for changes to a folder, not just automatically grabbing whatever files are in it. Generally, you want to select an empty folder as a Watch Folder. Once this has been set up, as you add files to this folder they will be imported into the Organizer. If you start with a folder full of images, those will be ignored, any new items will be added.
