Firefox keeps opening up a new window with "index of file///c /program files/mozila firefox" as I'm browsing, how do I stop this?

every time I open firefox after about 2 minutes a new window pops up with 2 tabs, one saying problem loading page, the other shows a list of program files, thier size and when the were last modified. When I close it, it pops back up again in a few minutes.

If you get a program called malware bytes it blocks that window from popping up. Hope that helps :)

Hmm that does sound a bit strange - I use a system quite similar to yours (XP, FF 3.6.3), and don't see this behaviour.
I would recommend trying to start Firefox in Firefox [[Safe Mode]] (make sure you close '''all''' running Firefox instances first), and see if this problem persists.
If not, it could be some add-on causing this behaviour - restart Firefox in Safe Mode, disable all add-ons, and enable them one by one to find the guilty one.
If it still happens in Firefox Safe Mode, some other program (or something in Windows itself) most likely is the cause. We may be able to help with this too, so let us know what works and provide as much additional information as possible to let us help you solve this.

Firefox keeps opening things in new windows

Every time I click to open something in a new tab, it opens in a new window instead. I checked to see if I'd accidentally changed my options to make things open in new windows instead of tabs, but I hadn't. Also, every time I start Firefox, three windows pop up instead of just one. They seem like little things, but it's really irritating.

You might want to take a look at [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]. It seems to be spot on for the issue you are describing.
You might also want to try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.

Every time I click on a link to open it in a new window, the new window is tiny and I have to resize it every time, does anyone know how I can stop it opening new windows so small?

I am using firefox 8.0.1 this only happens when I click a link that is automatically set to open in a new window, or when I choose to open a link in a new window. Firefox never remembers what I resize that window too.

Firefox 9.0 keeps downloading automatically, even though I unchecked the automatic update box. I don't want 9.0. How do I stop this?

I cannot use FF 9.0 on my work computer--it cannot connect to any site. FF 8.0 works great, and I want to keep it. But no matter how many times I uninstall 9.0 and re-install 8.0--UNchecking the box for automatic updated--9.0 keeps re-installing automatically after a day or two. How do I stop this?

Sorry, Swanarva, It didn't work as it was supposed to. I downloaded, saved file, clicked the download to open, clicked 'run' then got an error message that it couldn't find the file(!) . No idea what happened or why. Should I have uninstalled Firefox first, then downloaded Firefox 8 using another browser or downloaded, uninstalled Firefox 09 beta then tried installing Firefox 8?
At this rate, IE is looking good, despite its shortcomings.

In some instances, a new browser opens with my homepage when typing in certain websites. I didn't have this problem before upgrading to 7. I hate this.

That are probably JavaScript window.open() calls that specify window dimensions.
You can divert those to a new tab.

Safari keeps opening links in new window instead of current

Hi
I have an iMac, everytime I click on a web link in Safari it opens it in a new window instead of the current window. So after a few minutes internet browsing I have loads & loads of windows open!!!
I have the Safari preferences set to open in 'Same Page', but no joy.
Can you help?

The Safari Preference Tab panel pertains in part to opening links from outside of Safari, e.g. Mail, or for using a command key to create a new tab. Within Safari, if a link is coded to open another window, it will do just that unless a command key is used, regardless of what's selected in the Tab panel.
With that said, for complete control over tabs, install 3rd party add-on Glims. Once installed, you'll find Glims' preferences as a separate panel within Safari Preferences (you may have to click on the directional arrows at the end of the Preference Panels to access it). In the Tabs misc panel, select "open link in a new tab". That will accomplish what you want, i.e. opening a new tab when a link within Safari is coded to open a new window.
You'll also find a number of very useful features in the other Glims sub-preference panel enhancing Safari usefulness.

Transfer_State (open report in new window) with a PreQuery

As part of the standard template that we deliver to end users, one of the buttons in the toolbar is a button that allows the user to open the report in a new window. This means they can view the report without all the additional information that portal adds, which is quite useful for large reports.
However, what I have found is one of our templates is not opening correctly, as the variable selection screen appears when the report is transferred to the new window (using TRANSFER_STATE command). For all the other templates, the filter values are remembered, so whatever values were entered on the selection screen, and whatever navigation was performed is transferred to the new window.
The only difference I can see between the templates that work and the one that doesn't, is that the "error" one has a query which in turn has a pre-query.
Is this a SAP bug, or standard behaviour, or something that we can get around?

Hi Andrew,
We too had this issue when using transfer state. All filter values where we used an exit would reset. SAP said this was standard behaviour. We ended up having to re-design and create all out templates!

Open iView in new window with no IE nav

Using EP6 SP2:
From the third level navigation, I need to open an iView in a new window. The trick is that I need the new window to not have the standard IE navigation buttons. Basically, window.open("http://my.url.com","toolbar=no").
I cannot figure out how to do this within the standard navigational structure. The url that I am linking to is outside of the portal, but it is using an SSO logon ticket to authenticate.

Write a html page that opens the url like you want it.
Put this html on a km folder and make a km-document iview to it.

I just thought of a better way:
just make an iview to the website and put your options ( fullscreen=yes) in the propertie Window Features

Every time I open Firefox I get a new page with an ad for Walmart I can't seem to stop it from happening. It doesn't do this with any of my other browsers, however I prefer Firefox.. can you suggest how I can stop this from happening.

I have to close this "other page" before I can use Firefox
It's annoying and is preventing me from using Firefox as my regular browser which I would prefer to do.

Every time when i open or go to a page/tab firefox wants to download everything how do i stop this from happening...?

don't know what or how but anytime i open ff or open a new tab or link ff wants to automatically download tabs, pages, or links, anything...how or what do i do to stop this...it's only ff cuz i opened ie and it's not doing what ff does when doing the same...

[Nightly] Why bookmarks keep opening in a new window (library)?

In the past, when I clicked "Display your bookmarks" a 1/4 screen size window (not the library) used to appear with all my bookmarks.
Now, however, when I click the same button, a window named "Library" is displayed with the bookmarks.
Is that changeable? Any option to return to the old way they appeared?

Sorry, but the sidebar is not what I were looking for. What I want is that little ''window'' showed when you pressed "Display your bookmarks", just as it happens when you press "Customize and Control Nightly".

Firefox opens a dialog box when I use the browser, "Checking add-ons for compatibility..." then open the Firefox start page along with my homepage. I do not want the Firefox page when I open the browser. how do I stop this?

Since Firefox updated it checks add-ons every time I open Firefox. The Firefox homepage then opens along with my home page, two tabs. I want the checking to stop. This has not happened before--only with this update.
