Firefox keeps remebering history after setting "Never Remember History"

I have Firefox 24.0. I have always had my privacy set at never remember history and until about a month ago it worked fine. Now when I clear my cache with Ccleaner there is always 100-200mb of storage in the firefox temporary internet cache. Why is it no longer deleting these upon exit as it use to?

Cache and History are not the same things. They are also stored in different files in Firefox.
'''''What is the Internet Cache?''''' This is where Web pages and files (such as graphics) are stored as you view them. This speeds up the display of pages you frequently visit or have already seen, because it is faster to open them from your hard disk than from the Web. The downside of this is that it takes up space on your hard disk, and it can sometime cause problems in loading a page that you have visited many times before.
'''''What is the Internet History?'''''
Your Internet history is a record of all the sites you have visited. This option gives you the ability to see what sites you have visited. If you visited a site and don't know what the name of the site is, you can try to find it in your history. After a certain number of days, this history will be cleaned out.
To clear both automatically when closing Firefox, go to ''Options > Privacy'' set "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history", next, check "Clear history when Firefox closes", click "Setting" to the right of that and check off items you want to clear when Firefox closes. Be careful with what you select as the deleted items can not be recovered.

    Do you mean you have a Macbook Pro (laptop) versus a Mac Pro (desktop)?
    You can back up the MBP, restart using Command+R to boot into the Mavericks Recovery HD, erase the Mactintosh HD and Reinstall OS X. Then you can go through setup and configure it with your information and Apple ID. Mavericks should not prompt you for an Apple ID when it goes through the install since that OS is free.
    One thing you might want to consider is asking the previous owner to unregister the MBP from his Apple ID if he previously registered it. Then you can register it under your Apple ID.
    The previous owner should have wiped it clean and reinstalled the OS that came pre-installed before selling it.

  • In the options settings, try to set never remember history but doesn't set

    reverts to custom settings for history

    Firefox shows "(Never) Remember history" if the history and cookie setting are the default.<br />
    Make at least one change to the default setting if you want "Use custom settings for history" to stay selected.<br />
    Otherwise Firefox will revert to "(Never) Remember history" if you return to the Privacy tab.<br />
    The choice "Use custom settings for history" will stay selected as long as not all settings are the default to make you aware that you made changes.
    If you select "Never Remember history" then you enter Private Browsing mode and "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session" will be selected.

  • After selecting "Never remember history," and "OK," re-opening options reveals it has reverted to "Use custom settings for history."

    Problem occurs with all add-ons disabled, and in safe mode.

    Thank you cor-el for your reply. To clarify for any other followers of this post: I found that if I first selected "Remember history" (apparently synonymous with "Default settings") and "OK," then reopened the Options pane and selected "Never remember history," it would stay selected. This seems like a bug to me however, since there is already a selection for single-session Private Browsing in the "Tools" pull-down menu, and it is simply not intuitive that a setting once selected would revert to any other setting simply because you re-opened "Options." This will result in many users who are not paying close attention using settings which they do not intend to use regarding their privacy. This is the sort of thing I expect from Microsoft or Adobe, but not from Mozilla.

  • Firefox keeps forgetting the Zoom setting per page...

    Hi!
    While surfing the archives of the Dilbert cartoons, I have to zoom in on the sunday cartoon otherwise it is too small. But Firefox 4 keeps forgetting the zoom setting.
    Everytime I click the next cartoon or even refresh the page the setting is back to standard. This behavior is similar on all websites, e.g. google.
    Any suggestion? Thanks in advance! wohlgetan

  • Why does Firefox keep asking me to set up my Sync account when I've already done it TWICE?

    Seems every time I restart my computer and open firefox, it forgets that I have already set up my sync account. Under Options/Sync is says "set up firefox sync." I have done it 2 times now and the browser still "forgets." Any idea what's wrong?
    I'm using Firefox 4 and an iPhone 4 with the app. I successfully synced 2 times with my iphone and then firefox proceeds to act like I never did. Very buggy!

    Hi Sigmo,
    You can turn those messages off, no problem.
    # In Firefox on your tablet, go to '''about:config'''
    # Use the search box at the top right to find '''browser.snippets.syncPromo.enabled''' and change it to '''false'''
    # Enjoy not being nagged about Sync any more. :)
    Hope that does the trick!

  • Firefox keeps opening window after window on it's own

    Very often, when I try to run my firefox to explore various websites, it will suddenly start jumping to a different site. If I hit the back button, it goes back to where I was, and immediately jumps forward again. If I close the browser, a new one opens up...sometimes three or four windows at a time. I am currently using a Windows 7 machine, but it also occurred on my Windows XP computer. This has happened on 2 machines, both connected and disconnected from my wireless network, and with differing softwares loaded on each. Therefore, I firmly believe it must be something wrong with the software itself.

    You may have a content type incorrectly set to "Use Firefox". This article should help - [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], start with the section "Change the action for a content type".

  • There's a malevolent spam site trying to take root on firefox. "California consumer survey". It inserted a "click OK" dialogue box, blocking passage (and mimicking firefox). I changed preferences to never remember history:got rid of it w/o engaging it.

    That was more of a comment but I suppose my Q is:
    Is there a way I can report or block this thing?

    Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • FIREFOX KEEPS STREAMING VIDEOS AFTER TABS OR FIREFOX ITSELF IS CLOSED-

    Hi...this bug has not been fixed and I guess will never be fixed by Firefox developers as they do not consider this a problem... let me give you an example and prove the opposite...
    ''''''HOW TO CRASH YOUR PC AND SPEND A MONTHLY DOWNLOAD LIMIT IF YOU ARE ON MOBILE BROADBAND EVEN WITHOUT NOTICING HOW DID THIS HAPPENEN? EASILY... JUST START USING FIREFOX!!! OH DON’T FORGET TO PAY YOUR CRAZY INTERNET BILLS FOR THE INFORMATION YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED FROM THE WEB EVEN WITHOUT NOTICING IT :)''''''
    Imagine if you are on mobile broadband...you pay for every megabyte you download or you have monthly limit like 10GB you can download per moth...I guess most of the mobile broadband users know exactly what I’m talking about and think twice before downloading stuff from internet because you can easily spent your monthly download limit in a day...
    All you have to do is open Youtube for example and click on 20-50 video links... don’t worry...you don’t have to watch them all...just clink on video links and close all your tabs with videos started to stream...or just close Firefox…What will happen then…? Firefox will be streaming all videos you have opened and even thought Youtube video tabs or web browser itself will be closed Firefox will keep streaming all the videos you have opened... the only way to stop this is by rebooting your mobile modem or rooter...so in other words to stop that from happening you have to switch ON or OF your mobile device every time you didn’t liked a video or want to watch other video so Firefox will not crash your PC and so you don’t spend your monthly limit in one day...
    Man...this issue has been reported so many times and I ‘’really like’’ when Firefox developers spend their time and effort on such silly things like skins and all sort of silly features but do not consider this issues as an issue and keeps focusing on more important ''things'' … I have reported this issue on Bugzilla years ago but still it hasn’t been fixed…man…I love Firefox and running upstairs every time when I decide I don’t want this video to be streaming so I can switch ON or OFF my mobile broadband modem…

    Try safe mode http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

  • Why does Firefox keep grabbing more memory and never releasing it until you have to restart it?

    Firefox starts out taking up a relatively small amount of memory, but with use it takes more memory (1,000K) which is never released even when tabs are closed. I run Firefox on a Pentium HT system, 4GB RAM, Win XP Prof and on a Core i3 system, 4GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and see the same behavior on both systems. Is anyone working on a fix for this? I did not include the troubleshooting info because it made the question too long to post.

    The problem is not in restarting, the problem is that Firefox (8.0.1 in my case) starts out grabbing about 300,000 K according to the task manager and keeps on gobbling up memory until it gets up over 1,000,000 K at which point it usually crashes. The point at which it crashes is usually between 1,000,000 K and 1,500,000 K. It also grabs an enormous number of processor cycles from time to time; enough processor cycles and memory that Norton 360 posts an alert.

  • Firefox keeps crashing even after trying the suggestions in your helpful articles.

    I get this error message: Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    Firefox crashes within a few minutes of being on Internet. Most Web pages crash. I need to open multiple tabs to work, and it always crashes soon after I start to work. This began after updating to 4. I replaced 4 with the older version, but the problem keeps happening. This is part of the crash message I get, but it's crashed several times & reports aren't exactly the same. I also disabled Silverlight plugin, another recommended solution. That didn't work either.

  • Firefox keeps not responding after re-install

    I just got this computer last Tuesday, and I immediately installed Firefox. It worked perfectly, as it should, with no problems or crashes whatsoever. But, I ended up installing an extension I don't normally use because I wanted to check out how the features worked, and it messed up Firefox a bit... the new tab button was all the way on the right, tiny and kind of broken from the rest of the tab bar. It also installed a "search tabs" thing on the left that, even after uninstalling the add-on, remained there, which was very annoying and also broken/not level with the tab bar.
    This caused me to uninstall and reinstall Firefox so it would look like it's supposed to. But after reinstalling it, every so often Firefox freezes and says not responding for a couple of seconds. Sometimes it happens every hour, every 20 minutes, or even goes a whole day without it happening. But, it still happens. And also, when I went to update the Adobe Reader web plugin, Firefox froze to the point where I couldn't do anything... the "not responding" thing didn't occur, but it's like when I tried clicking on a tab my computer would ding and not do anything. I don't know what caused this but I know sometimes it happens when it wants you to confirm something or accept security access or something, but there was absolutely no reason to do this.
    How come Firefox worked perfectly the day I got it, but after reinstalling it the next day because of an error on my part, it acts as if this is the crappiest computer in the world that freezes because of overload?

    As mentioned above, look in your Firefox add-ons to see if the bogus XULRunner 1.9.1 add-on has been installed.
    '''Here's how I went about permanently removing it:'''
    * Go to the URL 'about:support'.
    * Note the ID of XULRunner.
    * Close Firefox.
    * Search for the corresponding registry entry. You should find the value under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\{<add-on ID here>} .
    * Note the path in the registry key value.
    * Delete the registry entry.
    * Go to the path that you just noted. It should read something like:C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\<add-on ID here>
    * Delete that folder.
    '''Some extra precautionary housekeeping, if you like:'''
    * Within the file C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o0bi5lzk.default\extensions.rdf
    * ...locate the RDF:Description block that contains the add-on ID. Note the RDF:resource value.
    * Now delete the entire RDF block.
    * Do the same with the corresponding RDF:Seq RDF block.
    * Search for the RDF:Description block that contains the RDF:resource value noted above. Delete that block.
    '''Test Firefox:'''
    * Reopen Firefox.
    * Check your add-ons to be sure that the XULRunner entry no longer exists.
    * Search Google and ensure that searching for a popular term, such as 'antivirus' not longer redirects you via google.ad.sgdoubleclick.net. As a bonus, you should also find that that Google Instant Search has returned to operation.

  • Any advice, Firefox keeps crashing, even after running it in safe mode, re-installing, and resetting it.

    Firefox have been constantly crashing for the past month or so. I have already followed all the advice. I ran the sessions in safe mode and it did not crash, so it is not my add-ons. I have re-installed Firefox and also reset all the setting. Nothing helps. Firefox is my favorite browser, but if this is not fixed I will have to move to another browser.
