Firefox keeps trying to be window on top

Often firefox tries to overide the current on top application window covering the current window open making it impossible to read.
Each time I have to click on the applications tab to get it to display on top again.
It is incredibly annoying as it covers not only other open windows but message boxes and save boxes.
It happens often enough that if I am doing anything serious I close firefox.

I have this myself. I don't know the cause.

  • I have Wildblue email, igoogle start page is beeing removed, now I can't get to my mail, firefox keeps trying to go to igoogle start page, Help Please.

    A new Windows 8 opp.system. It has Google all through it, I don't like google, but google is who Wildblue uses for mail. Right from the start I tried to set some short cuts to get to mail, but the google stuff already in there would intersept my efforts, so I would have to type in wildblue and thenI would get there and I'm guessing, that Firefox started automatically do the rest. Now that the igoogle start page has gone away, they are fasing it out, it is suppose to go right to my mail, instead it keeps trying to go to igoogle start page, over & over & over & ......
    I see now that my other tab shows that it finally got to my mail. Will this be the norm, or will it self correct?

    When you start typing in the address bar, Firefox may suggest your most frequently used site address, and show other frequently/recently used sites in a drop-down list. To get Firefox to stop suggesting a particular site, try using the down arrow key on the keyboard to go down and select it, then press the Delete key, then arrow up or down to the site you really want to clear that unwanted address from the address bar.
    If you haven't already, you might want to create a bookmark for your new mail site. Not only does this provide one-click access (or two-click, if you use the menu rather than the Bookmarks Toolbar), but it helps speed access when you start typing in the address bar.

    With respect to iGoogle, it's possible that going to this page is a Google setting. Two things to check:
    (1) While you are logged in to your Google account, check whether you've somehow specified you want iGoogle instead of the main Google page or Gmail.
    (2) Remove your Google cookies. This will clear out preferences related to Google that are stored on your computer (separate from the ones stored in your account). You can do that as follows:
    First, save any pending work such as draft messages or Google Docs documents you're editing. While viewing a page on Google, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
    Hopefully now Google will forget your previous interest in iGoogle.

Everytime I reboot my PC and fireup FF again it works ok for the first 5 mins but then it happens again! All my other browsers with the exception of Chrome works perfectly fine! I have just made a new clean install of FF with a new Profile and i just reinstalled my bookmarks on to it but again it still keeps hanging and trying to load the webpages again! • Keep Quick Time Player window on top

    Hi,
    Is there a way to keep the QT player windown on top of all other windows open on my computer so that I can watch it while working or surfing the Internet?
    Right now every time I click anywhere on the document I am reading or working on the QT window hides.
    Thank you
    Cindy

    It's not something I've actually tried myself, Cindy, but perhaps a utility like SemTop might do the trick for you:
    http://www.semargl.com/products/semtop/
    (They've got a free trial version available. There might be true freeware utilities out there too for this sort of thing.)

  • Mac Mini Keeps Trying To Install Windows on Startup

    I just got my Mac Mini in today, and I am very frustrated. I tried to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp, I created the partition and inserted the Windows 7 disc but when I tried to install it Windows 7 said it was not the correct format to install it on. So I just shut down the Mac Mini by pressing the power button on the back and now whenever I try to start it up it goes directly into trying to install Windows, is there any fix to this?
    I think if I could just get the disc out it would help but I'm not sure as this is my first Mac.

    Probably ALT (but YMMV!)
    BTW:
    So I just shut down the Mac Mini by pressing the power button on the back
    Probably best NOT to do this in future. Shut it down using the Apple Menu/Shut Down.

    Hi yhbe!
    Insert an javascript in this HTML document like this:
    <script>
    function autoCenter(){
         if (navigator.appName.indexOf("Microsoft") >= 0)
              self.moveTo((screen.availWidth-document.body.offsetWidth)>>1, (screen.availHeight-document.body.offsetHeight)>>1);
         else
              self.moveTo((screen.availWidth-window.innerWidth)>>1, (screen.availHeight-window.innerHeight)>>1);
    window.onload = autoCenter;
    </script>
    It causes the document to center and be topmost!
    Best regards.

    Opening in the Sidebar is the default action for bookmarks that are created via a "Bookmark this Page" link or button on a website. Make sure you use the many "Bookmark this Page" methods that are in Firefox instead.
    Right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''', and then click Save.

  • Firefox keeps trying to download setup 6.0 even though it is running.

    I've just tried to upgrade to Firefox 6.0, which I thought I did successfully. Including updating to version 6.0.1 (as reported by Help/About). But now, every time I open Firefox I get a dialog box that asks, "You have chosen to open Firefox Setup 6.0 exe... Would you like to save this file?" If I click on "Save File," the machine starts to download a file that I have already downloaded and installed. If I click on "Cancel," the box goes away and Firefox 6.0.1 works just fine. What did I do wrong and how do I get my system to stop asking me to download and install a file I already have installed and working?

    Do a clean (re)install and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • Firefox keeps trying to open a php via Opera but...

    I have Firefox 3.6.11 on my Macbook using OSX 10.5.8 Leopard. I try to open a php file and it tries to open via Opera (?). I would like to use Preview or Quicktime as the default but it won't let me change and save in preferences. Ugh

    Also make sure that you do not have the home page set to a site that starts a download automatically.

  • Firefox keeps trying to update me to 4.0.1 even though I have already updated it.

    According to the Help menu, I have Firefox 4.0.1 installed, but I get at least one notice a day that I need to update to 4.0.1
    I believe Firefox was doing the same thing with version 3.6, but I can't remember what the fix was, and couldn't find the answer by searching the forum.
    OS: Windows XP sp3
    Browser/Version: Firefox 4.0.1

    If you did an A&I, did you transfer things from the Previous System folder and then delete it? If not, try doing that.

  • Firefox keeps trying to get me to upgrade to 5.0 but when I had that before I couldn't get the google toolbar and I need it.

    I need google toolbar but 5.0 won't let me have it. Please quit reminding me to upgrad to it until it is compatible.

    You can turn off update checking Tools > Options > Advanced > Update
    but Firefox 4.0 is no longer supported, so you should update to 5.0
    '''The Google Toolbar is no longer supported by Google in Firefox 5 and up''', you may be able to get what you want from it for a limited time, the directions to install the Google Toolbar were posted before Google actually announced dropping support.

  • It keeps trying to update Firefox altough it just continually sits on download and never actually finishes and I keep having to shut it down each time??? why could this be?

    Hello Chris,
    Thank you for your suggestion. I downloaded and ran all 3 of the scans from Malwarebytes; and although it did find and I did delete items from my computer, (so it was still helpful) it did not fix the problem I'm having with Flash.
    I have run malware, spyware and anti-virus scans. I've cleared my cache's and checked for anything in my programs as well as checked my Applications list in Firefox.
    I'm completely at a loss for what to do!
    Thank you anyhow,
    Lauren.

  • Firefox keep asking to open or save pdf files which are already in my disk.

    Hi all,
    Firefox build in function to open pdf files was working ok.
    Lately when i try to open a .PDF file which is already in my disk i get a window asking me :
    "What should firefox do with this file?
    -Open with (firefox default)
    -Save the file"
    Since the .PDF is already in my disk , i want to open it but firefox keeps asking in that window so i have to cancel and a new blank tab stays there.
    What should i do to open the .PDF file?
    BTW,i tried to delete the mimetypes.rdf file as read on a message here in order to Reset download actions but in vain.
    Thank you for your time reading this.
    Regards,
    the_observer.

    Hi cor-el,
    I used your suggestions and i have the below results:
    1.
    "''You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications''"
    This is not satisfactory because i don't want to use it.I just want the internal viewer for PDF's of Firefox.
    2.
    ''"You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the about:config page to disable the build-in PDF viewer."''
    I set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true and after firefox restart it kept opening empty tabs (weird)
    3.
    ''"You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu."''
    I did that and just keeps me asking in new tabs what to do with pdf (open or save)
    Then i thought maybe another addon conflicted with firefox PDF viewer so i started it in safe mode.Tried to open a pdf and started to open empty tabs...
    Finally i installed [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/pdfjs/ this] addon and pdf open ok now.
    Still i had to use an addon to make them open.
    It was running correctly with out add on.
    Is there something else to try since i dont want addon?
    Firefox pdf internal viewer was very satisfactory for me...
    Thank you for your time reading this.
    Regards,

  • Error: ' The Update could not be installed (patch apply failed)' . It keeps trying to install this patch but my version is the latest one!!

    I have the latest version of firefox. I know this because your website says so. But for some reason, my current firefox keeps trying to install a new version by "trying" to install a patch. But it fails every time.
    I cant say exactly when this started. A few weeks ago, firefox was behaving erratically (crashing for no reason at every launch due to some video plugin fail) but i uninstalled and reinstalled (a few times) and it was fine after the last one.

    If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
    You can also delete the active-update.xml file.
