Firefox keeps wanting to start in Safe Mode and it says I can make some changes permanent such as "Disable all add-ons" and others. When I select one of the options I can then "Make Changes and Restart".

When I make my selection it can then proceed to use Firefox. However the next time I open Firefox I get the same problem.
I'm using Windows 7. I have used Firefox for many years with Windows XP and never had this problem. Is there a solution?

See Firefox is stuck in Safe Mode
"Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the Safe mode start window.
Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button (in Firefox 4: right-click the extension -> "Find Updates") to do a compatibility check.

• After updating Firefox, it wants to start in safe mode, when you click reset & restart it starts and runs fine, how do I make it stop opening in safe mode?

I recently updated my Firefox to 3.5.9 for Google pack, after doing so Firefox would only open in safe mode. So I started in safe mode that one time. Everafter, when starting firefox it always opens a dialog window about safe mode, I click the option to reset the toolbars and restart, and it starts normally. I'd like to make it stop opening with this dialog, and just open normally without asking about safe mode.

Your Firefox 3.5.9 is 2 versions behind. The current version is Firefox 3.5.11 which includes several security updates. In addition, support and updates for the Firefox 3.5.x series is planned to end in August 2010. Consider upgrading to the latest version Firefox 3.6.8:

• Firefox 3.6.13 keeps starting up in Safe Mode, offering options to get out of Safe Mode, such as Disable all add-ons, restore default search engines.

Other options it offers: Reset toolbars and controls, Delete all bookmarks except for backups, and Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults.
My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, version 6.1.
This is a new computer, came with IE 8, but I don't think I used it much before downloading and making Firefox my default browser. I made some changes in the default home page, added some bookmarks, added Firefox's suggested Add-ons, updated them, and am running AVG freeware version 10.0.1191.
Please help me get Firefox to run in normal mode.

I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

• Firefox always prompts to start in safe mode.

Whenever I start Firefox, it shows a prompt that asks me if I want to continue in safe mode or to quit. It also shows me options like "Reset all user preferences" or "Disable all add-ons" that once checked, will allow me to press the "Make changes and continue" button.
My Firefox version and all my plugins/addons are up-to-date.
Here's what I've done so far:
1. I've already disabled all my plugins and add ons, then quit Firefox. When I open Firefox again, it still shows me the safe mode prompt.
2. I restarted my computer and ran Firefox, same deal.
3. I tried resetting my user preferences as a checkbox option in the prompt, then quit and reopen Firefox, same result.
4. I reinstalled Firefox by downloading the latest version (which I already have). The safe mode prompt still persists.
Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion), Firefox 10.0.2

I solved it. I've previously set my Quicksilver app to open Firefox with a trigger Option + Command + F. Holding the option key while opening Firefox will always show the Safe Mode prompt. I changed my trigger to Command + Shift + F, and now the safe mode prompt is gone :)

• I have disable all Add-ons - I've reinstalled FireFox 6 three time and it repeatedly locks up and slide shows fail to load. I have all of the proper Flash and Shockwave type Add-ons. I just can't resolve the problem.

I have tried disabling all Add-ons.
I've reinstalled FireFox 6 three time.
Slide show pics fail to load.
I have all of the proper Flash and Shockwave type Add-ons.
I just can't resolve the problem.
Yet my browser repeatedly locks up

Sending a solution that I have already tried is of no help, but I tried them all again, reloading works sometimes, I have seen in the past that others have had this problem also, of pages not completely loading. So I don't see how you can say I am the only one. When I first started using Firefox it worked great but now it doesn't, one of the updates caused this problem. I guess it's back to IE as it works fine now.

• The back button no longer works. I have disabled all add-ons, rebooted & reset the defaults for the browser and nothing has changed. This happens on all webpages. How do I get the back button to light up again?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

anybody can help me understand if the Ipads becomes ready to be used in all world regions with 3G and or 4G infrastructure? I mean, are all of them released or when I buy one in the US to be used in Argentina I need to ask for a released one, with add costs?

There are two versions of the current iPad, the WiFi only (which will work anywhere in the world, but only connect to WiFi networks) and the 3G/4G model. The latter will connect to 3G networks worldwide, as I understand it, but the only 4G networks it can connect to are in the US and Canada.

• Firefox crashes for 10 seconds when trying to download files, deleting downloads.sqlite, reinstalling firefox, disable all add-ons doesn't solve this problem. Help!

I am having this problem for weeks now.
What I tried:
- Defragmentation
- Reinstall Firefox on a different location
- Change download location
- Start Firefox in safe mode and try download
- Disable all add-ons and plug-ins
- Complete malware/spyware scan
- Complete virus scan
- Delete downloads.sqlite in the profile folder
- Uninstall firefox and delete the entire mozilla folder in Roaming location
- Disabling antivirus
Nothing helps! I'm only having this problem in Firefox. Downloading with Chrome for example doesn't give any problems.
How can I resolve this problem? I'm really desperate.
Thank you in advance!
Yanco

Thanks for your input but I already said that I deleted downloads.sqlite.

• I have disabled all add ons and extensions to stop adverts but everytime I log into my pc the adverts appear again? not happy :(

since I updated firefox I have been HOUNDED by adverts. I read an article that suggested disabling all add ons and extensions but they seem to enable themselves again after I open my pc! I am very careful and always tick and untick boxes when I am downloading updating anything to ensure this doesn't happen therefore these add ons seem to have been automatically added by firefox during the update. not cool! the amount of adverts and the fact I have never suffered from such a pop up invasion in my life is becoming EXTREMELY annoying how do i permanently stop these adverts?

• Firefox won't even start in safe mode.

I keep trying to start firefox. It keeps saying its not responding. It gives me options to start in safe mode or reset Firefox. But I've tried both of these options and nothing works.

First, download the full installer and save it somewhere.
Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems {web link}
Now, totally remove Firefox from your system. Your user profile is
stored in your user folder on the computer. Leave it alone for now.
Uninstall Firefox from your computer {web link}
After Firefox has been removed, reboot the computer.
Then try installing Firefox.

• HT3053 I have a 13inch MacBook Pro and when I switch it on the apple logo appears then a slot and the circular symbol which is turning and then before opening the home screen it switches off again. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to load.

I have got a 13 inch MacBook Pro and it got stuck in a loop so I switched it off by holding the power button down and now when I switch it on the apple logo appears then I get a blank slot at the bottom of the screen then the circle appears and rotates and then it switches off again, I have tried starting it again with the system disc that came with it when it was new but it makes no difference. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to start.

Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Hello Don.
You can access the add-on manager by going into Tools > Add-ons. It's the Extensions tab you want, most likely, since plugins and themes tend not to make popups appear.
If you want to disable the automatic update of add-ons, simply go into Tools > Options > Advanced > Updates and untick "Add-ons".

• I cannot open emails in Hotmail even though I have disabled all add-ons and plugins.

As of this morning, I cannot open any emails in Hotmail or open any folders therin. I have disabled all of my plugins and add-ons which has made no difference. To the best of my knowledge, no updates have been made to Firefox on my PC since yesterday.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
(2) Remove your live.com cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these:
* While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Try to disable the automatic restart to make it easier to check the cause or open the event viewer to check this.
*Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings : untick "Automatically restart"
*Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer
Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
*https://hacks.mozilla.org/2010/09/hardware-acceleration/
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
