Firefox lags too much when i download and close the current window, then try to open a new window. why?

ok, everytime i download something the download window pops up, so i let it download and i like to keep it open so i can monitor my downloads. now, the problem is when i close the current firefox browser window and try to re-open a new one. my firefox browser window starts lagging/hangs very bad when i open up a new browser window. i have my settings set up to clear my history everytime i close my firefox, so i was wondering why it does this? is it because my history gets cleared and i still have my download window opened?

Have a look at this post, see if it is of any help (though related to Vista, but same issue can be there with Window 7 also)

  • When I try to open a new window in Firefox, I get an error message

When I try to open a new window in Firefox, I get the following error message:
    "Not Found
The requested URL /en-US/firefox was not found on this server."
...but other websites, such as Google or CNN.com, work just fine.
I'm running Firefox 3.6.28 on my MacBook Pro, with OS 10.4.11. I can't update to the latest version of Firefox unless I update my OS, which would be costly and also involve increasing my RAM.
But the Firefox homepage worked fine until this morning. Is this likely to be a temporary glitch? If not, how can I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Emmy

At least at the moment, the default Firefox homepage is back! So maybe this was a momentary glitch. But see below.
BTW, here's the URL for the page:
    http://start.mozilla.org/en-US/?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
'''But, '''the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" currently lacks a menu bar at the top with various Google options such as "Gmail," "more," etc. I found these very useful.
I'm wondering -- did Google tell Mozilla to stop including those links on its start page? Maybe Google wants us all to switch to having Google as our default homepage. Or is the lack of a menu bar just another temporary glitch?

I am having problems when i have minimized windows and try to open a new window it will open all minimized windows along with the new window. It just changed when mozzilla updated. It did not do this before the update. Before the update if i had minimized windows they would stay minimized when i opened a new window. Please help ,I would guess it is just a setting somewhere but i cannot figure out where the setting is. Thanks jason

  • How can I read the next e-mail when I delete or close the current one

Is there a way to setup my preferences so that I can move to the next e-mail when I delete or close the current one?
I could do this in Thunderbird and I really miss that feature.
    Thanks,

    Hi all,
I am so sorry to be dense on this (I just switched from PC to Mac last week), but here's my question:
I like to read emails from the most recent to the least recent. In Outlook, you could set a preference for opening the preceding (older- going down directionally in Inbox) or following (newer- going up directionally in Inbox) email when you delete. It seems to only open "up" in Mail. Am I missing something?
    THANKS!

I'm right with you, Mariah. This is exactly my problem, too! Is there a way when viewing message (using the preview window) with the message list sorted in descending date order (most recent on top) and let's say you are view a message in the middle of the list, that when you delete that message the next oldest (further down on the list) message is what's previewed??
    Thanks!

  • How do I start Firefox 4 from KMenu when I downloaded and installed Firefox4.0.tar.bz2 (only launches from terminal), and 'apt-get' installs Firefox 3.6.15 even though I tried to "--purge" it from Linux?

I downloaded and installed Firefox 4 RC using tar.bz2 so that I could still use Firefox 3.6.15 as per normal, having to start Firefox 4 using the terminal which worked great (except for many videos on different websites). When Firefox 4 was released, I suppose I was in a hurry to get it to work normal from my menu, but it kept saying that 3.6.15 was the latest version (I'll be quite embarrassed if it wasn't available for Linux users - I do love Firefox!). I did something silly, like purge Firefox from my operating system (Kubuntu 10.10) and when I reinstalled it was still 3.6.15 (it wasn't really downloading, but unpacking). Am I in too much of a hurry or is there a fix-it? I can use Firefox 4, but only through the terminal and I suspect it is slower than it should be. I would like only one version now.

First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion.  To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4.  What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content.  Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems.  You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults.  A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install.  If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive.

  • Firefox uses too much memory, gets bloated, and won't respond.

For the past several versions of FF....I have posted here about it's 'behavior' under OS X.
The browser uses too much memory. After a short period of time, it becomes 'bloated', slow to respond, and requiring a 'force quit' to get out of it.
Being as I've posted about this before, for a previous version, and only received feedback from other Mac users experiencing the same thing, and not getting answers or help...I've stopped using it once more. It was a one day trial, and I didn't make it past 6 hours of use.

Since downloading and installing Yosemite 10.10 on my MacBook Air, using the Internet via Safari on my Hevanet server has become a rather useless effort due to unreasonable slowness and frequent Gmail crashes when I actually do manage to get through to the Internet.

I close a Firefox browser and at a later time want to open a new browser window but get message "Firefox is still running and I need to shut down before I can open a new session" I do not want to shut down as this is laborious - I can go into task manager and processes and click on Firefox and end session that way but this is not the solution. Firefox seems to be running in background but I cannot open a new session window without doing on of the above.

  • New Window Target doesn't open a new window in Contribute but does in Firefox

I have made the neccessary steps to allow a link to open in a
new window by choosing "New Window" as the Target, and when testing
the published page within the Contribute browser it does not seem
to work. So I went ahead and tested it in Firefox (and other
browsers as well) and it does work. Doesn't this seem strange?
Anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know why Contribute
works this way? Thanks in advance for your help.
    Todd Temple

I did a quick test by changing a link to open in a new
window. Within Contribute, when I click the link, a new IE window
opened. Can you provide a link to the page or the source code of
    the page?

  • Even when I download and install the new version of firefox, I get the messsage that I don't have the new version.

how do I know if I have the new version installed?

    Hi janeginsburg,
Looking at your system details, you are running the latest version. You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
    about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
    Hopefully this helps
