Firefox latest beta 25 keeps downloading 0byte files on OS X

Several times a day I run into the problem that when downloading a file with either FF 24 stable or FF 25 latest beta I receive the correct filename in my downloads folder but with 0bytes on OS X 10.8.5.
Not sure what to do about it. Troubleshooting info can't be attached since I'm reporting via WebKit. Firefox 25 doesn't allow me to click the "ask this" button.

Since I just ran into this yet again, I played with some of the much too many suggestions:
* changing download folder > does not resolve this, all that happens is, I now have 0byte files in a different location
* clear download history > does not help
* no download manager plugins installed here
* disabled all plugins and retried > no improvement
* switch browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone in about:config to false > no success
* switch browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone in about:config to true > no success
Now what?

    Hello Lisa.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Firefox won't run after downloading says "File is Corrupt:

I currently use IE and want to switch to Firefox. I click download and run and wait for download to finish.. It says the Fi;e Is corrrupt and ends after the download is complete I have saved the Exec and tried to start it from there with the same results.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

You may have to disable your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work or only the real-time (live) scanning of files.
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox 3.6.23 keeps downloading. It has done this for about 2 hours without stopping once I opened Firefox. Is it supposed to take this long from version 3.6.8?

Part of the testing I am doing requires that I know which version of Firefox I am using. I opened Help on the tool bar and above "About Mozilla Firefox" is "Downloading Firefox 3.6.23 until a few second ago. when I clicked on it . It finished.
    Sheesh!!

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml, if present, if the problem perssists.
    C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.

  • After installing Firefox UK Comodo security keeps scanning 2 files in omni.jar folder as Trojan downloader agents, do I ignore?

I have been using Property Bee as an add on for Right Move with previous version of Firefox. When it updated recently it kept showing alert warnings for trojans in temporary internet files. These were wiped and the whole system was scanned. Got rid of previous Firefox and downloaded v5. This not tested with Prop Bee but a forum said it would by installing 'nightly tester tools' and forcing compatibility - did this but now getting omni.jar message:TrojanDownloaderagent.~EWH@226922441 C:\ProgramFiles\MozillaFirefox\omni.jarlchrome/toolkit/content/global/cpow/child.html and.....content/global/plugins.html..........Is Comodo giving false alerts and should be ignored?

This might be a false positive. There have been some discussions about that detection on the Comodo forums. I can't read all the posts, but maybe you have time?

  • Once firefox 4 beta has been downloaded into my iMac, I couldn't open it, and worst, now I cannot even open neither the old firefox browser nor the new one, none!

I do have an iMac with a Mac OS X Version 10.4.11. Never have any problem before with Firefox browser. Now, I was willing to update the browser to the 4 Beta version. Good. Little did I know that once I finished with the whole downloading process, I was about to get caught into such a mess.
Bottom Line: How can I go back to my ORIGINAL Firefox browser without reading the spineless pop up window telling me yet again 'you cannot use this version of "Firefox" with this OS'. I am not a magician, I'm a regular man trying to stay current with the new versions. Had I known this mess beforehand I would have never bother to even tried the 'new 4 Beta', guys.

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

  • Adobe pdf files won't open while I'm online in FireFox even though I can download pdf files and then open them. It all freezes and tells me to check regedit. I have FireFox 5 and Acrobat 8, and I haven't found regedit, let alone know what to do with it..

If I click to open a pdf file when online with Firefox, the screen freezes and it tells me that the registry isn't updated and I should try regedit. About a month ago I had to wipe my computer clean and start all over again because of a virus that couldn't be cleaned out. I've since downloaded all necessary programs, Acrobat 8 one of them, but this message only appeared yesterday. Not sure why it worked up until now if it's the registry. But I don't know how to update it with regedit.

You need to get rid of all those duplicate files. Put these in the Trash:
    Adobe Reader 7.07 (all copies)
    AdbeRdr708enUS.dmg
This should leave you with one copy of Adobe Reader 7.08 in your Applications folder, with the correct Adobe icon.
Now run Disk Utility and choose Repair Permissions. When it's done, try double-clicking on the Adobe Reader icon and see if it starts normally. If not, make a note as to any error messages or unusual behavior and post again.

  • How do I get the Linux version of Firefox to allow me to download mp3 files instead of playing them in Firefox (the windoze solution doesn't work for Linux)?

I've tried to modify a couple of "media" settings in about:config, but it still plays mp3s instead of allowing me to save them. In applications, mp3 audio is set to "Always ask".

Did this behavior change after an update, or has it continued for several Firefox versions?
Is there a visible player? If so, can you right-click it and see whether you get a plugin menu or a standard Firefox context menu?
For some plugins, there is a separate configuration dialog to indicate which kinds of content they will handle (I recall QuickTime having such a dialog).

  • When downloading a file, how do I tell Firefox to not do a virus scan of files with specific extensions such a .gif files?

I'm using AVG Free as my anti-virus program and always use the latest version. I have set scanning options in AVG to skip the scanning of gif and jpg files but that seems to be ignored when I am downloading a very small file of either type. The "Downloads" (Ctrl J) pop-up window shows the progress of the download and scan. At times, the virus scan is so miserably slow for simple gif and jpg files that it is a while until I can once more move my mouse cursor.
By the way, I'm using version 3.6.17 Firefox and WIN 7 Premium.

Unfortunately, I continue to have the problem. Just to make sure, following your suggestion, I shut down Firefox then restarted it but had the same result. Similarly, I rebooted after making the changes but again, no difference. Ah well...
Just thought I'd attach this partial screen print to show that I am in Firefox and that I am downloading a file -- in this case, a daily Doonesbury gif file.
    Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • Issues with .pdf files and Firefox Android Beta

I read the local paper online and the individual pages present themselves as .pdf files. With the Firefox for Android NON beta clicking on said file downloadable ads it and automatically calls up the default .pdf reader which opens the page. Some recent change in the Beta version simply downloads the file. I then have to manually click to open. Tried clearing defaults on both Firefox and the Kindle app, force stopping both, all to no avail.....suggestions?
    Bob

the change was made in firefox 25 - that's why you're currently seeing this behaviour only in firefox beta. the general release for firefox 25 is scheduled for next week. <br>i originally also thought to recommend the pdf.js-addon as an alternative but i found it to be very slow on my android too. unfortunately i don't know of any other solution currently.
