Firefox Locks My MacBook Keyboard

I posted this comment in the following thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6056426#6056426
But I though maybe it would get more feedback in its own thread. Here is what I have found with the keyboard locking issue.
My wife had this issue on her MacBook. She would use it for a while and then suddenly the keyboard was dead. I then found that sometimes it was a hard numlock. If I turned numlock on, I got partial keyboard activity, sometimes being in all caps and no numeric keys would work. In other words, it was as if the numlock was set, even though it wasn't. Turning it on, actually turned it off. At any rate, I got suspicious since it seemed to always happen when she was using Firefox. I told her to switch to Safari, and since she has done that it has not happened again. It has been about a month now with no problems. I firmly believe this is a third party application issue, and Firefox seems to be the common denominator (at least for us). As I frequently tell people when they are testing my code, write down what you were doing/running when it froze (in this case the keyboard) and see what your common denominator is. Maybe you can post it to this list so we can get closer to a real resolution. Hope this helps everyone else.
I should clarify what I mean by third party software issue. I am not blaming bad third party software. I think it is very possible that all the software built by Apple on Leopard (or for Leopard using the expected compilers) will work just fine without causing this issue. I would even hazard a guess that third party apps built the same way would not cause the problem. But having an application built prior to Leopard with another compiler may be the problem. Perhaps Apple has not protected something correctly which is causing the problem. Maybe it is a compiler issue, or something in the Kernel that gets hit just so or in memory (now I am stretching). Maybe the fix will come in the form of locking something down that they missed. At any rate, I hope I clarified my opinion. For what it is worth.
Does anyone else notice this happening when Firefox is running? Or any other specific application?

firefox has serious leopard issues. i can't keep it running for more than 2 hours straight without it becoming unresponsive... i've not had the keyboard issues you've described... but, yeah. mozilla needs to get on top of the game!

• Firefox locks up and crashes when trying to print a PDF from a website?

I am using Firefox ver 3.6.13 Every time I try to print a PDF displayed on a web site Firefox locks up. If I have several tabs open all of them are locked. I have to use taskmanager to end the program and restart Firefox. To print the PDF's I have to save them then open them using Adobe reader and print that way.
I can vie the PDF within Firefox and all is good. It only locks up when I try to print. Printing any non pdf page I have no problem.

On my x64 Win 7 system, practically the whole system was frozen. After the "Print" button was pressed the dialog stating "Preparing" came up, but I had to use Cntrl+Shift+Esc to open task manager. Then I had to use keyboard arrows to select firefox.exe and Alt+E to end task and the space bar to confirm. Mouse would move, but not "click" anything. If I attempted to click anything, I had to Cntrl+Alt+Del to get to where I could "Log Off" and that forced firefox to quit.
I found my problem was an addon with improper settings. Internet Download Manager addon was loading with firefox, but in IDM's actual options, the check box to integrate IDM with Mozilla was NOT checked and the Advanced integration with browsers was also unchecked. I had been having issues with downloading from sites that do not allow 3rd party software to download, and it was taking forever holding down the key that prevented IDM from intercepting the download, so I changed the option in IDM, and I could still right click and select "download with IDM" from the context menu. Re-selecting the check box next to Mozilla fixed the problem

• Firefox not responding to keyboard input

I'm having issues with Firefox temporarily no longer responding to keyboard input.
I have two machines, both running Windows 7. On my laptop, I never have any issues but on my desktop, I find that Firefox sometimes blocks keyboard input. It will allow me to enter one character in any text field, and no more. Any further input is ignored. This applies to the address bar, the search box and any text fields in the displayed web page, in any tab. All keyboard navigation seems to also be ignored.
I've tried Reset Firefox and Safe Mode, they don't appear to change anything. I've also tried uninstalling Synergy and changing from my regular English-International keyboard layout to US English, but this still seems to occur. I am also running Workrave which can interrupt keyboard input, but since I can add 1 character, I suspect that Workrave is not the problem.
Sometimes it can seemingly be unblocked by pressing Start+F9, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, restarting firefox or opening a new tab, but this seems to only be a temporary solution, the problem soon reoccurs. This bug has been present for some time, I first noticed it in v28 (although it may be even older), I am currently using v31.
One thing I've noticed is that it never occurs until after my screen has been locked at least once.
The trouble-shooting information attached will not be entirely accurate because I'm using my laptop to type this - Firefox is not accepting keyboard input right now on my desktop! However, the two environments are similar.
Thanks, Tadhg

Some have reported that pressing F9 and the Windows key simultaneously one or more times has worked to fix issues with the keyboard not working.

• MY MACBOOK KEYBOARD ONLY TYPES IN CAPITAL LETTERS

my macbook keyboard only types in capial letters

And you posted here with a different computer?
...If not, does the Caps shift around by itself?
Are you using an external keyboard at the same time
and if so, was the Shift key locked on it? You can
choose to set Keyboard settings to ignore input from
the internal keyboard or trackpad, not sure on external.
{Or have you posted with a USB external keyboard?}
I'm presuming the issue is not as obvious as the lighted
'Caps Lock key' that shifts this function on/off. There
may be something sticking in the MacBook keyboard
or perhaps it has some kind of defect issue going on.
Good luck & happy computing!

• After "icloud locked", my mac keyboard non-responsive

Guys, I just locked my macbook through icloud (just for testing). Although I know the pin I set, the keyboard became non-responsive so that I cannot type in the pincode to unlock my mac. Ideas?

The hubs in keyboards are passive hubs (drawing power from the USB port at the end of the chain). Sometimes attaching power hungry devices to them causes problems.
Plug the iPod directly into a USB port on the Mini. If it's inconvenient, use a USB extender cable. If you don't have any more free ports, then you want to use a powered hub -- one that has a brick to supply power to hub, not draw it from the USB bus.

• I'm unable to do a clean install of Firefox 6 on Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8.

I'm unable to do a clean install of Firefox 6 on Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8. After trashing the firefox.app from the Applications folder and trashing a related file in the Library folder and then reinstalling, all of my previously opened windows and tabs reappear. And the history and bookmarks are populated too! Then, the computer freezes up so that I must reboot. Because these windows automatically open and the history and bookmarks are populated with my old history and bookmarks, I believe this is not a clean install. Please help.

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.
OS X Recovery
OS X Recovery (2)
When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

• I've been using firefox for my macbook pro for the last three years but lately when it starts up, I hear a strange piano chord play. Have others experienced it?

Only recently has Firefox for my macbook pro been acting strange when starting up. I will hear a piano chord play only once when the tabs are loading. Over the past two-three weeks on daily usage, this has happened three times. I'm just concerned my macbook has a virus/bug or if this can be resolved with changing a preference/setting in Firefox. I don't believe this is a problem with my computer itself and I have checked the notification alert sounds and none are the piano chords I'm hearing. I am currently using two add-ons: Tabs-mix plus and FVD Speed Dial if that helps.

Does it happen when you start up in Safe Mode?
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
* Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
;
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Time Machine Locked after MacBook Air reformatted. My MacBook Air was overfull due to an Address book issue (duplication) so after many attempts to clear space, I ended up wiping out the system and reloading Lion. This resulted in the Time Machine thinking that it was now connected to a different computer. Apparently this diables the existing information.
Now I can see that the back-ups exist (back to Sept 2012) but they are greyed out, therefore unavailale to restore. Again, this seems like an issue that shouldn't be happening. The whole point of the Time Machine is to enable reinstatement of data after catastrophic failure. What if my computer actually had to be replaced due to a hardware issue? How would I beableto restore anything?
The path already (unsuccessfully) taken;
Open Library on the computer, Open Time Machine, Select Correct date, drill down to correct data you wish to restore, click "Restore".
This did not work because the correct date was greyed out. Restore key was greyed out.

• I decided to remote lock my Macbook Pro from Find My iPhone. It's been three weeks and still no lock.

About three weeks ago, I was sitting in class, got bored, and decided that I'd try and see what would happen if I locked my Macbook Pro (17-inch 2.66 GHz on 10.8.2, early 2009) from Find My iPhone. I'm concerned because my Mac has never locked, despite being used daily, on a variety of networks, including buying from iTunes, and using Messages. I've turned off the computer multiple times since, and I really can't think of any other scenarios that I'd have to go through to get the Mac connected to Find My Mac. Is there anything I can do or is this just an oversight by Apple?

I think this is what you're saying, but I'm not sure:
You had turned on Find My Mac on your MacBook Pro in System Preferences > iCloud.
Then (while in class) you did a Find My Mac from your iPhone.  Presumably you did indeed see it pop up on a map there in its correct location.  You then sent a "lock" command which never took effect.  Further, you received an email confirmation that the lock commend actually got sent.
Is that right?
