Firefox locks up when it is opened

turned on the computer last week and when I opened firefox an update quickly flashed before it opened. Then when it opened the firefox update page and my yahoo page were on separate tabs. It prompted me to continue a session or end it. At this point no matter what I do it locks up. Now days later the home page opens but lock up when I click on anything including scrolling the home page.

I have the same problem (I use IE 7 as my browser). I have had the same problem with all the versions 7.1 as well. There have been numerous posts about it and it seems that Apple does not want to fix this. I uninstalled it and reinstalled version 7.0x via
http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/?1774
this version is once again working fine!

    I usually have 3-4 tabs open which I am saving to read later. But I loose them all the time when firefox crashes or when another appliaction opens firefox to download something and it will discard all my tabs. This is incredibly annoying, is there a way to save my tabs ? or get them back when there is no "restore session" button ?

    In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
    To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

  • Photoshop CS3 locks up when trying to open an EPS file

    Hello everyone. I have a problem with CS3 locking up when trying to open an EPS file. The files were created in Quark 4.0. Not sure if it has anything to do with my new computer, which has Microsoft XP 64 bit. There's another computer in my office which has CS4 that can open these files. Please help..!! Thank you.

    Try installing a PostScript printer on your XP64 system. For some reason this often seems to fix issues with EPS handling...

    Firefox locks up when in Facebook, it has only just started doing this, I get (Firefox not responding) at top of page. I have tried it in IE and have no problem. I log in using Lastpass.

    Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
    The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
    you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
    The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

  • I downloaded the "newest version" of Firefox. Now when I try & open FF, I get "Your computer must be rebooted." I have rebooted 7 times & still can't get in.

    I got a message that the version of Firefox I was using was outdated, so I downloaded the newest version.
    Now when I try & open Firefox I get the message, "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?"
    I have rebooted my computer 6 times & get that same message every time and still cannot get into Firefox. Has anyone else encountered this or know the solution?

    Hi Dann, did you delete to the Recycle Bin, or did you do a more drastic permanent delete (e.g., Shift+Delete) or empty the Recycle Bin?
    ''If you think it might be in the Recycle Bin:''
    First, make sure hidden folders are viewable. You can do that using Windows Explorer or My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab. Look for the radio buttons to show or not to show hidden files and folders.
    Now look for C:\Documents and Settings\''username''\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles or some part of that path, or your actual profile folder, which would have had a semi-random name, typically ending with default, or the bookmarkbackups folder, which is the ultimate prize.
    ''If it's not in the Recycle Bin:''
    To recover your old Firefox settings folder (profile folder), try using a utility like Piriform's Recuva:
    http://www.piriform.com/recuva
    That needs to run ASAP before deleted files are overwritten.
    The folder you're looking for would have had a semi-random name, but be located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\''username''\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
    By default, that folder is hidden. Make sure hidden folders are viewable. You can do that using Windows Explorer or My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab. Look for the radio buttons to show or not to show hidden files and folders.
    In particular, a bookmarkbackups folder would be a wonderful thing to be able to recover.
    Hopefully one of these methods will work for you.

  • Illustrator locks up when trying to open the preference window

    I have CS5 on windows 7. When I try to open the preference window illustrator locks up and will not open it. I can hit escape and it will go back to working fine. I have tried leaving it thinking maybe it was an odd loading issue but nothing changes. Other than this everything works perfectly fine it just refuses to open the preference window. I have tried searching but I can't find any one else with this issue, I am hoping to avoid having to reinstall it but it is starting to look like that may be my only option.

    crutchlets,
    You may consider at least two approaches.
    One is to wildly increase the monitor resolution to see whether it is hiding somewhere out there, in which case you can drag it into the area with the other things, then reduce again and clean up the mess.
    Another one is to try the relevant steps in the following list (1) - 4) and 6) as the last resort).
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Firefox locks up when I close it, then refuses to open again until I restart my PC

    Firefox refuses to open again after it freezes. This is happening every day and is fast becoming a browser that I will drop and never use again. As a long time user of Firefox I expected a more reliable product from Mozilla. The last 4 releases have been pure junk.
    I'm using Windows 7 (64Bit) with 32 mg of ram. Never had a problem in the last 10 years using Firefox, but I think the time has come to switch back IE 11 which from all reports is a fast stable browser.

    Same problem with FF37 beta. All internet loads stop. When I exit the program the window closes but process continues to run and Task Manager will not stop it. The only solution is to reboot. I have tried safe mode and a full refresh. Neither helps.

  • I've updated to Firefox 14, and when it's open and I open my email Firefox disappears, and vice versa. I need both on screen at same time. It's no good.

    On my MAC, with Firefox 14, (Firefox has been my favourite browser till now) it is impossible to have both Firefox and Emails, or Firefox and Safari, or Firefox and Address Book, or Firefox and iCal. Whichever I'm on when I open the other, the first immediately shoots up and out of vision or down and out of vision, only coming back when I click on the Dock icon for the particular item – Firefox, Mail, Safari, etc. It is so annoying and hugely time-wasting as I like to have all these open at the same time for the work that I do as a literary publisher.

  • Recently upgraded from Firefox 3.6.13 to Firefox 13 - freezes when trying to open

    I've been using firefox 3.6.13 for some time now; the reason I have such an older version is because it's for a work computer, and an upgrade to newer versions generally isn't seamless and can interrupt the process of work.
    Any way, I find some down time and decided that I'd upgrade to the latest version of firefox. Every thing seemed to install fine, and it copied over all of my addons apparently (which I'm grateful for). How ever, when opening up Firefox it opens and displays two tabs saying "connecting", but nothing happens beyond that. It just freezes completely providing the "waiting" icon when hovering over it. I tried waiting 10+ minutes for what ever process was holding up to complete, but nothing happened. In order to close out of firefox I need to kill the process in task manager.
    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same issue occurs. I tried looking for previous, more stable, versions of firefox but couldn't find any thing.

  • Since upgrading to Windows 8, Firefox locks up when I try to use it, can anyone suggest why please?

    We had to download Firefox once we had installed Windows 8. Although we now have a Firefox tile on the new Windows desktop, to enable access to Firefox, whenever we click on it to go to Firefox, we get the option to select Firefox as our default browser. Whether we say Yes or No, the screen then locks up and we have to use Control, Alt and Delete to close it.

    The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
    Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
    To Reset Firefox do the following:
    #Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
    #Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
    #Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
    Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • IPhoto 9.3 locking up when trying to open

    Tried to open iPhoto & it seemed to be doing an upgrade.  Got a message:  "Alert -- The photo img_0018.jpg could not be opened because the original item could not be found."  I then tell it to search & it goes to my photo files and locks up.  I've tried rebooting & then opening iPhoto again, but same thing happens.  Wish I'd never upgraded to this.  Never had problems with Ver 9, but Ver. 11 has had many problems.  How do I get it to open?  Thanks.

    Nevermind.  Kept playing with it & got it to work.  When it asked if I wanted to search for a photo, I said "Cancel."  In checking Finder, I did find some photos were missing.  So decided not to worry about them.  If I really want to look for them, I'll check up my backup.
