Firefox locks up when right-clicking and using drop-down menus

I've experienced this problem with earlier versions of Firefox as well - sometimes when right clicking (like opening up a new link) or using a drop-down menu (like in Gmail) Firefox completely locks up and I need to control all delete shut it down and restart it manually.
Any ideas?

I bought pages on the app store and have math type installed. However I am do not have the option to "Insert > Mathtype Equations" either with right click or the drop down menus at the top of the screen. I also have OS Lion installed if this makes any difference. Please help!

I assume but I can't check that MathType rely on the standard iWork applications location which isn't the one used by the mac App Store.
Create a subfolder named iWork '09 in the Applications folder.
Select the iwork applications which you own then drag them into the iWork '09 folder.
You will be asked to type your password. Don't worry, it's normal.
It's required because the System must store the infos describing the new location so that, if a new revision is delivered, mac App Store will be able to find the apps where they are.
When this will be done, try to re-install MathType.
I guess that this time it will behave flawlessly.

hai i am using firefox 3.6.When right clicking on a link and a window opens up, i want it to ask me "Open Link in New tab" first, not second.

First, you are using a version of Firefox that is very old and outdated. Please update to at least Firefox 3.6.27, or more preferably, update to Firefox 10.0.2. There are lots of bug fixes, security improvements, and much improved performance in Firefox 10.
After you do that, try seeing if you are still having a problem. If you are, is this that when you try to select "Open in a new tab" it opens in a new window instead? Or something else?

  • Missing Export and Use Drop Down Lists

I cannot export my .mov files to any format other than .mov as the Export and Use drop down lists are missing. When I go to File > Export the text for Export and Use are there followed by blank gray space as if the drop down lists never existed.
I just upgraded to Pro today and had infrequently used QuickTime Player previously. I have the most current version 7.6.5. The other functions appear to be working normally, but I am not a "familiar user" so I can't say for sure.
    Any ideas?

Well I could not copy & paste the text from the Movie Inspector, so I have typed it below (except for the complete source info).
    Source: C:\....Filename.MOV
Format: 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 44.100 KHz
    MPEG-4 Video, 1280 x 720, Millions
    Movie FPS: 30.01
    Playing FPS: 30.01
    Data Size: 8.16 MB
    Data Rate: 6.99 mbits/sec
    Current Time: 00:00:00.00
    Duration: 00:00:09.80
    Normal Size: 1280 x 720 pixels
    Current Size: 1280 x 720 pixels
I have also downloaded a couple of iPod hip-hop ad movies (.mov) and they have the same problem (no export drop-down lists), so I don't believe it is the movie format.
I have not tried to uninstall/reinstall QuickTime Pro yet, but wonder if I should....

  • Problems using drop down menus in safari v7

I am having problems using drop down menus in safari v7. e.g. on the BMW used cars website (http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk), there's a drop down box for location. This only goes up to 50 miles on my macbook but goes up to national on my iPad. Any ideas?

Thanks Peter, Dale. Looks like it is back to the drawing board for me then!
I tried to import it through MS Word but iPad doesn't support the document.  Looking into converting document into a Numbers spreadsheet as it has drop down boxes but unfortunately need to buy the £6.99 numbers app for iPad to make it worthwhile. Might just stick to good old fashioned "cross out the answers that don't apply" using pen and paper..................

  • Firefox 6. When right clicking a tab no drop-down menu appears. Why do I not have the option to pin, unpin, etc.

I'm using Firefox 6 with all current updates. This is on a desktop pc running Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
At some previous time I was able to pin tabs - I pinned three. Lately I do not have a drop-down menu when right clicking on a pinned or unpinned tab. The feature is just not there.

Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • My 27 inch imac has just started acting weird, the thumbnail images and folder on the desktop have disappeared although the titles are still visible. When I open a programme the programme windows are all black and the drop down menus just show random

When I tried to open the web browser the browser flashed black and white at start up, then all the applications when i open a new window are completely black, I am unable to view the drop down menus as the come out as random pixels. This happens to all new applications i have been able to open. The document window opens as plain white but if you click on it  it opens a document even though you cant see any thumb nails. Some of the documents are open as normal images/files. Having been a mac user for 10 years i have never seen anything like this before, any ideas or suggestions

I have started running a virus check.
There are no viruses for OSX.  Uninstall the software, repair permissions and restart your computer.  Especially if it's Norton's.  It's known to cause problems.
To rule out a hardware problem, run the hardware test:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11342 OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test and zapp the PRAM:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11342 OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test.
In the end you may need to lug your iMac down to your local AASP or an AS.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!
i have had a mac in fact it is 17 years.
You got me beat by 3 yrs.

  • Does anybody know why I am unable to use drop-down menus on my mac?

I dont know if its a mac book problem or just me, but I can't get any drop-down menus to work? When I click on the arrow nothing happens! Can anyone help as I am unable to log out of email, facebook etc.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • When right clicking and selecting, open in new tab and then repeating on a new link, the first link opens again??.. Only happens with OS X

On a page with multiple links I like to right click a few links and get them to open in a new tab. However, about 50% of the time the first link opens twice. It only seems to happen with OS X but have not noticed any similar behaviour with other applications.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. <br />

  • Since upgrading to Windows 8, Firefox locks up when I try to use it, can anyone suggest why please?

We had to download Firefox once we had installed Windows 8. Although we now have a Firefox tile on the new Windows desktop, to enable access to Firefox, whenever we click on it to go to Firefox, we get the option to select Firefox as our default browser. Whether we say Yes or No, the screen then locks up and we have to use Control, Alt and Delete to close it.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Finder crashes when right clicking and compressing a file

All of a sudden the finder is now crashing whenever I right click on a file attempting to compress it with the archive utility. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Ok, it's actually still happening now, I don't know why deleting that file only helped for a night... any ideas?

  • How do I configure Firefox so that when I open the bookmarks drop-down list, the previous bookmark that I clicked in the same session is high-lighted - especially if it's located in a sub-folder (just like IE)?

I wish to replicate the behavior of IE (heresy - I know!) when opening the drop-down Bookmarks (i.e., Favorites) menu so that I don't have to repeatedly "drill-down" into one or more subfolders in order to select the same bookmark as before or to select any of the other (saved) ones in the same subfolder.
I always wanted to know if this was possible since I happily began using FF several years ago, but never found the time to ask until now.
Currently using FF4 on WinXP Pro SP3 occasionally along w/ IE8 and its wonderful "Save Target As ..." right-click option.

I figgered it out. The resolution of the screen was set at 600x800, so the bookmarks dropdown menu took up more space than usual. The pop out folder contents didn't have enough room to pop out. With a resolution for a slightly smaller display the drop down bookmarks menu functions perfectly.

  • When I click on the drop down options they are flicking quickly & I can't select one. I've uninstalled & re-installed Firefox. Any ideas?

It happens whenever I'm on the internet - banking etc. Usually the options - like how I want my name written - come up when I click in a box, and I can select the one I want. Now however when I click on the box the options flicker past quickly & no matter how fast I move my mouse I can't select anything! Very frustrating, so I hope someone can help me.

Try to update to Firefox 12. Does the issue still happen there? (Firefox 3.6 is no longer supported or secure).
Try to start Firefox in [[Safe mode|Safe mode]]. This mode disables all extensions, user customizations, hardware acceleration, etc. temporarily for diagnostic and troubleshooting. If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

  • Firefox won't let me select options from drop down menus, on the previous version nor on the current 4.0 version that I just downloaded.

If I am on a site and trying to get information etc, and I have to choose from a drop down menu of any kind, Firefox won't let me choose anything. I can't answer the next question regarding This Happened because I can't select from your drop down.
