Firefox looses tabs on crash or End Task
Since upgrading to FF 12 I now regularly loose my tabs. When FF exits via an End Task from Task Manager or a system crash, it seems to loose the tabs. On restart of FF it coems up with the "Well this is embarrassing ..." but the list of restore windows/tabs is completely blank !
This is a complete nightmare, as I have lost months of saved up tabs and research. Please can someone help, otherwise this will be the final straw with FF which I've used since inception !
Same problem here. Since version 12 Firefox has problems with Flash(on Windows, on Linux works great), you close all youtube tabs and it still plays in the background, if you close Firefox all ends. But this time, I tried to close Firefox, it imitated closing but it was still playing in the background even if I closed in it the youtube tabs, so, I checked the Task Manager's processes list and saw there firefox.exe sitting and not releasing the memory to close. I closed it manually and when I tried to reopen I lost all my tabs. Taking my 4 MB sessionstore.bak and replacing sessionstore.js doesn't work either because when I run Firefox it replaces this file with a sessionstore.js that weights about 700 Bytes and in Firefox I have only the "about:home" page. Trying to open the "about:sessionrestore" page doesn't show anything either...
I found this site: http://dag.wieers.com/blog/what-if-firefox-loses-your-tabs and in the comments this Python script: http://jacaranda.org/firefox/fixstore.py but it doesn't work for me with Python 3.2. I think that Firefox should have by default something like that.

Task Manager shows that Firefox is still running. Clicking End Task restarts the video playing and application running (then I have to cancel the End Task and Close Program processes).
Try uninstalling Flash Player 10.2 and install the previous version, 10.1.There have been a few reports of problems with Flash that have been solved by using the previous version. You can download the uninstaller for Flash, and get version 10.1 from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
The Adobe archive files contain multiple versions of 10.1 for all operating systems so is quite a large download, the old-apps lets you just download the Windows versions that you require - http://www.oldapps.com/flash_player.php
You can also try disabling hardware acceleration on Flash to see if that helps. If you can access any Flash content, right-click on it and choose Settings. In the first section of the settings is the option to enable/disable hardware acceleration. -
Firefox locks up and crashes when trying to print a PDF from a website?
I am using Firefox ver 3.6.13 Every time I try to print a PDF displayed on a web site Firefox locks up. If I have several tabs open all of them are locked. I have to use taskmanager to end the program and restart Firefox. To print the PDF's I have to save them then open them using Adobe reader and print that way.
I can vie the PDF within Firefox and all is good. It only locks up when I try to print. Printing any non pdf page I have no problem.On my x64 Win 7 system, practically the whole system was frozen. After the "Print" button was pressed the dialog stating "Preparing" came up, but I had to use Cntrl+Shift+Esc to open task manager. Then I had to use keyboard arrows to select firefox.exe and Alt+E to end task and the space bar to confirm. Mouse would move, but not "click" anything. If I attempted to click anything, I had to Cntrl+Alt+Del to get to where I could "Log Off" and that forced firefox to quit.
I found my problem was an addon with improper settings. Internet Download Manager addon was loading with firefox, but in IDM's actual options, the check box to integrate IDM with Mozilla was NOT checked and the Advanced integration with browsers was also unchecked. I had been having issues with downloading from sites that do not allow 3rd party software to download, and it was taking forever holding down the key that prevented IDM from intercepting the download, so I changed the option in IDM, and I could still right click and select "download with IDM" from the context menu. Re-selecting the check box next to Mozilla fixed the problem -

Do you still get the problem in [[safe mode]] and with default themes, and all plugins disabled. Note common causes of crashes are malware, and versions of the software IDvault. (do you use IDvault ? - often provided by Comcast) -
However during the process of adding new songs itunes crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting the chance to sync the new songs onto ipod nano. later when i plugged in my current ipod touch all my songs have disappeared and i cant find the original itunes library i had for it! is there anyway to get it back? i have tried pressing shift when opening itunes but still cant find the original itunes that i had!!
Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.

The presence of such files usually indicates that that was a problem with accessing the main sessionstore.js file that prevented Firefox from renaming the temp file with the number.<br />
In this case you may be lucky that the file with the highest number may have that session.<br />
You can try to rename the file sessionstore-3.js to sessionstore.js to see if that brings back the lost tabs.
If you use the Time Machine then you can try to restore a copy of sessionstore.js from around the time that you lost that session. -
Firefox locks up and I have to end task and restart firefox
firefox locks up and I cant click anywhere and get it to respond or close. the only way i can correct this it to control alt delete and then end task. then restart firefox. It happens frequently and does not matter if i am searching the net with google or reading articles on Drudge

I saw a poss solution to my prob of loosing tab groups when closing firefox It read ". Edit > Preferences > Privacy "I can't find references under the edit menu" so cannot attempt the fix offered?Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible). -
When I close Firefox, the windows closes normally, but firefox.exe still appears in Processes in Task Manager. I have to End Process to open Firefox again, and it goes to Restore Last Session page.

If I try to re-open firefox normally I get a message that the program is still running and I need to go into task manager and manually kill the process.
I could also kill the process from the command prompt, but both of those methods are slow and annoying. This issue has only been occurring for the last 24 hours or so; to the best of my knowledge I haven't downloaded any new software or updated any plug-ins that would have caused a switch from firefox's normal awesomeness. Norton doesn't show any new viruses or other nastiness on my computer.

My computer crashed and I cant reload firefox.. I have tried the task manager and deleting uninstalling and installing program again. I click on icon and nothing appears although it appears to start and is running in task manager, but the browser wont open.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

After updating to Firefox 5.0.1 and trying to open Firefox, it opens two tabs. One is the restore session tab and the other is the Firefox home tab. Nothing opens in the session restore tab and once the Firefox home tab loads the browser screen freezes with no crash ID's listed. The only way to get out is thru the task manager and ending the process. Firefox worked fine before updating.

Try typing ''about:home'' into the address bar. Is that the page you are looking for? If so, go to ''Tools > Options > General'' and save it as your homepage. If that home page doesn't show up the next time you start Firefox, you should look at [[Preferences are not saved]].

Every 5-20 minutes firefox stalls (not full crash)
Windows 7, 6.0.2, http://i.imgur.com/qBmF9.jpg shows addons installed. issue has existed 2-3 weeks now. Firefox "stalls" (not a crash, just blue-circle, screen goes white, not responding) for approx 20 seconds, every 5-20 minutes. Sometimes random, sometimes seems to be triggered by opening new tabs, especially many new tabs. Does not happen in chrome, haven't tried IE. I had upload ping issues with my router, fixed them, problem persists. I can switch to other programs during the stalls, only firefox slows down. Any help?

Firefox 3.6.13 crashes on various pages AND makes unauthorized downloads
For the past week or so, Firefox 3.6.13 crashes repeatedly, on different pages, often while we are entering data or performing a transaction. We always submit crash reports, but we never hear from Firefox.
In addition, something in or on Firefox makes continuous unauthorized downloads. Nothing appears in our download files, in Internet Download Manager, or in Task Manager. The only new tabs we have opened lately are NYTimes and HughrsNet news pages.
Since HughesNet limits downloads except 2-6 AM EST, this is a serious problem. We have had to curtail Firefox until this is resolved.I had the same problem, until I did some research. I uninstalled firefox 3.6.13, and reinstalled firefox 3.6.12. When I did some research, I found that the quicktime plugin had been blocklisted. I disabled the quicktime plugin, updated to firefox 3.6.13, and the problem was gone. My add-on window doesn't freeze up anymore either.

My usage of FF hasn't changed over the last 2-3 years (probably longer) and I often run multiple windows with multiple tabs each.

HadynFrom your crash report, most of them have an OOM ( (NS_ABORT_OOM)) signature attached somewhere in it which means Firefox ran out of memory and crashed. The only exception is the report that has a signature of [https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/3fdf2f42-026e-40f8-8c61-de6342140523 mozilla::WebGLTexture::DoDeferredImageInitialization(unsigned int, int)] Firefox crashes because it's out of memory seems odd because your System Memory Use Percentage doesn't seem to hit the high 90's like normal reports and hovers around 50-78%. Usually the percentage of RAM Firefox uses before it crashes is around 90-96%. Each case is different though. See the below article for some quick fixes for this.

Firefox Causes "BLUE SCREEN CRASH"
Hello There.
To my utter dismay I am forced to use Chrome to access this forum. The reason is the moment I use Firefox (3) my computer crashes and I get the dreaded windows blue screen. I have been using ff for a long time now without problems. Yesterday I updated adobe flash player, but have now uninstalled flash player in the hope that the problem is resolved. No luck. I can use my computer in normal manner without problems, but the moment I use ff it crashesI have this problem too, just installed Windows 7 Home Premium x64 two days ago. Yesterday I did a massive windows update and I believe the BSODs started after that. I've isolated it down to Firefox, partly because I had a similar problem with Vista x64 prior to the Win 7 upgrade and had removed Firefox from the machine completely w/o giving it too much thought.
Last night I found a way that 100% crashes windows within 5 mins, 5 times in a row, open firefox, open certain tabs and just wait. BSOD.
Note I also use Thunderbird but that doesn't seam to crash windows.
I found two separate threads on other forums suggesting this might have something to do with fonts. Not sure why Firefox is the only application suffering from it though. So from another thread following steps were suggested that are shown below, I haven't tried these. Another user on a different forum suggested running windows repair and through that somehow fixing the fonts. I'll report later if this issue helps solve the problem.

2. first try going to control panel > fonts >font settings (on left) > restore
default fonts
3. if you can't access fonts in the control panel then try this... in explorer go
here: \\%COMPUTERNAME%\C$\Windows\Fonts (replacing %computername% with your computername).
4. then hit ctrl+a to select all the fonts.
5. once they're all selected right click and select "install".
6. when the dialogue box pops up saying that "[such and such] font is
already installed, would you like to reinstall it?" click the box for "do this for
all current items", and hit "yes"
7. reboot (just for grins), and you should be good to go
