Firefox loses my open tabs whenever it locks up

Firefox often locks up. When I restart it, it always loses my open tabs. I am able to restore them from a backup, but this is somewhat tedious. Can anything be done, so that my tabs come up when I restart Firefox (which seems to make a backup of the sessionstore.js file)?

Hello,
Did you try set Firefox to always start with the last session?
Go to Tools >> Options >> General > in the option When Firefox starts: change to Show my windows and tabs from the last time

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• When trying to download a simple Adobe file, Firefox continues to open tab after tab after tab after tab, etc.

Any Adobe file that I want to download causes Firefox to open multiple tabs in rapid succession. I can not stop the multiple tabs from opening except by CTRL-ALT-DEL to then manually close Firefox. Even then Firefox immediately re-opens on its own and continues the multiple tabs until I shut the PC down.

What do you have set for the Action for those Adobe file types?

• Firefox won't open tabs.

So, the other day I was browsing the web via firefox, and if I pressed enter or go, It wouldn't go to the website. No errors, it just simply wouldn't respond. So I reinstalled firefox, and problem solved!
...The only problem NOW is that I can't open tabs in firefox. If I click the + button beside my tab, it won't work. Same with right click, new tab and CTRL+T. However, if I click on a link, it WILL open a new tab. This is obnoxious. Please help.

Try disabling the Ask Toolbar extension. Something is broken in that extension in 3.6.13.

• Why does firefox lose all the tabs when logging on? annoying to remember the ones I had open

I open a few tabs with most used sites, facebook, ebay etc and when i log off i save and exit, some times it keeps them other times they go

Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the browsing history.
Session restore works more reliable if you choose Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time" instead of relying on the Save & Quit dialog.

• Firefox will not open tabs in a new window

When I right click a tab, and select the option "Open in a new window", Firefox does not respond.
I can add as many tabs as I like, but can not open them in a new window.
I can also right click a link and open it in a new tab, but Firefox does not do anything when I try to open the link in a new window.
I reinstalled Firefox on my computer, and also updated Java and it did not solve the problem.
This started happening about a week ago for no apparent reason.

First check to see if an add-on is causing this problem, for details on how to do that see the troubleshooting extensions and themes article.
If that does not help, try creating a new profile. Firefox stores user data in the profile folder, creating a new profile will show if the problem is with the old profile. For how to do that see Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows. If the new profile works, you can transfer select data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. DO not copy the preferences file, and it is best to re-install add-ons. For details of how to do that see transferring data to a new profile.

• Why firefox loses my saved tabs when it starts?

My problem is pretty simple, it doesn't give me my saved tabs. I just get a blank tab. This happens a lot, maybe 5 times in the last 10 times I started firefox. An unbelievable problem that made me hate firefox and don't want to use it ever!
I don't know why I still insist on using firefox, I should've turned to use chrome or IE9.

If you use Clear Recent History in Firefox 3.5 and later to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

• How can I recover Firefox information (bookmarks, open tabs, etc) after "Refresh" caused profile loss?

Firefox kept hanging up. I tried Refresh button; received "almost done" message, then nothing happened. I quit & restarted Firefox, & now get message that profile is missing or moved. Used Mozilla instructions to locate profile, it was not in folder I was directed to. I now have a "Old Firefox Data" folder on my desktop.

It sounds as though the Refresh did not complete normally. But you knew that.
Since I am a Windows user, I apologize in advance if this reply is not completely applicable to your system.
Check inside "Old Firefox Data" folder for a folder with a semi-randomized name. If there's only one, that probably has your old settings and add-ons. If there's more than one, you'll want to work with the one that was updated most recently.
Once you have identified the profile folder you want to restore, here is my suggested "old profile resurrection procedure":
Overview
These are the steps detailed below:
# Create a new Firefox profile
# Remove everything from that new profile folder
# Copy in everything from the old profile folder
Create a new Firefox profile
Quit Firefox if it's running. Start up in the Profile Manager using the method in this article: Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles.
Notes:
* Do not delete anything here!
* Any time you want to switch profiles, quit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like OldSettings, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then select that new profile in the dialog and start Firefox.
Open the New Profile folder in Finder
Firefox in the new profile should look like a factory fresh installation. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the first table, click the "Show in Finder" button. Firefox will launch an Finder window showing the contents of your brand new profile folder.
Leaving that folder open, switch back to Firefox, and Quit/Exit. When Firefox closes, the new profile folder should be front and center, or you can activate it using the Task bar (?? or Mac equivalent).
Copy Old Data in Place of New
In that new profile folder, select all the contents and delete. Make sure you don't delete from your old folder.
Leaving that window open, open or switch over to your Old Firefox Data folder. Drill down into your old profile folder. At this level you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.
Select everything and Copy (either right-click > Copy or Command+c).
Switch to the empty new profile folder in other window and Paste (either right-click > Paste or Command+v). This may take a minute since some of the files are large.
Start Firefox
Firefox should start up in that new profile with the resurrected old profile data. Success?

• I've done something and Firefox don't open tabs when I click on the open new tab and when I click on right click there is a lot of options..

Wheb I click right click there's a lot of option, before I use to have just a few. I wish that I can send you a photo how that looks.

You can't attach a screenshot to the first post that starts a thread, but you can do that in subsequent replies.
You can check for issues caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

• Can't open tabs from previous session (after Firefox regularly closed)?!

Regularly closed firefox 36.0.4. and shot down computer (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit).
On next start, Firefox doesn't open tabs from previous session (altought it is configured to do this) !?!?!?
I lost about 30 tabs!!
Very, very frustrating!!!
Think to finish using Firefox forever!!!!!

Don't exit Firefox! Or if you already did, don't start it back up again!
If Firefox is running: Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listed various files and folders. For best results, change the view to "Details".
(If Firefox not running, get to this folder by pasting the following in the Run box on the start menu and pressing Enter: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and then double-click into the most recently updated semi-randomly-named folder you find there.)
In the window that launches, scroll down and double-click into the sessionstore-backups folder. Save all files here to a safe location, such as your Documents folder, so Firefox doesn't overwrite them. We may be able to use them to recover your lost tabs.
Also, if you return to the main level of the profile folder, you may find some sessionstore files. Copy those to the safe location as well.
Could you report back on what you found?
Note: If Windows hides the .js file extension from you, you can change a setting so that you can see all file extensions (this helps when renaming files). This support article has the steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219 or http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions
The kinds of files you may find among your sessionstore-backup files are:
* recovery.js: the windows and tabs in your currently live Firefox session (or, if Firefox is closed, your last session)
* recovery.bak: a backup copy of recovery.js
* previous.js: the windows and tabs in your last Firefox session
* upgrade.js-build_id: the windows and tabs in the Firefox session that was live at the time of your last update
