Firefox lost all my tabs

I had firefox open twice and accidently closed one, leaving one open. Then I closed the other. The first had 22 tabs open, the second just one. When I opened firefox again it only remembered the last window I closed, the one with just one tab open. This has happened once before and it remebered the window with one tab open, but I just closed it and opened it again and it remembered the window with multiple tabs open. This time, though it will not remember the 22 tabs and I ve tried closing it and re opening several times, but my 22 tabs dont re-appear. I ve tried contacting Mozilla and there is no way of doing so, unless I want to fly to the US and knock on their door, as their address is the only contact details they give. I really need those 22 tabs open again as I cant remember them all ! Some tabs have only been open a few days, some for months so a simple check in history wont help.

garferi, thanks for the pointer about File -> Exit. However, I find it a clumsy solution: no one is using File -> Exit if there is a closing button. No one will ever know this crucial difference between the commands unless they do specific investigation. There is no keyboard short-cut for that File -> Exit command either, even as the Mozilla folk are advising to use it.
Consider this. I have opened a lot of tabs. I have created several tab groups, and I have opened a lot of tabs in each of them. I open Firefox, do stuff, close Firefox numerous times. Then once I get a pop-under window that I miss. It's easy - they are designed to be missed. I want to exit Firefox, so I click on the close button. I am now left with the pop-under window. I close that one too, and upon the next Firefox start all my tabs in all my tab groups are lost.

Don't know if there is an option make the download window stay up, but you can bring it back with Ctrl+J then right-click on the download to open the folder it was downloaded to.

5.0.1 Firefox, application froze then crashed. Restarted it, but no 'restore session' and i've lost all my tabs. Help please?!?!
    Done config:restoresession, and nothing.

There shouldn't be any numbered sessionstore-##.js in the Firefox Profile Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
The presence of such files usually indicates that that was a problem with accessing the main sessionstore.js file that prevented Firefox from renaming the temp file with the number.<br />
In this case you may be lucky that the file with the highest number may have that session.<br />
You can try to rename the file sessionstore-3.js to sessionstore.js to see if that brings back the lost tabs.
If you use the Time Machine then you can try to restore a copy of sessionstore.js from around the time that you lost that session.

    Hi Diovizor,
Make sure that you do not use [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History Clear Recent History] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.
Also please make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: Use custome settings for history. Uncheck "Always use permanent Private Browsing mode"
    Hope that helps!

  • I have firefox on windows xp. I've lost all my tabs!!! No history or bookmarks either. Help

A few weeks ago I lost all my tabs at the top. I tried looking online for different suggestions. Some said to hit Alt + V, but that didn't work. Can you help? I've lost the parts that say "File, edit, view, history, bookmarks, etc..."

Well my husband ran a check on my computer, and it turned out I had a lot of viruses on it! So we got that all cleaned up and protected, so now it's all back! Thanks though. I've been dealing with this issue for over a month!

    Fred,
Thanks so much for the reply. Amy way you could elaborate on the "known issue" aspect? Is there another thread I missed? Some sort of Knowledge base article? also, I'm not sure why you linked to the page you did. FF is installed on all my machines and I can of course download the latest version every couple of weeks and push it to all my lab iMacs using ARD, so I'm confused as to why you linnked me to FF's installer page - is there something I can do with the installer that will alow auto-updates that I'm missing/not aware of?
Again, thanks for the heads-up and any further elaboration on either further info on the issue or how I might use the installer to auto-update all my machines will be appreciated.

  • I have lost all my tabs and the window is not in the recently closed windows.

Basically I opened up another window to do something while having the other window with my 20+ tabs running and that other window contained 1 tab after I was done using that window I closed it and closed my 20+ tab windows. I launch Firefox again to see that I lost all my tabs, I check the recently closed windows and its not there. Please help me! Those tabs contained very important information and I don't believe I rememer all of the websites!

Did you first check if you can restore that previous session and then check for recently closed windows?

  • Help! I have downloaded Firefox 4 on my Mac which is running OS 10.4.11 and it will not open. It has displaced my previous Firefox 3 . How can I recover previous Firefox (and all my tabs)?

I have downloaded Firefox 4 on my Mac which is running OS 10.4.11 and it will not open. It has displaced my previous Firefox 3. How can I recover my previous Firefox (and all my tabs?)

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • I tried grouping tabs without reading the book first and have lost all my tabs, I've now read the book; how do I get them back?

I have about 120 tabs in my Firefox navigation bar and clicked on the "customise..." in the dropdown menu from a right click. Up came the opening panel showing all my tabs fanned out, one on top of the other and I didn't know what to do. I guess I must have clicked on them to see what happened but there was nothing obvious so I closed the pop-up screen.
I think it was then that I had a new tab screen appear which I closed and found I could not do anything on my screen that still showed all the tabs.
I am using Ubuntu and Firefox 6 and when I first started Firefox it was embarrassed and had to restart because it had trouble with my tabs. I did not close any of them, just restarted Firefox and it apparently started properly, but the more I think about it the less I remember.
I think looking at tab groups was probably the first thing I did. So I tried to restore all tabs from the history menu but couldn't do so. I found that the "New tab" on File was blacked out.
I was able to "open all in tabs" from the recent bookmarks in the bookmark menu, but couldn't add any new tabs.
In the end I went to Firefox Help and read about Tab Groups. At one stage, I did not have the group icon on the navigation bar so I put it there. When I clicked on it it opened all my recent bookmarks, as per the end of the previous paragraph, in one screen and allowed me to shift individual tabs around. But I cannot do that now.
I have two screens under Firefox that have the "New Tab" under File blacked out and I cannot put the Group icon on the navigation bar.
I have a third screen, this one I am using, that has navigation to Firefox Help, Firefox Password Reset, TalkTalk mail and FirefoxAsk a question. On this screen I have put the Group icon and all the dropdown menus are complete. (Incidentally, I used the TalkTalk tab to open my mail as part of resetting my password and the content of the email is one of the screens that has the "New File" blacked out.)
I am now in the situation whereby I have all my history for the last six months or more and all the bookmarks scattered around in the Library and it will be a lot of work to get back to my original tabs.
Is ther anywhere that the old navigation tabs my be stored?

Unless your photos were backed up somewhere, they're gone.  They were wiped off your phone when you restored it from your wife's data.

  • Firefox closes all the tabs on its own unexpectedly and we have to start everything afresh.why does this happen?

our browser closes on its own unexpectedly, all the tabs and everything closes down (esp when playing games in facebook), we have to start everything afresh, just worried if this is not a sign of crash because we haven't received any crash report and if so how can we prevent any further damage.

  • 5.0 update lost all my tabs, restore previous session doesn't work

This update really ticks me off. I was upgraded to version 5 without any warning and all my tabs are gone. They had all my logins on them and there are too many to remember. What the *^%^*&(*)()(*&. How can I restore back to version 4 and my tabs.

If you are in the profile manager then that is probably your problem, starting a new profile would be devoid of your old information. You have to find the profile you had before the problem, and use it (or copy it into your new profile, if you are beta testing and need to use multiple profiles) . Generally anything you do in a profile must be done with Firefox down. If what you are looking at looks like the picture in
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
but more than just default, first find the correct profile you need by find the profile used until the date of the problem, check each profile for the last modified dates for places.sqlite and the .json files in bookmarkbackups in your profiles.
Since you are on Windows 7 as am I, you can get there by inserting your username that you log in to Windows with. The foldername in the Profiles directory includes the profilename plus additional characters to prevent two profiles from every having the same name on your system.
    C:\Users\''<userid>''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
When you identify the correct profile, choose that profile name in the profile manager, then click on "Start Firefox". Never delete any profiles unless you are sure of what you are doing and have a backup of everything on an external device.
You can add the profile to your Desktop or Quick Launch button so you won't be asked, once you are working properly.

  • Upon turning on my computer, Firefox was Yahoo optimized w/o asking me, and I lost all my tabs....How do I get them back?

I am furious....I dont want to optimize my browser for Yahoo.....and when I started my computer this morning, it started in Firefox without asking me, without my Walnut add on, and no tabs, of which I had many.....now I have the walnut add on, but am missing all my many tabs that I used every day....is there a place where they are stored? Why did this happen? Who said it was alright for Yahoo to step in and optimize for themselves? I dont want Yahoo search, I want Google search...

    I think I found your backup ...
    from Apple Support:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac:  ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP:  \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7:  \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note:  If you do not see the AppData or Application  Data folders, you may need to  show  hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista,  Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • I tried Firefox 4. When I closed and reopened it, I had lost all my tabs so I went back to 3.6.

Any chance of this being fixed in subsequent updates of version 4?

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
Pending the update by Symantec you will need to use Firefox 3.6 if you want to use the Norton add-ons.
