Firefox missing fixedsys and terminal fonts?

I know I have the fixedsys and terminal font installed in the windows font folder, however, they don't show up when selecting for a font in the Tools>Options>Content>fonts & colors. The drop down list of fonts don't show it at all.
I have chrome and they show in there.
Apparently firefox doesn't seem to see that the fonts exist at all, since attempting to display a webpage with these fonts makes it default to times new roman.
I want these fonts back, how do I get them?

There should be plenty of monospace fonts available that you can use instead of bitmap fonts.
Bitmap font can't be enlarged like vector font and will show blocky.

  • CS4 (XP Pro)--missing bold and italic fonts for PMingLiu font

I'm working on a book that's been translated into Chinese. The Chinese text I'm using was sent to me in Microsoft Word using the PMingLiu font. While in Word, there are some characters that appear in bold and/or italics, but those disappear when I try any means of importing into ID (as in placing the file as a Word document, placing the file as rtf, or even just copying and pasting from Word).
As I've seen mentioned in other topics on this forum, no matter what I do, I get the pink boxes that I have to highlight and change to PMingLiu (slow but not a huge problem). But I really do need the bolds and italics. I only seem to have "Regular" PMingLiu--don't have the bold and italic varieties listed in my font list.
Are those fonts available somewhere to download?
Thanks so much to the oh-so helpful readers of this forum!

Microsoft Office applications as well as many other applications allow you to "bold" or "italicize" content even when the "bold" or "italic" version of the font is either not installed or in fact might not even exist. Artificial bold usually consists of stroking the character slightly in addition to filling it. Artificial italic is performed by skewing (obliqueing) the character to simulate the look of an italic style. Although these artificial techniques sometimes yield usable results, they are typically NOT supported by graphic arts programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop. Typically, bold and italic faces are typical of most but not all "Latin" font families but are less common for non-Latin font families.
In your particular case, I suspect that artificial bold, italic, and/or combinations of bold and italic were used with the font in question. InDesign does "the right thing" by indicating that no such font exists. If you want to simulate bold, let the characters in question be stroked in addition to being filled. The width of the stroke will obviously depend on the point size of the text and the style of the characters. You will need to experiment a bit. For italics, skew the characters to the right; again you will need to experiment.
Doing a quick web search, from what I can best determine, there are no bold or italic versions of PMingLiu available either for free or for paid licensing.

  • Firefox 3.5 teh Personas are missing and reload page, Also Firefox is bogged and not working correctly, it is NOT working with iGoogle Homepage either, All sorts of problems

Firefox is bogged and does not reload right.. Firefox Persona's is missing..
iGoogle when down nearly 2 weeks ago and my iGoogle homepage went missing in action, all gadgets gone, just a blank page, NOTHING worked, all steps did NOT restore it, AND the help forum had some rude employees. The help forum details page is totally and utterly disabled and all you can do is type in the subject line your query and hope they answer, But you cannot type in the box when it asks for details so I had to type that issue also in the subject line, then one female told me from Google and rudely "funny I'm not having a problem with the help forum pages, nobody else is either" something like that but snappy... And rude, NOT helpful at all..
I'm wondering if Google knows their employees do this because frankly I buy goods and services quite often, its enough to cause me to go somewhere else and even spend a little more for nicer helpers... Anyway... I did all steps over there, Nothing restored my gadgets.. Nobody helped over there EXCEPT to say its all Firefox's fault.
So that is why I am here... To get help.. no settings over at Google or Firefox have I changed.. But Google did go down nearly 2 weeks ago with ALL blogs, many hundreds lost some important posts. After I spoke with the female it was after blogger came back online.... Then today my settings on myblogger was changed, one minute they are fine, the next they are different colored texts.. The type of background I use there, you have to manually go in to change the background FIRST before you change the text color, both of which I never did and yet someone went in there today to do this.
sorry for venting, very frustrated with service there.. It only stands to reason that if blogger went down and it happens to be exactly when I lost all gadgets etc, that they need not blame firefox for it... YET though blogger came back up the issue with the gadgets and entire iGoogle homepage is utterly still at hand, so I thought to write to their help forum but to get SLAMMED by a female that would be better off doing a boxing match in an amateur event rather then being impeccably a customer service agent that cares about customers and people.
I wanted to upgrade to firefox 4 BUT I heard there were some glitches not worked out yet, and I was worried not knowing if since I'm already having a glitch problem if it would make it worse to upgrade.
so firefox is not loading right, it is also not showing Persona.. And iGoogle is not working right either, not sure if Google and you have a connection but they keep saying its all Firefox's fault.
can you help me? I hope so... I love firefox and I had to use Opera today only because it was so bad that I had no choice.. Opera works fine but its firefox that I want..
    take care,

I wish it were that but a long time ago when I had a problem with the gadgets with iGoogle back 6 months ago thereabouts I was asked to disable it then and I did and I just went to re-check and it is still not enabled, however, it will not let me un-install it though.. It only gives me an option to enable or disable.. Any advice ? So I'm wondering if it is something else still or is there a problem with the avast still ?
thanks again for your help. Mind you that this all started when blogger went down ..
    take care

After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start! When I start FireFox the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" opens as if FF just crashed??? One thing I suppose you could do is select only those fonts you've got in Tools -> Options -> Content -> Fonts and Colors -> Advanced and then uncheck the '''Allow pages to use their own fonts''' option.

  • Tumblr breaks advanced font settings in Firefox, all Win and Mac versions

tumblr.com and tumblr.com/dashboard do not support, or break, the ability to choose your own fonts in Firefox. The problem affects Firefox 12-14 on Windows OS, and may also affect Firefox for the Mac.
The problem: unchecking the option "allow pages to choose their own fonts" does not produce the expected result; the user font settings are ignored by tumblr. There is already extensive documentation of the problem in the forums including screen shots and font info.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/932614?s=font+override+ignored+by+website&r=2&as=s
The problem is easy to recreate.
The mystery is: how is tumblr screwing up ''do/do not allow pages to choose their own fonts'' in Firefox? Is it a problem in CSS? Something else?

I can make Firefox use the selected default font on Linux, so it is possible.

  • Missing Fonts and Embedding Fonts

I've run into some strange behavior using Flash Catalyst, and I can't seem to find a solution.
I've created a project that uses a custom font. The font displays just fine in the design window, however whenever I open the project it says the font is "missing". Yet the font still shows up in the font list and is properly installed in my font directory on OSX.
Additionally, when I deploy the project to the web I select "embed fonts". When I load up the website, the font initially appears correctly, however hovering over or clicking on the text buttons changes the font to a default font in a very strange and unpredictable way. Here's the website for reference: http://www.neighbors-film.com
I believe this is related to FC being unable to find the font file, however I'm not sure how to tell it where the file is located.
    Any suggestions?

    Hey Mykill G,
To use preflight tool, you might need to go to Tools > Print Production > Preflight > PDF fixups > Embed fonts >Edit
Then, Edit Profile window will appear. In this, select Fonts under Embed fonts category and click 'unlock' from the right hand side.
You can now click on 'Add' button to add the desired fonts.
Also, You might check font permissions for Acrobat at the following link:

Please let me know whether your query is resolved.

  • Firefox 4.0b1 and b2 rendering incorrect weight of some fonts

Firefox 4.0b1 and b2 rendering incorrect weight of some fonts
The first thing I had noticed when I upgraded from FF 3.6 to 4 beta 1 was that Firefox was incorrectly rendering fonts as bold. After some digging I found out that it was the font-family:"helvetica neue" line in the css file that was causing the ugly bolded font (black weight, actually). After editing the css to "Helvetica 55 Roman", the font displays okay.
    Example site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/?browse=featured
The thing happens in the very mozilla addons site.
Also have noticed that the same bug occurs on different fonts, where the font name in css is specified in alternative namings, as in "나눔 고딕" for NanumGothic (korean font).
The bug didn't seem to have fixed in beta 2, nor could I find any other thread/document on the web with the same problem. I doubt it's my own problem, since it worked just fine in older versions and I have the very same font files installed since the start.

    == This happened ==

I sympathize with you all, and I spotted Kimatg at the Bugzilla forums. My Firefox 3 is all right with Helvetica and Neue Helvetica in PostScript, TrueType and OpenType. However, my Firefox 4 Beta 7 through 9 goes nuts.
Compared to the situations above, all I can say is: at least you are getting your pages in the right font family or even in the right typeface. Attached are some pages in Helvetica that my Betas are showing. They don’t even come close to ''a typeface'', let alone Helvetica.
It’s not just Helvetica. Our in-house Arial substitute, Lucire, is also displaying oddly on some pages unless the font is embedded.
Cor-el, I know you are one of the most helpful folks here, and I thank you for your continued generosity. I have to make one correction to your statement: PostScript on Windows generally does not have a bitmap component, unlike on a Mac where it had suitcases. So all these fonts are vector-based.
It shouldn’t make a difference to Firefox’s rasterizer anyway, but, for some reason, on 4 Beta, it does.

I then check in to facebook to find that page is totally different with regard to font size and form size . the games i play on there are now un playable due to the size of screen that i am used to .
i have tried changing settings on firefox to a reasonable size font and yes on some of the pages i visit regulary they are fine but still not the way i want it .and facebook well just looks horrible. i would like my fonts and pages i view to look the same as they did the night before the update. i am now running 22.0 i believe .

  • What do I need to do to my CSS to make the Georgia and Verdana fonts on my website show correctly in Firefox?

Why does my website's css font styling not look right in Firefox but looks right in Explorer? What do I need to do to my CSS to make the Georgia and Verdana fonts show? Right now they show as Times Roman in Firefox. I tried using all the font attributes combined in a single font property and then I separated out the font-family, font-size, etc. and neither way made them look right in Firefox.

  • Firefox recently updated and with that, now my Word application (icon) is missing. I want it back! Thank you!

Firefox recently updated and now on my web browser page my Word (Office 2007) application icon is gone. I would like to have it back but don't know how to do that. Previously there was an option in View and Toolbars where I was able to choose Word, but I can't find that option now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks very much.

  • Where can I find bold and enlarge font that was available before I downloaded new firefox version ????

where is the toolbar that let me bold and enlarge font ?????

You can right click the tab and choose "Close Tab" to close a tab.
Some menu entries are hidden by default and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu.
You can see the difference if you use Alt+F or Alt+B to open the "File" and "Bookmarks" menu and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by pressing Alt or by pressing F10.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

I am a bit having trouble with my terminal font. I used to have a problem related with fonts and firefox but had it resolved. Here are the screenshots between the monaco and bitstream vera sans mono font:

    and
    URxvt*font: xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:size=8
    URxvt*boldFont: xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:size=8
And for font related settings, I just followed the one from the wiki :
    Xft.dpi: 96
    Xft.antialias: true
    Xft.rgba: rgb

Look at subpixel rendering and some of the troubleshooting sections. Post back if you have difficulties with it.
