Firefox mistakes the address bar as the search bar.

Everytime I go to do a Google search, I begin typing and all of a sudden, my text stops showing up in the search bar and begins to show up in the address bar. This also happens when I'm searching on YouTube and when I try to copy a link from the "Share" tab on a video, it automatically jumps to the address bar. Firefox seems to think it's now Google, I guess? It only does this on websites run by Google.

  • How to make Firefox open the search results in a new tab instead of on top of already opened page?

When I do the search through the search window on the top right corner, the search results open on top of the page I'm viewing at that moment, instead of in a new tab, so I have to keep remembering to open a new tab before each search. How do I change this, that the results would open up in a new tab?

  • Change firefox icon in address bar

I'm attempting to customize firefox to look like IE, don't ask why, trust me I don't want to. But anyway, I downloaded FoxE9, that kinda customizes firefox to look like ie9, which I think its the closest I'm gonna get.
Only problem Im running across is the firefox icon that is in the address bar on the left side, I think its called a favicon?
Is there any way to change or remove it? Also this is firefox portable version 26.

That isn't a correct action for the URL bar.

  • Firefox 29 - transparent address bar

I have just upgraded to Firefox 29 and have managed to change the controls so it looks like the old version but I am unable to work out how to make the address bar and navigation buttons section transparent like they were before. Is there simple way to do this in Firefox settings or about:config or will I have to get an extension to restore this?

I tried the add-on but it made the navigation buttons transparent too so you could hardly see them and there was no separate setting to make the buttons properly visible.

  • FIrefox 20 - make address bar larger

Hi, I don't mind most the UI changes in Firefox 29, and am happy to adapt to the new interface. The only issue I'm having us that the address bar is too small. I am a web developer and constantly looking at URL slugs, and I need the address bar to be more visible. Is there any way to make it larger to see more of the URL? I also DO NOT want to rely on the "Classic Theme Restorer" addon. I use minimal Firefox addons , and I don't want to rely on a 3rd party addon, I would really just like to know how to increase the address bar length in Firefox 29 WITHOUT addons. As all I see right now is the SSL information an the first 10 characters of the URL, most of which are "https://ww", this is not very helpful for my use case.
    Thank you,
    --Tony

Nevermind, I "reset to default" and now it's all better now. :)

  • Shorten firefox 33.1 address bar for longer bing bar

earlier versions of Firefox had "spacers" to add to accomplish such things. They are not to be found in the present version, at least not by me. Thanks, George Kunkel

You can place the mouse pointer between the location bar and the search bar and it will become a resize icon that you can drag right or left with the left mouse button pressed to change the relative width of the location bar and the search bar.

  • Firefox 4.0 address bar shortcut - used to be F6 in older firefox versions, what about firefox 4?

    Hey guys,
pretty much wat i;ve asked in the question bar,
Oldre firefox versions would let you type in an address by hitting F6 but what has this been changed to in firefox 4? I;ve tried various button combinations or has this been removed entirely?

There is a bug report concerning this, F6 will not work with tabs on top.

  • Address bar google search does not open in the current tab

When I do a address bar google search, the search window does not open in my current tab (which is usually a newly blank tab window), instead it opens in a previously opened tab window (or sometimes even a new tab), but never does the search appear in the current tab. When it does this, it ofteb replaces a web page which I can no longer view it without going backwards.
The only fix I have found is to open a new tab and go to Google's web page and search from there. But, this takes extra time and I have to remember to do this. Otherwise, I might lose web pages I wish to view.
This never used to happen until recently. I have a Mac using Lion for the past year.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Anna

I appreciate your input, but I don't want the google web page to open in a new window.
Instead, I want to search using the address bar in using google to open the search in the tabbed webpage I am viewing, rather than open another tabbed webpage. When it opens in a different tab from the one I am in, it either creates a brand new tab, or more problematically, opens the search in an tabbed window which has an existing webpage I still want to access for viewing.
This is a Firefox issue. Address bar searching works as it should in Safari.

  • I used to write e.g. "onet" in the address bar and firefox opened page "onet.pl". After reinstalling Windows it only moves me to Google. How can I change it?

    Thank you in advance!

Firefox's address bar ("location bar") has an "autofill" feature based on your history. Once you've visited onet.pl the next time you type onet Firefox should suggest that location by pre-filling it in on the address bar. Is that not working? Does it work for .com sites or not for any sites?
Or if you meant more generally that you want to type a word and have .pl added to the end, then you can change what Firefox does with address bar entries by disabling the search feature. Then Firefox will use a "fixup" procedure instead. This change needs to be made in about:config. Here's how:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''keyw''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''keyword.enabled''' preference to switch it from true to false
    (4) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''fix''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (5) If the '''browser.fixup.alternate.suffix''' preference isn't .pl you can double-click to edit it

  • I can't get Google (word & icon) to load in the search bar on my home page. How can I fix this?

Starting a few weeks ago every time I load my home page in Firefox (v20) the search bar, next to the right side of the address bar, comes up what I call blank. It's just a small blank sheet of paper with the upper corner turned down. What should be in that search box is the icon and word "Google". When the icon and the word Google doesn't load I can't type any web address in the address bar and change to that web site. Also, when I bring down the menu of previous web addresses from the address bar and click (highlight) one of them nothing happens either. I have tried about everything I can find on this or that I can think of and so far nothing has worked. Once in a while I might get the Google icon & word to come up like it's supposed to in the search bar but it won't stay. It might last the rest of a given evening but the next time I bring up my home page it's gone. I really NEED help on this.
Thanks for any help or suggestions for this problem.

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • The search function doesn't work in Firefox 4.

When I go to Firefox home, the search box appears but does not work. MY OS is Windows XP.

There were some changes in Firefox 4 default settings for some of the warning messages. You can set this hidden pref to what you want, to give the warning when closing multiple Tabs. <br />
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # ''If you see the warning about accessing those prefs, you can confirm that you want to access that page.''
    # Type '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''' in the '''Filter''' line at the top, and that pref will appear. If its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''.
    # Then restart Firefox.
You can repeat that for these 3 preferences - '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning''', if you want to change those too.
