Firefox needs to be opened twice

A few days ago I noticed that Windows would boot, I'd double click on Firefox as usual, and although the egg-timer came up Firefox didn't load. I thought "maybe I hadn't double clicked". But it happens every time, and this morning I noticed that firefox.exe appears on the processes list when I do this, then it disappears. It's not causing any harm that I can tell because if I try to open Firefox a second time it works fine. What's going on here?

My sincere apologies - I'm getting old!
This is EXACTLY the same problem I had some time ago which I asked about in this community. I found the solution then and it's the same now. Adblock!
I'm sorry to have wasted anyone's time.

  • Why is it that when i click on a email which takes me to firefox and then it opens twice everytime

When I'm in my email and want to go to a web site that is in my email. I will click on it's link to take me to that web site. When I do that firefox browser 4.0 will open once and then be hind it firefox opens a new browser for the same link. SO there are two browsers open to the same web site. What can I do? I know that if I uninstall it, it may delete all my info. Can anyone help with this problem?

Please re explain your problem. It isn't very clear.

  • Safari/Firefox need to Cmd+Q twice to quit.

No big deal, but it's bored.
It has been a long time, everytime I quit the Safari or Firefox, few secs later, the icon on the dock jumps again - the browser starts again. And I need to Cmd+Q one more time to quit it.
Someone told me to delete the .plist file of the browser, but it works only a few time, and the problem comes back soon.
Is there any way to fix it? Thx!

See my reply to your other thread....your hard drive is failing.

  • My tabs will not restore after starting Firefox -- even with the option to restore my tabs and windows is checked in the "options" window. I'm losing tabs from previous sessions that I need to keep open every time I need to restart. Thanks for any advice!

Is there something else I need to tweak to get rid of this annoyance instead of simply clicking the check box? I'm losing tabs from previous sessions that I need to keep open every time I need to restart. Thanks for any advice!

Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the <i>Browsing History</i> when you close Firefox.
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • After updating Firefox, each time I want to use links, for instance out of emails, I need to separately open Firefox. Before the update, Firefox opened automatically when I used links from emails. How come?

I work on Apple MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.7
Also each time I open Firefox a small window opens as if I have to install Firefox again.

@Naiks, having suffered through unsuccessful synching attempts for Calendar and Contacts myself, l would suggest you try the following:
UNINSTALL iCloud control panel from your PC. Seems silly, but do it.
Go into Outlook, and look at the very top menu. Click FILE, then ACCOUNT SETTINGS, then click the popup box.
You will see a list of all your email accounts. Make sure that ONE of them has a checkmark against it. If not, select the account your want as your default, and click "set as default.
Exit out of Outlook and reboot your machine.
Now reinstall iCloud, check CALENDAR and CONTACTS, and do as instructed when prompted.
Reboot for good luck and now launch OUTLOOK. All that remains is to locate your iCloud Contacts and Calendar files, and make them your default.
IMPORTANT: Don't panic if you can't find your contacts -- they're there. Click CONTACTS and you'll see you have several available contact files. Locate the one label "iCloud" in grey type. Right-click on it, select PROPERTIES, then click the Outlook Address Book tab. Check the box that says something like "Make this my default Outlook Address Book." Keep clicking "apply" and "okay" until you've exited out of the dialog box maze.
You may have to do something similar with your Calendar files. I dd not, but if you need to, do it.
Everything should now sync pretty seamlessly.
I didn't have the exact same problem as you, but my dilemma was close enough. Good luck!

  • Firefox opens twice in background then freezes

When I am running Firefox 4.0, it munches about 250 mb of memory. Nevertheless it runs for about 20 minutes then suddenly will not open any more web sites. When I open my Task Manager '''I can see that firefox.exe 32 has opened a second very small instance of itself'''. If I close this instance, Firefox shuts down and works just fine when I re-open it.
What is causing this? It is very annoying.
P.S., I have also noticed that if I run Firefox of a RamDisk this does not occur.

Firefox opening twice was driving me nuts till I found the answer
I have firefox in my quick launch so when I double click as usual it opens twice..but if I single click it opens once...I even tried click 3 times and yup three firefoxes opened up..I also have firefox on my desktop..double click from there and it opens once...hope this works for you

  • Hello, I've recently upgraded to 6.0.2 and find when I have closed my firefox browser it wont open again. I am told firefox is still open and it needs to be closed or I have to restart my pc again. I am operating Windows XP

I am told Firefox needs to be closed before I can access it again. Firefox is already closed so I have to restart my desktop. This problem didn't arise with the previous version of Firfox.

  • Firefox & Safari refuse to open pages

Just about every day, or twice some days, firefox and safari do not let me open web pages.
Firefox gives me a popup message that says: You have chosen to open which is a binary file from google.com Would you like to save this file?
    Safari says: redirect server:rapidlogic/1.1MIME-version:1.0 Connection:close Content-Type: text/ html location: http://launchmodem/redirectBS.htm
I use Bell South as my ISP
I have to reset safari, clear the firefox cache, quit both programs, reset my modem, and restart my computer to get the pages to open again. Sometimes I need to do it twice before it stops giving me those messages.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    Well, that's good news!
    What you did...
DNS is short for Domain Name Services, that's what the computer uses to go out on the internet to particular Servers that hold this info, and when you put apple.com in the URL bar, it goes out to one of those numbers and finds that apple.com is actually the number 17.254.3.183, which is what the computer needs to use to get there. Sort of like you looking up a phone# in a phone book, you find rthe name, it tells you what number to dial!

  • Firefox 17 crashes when automation testing is run. But works properly in Firefox 10. It opens many tabs while running and it crosses 50.

    Hi,
When we run automation testing of our product, it works well in firefox old versions and IE. But when we run it in firefox 17 it crashes. We noticed that in firefox 10, each task in automation was opened in new windows and ran smoothly. But in firefox 17, each task opens in new tab and the number of tabs opened crosses 50 and finally crashes. We tried with various troubleshooting methods discussed in your blog. But no help.
What is the change in firefox 17 that it makes each task opened in new tabs?
Or what is the setting we need to set so that each task opens in new window?
We have hundreds of test cases.
This bug is a blocker for certification of firefox 17 for our product.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

Suddenly Can't Open PDFs in Firefox. Starting about three days ago firefox will no longer open any PDFs. I get a blank page in a new tab. Nice timing, with finals and everything where I need to view PDFs of practice tests.

Mozilla Firefox did not do their job, here. I am an editor and am constantly online. Now, I have to go to Safari to download PDFs. I reinstalled an earlier version of Firefox to get rid of the problem, but somehow Firefox has deactivated my PDF download feature. This is a total wreck and I am so angry I could spit. Stop launching new products until you have fully tested them. Customers are not your guinea pigs. Please fix this now- and fire a few idiots on the way- the ones who let this happen.

You can use the -no-remote command line switch to open another Firefox instance with its own profile and run multiple Firefox instances simultaneously.

  • Extra Firefox transparent window stays open in WIndows 7

    Hello,
I am using Firefox 35.0.1 and just today something strange has started to happen.
In my task bar when I open Firefox as I am sure you know, an icon appears in the lower left. As you also probably know when you open more than one window you can see a window behind the first icon indicating another window is open.
Each time I open Firefox, an extra window opens that I did not open so if I opened 2 windows the icon in the task bar has 2 pages behind it, if I open one window, there is a page behind the icon. When I mouse-over that extra icon in the task bar the thumbnail image that shows is of the upper left hand corner of a browser window but you only see 250 pixels to the right and maybe 200 pixels down, so you see File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help and a bit of grey and down you see the url window and a small part of my homepage which is google. Well actually what you see is just white and I assume it is that part of a google homepage but who knows...Anyway, if I move my mouse over that thumbnail image what appears on the screen is an 800 by 600 transparent box...
Also, if you click on the thumbnail to call this window to open, the shadow box goes away and there is no window anywhere to be found. And, the window will not go away unless I close all Mozilla windows, I cannot close this window if I click the red 'X' in the thumbnail.
I have tried to take a screen shot to show you and something even stranger occurs...When I take a screen shot there is no shadow but an image of the other browser window that I did open, so whatever page I am on in the other window appears in the transparent box. Sometimes you see the whole window but sometimes the picture catches a browser window in the process of opening to full size, please see pictures one and two.
Explaining this has been difficult, I wish the screenshots actually showed you what i see, I hope I have not driven you crazy with all the details..I have tried to upload my pics which are gif images that are 87k and 38k but the upload doesn't work, the little circle just keeps going around and around and around so I can't get the darn images up here...Very frustrating.
If anyone out there can assist I would appreciate it. Should I remove Mozilla from my machine and reinstall? If so, is there some special uninstall steps I should do to make sure I get all files? Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jen

  • When I try downloading Kindle for PC Windows 8 I get the message "this link needs to be opened with an applicatio"-and I don't know what I have to do

Hi, I have just brought a new laptop running windows 8 and have installed Firefox. My old laptop was running XP and I didn't have a problem running Firefox on it. I am trying to install Kindle for PC on my new laptop but I keep getting the message "this link needs to be opened with an application". I've never seen this message before on any web browser that I have used. I have "googled" the question and some suggestions are:
    > reloading Firefox-no point I've just loaded it
    > downloading through Internet Explorer-which I don't want to do as I want Firefox my browser of choice
    > Some talk of changing profiles-which I haven't a clue about.
Any help in plain and simple English and assuming I have no prior knowledge (I'm a car driver rather than a mechanic) will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

I'm not familiar with downloads from the Windows 8 app store. Have you had problems with any other store downloads, or just this one? Is it an option to save the file?

  • Firefox need long time for start, downloads everytime at starting, reset useles, safe mode works

when starting the firefox.exe or the link, firefox need way too long till opening the window, everytime it starts it starts and cancel a download in download manager,
in safe mode it starts normal, with addons disabled it starts normal, disable the addons else do not work reset dont work either

You said that there was no problem in safe mode? Try this; disable
'''ALL of your add-ons''' and '''ALL your plug-ins'''. See if there is a problem.
If not, pick a few (two or three) items to enable. Keep going like this
until you have the problem again.
