Firefox never suggests printing with my default printer

I'm using Windows 7. I've set my HP OfficeJet Pro printer as my default printer in Windows. However when attempting to printing a document from within Firefox, Firefox always suggests my PDF printer.
It's not difficult to select the correct printer, but I'm wondering why Firefox doesn't behave the way my other programs (Office, etc.) do when printing.

Never seen that before - posting code that shows this behaviour would be handy.
My guess would be that you have an errant VI.Print.Panel to Printer method hanging around somewhere in your code.

firefox 3.6.12 won't print with my new HP P1102W laser printer. The printer will print if I use IE8. Please advise settings tomake firefox print with my new printer . I spoke with HP tech support. We reinstalled all drivers. They adamantly say it is a Firefox issue and you should have some modifications for it.
When I try to print from the internet using Firefox, a dialog box pops up which says "preparing to print." However, it hangs and I have to manually shut it down. Doing this terminates the Firefox session, and it will not restore upon restart. This printer will print files on my hard drive, and if I use IE8, which I do not want.
    Thanks

It must be a Firefox problem, since it works perfectly in Chrome.

  • How can I prevent my "Write JPEG File" vi from printing on my default printer?

I use this VI to create a JPEG image of my front panel, but it always both creates the JPEG image like it's supposed to AND it prints to my default printer.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there a workaround?  Is there another way to create JPEGs?  I've replaced it with the "Write to BMP File" vi, and I'm getting the same results.

  • When using "Print Report" my default printer changes.

    Hello,
I have the need to print two different kinds of reports to two different printers depending on which report it is.  I use the Office toolkit and wire the correct printer for the report using the "Print Report" tool.  However, each time I do this, it changes the default printer in Windows to the printer wired.  I don't want to change the default printer just send the report to the specified printer.  Is there a work around?

    Hi The Q,
a workaround could be to read first which the default printer is, then print your page with the printer you want and then reset the stored printer to default. The information which printer is the default printer can be read from the registry.
    Hope this helps.

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.

    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • Print automatically on default printer without having to confirm

    Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way that an application (for exemple excel of Adobe reader) print without showing the printer popup ? The idea is that when we press print, it does automatically print on the default printer without having to click on OK.
THanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Gontie,
Besides Matteo C said, the file created by Microsoft Office would print directly via default printer without any popup window.
What application did you using to print from.
If it's browser, this thread may be helpful to you:

  • Firefox no longer uses the duplex print featureon my default printer

Firefox has stopped printing in duplex mode on my default printer.
Windows Vista home LaserJet 4000. Works in Word Perfect and pdf files.

i have recommended this procedure because quite a few other users have reported that the printer dialog doesn't show up with firefox 27 and up and avast. many antivirus programs still stay active in the background even if their UI shows them as disabled - so i think it's better to test it by uninstalling avast. after a restart it should be immediately apparent if printing works again in firefox.

  • Firefox is not compatable with my thermal printer, how do I fix this?

When I print my UPS labels using Firefox, it always prints 2 labels. I called UPS to fix this problem and they said it is a problem with my browser, not the printer. I was wondering if something could be done to fix this-because I really hate wasting so many labels.

Sorry, I don't have access to a UPS thermal printer to be able to test that situation myself, but I am curious which preferences are set in Firefox for that printer.
There are two places where you can get that information, the first is Help > Troubleshooting Information - Copy All to Clipboard, then paste to a text program ''(not an option in 3.5.x versions and earlier versions, was new for Firefox 3.6)''. The other is through '''about:config''' and use '''''printer''''' as the Filter at the top.
I would suspect the printer plugin is sending the second command to Firefox, resulting in a 2nd label being printed - especially with that 5-10 second delay being there. My "gut feeling" that Firefox would spit the second page out a lot faster, if Firefox was causing that to happen.
Have you tried opening any of the files for that plugin to see if there are any plain Engilsh prefs that can be changed, or are those files all "machine language" like DLL's appear to be when opened in a text program?
IIRC, the UPS supplied terminal which contained a label printer that we had in the retail chain I worked for in 2000-2004 always printed two labels and we either tossed the 2nd label out or put it one another of the 6 sides of the box.

  • [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

Everytime I print in Libreoffice it complains about me not having set the default printer. Where do I do that in Libreoffice or is it refferring to my setup in cups? Also in systemsettings under KDE4 when I try to manage my printer and I try to set it as default I get the following error:
Der opstod en fejl under CUPS-handlingen: "client-error-forbidden".
EDIT: Fixed by setting default under cups administration.

bkadoctaj : this is actually exactly what I did as well. It works, although there is still a strange behaviour compared to under Ubuntu for instance :
    - The printer wasn't detected, I had to add it from the CUPS web interface
    - Libo complains about "no default printer" although I definitely set it as default in the aforementioned interface
(I use cups-usblp and splix-svn due to my specific hardware)
Hmm, weird... as far as I can tell LibO is using my CUPS-defined default printer as its default.  Thanks for the feedback - you made me glad that I wasn't posting something irrelevant lol.
Possibly a stupid question but your user is a member of the lp group, right?  I don't have anything set for "Allowed Users" in CUPS but you could also try adding your user there.  Curious to hear of a solution if you find one.

  • Why doesn't printing use the default printer?

I have two main printers to use at home and whenever I print a web page, Firefox automatically prints using the non-default printer. If I select the default printer from the drop down list, it works fine. I shouldn't have to select the default printer every time I want to print.

Note that NONE of the replies answer the original question.
The key word in the question is "'''Why'''" and "default printer" refers to the system's default printer.
Why does Firefox behave differently than any other Win app when it comes to printing, ALWAYS use the system's default printer UNLESS the user changes it (''and NOT memorize the choice'').
To put it another way, '''Firefox should NOT always use the last printer selected'''.
'''This non-standard printing behavior should be changed.'''

  • Print action's default printer

    Hi,
I've configured a print action to trigger a custom smartform within CRMD_ORDER. My print action uses processing class CL_DOC_PROCESSING_CRM_ORDER, and method CRM_SRVORDER_EXEC_SMART_FORM
When I execute the action, I get a printout that reads 'PDF status page. PDF file not printed. 128 MB of memory is required to enable direct PDF printing'.
When I checked the output device (LOCM), it is using device type PDF1.
I understand that smartform doesn't allow direct PDF printing, so now I'd like to know.. where do I set the default printer? I don't want it to use LOCM.
I tried doing so in user profile - example, I put LOCL, but when I execute the print action again, the spool shows that it is using LOCM (the one with PDF1 as device type)!
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers, MY

  • IBook printing with Belkin Wireless Print Server

    Hi Guys
Ok, I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am a windows user (groan!, get a proper computer, yes, I know. lol lol) But trying to set up a simple network consisting of three pcs, one laptop all running windows xp/vista and one IBook. Not the best on macs but can find my way round!! All works Ok as far as seeing each other on the network and communicating/internet etc. Have introduced Belkin wireless print server to network and all ok for windows regarding printing wirelessly over the network. However, the IBook I set up as IP printing and set the appropriate address in the ibook printer setup screen. But when printing from the IBook it says the print has gone but it is actually stuck in the queue and never prints. Can anyone help with what may be a simple entry in the setup or is it some black magic IBook setting that evades us windows users??
All help will be gratefully received and promise to look at conversion!!
    Thanks in anticipation of help..........

Your printer is a non-postscript printer and requires a CUPS driver in order to use the network printing protocols which are part of the CUPS system in OS X. Except for Brother, no manufacturer of non-postscript printers is providing CUPS drivers. The printer model doesn't show up because the OS X driver only works for USB. Apple tried to get around this by including open source Gimp-Print (CUPS) drivers with OS X. But very few HPs are supported. You should try HP Deskjet 900 Series, Gimp-Print driver to see if it "might" work.
For PPC Macs, there is another open source driver set that supports most HPs, including yours:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
But, these aren't Universal binaries, so they don't work on Intel Macs. The source code is available, and I think it will readily compile on your Mac, but I don't have an Intel Mac to try that on.
Next issue - print server setup. We don't have auto-setup software, so we have to read the manual closely and decide which protocol to use. If it's IPP (=internet printing protocol, not IP printing) or LPR/LPD, you need to find the print server's queue name (sometimes called port name), and enter that in Add printer dialog near IP address.
There are other ways to do network printing. The Airport Express print server from Apple allows you to use the USB driver because it uses Airport-Bonjour software to redirect USB output, instead of using standard protocols.
    Hope this helps.
