Firefox Nightly Kept insisting on installing same version

I kept getting a message telling me I need to update Nightly, which was strange as I had the latest version which was was working fine. Upon allowing the system to do the update, I lost the ability to use links from Thunderbird to Nightly. Again I received a message saying that my version of Nightly needed up dating, which I did, now I don't have Night as every time my system boots up, it tells me to reboot the system to allow Nightly to finish installing which it doesn't...!!! and now Firefox for some reason will not link with Thunderbird so I am continually copying the link from Thunderbird then having to paste it into Firefox... However every now and again I get the message to reboot my system for Nightly, which after a dozen or so resets is really straining the friendship. I VERY MUCH DISLIKE IE and have always been a great supporter and fan of Mozilla, however guys something has do be done or I you'll loose a bloke who bragg's to EVERY one about how good your software is and and they listen to me, what am I going to do when they start having trouble...???

It is not installing the same version but rather a new update. The Nightly channel gets checkin(s) pretty much every day so therefore it gets a update each day and sometimes even a respin.
Type '''about:''' in the Location (address) bar and you should see a build date in useragent like for example Gecko/'''20121229''' Firefox/20.0 which is Dec 29, 2012.
If you really want to continue to be a Tester on the unstable Nightly channel then perhaps you my want to follow the daily "The Official ... builds" threads in [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23 Firefox Builds section at mozillaZine forums].

  • Can't re-install same version of Safari

Safari wasn't launching at all on Tiger 10.4.11, worked fine until now. Restarted computer, trashed the Safari prefs, etc. No go. I Trashed the app with AppDelete. Downloaded the same version 4.1 for tiger and dialogue box said that a newer version is already installed on this volume. Newer version ? I trashed it and it is the same version I want to install. Now I had to resort to Firefox until this is fixed. What files of the trashed version are still lurking in there ?

    HI,
If you are running either v10.4 v10.5, follow the instructions here to do an Archive and Install.

  • Firefox will not update after installing new version

I have repeatedly updated Firefox (both by updating and by uninstalling completely and re-installing a fresh copy of the latest version) and when I go to HELP > ABOUT FIREFOX it shows I have version 6.0.2
    BUT
SEVERAL sites (including Mozilla.com) give me pop-up notices saying I am using an outdated version of Firefox and need to upgrade. Firefox on this PC even looks and acts different than it does, for example on my other Windows 7 PC (which also has v 6.0.2)
HOW can I get Firefox to actually fully update itself and not only report that it's the latest version (I see that in the config it's reporting v 3.0.11) but to act like the latest version?
Like I said, I have tried uninstalling it completely and installing a fresh copy downloaded from Mozilla.com.

Your User Agent used to post with is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 FBSMTWB
    See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/new?title=Web+sites+or+add-ons+incorrectly+report+incompatible+browser
Check the '''general.useragent''' prefs on the '''about:config''' page.
You can open the '''about:config''' page via the Location (address) bar, just like you open a website.
    Filter: '''general.useragent'''
If any '''general.useragent''' prefs are bold (user set) then right-click that pref and choose '''Reset'''.
It may likely be due to the FBSMTWB on end of your useragent that the Fast Browser Search toolbar extension you have now or had and it added on to UA.

  • Installing same versions of Frame maker on one system (7.0 and 7.2)

I am using Frame maker 7.2 for creating user manuals. The tool we are using for generating OLH is
Web Works Publisher for frame maker 7.0. Currently I have installed FM 7.0 and WWP on virtual machine
while I work directly on FM 7.2 version and only use 7.0 from Virtual machine while creating OLH
This is a very complicated process as I have to copy all my files into the virtual machine folder
    and then create Help files.
Can we install both 7.0 and 7.2 version on the same system (not virtual)
so that when I document the manuals on 7.2 fm, I can close the files and open the same file in 7.0
    versions to generate help files.

Yes, you can have multiple versions installed on the same machine. I have one that's running 7.2, 8, and 9... no problems.
As far as 7 and 7.2 go, if it was me, I'd just go with 7.2. There isn't a difference in the file format, so files can be opened with either version. And 7.2 is more stable, has fewer bugs, and better import/export filters.

  • Cannot use Real player with latest Firefox, so I had to install older version. Do you have a fix?

    I have Windows 7 with a 64bit system.

There is nothing you can do about it. The iPhone 3G was discontinued almost 3 years ago now, and tops out at iOS 4.2.1. You can not update it to anything higher and most developers have dropped support for iOS 4.2.1. Many have dropped support for anything prior to iOS 5.
Hopefully, you didn't spend too much for it.  If you want to run most current apps, you'll need to buy a newer phone.

  • I need language dictionnaries for spell checking/correcting. I have firefox nightly v.27.0a1. Should I keep this version and wait or go back to classic firefox?

The French and Arabic dictionaries seem to be not compatible with firefox nightly. I have the latest version: 27.0a1. Will updates be made in the coming future to fix that?
    Many thanks by advance!
    A loyal firefox user.

Do you confirm that I should download and use firefox "classic" version instead of nightly to be able to install the French / Arabic dictionary add-ons for spell checking/correcting when writing in the browser?

  • Why can't I restore the same version IOS that's on my phone?

My iPhone 4s has apps on it that are not iOS 6x or even 7x compatible. iTunes/Apple won't let me restore the same version of iOS 5 that is currently on my phone that won't boot up. I have no options anymore except to pay.
    1. I can pay a developer to migrate the app I use for work to iOS7 and eventually run into the same problem later and pay AGAIN.
    2. I can ditch Apple (because there is no logical reason for this) and pay to go over to a Google phone and pay to migrate my app over to android but have the peace of mind that I won't be forced to do what android wants me to do anymore.
I bought an iPhone, an iPhone 3G, an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4S. I don't like using the latest and greatest because I only really care about doing what *I* want to do with *MY* phone. I don't like being told I can't have what I've been using for the past 2 years because Apple has changed a policy or something.
Is Apple doing ANYTHING for people like me or are we just screwed? Can anyone explain why Apple would disallow reinstallation of an iOS i've been using for years now?

if you're saying the default function of 'restore' has always been update to latest for your device you'd all be correct.. but that's not what i'm talking about. shift+click restore and you'll be prompted to browse for your firmware. since the dawn of the iphone (ask anyone that's actually used this feature) you have always been able to use this feature to install same-version ios as to what version is on the device. in the past it was more open, allowing you to update to any version above the one you're on, but that was taken away back in IOS3.. for example.
i'm sure for the average user who has no idea what version ios they use or want this would be completely transparent so i don't really blame you for not knowing or using this feature. for others like me this is a big deal. hopefully someone else who is on the same page as i am will chime in..
i think it's a little crazy to force your users to only use the specific version ios you want them to. have you tried ios7 on an ipad2? hello lag. there are more reasons than mine to want to be able to control what software runs on YOUR hardware.. think about it.

  • I had the same version of firefox before. but dueto a problem i uninstalled it. now i installed it again and i want to recover my old passwords.

i had the same version of firefox. but after adding yahoo messenger to my computer, it added a toolbar in my firefox and i was unable to remove it even after whatever i did. now, i got the same firefox and i very barely want all my lost passwords. is there any way for it? (i had a master password and i remember it)

Did you remove your personal data when you previously uninstalled Firefox?
If you did then your Firefox profile folder with your personal data including saved passwords was removed.<br />
If you kept your personal data then Firefox should have picked up that profile automatically.

  • Firefox previously worked fine but after installing new version does not open. Opens in the same day that I install it but not after restarting computer.

I just installed the new version of firefox. My firefox worked fine with the previous version. But the new version only works on the day I install it but the next time i start my computer it does not work. It does not open after clicking the icon. I even uninstalled it and then reinstalled it but again the same thing happened. I have no idea about plug ins etc. but I did not install any new ones.

This is a very interesting issue. Let's start with trying [[safe mode]], [[managing profiles|new profile]], and [http://firefox.com/all-older.html installing an older version] - if one of these works, please don't do the rest and reply here.

  • Firefox new install on XP, problems trying to get same-version-Firefox old W2K profile to run.

I'm moving from a W2KproSP4 (Win2000, Windows 2000) machine to an XPproSP3 (WinXP) machine. I was running AVG 9.0 and Firefox 3.6.7 with FireFTP, NoScript, WOT, and screengrabber(?). I installed Firefox on the XP machine, launched it to create a profile, and closed it. I copied the old profile folder contents into the new one.
On launch: "Malformed file" "Firefox could not install this item because "install.rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem." (This error disappears in Firefox Safe Mode.) Install.rdf is on the old drive at \Program Files\AVG\AVG9\Firefox.
"alert" "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory."
When I click on Tools/Addons, "An error occurred during a connection to services.addons.mozilla.org:443. Can't connect securely because the SSL protocol has been disabled."
I tried uninstalling AVG and Firefox and installing Firefox first. (That helped me with Link Scanner related non-launch on another XP machine.) Depending on which combination of old & new profile files I have, I get some combination of the above 3 errors and not launching at all. (It may show for about 1 second in Task Manager, then quit.)
P.S. I am posting this from my old W98SE machine, running Firefox 2.0 since it won't launch anything newer. I never did solve that mystery.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I am moving to a new O/S

Hi the-edmeister, thank you so much for your time.
I'm proceeding more cautiously now, and trying to get my most crucial info back one step at a time. The situation seemed to be getting worse, so I fell back a ways for a fresh swing at it:
I just restored to a Ghost of the XP before I installed Firefox, uninstalled AVG, and installed the same version of Firefox (3.6.7) as my old computer had. The W2K's old drive is slaved to my new HD, so I have access to the old files in (what is now) H:.
I tried to restore bookmarks-2010-07-24.json from my old bookmarkbackups directory and got "unable to process backup file". (I also tried copying several files to the bookmarkbackups dir and restoring from there, but got the same error message.) Help>TroubleshootingInfo confirms the current profile folder, and the copied JSONs were seen by OrganizeBookmarks>Import-and-Backup>Restore.
Then I copied places.sqlite from the old profile to the new one, but Firefox doesn't see my bookmarks. When I backup bookmarks to my desktop, I get a zero length .JSON file. Is there a trick to making places.sqlite active?
BTW, yes, I've tried to update the Firefox version 2.0 on the W98SE, most recently to 2.0.0.20, but whenever I do, it runs invisibly (is present in Program Manager but doesn't display the window.) I have to uninstall and reinstall 2.0 to have a working Firefox on this beast. Thanks for noticing. That's another topic, tho.

  • O/s Win XP 64 bit - Java latest version installed but Firefox Nightly 64 bit will not recognise it after re-install 3 times & re-loading FireFox, IE does see it

Although I had Java latest version installed and IE and Chrome recognise it, i can't get Firefox Nightly 64bit to see Java. Websites with Java functionality in Firefox report that i need to install Java.
I re-installed 3 times, I cleaned out older Java versions and did all other steps in Firefox help articles.
If I go to Firefox plugins page, its says the only plugin I have is Shockwave. If I select the Java option, it tells me to download and install Java - which I have done before several times.
I have shut down and re-opened Firefox many times to get it to see Java.
Java is installed to c:/Program Files(x86). Is Firefox looking for Java in c:/Program Files ??
The website in question is the nVidea driver download page at http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers, where the auto-detect correct driver function is a Java function. In the end I had to use IE to run the Java function.
    Rgds Jonathan

  • I have 6.0.2 desktop firefox, and want install latest version(11) but keep both

I have 6.0.2 desktop firefox, and want install latest version(11.0) but '''also want keep both versions''', what's the procedure?
    may run both same time?
how add a second language total:2:ru/en in firefox 11...?

    Hi lse123,
The first thing to explain is that older versions are not secure and not supported, therefore they increase the risk to your personal data and your computer system. Of course if you are running on a secure intranet, &/or have bare metal backup procedures in place that may not be a concern.
Secondly running multiple versions is probably considered an advanced topic, and not something the standard user would need to do, but it is all relatively easy and simple to do. Just take care, back up bookmarks & settings and be careful what you do with profiles, until you fully understand them.
You may well decide to keep IE (for instance for Windows updates) and then use one of the Firefox versions as a default browser. (will be associated with the .html file types for instance) The ''-no-remote'' command line argument is used to start a further instance of Firefox and allow it to run simultaneously. This option is not used for the version chosen as the default browser.
To do this successfully you need separate unique profiles for each Firefox version. Remember bookmarks & settings are contained in these profiles. Take care with profiles, use only empty folders for creating the new profiles (otherwise deleting profiles will destroy other data) and it is probably sensible at least initially not to delete or rename profiles, choose distinctive names (maybe not the version number, that could change if you upgrade - remember he 6 week rapid release cycle.) Presumably you are also aware of the Aurora, Beta & Nightly channels.
You will need to choose the custom install option when installing, or you will just overwrite each install in turn.

  • Plugins that i know are compatible in version 7.0.1 are reporting as not compatible when i try and install then in the same version running inside of VMware.

    Greetings ..
I am trying to run Firefox inside of VMware Workstation V8 in Widows 7 and Fusion V4 in Mac OS X 10.7.2.
I first tried to restore a working profile backup of Firefox made with FEBE in windows inside of VMWARE, when I load Firefox more that half of the plugins that were working in Windows and OS X natively, are reporting as not compatible with this (V7.0.1) Firefox and will not update to a working version, as in many cases they are the latest version anyway.
Also it is inconsistent, as i have tried several times to install Firefox and restore the profile and each time it is not all the same plugins that are disabled and reporting as incompatible.
I have also tried to do a clean install of Firefox and going to the website and installing the plugins directly, and while i have not tried all of the disabled plugins, I am unable to install plugins that i am currently using in the same version of Firefox outside of VMware that are working and or can be installed when I am not running Firefox inside of VMware.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox 4 wont even start up now. how do i uninstall firefox 4 and install previous version

want to know how to uninstall firefox 4 and install previous version. also where to get download of previous version

Your problem is caused by the Ask Toolbar which you have installed. There are compatibility issues between Ask and Firefox at the moment.
Please do the following to ensure a clean installation.<br><br>
#Use Internet Explorer to download Firefox 4.0.1 from this link: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0.1] and choose "'''Save'''" when you see the prompt. Then save it to your desktop. ''Do not choose "Run"''.<br><br>
#Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (''don't checkmark the box'').<br><br>
#Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox<br><br>
#Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.<br>
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.<br>
Next, click the Firefox button and go to Add-ons, then Extensions. Find the Ask Toolbar in there and click "Remove".
If you would still prefer to use the previous secure version, use this download link instead of the one to v4.0.1: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] Otherwise the installation procedure and removal of the Ask Toolbar is the same.

  • Not really a problem just would like to know if I install firefox 4 beta...will I lose my bookmarks already in my current firefox browers and is that the same for the farmville game bar from facebook

Not really a problem just would like to know if I install firefox 4 beta...will I lose my bookmarks already in my current firefox browers and is that the same for the farmville game bar from facebook

It should not be a problem, as long as you are careful. Note the delete settings option when uninstalling firefox will delete bookmarks etc for ALL installed versions of firefox.
Firefox attempts to retain the profile information, that include bookmarks etc when updating. It may still be prudent to consider other backup methods not entirely dependent on firefox.
The firefox 4 beta will install by default in a slightly different location, you are then able to run either the current or the beta version of firefox. It is recommended you set up a new profile for the new version of firefox. see
