Firefox No Longer Works

Hello, about a week or so ago, Firefox has stopped working. All I get is "Problem loading page: Connection has timed out". This has been my default browser for years and have never had this problem. At first I thought it was the internet connection, but IE, Chrome, and Safari browsers all work. I loaded the upgrade hoping that would fix it, but still no. I also "Reset Firefox" as per Troubleshooting help. That still didn't work. Any thoughts?

hello, normally such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions. please remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.

    Hi DoesFirefoxRespond,
Thank you for your questions. I understand that there is an issue with accessing some bank sites. If you have already disabled Firefox add ons and have still experienced the same issue, please try the following:
    # Open a Private Window and login to the bank site to see if it causes the same issue. It will not use active logins or previous history.

  • Firefox no longer working with Multibox

http://www.liamsmart.co.uk/Downloads/multiBox/ used to work with Firefox. I last tested it successfully about September 2012, with whatever the current version of Firefox was.
I tested it tonight, with 21.0 and it was not working.
It works with current versions of IE and Opera.
I reinstalled Firefox version 20.0 and that does not work either.
I had Firefox version 12.0 on a laptop and it was working tonight.

  • Firefox no longer working with Mac OSX 10.4.11

i'm using Mac OSX 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.6.12. As i understand it any of ur upgrades no longer work with this computer system. ( I tried to upgrade last week and ur site said upgrades no available gfor my platform version. Last week every time i conducted a search (default Google) i was redirected to http://search.creativecommons.org/?q=crossword+puzzles&sourceid=Mozilla-search.what gives? Have I been hijacked? also sites that I use daily are clipped and entire pages are smaller than usual . see www.shockwave.com
If u are no longer supporting Mac users, please let us know in advance or at least post it on ur site. Can no longer use Firefox...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Cmd+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
If you open about:crashes, you should get links to online crash reports. You could post some of the crash IDs for review by volunteers here.
Given the timing, another issue might be some ads or media in the page. There are some add-ons to block such things...

  • Evernote clipper for Firefox no longer works

Since Firefox 18.0 or 18.0.1 (current) on the Mac, the Evernote clipper no longer works, either the 5.4.1 regular version or the 5.5 beta. The dropdown begins to appear but with only the circular progress indicator, which spins forever. The clipper works in Chrome.
I've emptied the cache, removed all Evernote cookies, and reinstalled the clipper a couple of times. No luck. I'm about to migrate to Chrome as my primary browser, but would prefer to stick with Firefox if I can get this fixed. Mac OS: 1.8.2. Clipping to the web version of Evernote.

  • Why does Firefox no longer work with Slate or AIM?

    1. On Slate.com I allow all scripts to run; however, even though most links on the pages work, I can no longer view comments in articles -- the function to open the comments simply does not work.
    2. When I load the standalone desktop AIM program, until Firefox 37 I was able to click the mail icon and go directly to my AOL mail; this no longer works, but instead logs me out of AOL and I have to log in again.
I don't know if these are related, but both appeared when I allowed an upgrade to version 37.

  • Since an automatic update the "Post to Vodpod" button (supposedly developed in concert with Firefox) no longer works, how do I get it back?

The "Post to Wordpress widget from http://vodpod.com/wordpress no longer works after Firefox did an automatic, unrequested update.

The button sounds like it sends a video to vodpod.com but that doesn't match what I see for the extension. The other two extensions came up with a search for vodpod but don't specifically mention vodpod.

  • Firefox no longer works and I can't seem to get it fixed

Over the past week, firefox has stopped working on both my windows xp machine and a windows Vista machine. it tells me I need to restart the computer to allow an upgrade to occur. I have tried the solution on the website to find and delete xpicleanup.dat, but it isn't working. I can't uninstall it, and I can't install a new version. Please help

You'll actually need to order a snow leopard DVD first.  Then you can download mountain lion via the app store.  Confirm you meet the requirements:  http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
If you dont, you might be able to get lion instead.  That's an order over the phone, to get a redemption code.
And make sure you're actually contacting apple:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
You'll also want to confirm your 3rd party apps are compatible before an OS upgrade.  Of course, you'll also want to backup your data.

  • I ran avg today. Firefox no longer works. I tried your solution via avg interface didnt work I have avg 2012. Applications look different. I need omeone to wal

I ran avg 2012. Now Firefox does not work. Checked via support got a download on going to AVG firewall and trying to delete then add then click ... button. It then says go to firefox installation directory(where is that) go to Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ then select firefox.exe. etc. This is where I stopped.
firewall said firefox allowed. Being a nullgeek I stopped cause I dont want to cause any more damage. I also tried uploading newest version of Firefox and that resolved nothing.
I am currently using Internet Explorer.
I need to be walked thru this.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
    See:
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firewalls
Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
    *(32 bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    *(64 bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 18.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox no longer works for many Banks

The whole point of Firefox was that it was customizable.
Now it doesn't work. It doesn't even work on your own pages.
I may as well use AppleSafari or switch to Chrome or Opera.
I hate having to waste my time customizing Chrome, but will seriously consider doing it.
I don't have time to try to get Firefox to work on Bank of America and Citibank. It does work for my Wells Fargo account.
    Google Search also works: https://www.google.com/search?q=Firefox+30+has+become+unusable.&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb
and there are a score of hits.
I echo http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=184258 that FF eats up %CPU
I am sure that one of my favorite add-ons is the problem or that it is one of the security and privacy items that I use. When I was younger I had time and energy to step thru all the add-ons one by one and see which one did not for; now I don't. NightlyTester (add-on) used to provide me with a list of add-ons. Now it doesn't or doesn't under the current regime of Firefox, so, again, a laborious process of listing.
One other issue relating to upgrades and old add-ons. I used to have a long horizontal list of favorite bookmarks, possibly abbreviated to favicons, With the tabs below that were currently open, and the name of the browser on top (because of multiple gmail or facebook accts, I use several browsers.) What focus group did you use to put me back in the unfamiliar territory of the sharp edge of a learning curve? (Yes, ofc, I used Classic Theme Restorer to put things right.)

  • Firefox no longer works on my laptop and I've used it for year.

As stated above, I have been using Firefox for many, many years and it just stopped working about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It can't load any pages.

Although I don't have this problem, will offer my 2 cents. Can't see how a bug would cause this but I'm guessing that you might be running an older version of FF which is no longer supported. Is that the case in your situation? I use 3.6.23.

  • After installing 4 add ons and restarting, firefox no longer works - help!

On my PC running Windows 7, I installed these 4 add ons: Measure it, Web Developer, Colorzilla, and Screenshot, restarting Firefox, and only the home page came up, none of my bookmarks were working. I had to manually type in a web address for anything to work. Then that stopped working too. I uninstalled all of the add ons mentioned, and restarted the computer. Now nothing works, only the browser comes up, but with an empty tab, the home page icon does not work either. HELP!

Well, what seemed to work was I uninstalled another add on I had that had to do with gaming and that seemed to do the trick. Wierd.
    Thanks anyways.

  • My Firefox no longer works, it will not go to any website and offers the message "The proxy server is rejecting connections". I had the same problem in IExplorer but was able to fix it. I did not choose a proxy server, ever. How do I fix this in Firefox?

I changed out my wireless router, from a Linksys to a Netgear. Everything seemed to work fine, but shortly afterward Firefox could not be used to find any websites, and gave me the message above. The same happened with Internet Explorer, but a tech representative for my ISP directed me to the page where "proxy server" was incorrectly checked and it fixed the problem. I don't know where to go in Firefox to find the same or a similar page. My laptop continued to work fine for some time after, but eventually developed the same problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, with no luck, and all desktop shortcuts based on Firefox are inoperative. I just keep getting the message that the proxy server is rejecting connections. Since I did not select a proxy server, I don't know how to deselect it.

No idea what "tried everything" means.
Here is how you troubleshoot a password problem.
Go to your email providers web mail page and verify that you have a working username and password by logging into your account there. If you cannot log in there, look for the link to reset your password. Your email password is administered with your email provider.
Once you have a working password you need to remove any stored passwords in Thunderbird and replace with the new, working password.
From the menu bar select''' Tools-Options-Security-Passwords-Stored Passwords'''
Remove the passwords for the problem account. Close Thunderbird and restart it. You will be asked for a password. Enter the new password.
No menu bar with Tools? Press the '''alt '''key.
FYI: Thunderbird settings are stored in a different file from the program. Removing the program and reinstalling just keeps you busy for a little while and rarely fixes anything. As you have seen the old settings are picked up when Thunderbird is reinstalled.
