Firefox not connecting to website

On trying to connect to my hosting companies support page I get this error
"Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."
Also on Safari I get a message saying it is redirecting to many times. I can log in using my Powerbook with no problem.
I have reinstalled Firefox and cleared all browser history but still have the same problem. I can connect to all other sites with no probems.
Any fixes I can try?

Thanks

That's exactly what I found too, using Safari 5.1 on a MacBook Pro.

  • How can I get Firefox to connect to websites that are not Google sites?

This evening Firefox would not connect to my homepage (BBC) or anything in my bookmarks I tried. However, It would connect to anything Google (eg maps, mail etc), and run searches, but would not connect to any sites listed as the results of these searches.
I contacted my internet supplier, who ran various tests, including emptying history, cache/cookies and resetting to default values of Firefox. But nothing solved my problem. It was fine this morning and showed no problems of this type before. I have the latest version of Firefox. My machine is Windows XP, I have the latest IE that can still be loaded - that won't even connect to Google to search, (but perhaps it is unable to because it is too old?)
A couple of months back I had the computer cleaned/tuned, they replaced mcafee with Avast, but I had no problems accessing different websites. I still only run the free version of this. I cannot work out how to access its firewall settings.
So the problem seems to be that the only sites I can access at all Google sites via Firefox...and Mozilla. I know Google is kind of ubiquitous but how I can't imagine how settings could suddenly become altered to be so specific!

    Strange problem.
Did you try to start your computer in "safe mode", to see if the problem is still there ?
Who replaced your antivirus and cleaned your computer ? Can they help you ?
For the moment, I see 3 hypothesis :
    - a problem of DNS : do you know what it is and where to check them ?
    - a problem of Firewall : do you know how to manage the settings of your's one ?
    - a problem of security : do you know how to check if there are malwares installed on your computer ? You should do this before any other solutions anyway.
If it doesnt' work, try to install Google Chrome, to see if this browser can go on other websites. If yes, it is time to uninstall/reinstall Firefox.

  • Firefox will not connect to websites, it just says "connecting" constantly, but I can access the internet using IE.

For the last 2 days I have had a problem with Firefox. When I start it, one or two pages will open, sometimes 3 or 4, but then if I try to open any more tabs it will just get stuck connecting to it and never go to the page. Once it starts this infinite-connection process, the pages previously opened do not work anymore either. If you try to navigate in them, they will respond the same way. I have tried connecting in IE, and it works. I did upgrade to Firefox 6 yesterday, but I was having the problem before that (which is why I tried upgrading).

I have tried all of the options in that first link you showed and none worked. I also configured my firewall (Windows Firewall) and ensured firefox was in the "Allow" list, which it was. I still have the issue.
I did notice something interesting though. When I first checked the firewall, Mozilla firefox wasn't on the list at all. I had to manually add it and then made sure it was allowed to connect to the internet. Even after I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, I never got one of those windows notifications asking me if I wanted to add a rule for firefox. Checking the firewall settings again, firefox was still absent. I don't think it matters, firefox doesn't work with no rules at all in the firewall, or if I manually add the rule and allow firefox to connect.
    Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help

  • Safari not connecting to websites

I am have problems with Safari connecting to certain servers.  Most of the servers are Yahoo based.  Either it connects, sort of, without pictures and sometimes slowness or it doesn't connect at all.  A while back in the update notes for OS 10.8.1 it said that there was a fix to the problem of Airport express having difficulty connecting to websites with "long addresses".  I am on 10.8.2 and am still having the problem.
I have contacted some of the website hosts and no one seems to know what is going on.  They blame Apple's Safari.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

I started having this problem right after I got my Airport express.  I posted a notice in these forums about not being able to connect my Playstation 3 to it because it was not communicating to the Playstation network, (for the same reason).  I managed to get that working but the Yahoo website problem did not go away.  I also have the same problem using Firefox.
Another person mentioned having the same problem and it seemed they fixed it by doing this:  System Preferences > Network > WiFi > Advanced > Hardware > Manually > MTU: Custom > 1300
I haven't tried this yet because I'm not sure if it will cause other problems, most likely not.

  • IMac not connecting to websites ISP says Ethernet is fine

I shut down my iMac and went away for the weekend Returned Monday night and booted up
Browsers wouldn't load (Firefox, Safari) - just spinning circle for 10 mins then variations of "could not connect to server"
Called TWC service tonight: walked thru System Prefs> Network and Network Utility checks. Ran pings, sent signals to modem
    All in working order
They declared my Ethernet is working connected and sending response pings to them - problem must be the machine, call apple, good luck
Everything in the articles, we already did. Any ideas before I pay for support? I even ran DiskUtility and reinstalled Mac OS Install disk

Assuming you have already removed the ethernet cable, reconnected same & restarted your comp afterwards, try the following suggestions:
#1 - Run Apple's hardware test from DVD #1 that originally came w/your computer to rule out hardware damage.
#2 - Make note of your current DNS numbers.  Add the following numbers by going to:
(NOTE:  The mapping may be slightly different in OS 10.6.7) System Preferences>Network>Show: Network Status>Configure>TCP/IP>DNS Servers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
You can move those #s to the top of the list.
Restart your comp.  If the problem is not solved, you can delete the above #s.
#3 - Trash the following plist files by going to Macintosh HD>Library>Preferences>SystemConfiguration
    com.apple.airport.preferences
    preferences
    NetworkInterfaces
    HOME>Library>Preferences
    com.apple.finder.plist
Repair permissions and restart your computer.  Plist files will be recreated.  Post back the results.
#4 Last resort:  Lug your iMac to your local AS or an AASP.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!

  • Has anyone had any issue with opening a new tab and the address bar not connecting to websites in 33.1.1?

I think ever since we moved to v33, I've been having an irritating issue that whenever I open a new tab that isn't connected to a website yet and try to enter a website address, it won't connect to ANY website. Doesn't matter if I hit Enter to try to make it go, doesn't matter if I click the right-pointing arrow button to make it go, doesn't work. I can go into a tab already connected to a website, type in a new website there and it'll create a new tab and take me to the new website, but not if I use new tab button.
Anyone else had this issue? Any fixes?

Sorry, that didn't help as I'm able to connect to websites, just not in a particular way.
For instance, I am able to type in and connect to websites IF the tab is already in use with a website (i.e. if I were to type "yahoo.com" in the address bar of this tab FF would open a new tab and take me to yahoo.com) but not when it is a completely new tab.

  • My firefox not connecting to internet when in user account but connects on the administrator account?

i am having a system with windows xp service pack 2, having a nod 32 antivirus. i had upgraded firefox recently, the problem is i could not connect internet in user id, but firefox is connecting in administrator account. i am posting this on internet through chrome browser, please help me through this
i am copying all the information which came out in firefox web browser, troubleshooting information

Also worked on 10.4.11. I installed an Airport Express and updated all the software and firmware on my MacBook. After Safari, Itunes store, Google earth could not connect but Firefox was connecting fine. Followed your tip. Disableing the proxies on the Network config does the trick. Very simple but very helpful, thanks.

  • Firefox not connecting other browser working fine

I have tried all possible troubleshooting method describe in your site but unable to connect internet. I am using Norton Internet Security V 20.1.2. Please help me.

  • Firefox not connecting internet, also not in the safe mode. Have tried most of the options, no success. But I need my favorites... It happened after the update on 29/10/10. How can I restore firefox ?

not connecting to internet? no add-ons visible? safe mode does not function?

    Thanks for checking in, BDAQua.
    Problem solved.
In the docs that came with my Powerlogix accelerator card, I found this sentence buried:
"If you reset the PRAM, the NVRAM code for OS9 compatibility is cleared, so you will have to boot from the Firmawre Update CD and perform this process again in order to boot in OS9."
The "process" it's referring to is the process of setting up the NVRAM for booting into OS9 from the CD.
Fortunately, I was able to find the disk, and it worked as expected. I can now, once again boot into OS9.
Conclusion: My (unadvised) attempt to load Leopard on this old machine apparently reset the PRAM on the accelerator card and cleared the NVRAM code for OS9 boot. Although I did attempt to reset the NVRAM via Open Firmware, it did not reset it on the accelerator card.
So, thank you BDAQua, for your "Ah yes" . . . that's all I needed to steer me in the right direction.
    Gratefully,

  • Safari/Firefox will not connect to websites.  BUT Entourage works normal.

For the past 2 weeks both my iMac and MacBook Pro have experienced the same problem. Neither can connect to a website via Safari or Firefox BUT both send/receive email from Entourage. When i troubleshoot the Airport it says all is working properly.
This happens at both my home office (apple router) and downtown office (Belkin).
Ideas anyone? The only software installed lately is for a wireless printer with WiFi. But i don't see how that is relevant.
    Thanks for any ideas!

    Hi. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your problem seems a little weird. Have you tried trashing preference files?
Safari's is located in user>library>preferences and is called com.apple.safari.plist
I'm not sure about Firefox's, but it is probably inside a folder called Mozilla or Firefox.
    Hope this helps

Firefox's may be in the same location as Safari's and could be called something like com.mozilla.firefox.plist

  • Safari (and Firefox) not allowing Netflix website to work

All of a sudden (about a week ago), when I went to watch a movie on Netflix, the website wouldn't work and came up with an error. I have never seen this before and I really don't know where to go from here. The error message reads:
    HTTP Status 500
    Type: Status report
Description: The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.
    Apache Tomcat/6.0.10
I have no idea what this means or how i can fix it. I already called Netflix and they assured me that it had nothing to do with them, but it was my computer/server/browser having the issues. I have also tried to access the Netflix website on Firefox and it doesn't work on there either. I haven't changed anything on my network settings recently either. Please help! I miss my Netflix :/

ok, so let's try to see what the problem is
Look in Applications/Utilities/ for an app named Network Utility & open it up.
Choose the Traceroute tab & paste in netflix.com
you will get a result like the following - paste yours here & maybe it'll show us where things get hung up.
    Traceroute has started…

I have had the problem of Yahoo! mail freezing (my computer freezing) with Firefox right after I boot up my computer and sign into my Yahoo! mail account. I have to either shut down my computer or use Control + Alt and press Delete to eventually bring up the Task Manager option. Then, once the choice for Task Manager comes up, I can click on cancel and Yahoo! mail and my computer have "un-frozen." I have followed all the recommendations for updating Firefox, clearing caches, checking if an Add-On is the problem, etc., as well as all the recommendations on Yahoo! help pages. Nothing has improved the situation to date. Firefox info says the problem is with Yahoo! Yahoo! says it is a browser problem. I just want the problem to be fixed.
