Firefox not saving tabs on shutdown when prompted to

Recently firefox asks do I want to save and quit, I select yes and then when I restart the computer, they are not up.

I've had this issue (or similar) several times, in FF3.6 and also 3.5 and 3.0. All the typical suggestions were no help; deleting the session, checking tabs options and about:config, private browse settings, and un-/re-installing FF. I forgot now if the specific issue was that the 'Save and Quit' dialog doesn't popup; or if it does, but 'Save and Quit' would not save the tabs for the next session. Anyway, hopefully this will help some of you.
The thing that fixed my issue (and this has occurred several times), I found in a couple obscure google searches. Instead of using the upper-right-corner 'X' to close the window; instead go to File (alt-F if you have your menu hidden) -> 'Exit'. Sounds ridiculous, I know; seems like it was related to upgrading b/t major versions (and I've seen a bunch of these posts popup relating to FF4 upgrades now). I've only done fresh installs of FF4 beta, and not seen the issue. Looks like FF4 has added a new config option: browser.showQuitWarning, that would be something else to check.
I thought I'd sent in a mozilla bug report on it, along w/ replying to a few support forum entries, but now I can't find anything relating to it.
To summarize the various things to check with this issue:
1. Check the Options -> Tabs for 'Warn me when closing multiple tab'
2. Check about:config for the above and similar entries (search for 'warn' and 'quit')
3. Check the Options -> Privacy that Private Browsing isn't enabled (or just select 'Remember History' [note-I think this selection doesn't stay; it just changes the underlying options; can be confusing]
4. Simply go to File -> Exit, instead of the upper-right corner 'X' to close
5. Un-/Re-install FF
6. Delete your sessions file [search elsewhere for details]
I'll be copying this to other forum entries...

  • Firefox not saving tabs/windows to reopen next session

Whenever firefox crashes, a page saying "Ooops this is embarrassing" appears, letting me restore the previous session.
However, ever since a recent crash, it hasn't appeared anymore whenever it crashes, and I lost all the tabs I had opened because of that. I tried forcing a crash multiple times and that page simply doesn't appear anymore, whenever I open firefox again all I get is my homepage.
But if it was only that... I have my firefox settings to reopen my windows and tabs from last time when it launches, but it doesn't do that anymore either...
Is there a solution for this?

hello, you appear to be using an out-dated alpha version of firefox - please switch to the more stable release version or firefox 33 beta which contains some improvements to session restore: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/

  • Firefox not displaying buttons and boxes when allow other pages to use their fonts instead of my selection is selected

Firefox not displaying buttons and boxes when allow other pages to use their fonts instead of my selection is not selected. The irritating thing is that Firefox used to display pages until FF 31. Please fix this
    Thanks
    Randy

The missing icons are supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you can probably see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters.
You will have to make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts to see such an icon font.

  • Firefox not loading tabs from last session

A few days ago I set up my laptop from scratch after a long time of not using it. In the process, I set up Firefox Sync to link it to my desktop's browser. This is the only thing I have changed recently. However, after rebooting my laptop, I noticed that whenever I closed the browser and reopened it, it would not restore my previous tabs. Of course the options are set to restore my tabs from last time. Even the manual options to restore my previous session from the history menu are greyed out. And perhaps more bizarre of all, when I click the 'x' button to close the browser, I have to click it twice to close it - clicking it once does nothing. Firefox is the only application experiencing this odd issue.
I thought it was just my laptop and decided it was too much of a headache to worry about for now, since I rarely use that. I've been going about my business as usual on my desktop for the past few days with no issue...until I booted up my computer this morning and found the same situation. None of my tabs (and I had numerous tabs across multiple tab groups that I've been using with no problems for months!!), when I close and reopen the browser it still doesn't remember what was open when I closed it, and once again I have to click the close button twice for it to take. The 'restore session' options in the history menu are once again greyed out.
Everything else appears fine - all my add-ons are still there, and it's still recording my history when I open new pages and close the browser. It's just not restoring the tabs. This is extremely frustrating to me as someone who ALWAYS has several tabs open at any given time. At least on my desktop, Firefox says it's up to date, so that shouldn't be an issue (I thought maybe a browser update could fix it). Is there anything I can do to fix this, preferably recovering my previous sessions in the process? I lost quite a bit and I'm not too happy about that...but even if recovery is impossible, can I at least fix it so it retains my session history going forward? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried all the suggestions so far in this thread and nothing has worked. Firefox has since released version 27.0 and I notice that in this version the session and tabs are restored providing the default settings are used in the options dialogue, (Privacy, history, remember history). Use any other custom setting and the session and tabs are lost on re starting the browser. In other words, some of the options within the history dialogue box are not working.
Firefox is not warning me when I attempt to close multiple tabs, even though the option is ticked.
The search bar on the Firefox home page is not working. Type in search terms, hit enter, and it does nothing.
Opening a new window in Firefox restores the tabs in the new window, but has no effect on the search bar, which still does not function.

  • Firefox not saving passwords, what maybe blocking this pls

I am using firefox 3.6.18 (because it is compatible with my A/V) and it no longer saves passwords. I suspect something may be blocking this; but have no idea.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Websites_report_cookies_are_disabled (Other Solutions)
You Firefox doesn't offer to store password in the Password Manager then check that you aren't running Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
Some sites like PayPal, Yahoo, Windows Live and bank sites use autocomplete="off" to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and the password.
If a site uses autocomplete="off" then look at this article for a bookmarklet to remove that autocomplete attribute and Firefox will offer to store the name and password.

I sent this same complaint yesterday. What I need is someone to contact me to let me know what to do about the problem. I have received NO feedback.

This type of behaviour can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:

  • Firefox not loading tabs from last session + cant unpin tab.

I found a solution that other people might find helpful:
Short version: Do a disk check to fix the error - requires a reboot for the disk to be fixed if the profile is on your windows partition.
    Long Version:
It was a disk corruption that for some odd reason was continuously replacing the sessionstore file with a corrupt version timed and dated at a time when firefox had crashed.
The fix was to go to 'my computer' -> Right click the drive with the profile on -> tools tab -> [check now]
make sure [automatically fix file system and errors] is checked
    Click [start]
    Click [force dismount]
    Click [schedule a check]
    *Reboot computer*
Let the disk check fix the error.
Fixed (if not then close firefox, delete sessionstore.js in the profile folder and restart firefox).

    Hi Kvoter,
Thank you for posting that! If you find yourself looking to answer more questions, you can check out our How to contribute page in the Contributor tools menu of this website.
Thanks again, and I will try this the next time I see a corrupted session restore file!

  • Why is firefox not saving previously stored passwords after upgrade to 33.0, all proper settings to have this happen are selected and were in previous version.

After I upgraded to FF 33.0, none of my previous website usernames or passwords were saved when I browsed them. None! I have looked at FAQ responses and carefully looked at my 'Privacy' settings and they are all set to have FF save user names and/or passwords. My cookie settings are 'remember browsing...history' - 'remember search...history' - 'Accept cookies...' 'Accept third-party cookies / Never - and 'Keep until I close FF'
Do I need to select 'Keep until: they expire' for cookies?
    Tom F.

hello tom, can you try to remove the remember passwords addon (this is now longer needed, since firefox is now ignoring the autocomplete=off parameter in password fields by default), restart the browser and see if this is making any difference?

  • Not saving tabs after reboot

Firefox 3.6 and 5 does not ask to save tabs, or does not open the tabs I had on reboot of computer

I think it was the default with 3.6 to ask you at end of session if you wanted to save tabs, possibly you got your settings changed along the line.
It is not the default to ask you Firefox 5 (and Fx4). What was changed was that you can restore your previous session through the History Menu. The good news is that you can have the old way back to let you know you want the previous session while fresh in your mind. Even better if in the meantime you remember you want the previous session you can get it through History.
see item #31 (#tabslost) in the following
You can make Firefox 4.0.1 look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)]
Part of the problem is that the Firefox developers think that most users use the default home page. (do you know anyone who does, I don't) Makes sense for them to follow along with a standard starting point if there may be a problem.
The about:home (default home page) tells you if you have previous session to restore or about history.

  • Firefox not saving passwords - Mac Pro

    Hi.
I recently had to reinstall my bootdrive and software. Since then Firefox will not save my passwords. I am using a Mac Pro OS 10.6.8,
Firefox is 33.1.1. I thought it was firefox, so I tried Safari and Chrome - same problem. My preferences are set to "Remember passwords for sites". There are no exceptions listed. There are no saved passwords listed either. Under Privacy > History. "Remember history"
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thank you in advance.
    Brian

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history;Use custom settings for history -> Always use Private Browsing mode).
It is possible that there is a problem with the key3.db file and the logins.json (signons.sqlite) file that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.
You can rename the key3.db file (key3.db.old) and logins.json file (logins.json.old) and a possible signons.sqlite file (signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.
If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed.
Otherwise you can rename the files to their previous names (key3.db and logins.json).
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

  • File is not saving in local drive when I run thru AS

When I run my forms in my local machine, I can save my reports in pdf format to my local drive C:\
Now I transferred my forms in the application server. When I run the form and generated the reports, it was saved in server's drive C:\
It's hard coded, I have C:\ as my path to save my reports. But I want it to save in my local drive, not in server. Any idea how to do this?

The Reports Server cannot access your local PC. So, you first need to store the output on the application server (AS) and then copy it to the PC. You can use webutil for this. Search this forum or Google for webutil_file_transfer.as_to_client.

  • Jar file in applet not saved in internet files when using jdk plugin

    Hello,
I recently upgarded to jdk1.3.1 and converted our applet and classes to jdk1.3.1 using swing classes. From there, we converted the html file with htmlconverter and diployed this on the web. When a user goes to the web, the system automatically downloads the java plugins and installs them on the clients maching. From there our jar file loads and executes. Our applet runs fine. However, every time our website is accessed, our jar file cookie must be downloaded which is just over 1meg and I know this is not going to fly with our clients.
What needs to be done so the jar file is not downloaded every time, to work like java version 1.x ?
Thanks for your help in advance with this one.
    Jay Ford

    Hi Jay Ford,
Enable the "Recycle Classloader" in Control Panel-->Java Plug-in1.3.1-->Basic.
The main purpose of this Recycle classloader is it will enable the "javaplugin.classloader.cache.enabled" property to true and it caches the jar files for performance enchancement.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Since upgrading to 3.6.15 some settings are not saved, and the alerts when changing between encrypted content are totally out of synch to the actually occurence

The settings dialog box cuts off the bottom ofthe box content as it seems to be having problems with font rendering.
Settings such as "Show download window" and "Ask me where to save" apparently revert to defaults rather than saving the settings.
The encrypted content alerts are out of synch. They claim to be going from encrypted to non-encrypted when neither page is encrypted. Or warn of non-encrypted content on an encrypted page when the whole page is unencrypted.
3.6.14 had none of these problems.

Update to 3.6.16 has fixed this problem.

  • Safari not saving pages in history when linked from GMail

Ok, no one else is having crashing problems with GMail. Fine.
How about this one... If you click on a link in a message while reading GMail, a new window will open with the destination web page.
Now, if you click a link on that new page, the new location will open, but Safari did not save the original location in the history - the Back button is disabled, and it's not in the History menu.
Now.. where's that "report bug" link...

can you view the source code ( Safari-View-View
Source ) of the main page, to see if it is the
coding that prevents the back/forward & history in
the new windows that are opened ?
I'm looking at an email in Gmail, and it has this link:
    http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/ActsAsTaggablePluginHowto/versions/32
I click on it and that page opens in a new window. In that window, I click on the first link in the body, http://rubyforge.org/projects/taggable/, and that page opens in the same window, but there's no history I was at the wiki.rubyonrails.org page.
Looking at the source for both the Gmail page and the wiki page doesn't indicate any special coding to achieve that. Frankly (I do web development), I'm not even sure how GMail would be able to control the new opened window and how the links would behave - not to mention being able to not store a clicked link into the history.
Needless to say, this does not happen in Firefox or Omniweb.
Well, whatever the problem is, it still exists in the latest version of Safari - from http://nightly.webkit.org/

  • Presentation not saving place in slides when I change layouts. Please help!

    Hello,
So I have a main lobby layout, with a PowerPoint presentation, and at a certain place in the presentation I switch layouts to access information on a PDF. When I click back to my main lobby/PowerPoint the presentation reloads and starts from slide one.
Is there any way to have it save my place in the presentation?
    Thank you kindly,
    John

    Hello,
This should not happen. Ideal behaviour is to retain the slide number before the layout switch. Please give us any specific details that may help us reproduce this as we are not able to reproduce this in-house.
