Firefox not starting after updating from v24 to v32 on centos 6.5
I have updated my firefox from version 24 to version 32 recently released for Centos 6.5 in the official packs, but after updating now firefox is not at all starting.
Even the first screen where it checks for add-ons dependency is also not coming up, what I can see is just firefox starts and crashes within seconds without showing any screen.
I have successfully resolved this issue on my PC by allowing updater.exe through the firewall. This updater.exe is located in the folder where your Mozilla Firefox was installed. The default folder is "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updater.exe"

Problem exists on my HP C0mpaq 6720s , Vista operating system.
System restore, restored to version 3.6.3 instead of 3.6.10 . This did not start either. Previously, I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove all Mozilla items, checked regedit and removed all Mozilla folders, then reinstalled 3.6.11 from your website. Mozilla would not start and XUL error stated 1.9.2.10 followed by min 1.9.2.11 and max 1.9.2.11 . This was the same error report that appeared after the automatic update.
So I am at a loss and without Mozilla .I have successfully resolved this issue on my PC by allowing updater.exe through the firewall. This updater.exe is located in the folder where your Mozilla Firefox was installed. The default folder is "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updater.exe"

ITunes 10.1.2 not starting after update
iTunes will not start after being updated to 10.1.2. Also experienced internet explorer being extremely slow. Tried to repair the installation, but same result. Uninstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, and internet explorer started working again. Reinstalled iTunes from Apple web page. Same result as after update. Everything worked fine before update, no errors during installation.
I have just had exactly yhe same problem.
Try this!
Go to the itunes support page and uninstall / reinstall Itunes + quicktime exactly to the troubleshooting instructions.
It takes some time and patience but it works on my Vista operating system. Windows 7 should also work as the instructions refer to both systems. -
Firefox will not start after upgrade from 3.0.1
I have Firefox 3.0.1. I would like to upgrade to 3.6, but if I try to upgrade to any version, I cannot open Firefox. It is not like the other "Will not start" problems, because in the Task Manager, firefox.exe pops up, then goes away instantly. I have tried using Safe Mode, doing a clean install by uninstalling Firefox and my profile, cleaning the registry, then using CCleaner, then trying to reinstall, but the problem persists. Sometimes firefox.exe doesn't even show up in the Task Manager. I also cannot use any version of IE(even if I wanted to), Safari or Chrome. They all have the same results. I suspect that it is not a problem with Firefox, but with my computer, but I don't what is wrong. Can anyone help me?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I upgraded from 3.0.1Sounds like something is killing off your browsers before they can start. I really have no idea why Firefox 3.0.1 is working somehow, though.
Do a malware check with a few different programs, you need to use all, because not all programs detect the same malware.
For each of these, make sure they are updated after installing, and run a full scan.

Firefox will not start after updating on Windows XP
I have just updated to the most recent version of firefox, 8.0.1, and it simply does not start when i click the icon.
It logs processes in the task manager, but does not actually launch the program.
The solution already listed on this site is not valid for windows XP, because i have no "application data" folder for firefox under my username.
How can i fix this?A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Firefox will not start after updating to version 7.0
Mozilla Firefox automatically updated itself to 7.0. Now, Mozilla will not start on my computer. It shows that it is running in task menu- processes... but not in Applications.

I had this issue with 16.0.0 as well and had to revert to 15.0.0, 16.0.1 worked without issue though.
And now it does it again.
Once I updated and restarted, it reopened the sites I had open except Facebook.com(it was blank), but would not navigate anywhere else, and refreshing did nothing to the pages that were open. Clicking a link made the screen go white(blank) and the refresh button would flash(changing from Refresh to Stop and back to Refresh) quickly.
Of course my internet is working fine hence this post, and both Chrome and IE9 are able to navigate.A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Computer will not start after update. Won't boot. Security Update. Grey.
This is a fix that worked for me. 2 times in the past Automatic Software update has corrupted my hard drive.
When installing using SOFTWARE UPDATE the installer for the security update fails, says it has been moved to trash and to try again. Well if you restart, you get a system hang and much sadness.
I tried the usual stuff, booting from CD(osx) and selecting the disk utility from the top menu. But that didn't fix it. Then I ran DiskWarrior, which usually fixes anything, but it didn't this time.
Here is what did work. I checked my other mac to see what the last security update was, and it had the 2009-001 update (worked on that mac). So I knew now that the one that screwed up was that update.
I downloaded that update to my laptop.
I started my iMac (the one that crashed after update) in "target disk mode" - this treats the whole computer as an external firewire disk drive (it's totally safe as long as you don't erase anything) - you start into target mode by holding down "T" key while turning on, leave it pressed until you see a symbol on the screen that looks like a "Y".
I hooked up a firewire cable from the iMac to my laptop and waited until the iMacs Hard drive appeared on the laptop desktop.
Now you can browse the corrupt drive just like a regular external drive.
If you have an external drive with room, this is a good time to back up the entire corrupt drive to a folder on the other external just in case...
But what I have found is that when the installer for the security update failed, it corrupted the file that mac osx needs to read during boot, so it is an isolated failure, but it is always better to be safe.
at this point you are ready to attempt the repair..
On my laptop I ran the installer for the security update I had manually downloaded from apples site. When asked for destination for the install I select the HD for the iMac (or whatever unit has the no boot situation that got corrupted). (note that if you have not renamed your main hard drives, you will have a choice of 2 with the same name). Usually the drive on the computer you are using will be first in line. Rename the drive on the computer you are using before running the install if you want to be sure there are no mistakes..)
Select the disk you want to (re)install to, and let it go. It is a long update, so be patient and let it finish. It should say preparing install, installing, finishing, and optimizing system performance...
When it says that the installation completed successfully you can eject the corrupt hard drive by dragging to the trash to dismount it. Then unplug the firewire cable.
Shut down the repaired (hopefully) machine by holding the power button until it turns of.
Count to ten.
Prepare a celebratory or misery soothing beverage (but keep it in the other room).
Some people like to start in safe mode by holding down shift key while turning on, but I couldn't get it to work on mine...
Turn the computer back on and wait. The boot process will take longer than usual the first time.
If and when you get to login or desktop, go in and run apple disk utility and repair the disk, and repair the permissions.
If it worked, breathe a sigh, do a happy dance. And from now on when mac os says there are updates available, write them down, then go to apples site, download them manually, and install them manually, one at a time from now on, to avoid hassles.
Hope this helps!
Enjoy! Thanks for the post/tips newfocus, hope it helps somebody!

All games do not start after update to 10.10
Hello,
I updated yesterday to Yosemite and since then all games, that I bought in AppStore (XCOM, Tropico) do not launch. I bought and installed XCOM Bureau after updating to Yosemite - but it doesn't start either. In requirements stays "OSX 10.9 or higher" - so, it should work, but...
Any ideas?
Thanks! If the version is correct under "About this Mac" it's uneccessary to apply the combo update again. In most cases it doesn't help solving issues like that. I chat several hours with the Apple support and find the problem after digging deep into the KB.
The problem in my case was a corrupt IMAP account. I disable my mail accounts one by one by unchecking "Mail" in the System Preferences settings and try to start Mail. Don't forget to enable the account again before disabling the next one. That point us to the corrupt mail account. What I do next is to delete the corrupt account and create a new one. In my case without data loss because of IMAP.
What I do before (without solving my issue):
Reboot in safe mode and starting Mail
Clear NVRAM
Remove all Mail plugins by deleting the content of ~/Library/Mail/Bundles and /Library/Mail/Bundles
Hope that helps.
Thomas
P.S. Thanks to the guys from Apple support who gives me first class guidance to solve this problem. -
VPN not working after Update from SLS to MLS
Hi folks,
last weekend I updated my Snow Leopard Server following the suggested procedure, installed first Mountain Lion and then OS X Server. Now I have a problem.
Setup:
- Macmini Server located in my private LAN, running SLS as a virtual machine (VMware)
- connected to the Internet via an AVM FritzBox 7270
For HTTP (80) and VPN (500, 1701 and 4500) the ports are forwarded to the virtual machine - everything was working well before the update (access to Website & VPN from both internal and external). The VPN connection is used either with an iPhoen or with my Macbook pro.
The website is still working like expected. VPN service is not working properly anymore. I can access it from internal, but not from external.
So, to make it clear, nothing but the server OS changed in the setup.
Any ideas? Changed ports from 10.6 to 10.8?
Thanks in advance,
Andre
(err, and YES, I have a snapshot of 10.6. - if I revert it's working again, but this can't be the solution)Hi all,

Itunes will not start after updating to most recent version...
I updated itunes this evening to load up ios4 on my iphone. After updating, I rebooted and my screen resolution went from 1280 x 1024 to 800 x 600. Then I got a message saying I needed to restart bonjour, so I restarted it. Then an itunes error message came up saying itunes needed a certain screen resolution setting to function correctly (I had already reset it so I thought no more on it).
I can't start itunes now, every time I try I get that stupid "report to microsoft" message. I re-installed it and it keeps coming up. My head is melted, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks! After updating, I rebooted and my screen resolution went from 1280 x 1024 to 800 x 600. Then I got a message saying I needed to restart bonjour, so I restarted it. That sounds as if either iTunes or BonJour has been set to run in an old-fashioned display mode. (Lord knows what caused it to happen, though.)
Let's try checking on iTunes first.
Try following the instructions in the following document, with the one change being that when you get to *step 8,* make sure that *no options whatsoever* are checked in the compatibility mode tab.
Will iTunes launch without the error now?
If you're still getting the error, could you let us know which particular Windows OS you're running? (It sounds like you've got XP, but I thought I'd better doublecheck.) -
[Solved] xorg will not start after update
Hi there,
I updated Arch and when I restarted my computer lightdm did not start. I ran systemctl disable lightdm.service and I was able to boot up to a command prompt and login. I tried to start xorg-server by running startx (my .xinitrc file has exec mate-session in it) and I got an error. Here is my xorg log...

It looks like it's trying to start the nouvea driver. The thing is I'm using the proprietary nvidia driver. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT:
Okay, making progress... I ran sudo modprobe nvidia and my driver loaded. I ran startx and xorg-server started, Hooray! Then my desktop opened and..... froze. Ctl-Alt-F1 did not open another tty, everything was completely frozen. I had to hit the restart switch. Any ideas?
Last edited by necbot (2015-03-27 23:54:13)Okay, I'm not really sure what I did to fix the problem, but it seems to have gone away. I rebooted a few times and had to manually load my nvidia driver using modprobe in order to start xorg-server. My system would still freeze though, then I installed the nouveau driver and started using that and the freezes stopped. I reinstalled the nvidia driver and... everything seems to work fine. I reenabled lightdm service and my desktop loaded with no errors and there have been no system freezes. ????????????? I have no idea why that worked.

59I always recommend migration rather than upgrade installation, for any server when moving across major versions.
That said, please post relevant error messages from your server logs (system and mail),
which you can easily view via the "Console" utility (in Applications/Utilities on the server itself). -
Pages 5.1 not responding after updated from AppStore
I've update my Pages app to v.5.1 in my MacBook Pro and I can't open it after updated. When I open it, it still not responding all time. I've replace Pages app with older version and it can open but I can't open my newer version document that I've edited on New iMac. Anybody can help me? I have to use an iCloud beta now. Thank you
In Pages 5 .plists are now stored within the application bundle.
I will resist telling you to trash any because I am not sure if there are consequences doing so. With Pages '09 it was fine, but they weren't part of the application.
You can validate fonts in Font Book:
select all the fonts > Menu > File > Validate Fonts > turn off or remove those that report errors etc
Also try starting PAges holding down the shift key in case it is simply a damaged Pages file.
