Firefox often reports it's Offline when it's not. Refuses to load a site.

On MacBook Pro with OS 10.6, I try to load a site (from a link in a email, for instance . . . or from my own Bookmarks), and Firefox 3.6.13 stops, reporting it cannot load since I'm offline. Which I'm not. Sometimes (usually), when I click File | Work Offline, then click it again, the page will load.
By the way, I'm also having trouble with my ISP (Verizon) and Mail. The latter seems to have trouble connecting, sometimes through a couple of attempts, then connects and sends/receives with no trouble.

• When using numerous browsers,  i can load any site, except ebay!! What's with that??

I have done all the normal corrections... such as repairing permissions and startup disk.  I have also cleared the cookies and other website data.  Ebay is the only website that I have tried that won't load... Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Camino and Opera... none can open to eBay website...  Other computers and my iphone have no problem using my wifi to load this site.  WTH????

• FireFox doesn't fully close so whenever I reopen it refuses to open secure sites I had up when I closed it; it keeps thinking that the tab is already open and wont open another one. How do you fix this?

Whenever I close Firefox and then reopen it later on it opens the last webpage I had open before closing the browser instead of my homepage. It seems that exiting Firefox doesn't fully shut it down and just puts it into hibernation mode. This has become a problem because when I have a secure webpage open when I close the web browser, without logging out of the page, and then try to go to that page again it thinks that it's already open and wont open another page for me. This means that I can't even navigate to the page to log out. I think it might be just a setting with Firefox 4 but not sure which one, any suggestions?

For possible causes and solutions see Firefox is already running but is not responding.

• Images showing offline when they are not - sequence plays fine

I'm using FCE 4.0 and when I open a project that I've been working on for weeks, some of the pictures in one of my directories are showing as offline.
When I go into that bin and click on an offline photo, it shows me the thumbnail and I some of the other pictures which are offline are now visible and other previously visible pictures are now showing offline.
I can play the entire sequence and everything is available and plays fine. I just can't see the photos to add them to my project.
any thoughts?

Maybe I am stupid but if you delete the imagefolder, it will be gone. You can set your default imagefolder: goto Media-> Camera-> Settings-> Use Memory-> Card. You can also backup your card to PC, reformat the card in your phone, because it makes default maps for images, video, audio,.........and then copy your images back to the specific folder.

• "Media offline" - when it's not, and presets missing!

I'm working on a project in PP CS5 (Mac) which has footage from a Canon DSLR and a AVCHD camera. I opened it and all of the AVCHD footage is shown as "media offline" even though the .MTS files are all in the same place as they were when I was previously working with those files. PP won't let me relink to the files because it says the files are not a compatible file type - which is ridiculous seeing as I've been working with those source files just recently. The files are stored in a folder on my desktop, not on an external drive.
In addition to this, it looks like some of my sequence presets are missing - the DSLR presets seem to be non-existant! This is not good! Has an adobe update gone wrong?!
Any suggestions as to what's causing this, and a solution? Thanks!

Sounds like you've got more than just a "reversion" problem to worry about... you seriously need dedicated drives for your footage, especially working with HD! Don't EVER store footage on your desktop!

• Photosmart D110 saying it is offline when it is not.

My printer is saying it is offline on both my macbook and my imac (both of which are running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5) but the printer is not really offline for any of my other devices, it is working for my iphone. It also has no time printing if you have it connected by cable, but the point is I got a wireless printer for a reason and it is refusing to print via either computers. I have restarted it, restarted the computers, and restarted the router. I have also deleted the printer and reinstalled on both computers, still is says offline. I need to print and need answers.

I would take a look at the document below.
Printer Offline.
Let me know how it goes.

• App Store Reports Lion is installed when it is not...

I purchased OS X Lion from the App Store. I have downloaded it and went to install. The installation failed. I ended up erasing my drive and reinstalling Snow Leopard and then re-downloaded Lion from the App Store.  It was ready to install, however Finder was not so I restarted my computer. Now when I go into App Store it tells me Lion has been installed, which it has not been. How get it to install when it thinks that it has already installed?

Perhaps it's hidden?
From the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > View My Account
In the Account Information window click: View Hidden Purchases

• Recently, Firefox updated, page opens but then nothing, it will not continue and load up

I have Firefox browser on my laptop. It upgraded recently and does not work. Page will come up but then 'not responding' and remains that way.

Check the home page setting.
*https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page - Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' symbols
You can try to delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

• Why does firefox automatically go to work offline on my imac desktop computer and not on my laptop Mac.

Firefox goes to work offline when I do not want it to and I have to restart my computer every time in order to get my internet connected again. My laptop has the same firefox and it never goes to work offline.
What setting can I use to prevent firefox from going offline?

You can try to create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
Name: network.manage-offline-status
Value: false

• Why Are There Multiple Instances Of Firefox Preparing To Access Internet According To Firewall Log When I'm Not Launching Them And Nothing Appeared On My Screen

I had closed Firefox after briefly running it and then tried to reopen it anew but got a message that said "Firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
I logged off my computer, and later restarted. However, when I checked my Firewall log it showed that during the minute I had my computer on earlier there were about a dozen instances of "Firefox is preparing to access the internet" which were recorded just seconds apart.
I don't have the problem now -- restarting apparently took care of the issue -- but I don't understand why there were so many instances of Firefox preparing to access the internet when I was not clicking on it all those times, the one time I did I got a message that it already was running, and there were no tabs on my screen to reflect all those supposed instances.
Thanks for any insight that folks can offer.

Were that Firefox processes or plugin-container processes?
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/What+is+plugin-container
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes", try to exclude the cookies in case you currently have selected this.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Firefox will try to remove cookies created by plugins in case you clear the cookies and that can result in plugin-container processes getting created.

• Facebook went offline when I sign in Skype

Hello everybody,
I am running on MacBook Pro Mountain Lion (last edition), and when I sign in Skype my facebook log out. Is that normal on Mountain Lion (as my bro told me), or there is something by which I could fix it?
Thank you dears.

#Be sure Tools > Options > Content, "Load images automatically" is checked to display all images for all sites. In Firefox 4 and later you can click Firefox button > Options > Options > Content. If you do not want images for all sites to be allowed, you can leave the selection un-checked and enter an Allow exception by clicking Exceptions, entering the site URL, and clicking Allow for the site.
#*while on that panel, click "Exceptions" to the far right of "Load images automatically; if the site is on the list and shown as "Block", click the site in the lower panel and click "Remove site", then click "Close" at the bottom of that small Exceptions window.
#*See --> Options window - Content panel (click on "Content settins"}
#Load the site; if images are now visible, you do not need to continue, otherwise, continue with the follow steps.
#Click on the Site Identity button (the icon at the left end of the URL/Location/Address bar
#Click "More information"; the "Page Info" panel will open
#*Click the "Media" tab and verify that "Block images from (site)" is NOT checked
#*Click the "Permissions" tab. On the "Load Images" line,
#**at the far right, "Allow" should be selected; if it is not, click "Allow" (the options on the far right will be grayed-out as long as "Load images" is checked
#**"Use Default", when checked, will use your settings in step 1, above.
#Close the "Page Info" panel and test.

• Firefox shows an unknown certificate error while Chrome does not for same site

On a site at which Credit Card payment info is shown, Firefox is reporting a certificate error while Chrome does not. Prefer to use FF but need to know if warning is right or not. Have cleared the cache and still get the warning. This is new to FF as we've used it on this site for several years.

HI khetheri,
In order to better test the certificate may we request the certificate without the private keys? I have some backup from the security team if this is possible.
There is a temporary work around as well but I don't recommend turning on all certificates to make sure it is not a compatibility error(ish)
It is possible to check if it is being detected as a bad certificate in Firefox itself to eliminate compatibility issues.
# In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
# Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
# Search for browser.xul.error_pages.expert_bad_cert and set it to true to try the certificate normally.
Looking forward to your reply!

• When I google, say ovens and list of sites come up, 99% time when i click on any site a different site will come up, nothing to do with what I clicked on. I then have to type in the www address and it appears straight away. Thanks

What content?

Update to v3.6.17 by clicking Help | Check For Updates.
The reason for this is because there was a security breach at Comodo which is an SSL certificate provider recently whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were inadvertently issued. These allow a hacker to impersonate any site including online banking and the Firefox version you're running at the moment will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and beyond.
