FireFox on 10.4.11 Clients causing disconnect errors

Hi everyone, I am trying to support an old server for a school until their new Macmini server comes in.
We updated their eMacs (1ghz/900Mhz models) to 10.4.11, but their OS X server is still on 10.3.9.
They use a full user login to the server with profiles stored on it in a home directory.
When users go online with Safari they are fine. However, when the launch FireFox its slows to a crawl, and eventual they get an error box about server communication and asks if they want to disconnect. If a single user clicks that, it seems to take everyone off the server.
FireFox 3.6.x is on there (I say .x because I don't know beyond 3.6.9 as that is what I installed, if they updated). It is installed locally, as 10.3 can not run FFx 3 (afaik).
Now the OS X server only has 512 MB of ram, so I suppect it might be do to the users preference being placed on the network share, but I really don't know where to look or what to do. I tried adding Crucial memory (2x512) from my OS X G5 to theirs, but something must be wrong as it started getting the black shutdown message. Removed the upgrade and that went away. Sadly my G5 has no video/keyboard and I have no other system to test that memory.
Anyone have any idea why FireFox is causing server/network slowdowns and disconnects and not Safari, where I can look. I am basically trying to bandaid this until I get the 10.6 server out there and setup.
Thanks for any help, and I will see if I can get the exact error message next time I am at the location.

I am having a similar problem.
I just updated clients to Leopard.
Xserve is still running Tiger.
Now clients cannot search files on the server.
Apple support said Tiger clients used "cat search" instead of spotlight.
Now that clients are Leopard, clients try to search with spotlight,
but Tiger Server cannot search with spotlight.
He suggested looking for a 3rd party cat search for Leopard clients.
Any suggestions?

  • I am trying to install current Firefox 3.6, as I am currently running an older Firefox on my Windows ME, but I keep getting this error message: "Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE Setup will now close."--Please help?

    I have downloaded all IP changer Privacy software I have purchased and am trying to install it, and although it is made to work with WindowsME that I am currently using on my computer, it now says it requires Firefox 3 or above to be able to install the software. Therefore, I am trying to update my Firefox to current 3.6 but once Firefox 3.6 downloads it doesn't install. Instead I just keep getting the same error message: Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE. Set up will now close. Several times, I have also tried restarting the computer as the error message also recommended But I just still keep getting the same error message when I try to update/install Firefox 3.5. Please help/advise on how I can fix this problem. Many thanks in advance!

    Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever version of Firefox for Win98 / SE / ME.
    You can get it from here, but you are better off using K-Meleon (derived from Firefox) or Opera instead an old version of Firefox:
    [ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/win32/en-US/]
    You can try KernelEx to get Firefox 3+ to work, but it would be very slow with an old PC of less than 750Mhz. 3.5 and later supposedly doesn't work.

  • 5508 WLC on 7.4MR2- Clients getting Disconnected using CWA

    We are experiencing an issue with clients getting disconnected/time out from a wlan doing CWA.  The clients are iphones.  A debug client shows the error(Unknown Policy Timeout). This particular WLAN is used for provisioning with ISE. ISE shows the user authenticated the entuire time.  At first, we though it was the user idle timeout setting on the WLAN advanced tab, but after increasing that clients still get disconnected.  The disconnect occurs around 2 minutes.  Sometimes longer around 10 minutes.  Cisco seems to think we are hitting a bug introduced in 7.3.112 and will not be fixed until 8.0.  Below are the bug details and the debug output.  Has anyone seen this?  Any possible work-arounds? Thanks.

  • RDS 2012 - Slow Perforamance, random disconnects - The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error (0) in the protocol stream and the client was disconnected.

    We have an RDS environment configured on server 2012 with approx. 20 users connecting for remote app utilization across 4 different locations that are connected via VPN. Server 2012 has great resources from the virtual host so system resource allocation
    shouldn't be an issue. I'm thinking these errors are correlating with the performance problems. Any recommendations on how to effectively end these errors or to boost performance?

    Hi Shane,
    Do you have any progress at the moment?
    Regarding the TLS error code 49, it indicates a valid certificate was received, but when access control was applied, the sender did not proceed with negotiation.

  • Is there a way for internal DHCP Scope to release scope addresses when the wifi client has disconnected?

    DHCP scope is configured on a WLC 5508.
    I'm checking if there' a way for WLC to clear the dhcp leasing when a user is diconnected from wireless?

    Unless the client sends a DHCP Release upon disconnect, which is not mandaded in the protocol, the lease will simply remain until it has expired.  If you're concerned with running out of leases, you only have 2 options.
    1. reduce the lease time of your dhcp scope
    2. increase the network size to accomodate more usable addresses.
    There isn't a way to force a DHCP address lease to be "cleared" from the WLC simply because the client was disconnected.

  • Firefox v.4 causes galaxy error when attempting to load Yahoo

    Downloaded new version. It seems to have problems with codes now. No website looked or functioned the same, and some (like Yahoo) couldn't load at all: "Failed due to a client side Galaxy error". Google was OK, though. That was the only one that wasn't affected, based on my quick attempt at about 6 different sites before giving up.
    Couldn't find anything to help in the troubleshooting section.
    Went back to the old version. Everything fine for now, but I know I'll be forced to upgrade soon.

  • Message server hogs CPU when clients are disconnected

    Hi, I have a problem where java process for the Sun One Message Queue (3.0.1) hogs the cpu when a client is disconnected. I am trying to use the MQ in an environment where clients might crash and try to reconnect in an unpredictable fashion. Most of the time, when I kill the client and restart it, I do not see the problem. Sometimes, however, doing so makes the java process of mq take almsot 100% of Cpu and it does not go down unless i kill the mq process.
    I am using asynchrnous message listeners with transactions, on a persisted queue, although i saw this problem when transaction was disabled.
    Does anyone have any idea what might be the source of the problem? I hope it's just a matter of configuring MQ correctly, but i could figure it out. Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Are you running the enterprise edition and
    using round-robin queues with multiple
    receivers ?
    If so, you may be running into a timing related bug
    in multiple receivers that has been fixed in service
    pack releases of the software
    You should contact sun support to discuss testing with
    the lastest service pack.
    If not, can you provide more information (platform,
    # and type of receivers, etc) on how you are using
    the product
    Thanks

  • Server Cannot Detect that the Client is disconnected, why?

    From what I've read, in order to make server "know" that a client is disconnected, you have to make server "write" to client socket to eventually catch an ioexception.
    So I write a simple server program and a simple client program. The server "writes" to the client every 10 secs. Now I start the server and client, I can tell on the client side that for about every 10 secs, the client gets the message.
    Now I terminate the client program. The server still keeps writing to the client. It's my understanding that after 1 min or so I should see an ioexception. However, 10 minutes passed and the server still keeps writing...
    Why is this happening? Did I miss something?

    I think it happens because the port is still open
    even after the client is closed.And you should not
    get IOException when you send a packet over a open
    port.Err, no, you should get a SocketException when you send data to a port which has already been closed or reset by the peer.

  • I am having problems with my iPod Classic crashing after a partial sync with my library.  It also disconnects on it's own causing an error.

    I have an iPod 120gb Classic That I bought to use with an Apple Universal Dock connected to my home stereo.  Since day one when I put the iPod in the dock it flashes rapidly between "connected, eject before disconnecting" and "disconnected, error".  Eventually it usually settles down and is functional.  Sometimes this flashing screen scenerio goes on for several minutes.
    This morning I got tired of putting up with this problem and tried to restore and update the i{Pod hoping that it would fix the problem.  So, I did the restore but when I tried to reload my music it stopped part way through the sync.  Additionally, it seems to disconnect on it's own during sync and updates.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!

    I had the same issues with my iPod touch & iPhone. It's a known issue with the touch & Linksys G routers. Go into settings on the touch & do the following.
    1. Settings - wifi - linksys
    2. Erase your DNS settings & input same numbers as in router
    Settings.
    3. Http proxy should be
    in off position.
    4. Close out & open safari you should now have a wireless
    connection.

    and lots of them, for a few minutes and then it stops.  When I search around for solutions for this I see "contact TAC" repeatedly.  Can anyone help me determine if I have a cm problem or a network problem.  He did reboot the cluster 12 days ago and it didn't stop the problems.  The disconnect errors related to all components of the phone system (cucm, cuc, uccx, cups) and have been anything from "SDL link to remote application is out of service", "OUT-OF-SERVICE AppID : Cisco UP Presence Engine ClusterID", "
    The Cisco UP Presence Engine service on the peer node of a subcluster has failed AppID : Cisco Syslog Agent ClusterID", "user 2 ntpRunningStatus.sh: Primary node NTP server, SVUCCX01, is currently inaccessible or down"
    So its just like all communication breaks and then comes back again.  I'd like to do as much leanring as possilble with this and not just run to TAC.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Dustin,
    Please see the explaination for the error you are getting:-
    CCM_CALLMANAGER-CALLMANAGER-1-SDLLinkOOS : SDL link to remote application is out of service  Remote Application IP Address [String] Unique Link ID [String] Local Node ID [UInt] Local Application ID [Enum]Remote Node ID [UInt] Remote Application ID [Enum]
    Explanation   This alarm indicates that the local Unified CM has lost communication with the remote Unified CM. This alarm usually indicates that a node has gone out of service (whether intentionally for maintenance or to install a new load for example; or unintentionally due to a service failure or connectivity failure).
    Recommended Action   In the Cisco Unified Reporting tool, run a CM Cluster Overview report and check to see if all servers can communicate with the Publisher. Also check for any alarms that might have indicated a CallManager failure and take appropriate action for the indicated failure. If the node was taken out of service intentionally, bring the node back into service.

    CallManager
    The most common Lost communication for CallManagers could be Callmanager server hang, network problems or high CPU
    You can use RTMT to monitor this.
    CM servers keep a TCP connection to other servers in the cluster. When that TCP connection is broken due to network connectivity or lack of server resources, the above error is generated.
    Also the sdi traces you have provided won't be useful to analyze the problem but rather please take detailed sdl traces.
    If possible then take SDL detailed traces with sniffer filtering TCP port 8002 in order to find out if this is a Network problem or not.
    Sometimes due to highly fragmented disk can cause heavy disk I/O utilizing all the CPU.
    Was there any upgradation or migration activity was carried out in network?
    Please check the server NIC and switch NIC or other NIC have the same speed/duplex settings.

  • Quicktime plugin disconnect error in Snow Leopard

    I have a bit of a problem with Quicktime X in snow leopard. We use a Codian bridge quicktime stream for classes at our college and Snow Leopard has stumped me.
    A problem we run into on occation is the -3184: Disconnected error when some clients are behind firewalls due to UDP streaming. Now normally this is a quick fix as you just go under your quicktime preferences and set your transport protocol to HTTP.
    Unfortunately with quicktime X apple has seen fit to completely remove any preference adjustments. Now I know you can install quicktime 7 from the disk, but this does not give the preferences back. Does anyone know how to force quicktime 7 to be used for streaming media in firefox instead of QTX? Or how to get preferences back? Or heck even to completely cripple X and just use 7?
    I've got a lot of Mac using students that are stuck without classes right now.

    Well. I guess I wasn't as helpful as I thought I could be.
    Obviously the options are available to me because of the way I upgraded from Leopard (from Tiger, Panther and Jaguar) to Snow Leopard. Heck. I still have a working copy of QuickTime 6.5.2 on this Snow machine because it offers features not found in version 7.
    My only suggestion to you would to be upgrading a machine that previously had Leopard (and QuickTime Player Pro) to Snow Leopard OS.
    I don't really understand this issue and it may be more complex than I can figure out. All of the codecs (compressor/de-compressor) should be somewhere on your machine otherwise you couldn't view a file with these "legacy encoders". It's just that a QuickTime export doesn't give you the option to "use" (compress) them.
    Is there a technical reason why you need Sorenson Video 3 encoder?
    Here is another of my older Web pages that uses Sorenson Video 3 (in part):

    Does it work for you?

  • Mass disconnection : Error 44 in SM21

    Hi<BR>
    <BR>
    I have a mass disconnection for my Japan users with the System Log (SM21) showing Error 44, and Error 5.<BR>
    <BR>
    Error 44 is Error in SNC layer (Secure Network Communication). I have checked the documentations and forums, it is usually caused by time synchronization between the server and client. However, we just did a time synchronization for all the servers 2 weeks ago. Are there other possible causes for Error 44?<BR>
    <BR>
    And for Error 5, I can hardly find any more detail information regarding this error, other than Internal Error. I have searched the SAP documentation and the forums, but there are no hits at all. Anyone can share their experiences in fixing this error?<BR>
    <BR>
    I have forgotten to add that this issue seems to happen around 5pm to 6pm.<BR>
    <BR>
    Thanks in advance.<BR>

    Hi Ankit,
    This problem usually occurs on Windows-based application servers that have a large number of configured work processes (more than 50). This problem cannot usually be reproduced. This response is caused by a long initialization phase of the work processes in the systems described above. You execute initialization of the work process in a critical section that is protected by a semaphore. If you perform a lock operation shortly after the system starts, the work process that executes this lock operation requests the same semaphore. If many work processes request this semaphore in the initialization, the system cannot perform the lock operation and it terminates with the syslog entry mentioned above. The problem no longer occurs after the work processes are initialized.

  • "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error message and recent firefox update

    "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error message is continuously popping up after the recent firefox update. I have nearly exhausted every possible solution to the problem as seen from the support page for this error message. I know someone who has the same issue on their computer and it also started right after the recent big update. Does the update have anything to do with this reoccurring issue? Is anyone else having this problem? Any other ideas on how to fix it? It would be great to get some help.

    From what I have been reading from other posts on this forum, the
    issue may be caused by the clear history settings.
    Press the '''<Alt>''' or '''<F10>''' key to bring up the tool bar.
    Followed by;
    Windows; '''Tools > Options'''
    Linux; '''Edit > Preferences'''
    Mac; ''application name'' '''> Preferences'''
    Then '''Privacy'''.
    The button next to '''History''', select '''Use Custom Settings'''.
    At the bottom of the page, turn on '''Clear History When Firefox Closes.'''
    At the far right, press the '''Settings''' button. Turn on ONLY '''Cache''' and
    '''Form And Search History''' leaving the others off.
    This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up.
