Firefox on iMac 27" screen - menu on one side, window on other

Love the 27 inch screen!  When I open Firefox, however, the window opens in the middle of the screen, and the menu is on the far left.  I want the menu to be over the application.  It feels weird having to scroll left in order to get to Bookmarks.  Is there a way I can make the Firefox window open on the left rather than the middle?

Yeah, that worked, of course.  It worked so well, in fact, that I tried it on the window for e-mail, and it worked there, too.  I am betting this works with ALL windows on the screen.  I am also betting this is just about as basic an issue as a person might have, short of "can't find the shut down switch".
Thanks!

  • Why is firefox opening off the screen and to the side in Windows 7?

When I attempt to open FireFox 5 it hides off to the side and is therefore unusable. I have restarted the browser, rebooted the computer, and even reinstalled the program.

This issue can be caused by the Babylon Toolbar extension

  • Screen Flicker on one side

Hi, I use an HP  Mini 210-1099.TU. It has served me very well so far but since a few days the right side of the screen doesnt stop fickering. I have tried system restore to an earlier date and taken all steps as advised by 'Windows Help' regarding brightness but nothing seems to work. Kindly guide me as to how this issue can be resolved.
    Thank you!

    Dear Customer,
Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you.
Whether your laptop screen flickers occasionally or continuously, it's not only a distraction but it could mean that a hardware problem has developed. Troubleshooting the exact cause of a flickering screen can be challenging, but the cause may be something as minor as a loose cable
The inverter board provides the laptop's backlight lamp power. It does this by converting AC current to DC. If the inverter board is shorting out or failing, it could cause your laptop screen to flicker
The backlight lamp provides light to the LCD or LED laptop screen. LCD laptop screens generally use CCFL backlights, while LED screens use LED backlights. Your laptop's screen may flicker if the backlight lamp is failing or if the power cable from the inverter board is not securely connected
    Step 1
Change the refresh rate to match the capabilities of your monitor. The refresh rate is a measurement of how many times the screen redraws each second. Although this setting is related to older, desktop monitors, it can affect the quality of the Liquid Crystal Displays found in laptops. Right-click the desktop and choose "Screen Resolution," then click "Advanced Settings" and "Monitor." If enabled, place a check beside "Hide Modes That This Monitor Cannot Display" and choose a higher refresh rate from the list.
    Step 2
Update your graphics card drivers. This is the most likely cause if you've always had a problem with flicker. Look for "Hardware and Sound" in the Control Panel and click "Device Manager." Under "Display Adapters," you'll see the exact brand and model of your video card. Go to the manufacturer's driver Web page and search for this model to download the appropriate drivers. Alternatively, you can revert to an older driver if the flicker began immediately after an update. In this case, return to the Device Manager, right-click your adapter and then "Driver." Click "Roll Back Driver" and "Yes" to confirm.
    Step 3
Turn on Vertical Sync if the flicker occurs when DirectX or OpenGL is in use, for example, while playing a PC game. Vertical Sync, or VSync, locks the refresh rate of the application to the refresh rate of the monitor. Horizontal flicker is reduced, which improves image quality. For Nvidia cards, VSync is found in "Manage 3D Settings." For Intel, look for "3D Settings" or "Asynchronous Flip." On ATI/AMD cards, turn on "Wait for Vertical Refresh."
    Step 4
Lower and raise the laptop screen repeatedly to determine if the flicker is related to movement. Hardware failure is the likely cause when flicker occurs only when the laptop moves. Most likely, the screen cable is loose or damaged, but the inverter and backlight can also cause this problem. The laptop needs to be opened in order to confirm the problem, but do not attempt this unless you are familiar with PC repair and do not mind voiding the warranty. For the best results, take the laptop to a licensed technician or send it back to the manufacturer.

  • Screen darker on one side

My iPAD 2 seems to be slightly darker on the left-hand side of the screen (when in portrait mode) and darker on the top (when in landscape). Has anyone else noticed this?

If your backlight or screen is already starting have problems, i would call apple, or take it to an apple store, this is something which points to further problems. Im sure apple would be happy to help you out with this, especially since it is so new...

    Hi,
Open System Preferences / Exposé & Spaces then select the Spaces tab.
If "Enable Spaces" is selected, deselect that box.
Now click the Exposé tab. Check to see if you have any *Active Screen Corners* activated.

  • SC-LC One side green LED other side amber LED

    Hi all,
    This is the situation.
    I have connected some switches: WS-C3560-48PS-S, WS-C3550-24-EMI, WS-C3508G-XL-EN and WS-C2950G-24-EI.
    WS-C3560-48PS-S (GLC-LH-SM) -  LC-SC (Single mode fiber) - WS-C3508G-XL-EN (WS-G5486)
    WS-C3560-48PS-S (GLC-SX-MM) - LC-SC (Multi mode fiber) - WS-C3550-24-EMI (WS-G5484)
    WS-C3560-48PS-S (GLC-SX-MM) - LC-SC (Multi mode fiber) - WS-C2950G-24-EI (WS-G5484)
The LED's on the WS-C3550-24-EMI, WS-C3508G-XL-EN and WS-C2950G-24-EI are green.
The LED's on the WS-C3560-48PS-S are amber.
    The LED's are blinking.
I tried different WS-C3560-48PS-S switches, different SFP modules.
    See attachment for topology.
Can anyone tell me what's goning on here?
    Gr Kajo

Solution: I dind't cofigured trunk links on the WS-C3560-48PS-S. So there was a mismatch between the ports.

  • There are to big "rings" appearing in the middle of my iMac 27" screen.

There are to big "rings" appearing in the middle of my iMac 27" screen. They are one visible when the screen is dark. Its very annoying. Does anybody know how i can get rid of these ring-shaped marks in the middle of my screen?

If the marks are on the glass rather than the actual screen, it's an easy job (if you are careful) to remove and clean the glass. Not sure of the implications on your warranty, if you're still covered.
Here's a short video. I've done it a few times on various Macs without problems. I'd turn the Mac off before doing it.

  • Earphone/headphones when plugged in, only plays one side/is the jack broken and if so, is this an expensive fix?

I have tried 6 sets of headphones and the right side of the music doesn't play. I think that the connector is bad. Is this expensive to fix?

Check the jack recepticle for any debris that might interfere with the connection.
Also, check the Settings app > General > Accessibility > Hearing to see if Mono is tunred on and the mono balance set to one side of the other.
Lastly, try a rest: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • Swap 15" iMac flat screen monitor for 17" one?

My mom has 2 older G4 iMacs, the one with the hemispherical base. One of them has a 15" monitor (that's the one that works); the other iMac has a 17" monitor, but the power supply on that one is dead.
Can we swap out the 15" monitor for the 17" one? Any links for how to do that?
    Thanks,
    Barbara

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm fairly sure the part numbers are different for the PSUs on these two iMacs. Could you let us know the processor speed against screen size for each one so we can check that out? ( menu > About this Mac)

  • On Firefox Nightly (64bit) full-screen is not full-screen. Menu bar and tabs appear above the full-screen.

I'm running Debian Testing (Jessie) with a 3.15-10.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 kernel. I'm running Mozilla Nightly 34.0a1. All is well except in full-screen mode. The problem is present whether running a video using the Flashplayer or HTML5. When playing a video and selecting "Full-screen mode" Firefox goes into full-screen as usual, except... the tab bar appears above the so-called "full" screen and so does the navigation/search bar which appears just below the tab bar and just above the video itself.
I can make this problem disappear by creating a new profile which is basically a "blank slate" (nothing added). I can show you a screen-shot if you wish to see the non-full-screen yourselves.

    Hi dsiddens
You can right-click empty space on the Tab bar or Navigation Toolbar to open the toolbar context menu and set a tick on "Hide Toolbars".

  • Unable to recover Mavericks via Time Machine on iMac (2011). I have one Time Machine backup from this week On new Time Capsule. I already attempted safe boot and NPRAM reset. Hard drive and permissions verified as ok.

Some more history - I'm not too techie so added everything in I thought might be significant!
    - Installed Mavericks on iMac in October 2013
    - experienced regular low memory issues - used Memory Clean app as a workaround
    - last week decided to upgrade installed memory from 4gb to 16gb. Faster loading but still running out of memory - just takes longer to do so.
    - also last week purchased 2gb Time Capsule (to back up 660gb on 1TB drive)
    - one successful Time Machine backup completed last weekend.
    - I decided to try and clear some space, tidy my folders, old music files,  delete duplicates etc (Not system files)
    - then tried out 'time machine restore' just to test it out. Deleted files and folders recovered ok using Time Machine menu (the one that looks like outta space)
    - yesterday, Avast Anti-Virus flagged virus detected (sorry, I didn't manage to capture details) and quarantined file, but I couldn't get any windows to respond so forced Mac to shutdown.
    - attempted regular reboot , system hanging on white/ apple symbol screen.
    -  attempted Safe reboot - reboot stalls at mess 'BootCacheControl: unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist no such file or directory.
(I don't know if this is significant)
    - attempt NPRAM reset, reboot hanging at Apple symbol still
    - attempted reboot into Disk Utility. HD drive verified ok. Permissions checked and Safari permissions fixed (only)
    - finally attempting restore from Time Machine Backup via Disk Utility. Stalls at 'select a backup source'. Menu is 'searching for Time Machine Backup....'
Nothing is listed, after a few mins machine just goes to sleep.
My Time Capsule and networks are all switched on. No idea what to try next!

Most of the problems like this that people report on this forum are due to bad "utilities" like Memory Clean and Avast.
Your Mac probably didn't have a virus. There has never been an OSX virus "in the wild". Third party antivirus software is of very dubious utility on Macs. Macs are not PCs. OSX has anti-malware protection built into it already.
Do you have any other third party "utilities" on your Mac, such as CleanMyMac or MacKeeper?
Is the RAM you installed the recommended type of RAM for your Mac?
Take a look at this page: Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
But your OS may be damaged beyond repair, or beyond what disk utility is able to repair.
In that case you have a few options:
There is a small chance that a (reputable) third part utility like Techtool Pro 7  may be able to fix your OS.
Try to boot into single user mode (restart, hold down ⌘S until you see a black screen with white text) and repair your hard drive. Here's a reference with directions: Repair Your Hard Disk in Single User Mode | Everything Macintosh
bite the bullet, boot into the recovery partition or internet recovery, and erase your HD, reinstall Mavericks from scratch, and start over. Your documents are probably still on your Time Machine Backup. I wouldn't reinstall the documents via a migration- you don't want to reinstall bad system files along with your documents- but you could copy them one by one back to your internal HD. And most importantly- don't reinstall any third party "utilites" like Memory Clean or Avast (or any other third-party antivirus software, for that matter).
