Firefox only opens on my extended desktop.

I run a smart board in my classroom through my MacBook Pro. When I open Firebok, I can only get Firefox to open on the extended desktop. It will not open on my main screen. The only time i can get Firefox on my main screen is to disable the extended desktop or drag it over to the main desktop.

  • Firefox won't open/run on extended desktop/multi monitors

    Firefox will not boot and run successfully in any extended screen/desktop mode--only when using the local laptop screen itself.
    I wiped an older version, but even the installation sequence ran like cold molasses in... Had to drag windows to cause them to refresh, so I could see what options to click. Windows did not appear responsive to mouse clicks. They were, but took minutes to respond.
    Finally, I tried a Windows key-P and chose Disconnect Projector--and there was Firefox. But back at extended display, Firefox refuses to run.

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.

    If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Firefox only opens as adminstrator

    I can only open firefox as an administrator and it has no issues that way that I can tell anyway. If I try to do it any other way it thinks briefly then nothing no crash report just does nothing. Lat time it did this the time and date was incorrect once I fixed that it was fine but not this time,

    Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
    *Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    *It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

    Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
    If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • After installing the newest update, when I try to open a saved page Firefox only opens the homepage. Reset didn't help.

    I am a web designer. I have saved pages that I update and upload to websites all the time. Now, after the latest updates, when I try to open these saved pages it only opens Firefox and loads the homepage. The saved page does not open. If I'm to keep using Firefox, which I would prefer, I need this functionality back.

    What do you have set up as the default application for .html files? Or are you opening another kind of file that isn't normally/automatically associated with Firefox?
    If you drag and drop the file onto a tab (which normally would replace the page there with the local file), what happens?
    </blockquote>
    I had tried all the suggestions. None of they helped. I can open the files by browsing for they after Firefox is open. I was able to spend some more time troubleshooting the issue yesterday afternoon. The issue has to do with the 64-bit file system. When I right click and select open with and then point it to the installation folder in the Program Files (x86) folder, it still won't open the file just opens to my home page. I did notice that when I was browsing for Firefox.exe that it defaulted to the Program Files folder not the Program Files (x86) folder. So I renamed the exe to LittleFox.exe and browsed for that exe and Firefox would then open the files as expected. So my guess is that it is a registry setting that is all the headache. I don't have time to run that problem down but will just use my workaround by renaming a copy of the exe and use that with my file association.
    Thanks

    Can anyone please help? Every time I start up my imac OSX 10.6 desktop my Aperture 3 programme opens up without being requested. Is it possible to stop this happening and only allow Aperture to open by using the desktop icon? Thank you for any assistance anyone may be able to give.
    Best regards, John.

    because there is absolutely no mention in my System Preferences of either Users & Groups nor Start Up Items.
    John,
    William's solution was much easier - just for completeness sake: The preferences panes to edit your startup items moved between the Mac OS X updates: I forgot that the "Users&Groups" preference pane used to be called "Users" in Mac OS X 10.6; it is the panel that you use to create new User accounts; and earlier systems had a separate preferences panel "Login" to enable and to disable the applications that are launched at login. Both are now combined in "Users&Groups". Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase with the wrong Preferences panel.

  • Trying to open local files(gif, html, swf etc) with Firefox only opens a blank window.

    Currently on FF33.0.2
    I used to open gif and swf files(also doesn't work on saved html files) on my local hard drive with Firefox just fine before by just manually double clicking the file and FF would automatically run it just fine.
    Now it only opens up a new window in the startup page.
    Any other browser(Chrome, IE) that I use to open them works.
    Also, I can manually force FF to run the files by dragging or using the [Open] command in the menu bar but then it's much more convenient if it runs them automatically by clicking the files themself.

    Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.

  • When I open and close firefox about 3 times, I get the blue screen of death. Why? Also Firefox only opens every second time, and I have to close it manually to fix the problem. How can I avoid this?

    I have to close the firefox from my task list. Before I do that I can't open any web browser. This is really annoying, and I have had this problem only after using Firefox 4.

  • Firefox only opens when a I run as administrator, crash report comes up when I click on icon and does not open. Help

    "when i started my computer today for the first time I clicked on the firefox icon and the crash report came up. I shut down normally last night. I clicked on start firefox multiple times and the crash report kept coming up. I restarted my computer same result. I then tried run as admininstrator and it loaded normally. Now the only way I can run firefox is if I run as administrator. I tried a new profile and that did not work. Same result.

    You say click on a file but your do mean you are double clicking to open the file, right?

  • Firefox only opens to the task bar but flies off the monitor when clicked. Why?

    Windows 7; firefox updated

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
    ''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
    ''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Firefox only opens with blank page regardless of any websites I go to.

    I've tried re-installation, but to no avail. Even updated to the latest version to ensure that I don't miss out on anything. Nothing I've tried could work, I've restarted the computer for about 6 times and I think the only alternative left is for me to reboot my system, because evidently, the same problem persists in my IE as well. Only my Google Chrome and Opera seems to be working fine.
    This problem happened after I installed the automatic updates on windows, I've tried uninstalling the update too, but it just opens with a blank page.
    On a sidenote, my G-Mail account has been continuously hacked by an IP address in UK from January till now. Do you think that's relevant? I'm sure I didn't download any malware/spyware nor key in any login creditentials.

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.
    See [[Firewalls]] and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls
    Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
    You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
    Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

  • DESPITE SELECTING "OPEN PREVIOUS TABS" IN "MAIN" PREFERENCES, FIREFOX ONLY OPENS THE HOME PAGE

    ''Locking as duplicate post, continue here - [/questions/755217]''
    The main preference option for opening previous tabs seems fail whenever I open the browser. Don't know if the copy is defective or has become corrupted. On my mac laptop this does not occur. Is there a fix for this issue?
    Thanks

    If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5 and later to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

  • On Linux platform, Firefox only opens up a blank window with no place for a URL

    I have an older Red Hat version of Linux which has worked fine for about seven years now. I have not done any updating since then, I must admit, since I seldomly use this platform for dowloading and searching gene databases. Now whether I call up Firefox from the taskbar or from the dropdown menu, I just get a blank window, if anything, even when I log in as Root. So I cannot access the Internet from this platform.

    That version of RedHat may not support Firefox 4 or 5. You may need to go back to Firefox 3.6.x, or maybe even Firefox 2, depending upon which version of RedHat you have.

  • Links in email not opening in Firefox, only reach homepage.

    When I click on a link in my mail program (Apple mail 4.3), I used to open Firefox on my homepage and also open a tab with the link.
    Since the 3.6.10 upgrade, Firefox only opens on my homepage. I have to then go back to the mail program and re-click on the link. I do not keep my computer on-line when I am not doing something there, so this has become a real bother.
    Anybody have any ideas?

    I do not use Firefox as my default browser, so can't test exactly, but in the Firefox Preferences/Tabs try selecting the box beside "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately".

  • I installed Chrome and uninstalled it, and Firefox will only open in Safemode after this.

    I installed Chrome, then I uninstalled chrome, and now Firefox only opens in safe mode. I have XP, and Firefox just updated itself to 3.6.8 despite the safe mode. I still use it functionally, but it's annoying. Yes, I am sure it is in safe mode, because the little box that says it is in safe mode pops up offering to disable things. It does not affect how Firefox runs at all (well, oddly, FF seems more stable, but it might have been the upgrade, too).

    i deleted the rdf and now the first window only (and any tabs in it) are maximised. i found this in the rdf
    <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#main-window"
    screenX="4"
    screenY="4"
    width="1008"
    height="461"
    sizemode="Normal" />
    i tried changing normal to maximised; no effect. either i need also to change the numbers (to match a maximised window) or ff ignores this. i want to be able to open different sites in different windows, and not have to maximise them manually. ff never used to be broken, why break this? what possible security flaw was fixed by screwing up ff to never open maximised unless u hack it or delete certain config files?

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
    I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
    I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
    Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
    So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
    Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
    OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
    HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
    Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

    I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.
