Firefox opening many tabs making PC crash?

My Mozilla Firefox recently update by its own when I opened it. After the update was done, Firefox opened with the Mozilla Welcome Page.
The problem starts when I click on the + button to create a second tab to begin a research. Suddenly the browser opens tabs after tabs until my PC end it with a fatal error, commonly known as a blue screen.
Now I can't even get in Windows because it just wont boot. It tells me my software is severely damaged and needs a recovery. I've tried the System repair over and over with no results, to finally end up with a Windows apology message saying that they can't really do anything for me.

I recently updated my version (not really wanting to because the last version upgrade deleted certain parts of the Norton software I have)...but months later it was fixed my Mozilla Firefox (as it promised it would...) Now, I went ahead and did the upgrade and it deleted the same parts of the Norton software.
Only this time...other issues similar to what you described...where Mozilla Firefox opens another window & opens (in my case) 5 tabs.... & for me, it's every time I check my email (Earthlink service provider)...I click onto a new or old email and that's when the second Mozilla Firefox window opens with those tabs. I just close the file and I am able to view my email by choosing the forward email. I have absolutely no idea why...and Earthlink technicians refer me to Mozilla Firefox.
I'm hoping that it fixes itself soon. The interesting thing about it is that the only email it does not do this to is from the email I get from a job link information notice from the State of California's Personnel Board website.
I've seen the "crash" report a couple times...not sure when...but I've just been making due until I can find someone who can help me resolve me problem too.

  • Some pdf & doc won't download... tried fixes under 'FF keeps opening many tabs or windows' but none worked... these files open in Safari & Google Chrome.

    Some pdf & doc files won't download. The "You Have Chosen to Open" pop-up appears but when I hit 'Save File", it goes away and the file is not saved. The corrupted files show up in mac download file as .part but don't show up in ff download file. Tried suggestions in "Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows" on this website but none worked.

    This is most likely Firefox's new "built in" PDF Viewer giving you the trouble.
    First, in Firefox, type "about:config" (minus the quotes) in the address bar. This will open the Firefox configuration file. You'll see a warning. Click that you'll be careful, and open the configurer.
    At the top there is a search bar. Type "js" (again, minus the quotes).
    In the list of results you'll see pdfjsdisabled with a value of "false". Right click it and select Toggle to make it read "true".
    Click Firefox>Preferences and under the Applications tab, scroll down to Adobe Acrobat Document. Click the drop down on the right side and choose "Use Adobe Reader (default)".
    That should take care of it for you.

    Is there a way to open a browser and it "starts" with opening many tabs?
    e.g. I open a browser - and it starts on 3 or 4 tabs?

    Leave them open when you shuit Safari down. It doesn't have a home page function.
    You might check the app store for some alternate browsers. I beleive there a few that will do this.

  • Firefox open spam tabs

    Firefox opens new tabs with sponsored ads,
    I have scanned my computer with virus scanning software and different software cited https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/697011?esab=a&as=aaq but find nothing.
    Then I did the same navigation with Chrome and Opera, but no tab ad has been opened.
    Finally I disabled the plugins one by one and I realized that with firebug disabled no longer the spam, it seems to open up once they parse the page when the keywords are found relevant.
    Uninstall firefox and reinstall it does not eliminate the problem, there are probably other folders to be deleted that I do not know.
    For more complete the tabs opened are only in Italian language, should not be a widespread problem, but most likely there is a leak in firebug extension.
    Also for completeness, I report the id parameter represented in get parameter in the url of some sponsored ads. zanox1170335.
    I dont know if the problem is really for firebug plugin, but i had only disabled this plugin and if some file can be usefull to you for analize it, i can give you.

    I'd like to know whether the news tabs are generated from inside Firefox or by an external program. To make sure links open differently, you could adjust the following settings.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''link.open''' and pause while the list is filtered. These should appear. What values do you have?
    (A) '''browser.link.open_newwindow'''
    3 = divert new window to a new tab (<u>default</u>) (checked*)<br>
    2 = allow link to open a new window (unchecked*)<br>
    1 = force new window into same tab
    '''*''' First checkbox in Options > Tabs
    (B) '''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction'''
    0 = open_newwindow preference honored for all new windows<br>
    2 = open_newwindow preference honored for all new windows ''except'' script windows with features (default)<br>
    1 = open_newwindow preference ignored completely (same effect as open_newwindow=2)
    ''By default, popups that specify a particular window size or turn off certain window features will appear in a new window. If you set this preference to 0 then all popups are forced to a new tab.''
    (C) '''browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external'''
    -1 = open_newwindow applies to external links (<u>default</u>)<br>
    3 = open external links in a new tab<br>
    2 = open external links in a new window<br>
    1 = open external links in active tab
    ''On this third one, try choosing 2 to force externally launched pages into a new window instead of a new tab in an existing window.''

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.

  • Firefox opens several tabs on startup...they used to name the site, now they just say Connecting w/spinning circle. ???

    Firefox opens several tabs on startup. These have always displayed the name of the site in the past. But now they just say "Connecting" with a spinning circle... forever. Hard to find the tab I want-

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
    If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and all open tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Firefox 17 crashes when automation testing is run. But works properly in Firefox 10. It opens many tabs while running and it crosses 50.

    Hi,
    When we run automation testing of our product, it works well in firefox old versions and IE. But when we run it in firefox 17 it crashes. We noticed that in firefox 10, each task in automation was opened in new windows and ran smoothly. But in firefox 17, each task opens in new tab and the number of tabs opened crosses 50 and finally crashes. We tried with various troubleshooting methods discussed in your blog. But no help.
    What is the change in firefox 17 that it makes each task opened in new tabs?
    Or what is the setting we need to set so that each task opens in new window?
    We have hundreds of test cases.
    This bug is a blocker for certification of firefox 17 for our product.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

  • I'm having firefox open my tabs from last session, but it also opens a bunch of additional blank sessions (lots of them!!!)

    I've got the configuration set to save my tabs when I close firefox and to reopen those tabs when I start firefox again. That part is now working correctly BUT I also get a whole bunch of additional firefox windows (not tabs, totally separate windows), blank. I've counted, and actually had almost 70 of these to close once. The number seems to vary depending on how many tabs I had open in the session I closed (I think anyway). It's a royal pain to have to close all those additional windows. Help! Thanks in advance.

    Either an add-on or a site you have visited corrupted your Profile.
    You should create a new one and try it out, if it doesn't help you can always go back.

  • Why does Firefox open new tabs when HOME is clicked?

    I just upgraded to version 29.0 from a 4 year old version and I'm experiencing a problem that I can't imagine how to correct. I have two home pages set in my config, so that when I open firefox I get two tabs displayed. My Home Page field reads "https://www.google.com|https://news.google.com" When I open Firefox I get two tabs, one for Google and one for Google News.
    On my old version, if I was in the first tab & navigated to www.hp.com and then later clicked HOME, Firefox would load that tab back to google. If I was in the second tab, it would navigate that tab back to google as well. The multiple Home page option was just a great help for initialization.
    Now, regardless of what tab I'm in, when I click "HOME" Firefox opens two new pages, sets the first to my first home and the second to my second home and now I have FOUR tabs open. Click home again and I have 6 tabs, again and 8 tabs, etc.
    There has to be a way to fix this. The HOME button is supposed to operate of the current focus, just as it does if you have a single home page specified.

    Hi Stan, what both Ed and I are saying is that the first of your home pages should open ''in the current tab you're viewing'' -- the way you want -- because that's what happens for us.
    Could you repeat the test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
    After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?
