Firefox opens 2 homepage tabs whenever I start it

If I got to an open tab and click a link, another tab opens instead of just going to the link in the already open tab.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

Works fine for me, I can simulate your problem by improperly closing Firefox.
The correct way would be to close the windows you don't want and then to exit Firefox through the File ("'''Alt+F'''") menu then use '''Exit''' or '''Qui'''t depending on your system.
But '''I can simulate your problem''' by closing the good window with "X" in the upper right-corner first (the one with the app-tabs) and then close the other window by any means.
You restart Firefox and open a window, since you closed without app-tabs there are none so you just see a window with your home page.
Firefox has some things added to Firefox 4 and therefore in Firefox 5.

Whenever I click on a link, firefox opens a new tab instead of opening the link in the existing tab. How do I correct this?

I open firefox and type in CNN(or any other item). When the link appears I click on it. Instead of opening in the existing tab, firefox opens a new tab.

I can no longer (since upgrading to the latest firefox) open up multiple tabs of the same page (something I need to be able to do when emailing and referencing multiple emails while writing one email). The only option it gives me is to 'switch to tab'.

I'll try to make this clear. I USED to be able to left click on a hyper link and the hyper link would open in a NEW tab. Now for some unknown reason the hyper link by default opens in the same tab (window). I have to right click the hyper link in order for it to open in a NEW tab. (Yes, my 'tools'> 'options'> 'tabs' are set to "open new windows in a new tab." (Please no answers telling me to get rid of the Ask toolbar because I don't have one.) Thank you.

How many pages do you have set as your "homepage"? 
Firefox allows for multiple homepages in separate tabs, separated by the pipe | symbol.

To get rid of the MySearchDial annoyware:
# Close all browsers.
# Go to the Start menu.
# Select Control Panel → Uninstall a program (or Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP/Vista/7).
# Choose Mysearchdial and click the Uninstall/Change button.
# Wait for Mysearchdial to uninstall.
# Click the Firefox menu (top-left corner).
# Select Options.
# Under Home Page click the Restore to Default button→ click OK.
# Go back to the Firefox menu.
# In the menu select Add-ons→ choose the Extensions tab →click Remove on the right of any extensions mentioning "Mysearchdial".
# Move the mouse cursor inside the search box at the top right of the Firefox window and click the down arrow next to the provider's logo.
# From the dropdown list, select ''Manage Search Engines...''.
# Select "Mysearchdial".
# Click "Delete" or "Remove".

I set the Ap Tabs but when I close and reopen they are not there. It just opens to my homepage tab again.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Firefox not scrolling or scrolling very slowly when i open a new tab, this just started within the last few weeks. Ive tried reloading firefox but have the same problem.

when i am using firefox if i click on a link that opens a new tab the new page wont scroll or scrolls very slowly. this has never happened before and i have had many many tabs open at once without any problem, now if i have just two the second one gives me these problems while the first one continues to work fine.

Firefox opens up 2nd tab on startup

I am running firefox 3.6.8. I have had no problems until recently. When upon startup firefox will open my homepage plus another tab. the secon tab is always some type of advertisment page and usually contains pop-ups when I try to close the second tab. I have checked my settings and firefox is only set to open my homepage and nothing else. Please help it is annoying and I fear it may be some tyep of malware.

To see whether this is being caused by one of your add-ons, try these diagnostic measures.
First, make a backup of your computer for safekeeping. To back up Firefox, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information].
Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.

How can I make firefox open with certain tabs?

I'm looking to make is so every time I choose to open Firefox, a few selected tabs open. For example, I open Firefox and a tab for Facebook opens, and tab for Twitter, a tab for news, etc. Wondering if there's a way to do this.

You can add the URLs separated by spaces to the target file of a (copy of) the Firefox desktop shortcut.
