Firefox opens a new window every time I click a link. I reset FF and it did not fix the problem.
When I click on any link, the browser opens a new window. I have searched the browser options to fix this and have not found a place to select a different option. I have reset Firefox and checked all of my plugins and have not found anything that seem to be related to my problem. Sometimes, Firefox will work normally for the first few minutes of use and then start opening a window for everything.
By normally, I mean that I click a link and it opens the link in the same tab that I'm browsing. Some links will open in a new tab, depending on the type of link. Mostly, they open in new windows no matter what.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

When I visit sites such as ESPN where the news and headlines change daily or even hourly for some reason my browser loads the site from a few days ago. I try to refresh the page but that does not fix the problem. I have cleared all history, cache, etc... that did not work. I added a ? to the end of the URL and that loaded a different page but still not the current new head lines. It's almost like it is stuck with the info from a previous visit.

Every time I try to open a new tab in my browser - either by using the keyword shortcut or the option under the file menu it just opens a new window.
This must be a bug in the new Firefox as I just upgraded and it is a new issue.
Very annoying!

I am troubleshooting an issue occurring on a family member's pc. Immediately after changing their "search" settings from "Yahoo search" to "Google search", they found that Firefox was unable to load any webpages. OK...ummmm, I'm running Mac OS10.4.11 (not so sure about the last two digits, but you get the idea). I installed the latest Firefox update maybe a week ago... my monitor crapped out yesterday, so I replaced it with a bigger one that I had lying around. I have used this monitor with this machine before, and had no problems with getting Firefox to open links that I clicked on in a new tab. As per your Help site, I checked the monitor's 'size' and it was as always. I even reduced the 'size' of the monitor, but no joy.

Why does FF open a new window every time I try to open a new tab?
I have tried to change this in preferences but it won't work.
Just to confirm, have you made sure that "Open new windows in a new tab instead" located in Firefox>Options>Tabs has a checkmark beside it? If it does, I would try running Firefox in Safe Mode to see if an Add-on is potentially causing this problem.
To run Firefox in Safe Mode:

I went through an Adobe update and when my computer rebooted, the default font for everything was in italics. For example, when I go to Yahoo.com, the headings for all the news articles and tabs are in italics. I tried going through the Troubleshooting steps to no avail. I am frustrated because I followed the advice of checking the default font under Tools, then I opened the browser in Safe Mode, then I checked to make sure all the fonts were available. So how can I get my fonts back to normal? The italics gives me a headache.
The usual cause of that issue is a corrupted or missing font that Firefox replaces by another, in this case a bold, font.
As a test you can try to disable the default font and choose a few different fonts (Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, Times New Roman) to see if you can identify the culprit.<br />
you will have to reinstall that corrupted font. -
Before I updated my computer I could drag and drop a new image from the internet to wherever I wanted on the desktop. Now when I download a new image from the internet it opens the "Desktop" finder windo. Also it systematically downloads the new image to be placed underneath the last downloaded/organized file. How do I stop it from doing both of these things?
