Firefox opens blank frames/dialogs

Hello,
I've a problem that sometimes the dialogs I open in Firefox are blank or the buttons are blank. It's quite hard to describe IMO, so I've made some screenshots: http://oi44.tinypic.com/rjfbkg.jpg
It gets fixed if I restart my browser, but it's quite annoying to do so every time.
For example when I installed the add-on that gets troubleshooting information, there wasn't an install and cancel button, but they were blank. The install button also didn't work and I had to restart my browser.
Thanks in advance!

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

This can also be a font problem that the font tables in Firefox somehow get corrupted if it sometimes works and then stops working.
If it happens then you can do a font test to see if you can identify not working (corrupted) font(s).

  • Dreamweaver pages won't preview in Firefox since last update (3.6.13); Firefox opens blank page only. I am running OS 10.4.11 on iMac G5.

    Previously both Firefox and Safari would display web pages created in Dreamweaver (MX). Dreamweaver is set up to preview by default in Safari (F12) and, using (F12) and the Command modifier key, in Firefox. Now the preview works only in Safari. Trying to preview in Firefox results in Firefox opening, if it wasn't already running, but only a blank page displays.

    That didn't work. The problem is now on both accounts
    That's an indication the startup disk may need repairing.
    Launch Disk Utility. That's located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
    If the disk needs repariing follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • Firefox opens blank windows, plus a normal window with my previous sessions, whenever I start (Firefox 6 on Windows XP) so how do I make it stop doing that?

    Since upgrading to Firefox 6 my Windows XP computer opens about 40 blank Firefox windows whenever I start or restart Firefox. I get my previous session (a single window with multiple tabs) but also these 40+ blank windows that I have to close. So I close them all, restart, and get same thing.

    Restore the default home page

  • Firefox opens blank tab every time a .pdf file is opened. How can keep Firefox from doing this?

    A blank tab opens in Firefox every time I open a .pdf file. I've noticed several people have this issue but no sufficient response has been posted yet. It is incredibly annoying, especially since I may open multiple pdf files at once and when I return to Firefox there are several blank tabs open.

    Are you using the built-in PDF Viewer (pdfjs) or the Adobe Reader, either in Firefox or standalone?

  • Sometimes firefox opens a blank page, just a frame and nothing else

    This is on a brand new laptop, I just installed firefox 25, I have not installed any add-ins yet
    nor have I installed any software except windows updates, and just activated the Symantec trial. (this issue happens on my old system as well which has AVG Antivirus 2013) I had 2 firefox instances open, one with 3 tabs open, one with 2 tabs open, I then started a 3rd instance of firefox which remains blank. I have not changed any default configuration yet but did install the flash plugin when requested at a website, I actually downloaded the plugin independently but did not feel like closing the browser do it installed off the prompt on the website.
    The tabs are boston globe epaper, aol weather, a yahoo video new item I watched, in the 2nd instance, news.msn.com and the add-ons manager. Other then this my only activity was viewing some pictures on google images and Reading some news stories on msn. This is Windows 7 pro 64 bit on a thinkpad w530. My old system was a Toshiba portege with windows 7 pro 32 bit. The above is literally all I have done on this laptop as I started using it this morning, applied the windows updates last night. I was hoping to get away from this behavior on a new laptop as I have been plagued by this issue on my old laptop but never bothered to report it as the old laptop had many years usage.
    The blank instance does not respond to a right-click and says mozilla firefox start page in the upper left corner border. I have not changed the default start page, In task manager, it shows as Mozilla Firefox start page. I just tried another instance and it opened correctly which is behavior similar to my old system, the blank page is intermittent and typically won't occur twice in a row. Processes tab shows 390meg memory use by firefox, 9.5 k by plugin container, 7meg and 67meg by flash plugins.
    Silverlight 4 and adobe acrobat 10 where already installed on this system and I see they need plugin updates, I will update these but it did not seem to matter on my old system

    Well since you asked, On my old system which I am still using, I experience
    the blank frame on a regular basis but usually only when I have about 20 or more instances open with more then 850 meg of memory in use by firefox 25.0.1, also it tends to crash when I approach a gig in memory usage. I never complained about that since that system is an older dual core that was in place upgraded from vista to win7 pro so it is a special case that may not be good for evaluation. I plan to move to the Lenovo as soon as I am confident it is stable then I will rack it out with similar usage
    and report any meaningful information.
    Thanks for asking.

  • Firefox opens three sided frame when you open it. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help.

    Firefox 5 cannot load properly. When it loads, it opens a blank frame with three sides showing (left, bottom, right). I say the frame is blank because it shows the blank desktop color inside the frame. Uninstall and reinstall was not successful.
    No crash id available as I cannot get an interface.
    Using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Toshiba laptop.
    I have a screenshot available if there is somewhere to post it.
    Other browser applications work with no problems.

    -> Start Firefox in Safe Mode by Holding down SHIFT key while Starting Firefox
    -> As an alternative method, press '''Win + R''' keys and enter one of the following in the Windows Run box:
    firefox -safe-mode
    OR
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
    -> Firefox Safe Mode window will appear -> DON'T SELECT ANY OPTIONS, just click '''Continue in Safe Mode'''
    Check and tell if its working.

  • Blank page shown instead of Open/Save As dialog box-CSV file download in IE

    I am migrating an application hosted earlier on Oracle 9iAS (9.0.3.1 BP1) to OracleAS 10g (10.1.3) with Struts 1.2.9. While the below JSP code worked for the earlier s/w stack when accessed using IE 5.5 SP2 or above, a blank page is displayed with the new s/w stack. What I mean by "worked earlier" is this. A "Open/Save As" dialog box would appear. Trying to "Open" would open a new IE window launching MS Excel and displaying correct data. Trying to "Save As" would display correct filename and extension in the dialog box.
    <%@page autoFlush="false" contentType="application/x-filler"%>
    <%
    try
    String fileName = "ABC.CSV";
    String strData = "A,B,C";
    response.setContentLength(strData.length());
    response.setHeader("Content-Type","application/octet-stream");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","inline;filename="+fileName);
    ServletOutputStream ouputStream = response.getOutputStream();
    ouputStream.write(strData.getBytes(), 0, strData.getBytes().length);
    ouputStream.flush();
    ouputStream.close();
    catch(Exception e)
    %>
    I tried some changes listed below:
    1. Deliberately introduced compilation errors in the JSP code.
    2. Changed contentType="application/x-filler" to various MIME types like application/x-download, application/vnd.ms-excel, removing it altogether.
    3. Commented out response.setHeader("Content-Type","application/octet-stream") and also tried other MIME types related to CSV/Excel.
    4. Changed Content-Disposition from inline to attachment.
    Each of the above resulted in an unacceptable behaviour compared with the earlier state:
    1. Blank page shown as if nothing was happening even in case of deliberate incorrect JSP syntax.
    2. Dialog box did show up with some combinations. But on trying to "Open" or "Save As", the dialog box shows up a second time. Then while trying to "Open", the contents get opened either inline or in MS Excel but with some additional garbage data like source file name.jsp etc. While trying to "Save As" the file name and extension take on the pattern <URL_Pattern>.htm where URL_Pattern would be "DOWNLOAD_ACTION.do".
    Some other information:
    1. This code works when accessed from desktop local container (Win 2000) but not when deployed on Unix env (HP-UX B.11.11.0109).
    2. Latest patchsets are installed for IE.
    3. The existing application is designed to work for ONLY IE 5.5 SP2 or above, so I haven't tried with other browsers. I have tried both IE 5.5 SP2 and 6.0 SP1.
    Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot for your valuable time..

    I have made it to work with the below changes:
    1. Changed the URL pattern for <filter-mapping> for *.jsp to /*.jsp
    2. Added <dispatcher>REQUEST</dispatcher> and <dispatcher>FORWARD</dispatcher>
    3. Everything else (code-wise) is as before.
    Because of these changes, the filter, wherein some headers are being added to the response, is being invoked appropriately now.
    Thanks for you time and suggestion though...

  • Firefox on Ubuntu Linux won't open PFD files (opens blank tab)

    Running Firefox in Linux (Ubuntu 13.04).
    When I click on any file (or email attachment) that is in PDF format, Firefox opens a blank tab and will not display contents.
    I saw a similar question for Apple PCs but it doesn't work on Linux and neither does the Windows fixes. This has only begun with the last udate to Firefox.
    Unfortunately like most people, I did the dumb thing and update then went nuts loading add-ons so it could be an add-on and not just the update.
    The same issue is occurring on thre PCs (AMDS and Intel) - one on Mint and the rest on Ubuntu

    Problem solved - it was caused by an add-on called "PDF Download 3.0.0.2)
    To fix - in Firefox :
    Click on '''Tools''' command (top of screen)
    Select '''Extensions'''
    click on "'''disable''' button beside '''PDF Download'''
    Close Firefox and restart it.
    Clicking on any pdf file should open a new tab now and the document will appear there.

  • Every time I open a new Firefox window a dowload dialog box opens

    Every time I open a new Firefox window, a download dialog box opens with the last youtube .flv file that I converted to an mp3 from www.flv2mp3.com and the box offers the options to open it or save it. I have to click cancel it every time (or try opening it or saving it) to make it to go away. If I open a new tab or new window while I still have the original window open, it doesn't do it. Is this a glitch in Download Helper or did I get a never ending script from flv.com, or what?

  • How can I get my FRAMESET page, which loads blank frames in Firefox 22.0 but works in IE7, to work in Firefox?

    This is my current page, which works in IE 7:
    < HTML>< HEAD>< TITLE>My Calendar of Events< /TITLE><br>
    < base href="C:\Calendar\2013\"></HEAD ><br>
    < FRAMESET BORDER=5 ROWS="60, *" ><br>
    < FRAME NAME="navigate" SRC="navigate.html" SCROLLING="NO" MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 NORESIZE ><br>
    < FRAME NAME="content" SRC="load.html" SCROLLING="AUTO" MARGINWIDTH=5 MARGINHEIGHT=0>
    < /FRAMESET >< /HTML><br>
    I later added the followinging lines, the 2nd in the <head> section (to no avail):
    < !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd" >
    < meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" >
    The frames seem to load in Firefox 22.0, as I can see the border, but no content is displayed. I CAN get the content to display in Firefox if I open the frames manually, either by typing in the addresses or dropping the pages into a window so it 'must' be the FRAMESET page. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    EDIT:
    I forgot to "break" the html code, so it didn't show in the question. Found the Edit option, repaired questin.

    How do i disable the open/save image dialog box in firefox? I want to directly save the image file to the drive without clicking on save option everytime when saving an image. I'm using firefox ver 35.0.1 for windows 7.

    Click on the Firefox menu. Then click "Options". Go to "Applications" tab. Search for jpg and png file type. You will find they have "Always ask" action attribute. Change it to "Save file".
    Hope it will work fine for you.

    Question
    Recently, whenever I try to open Firefox, I get a dialog box: Exc in ev handl: TypeError: brw is undefined (JavaScript Application). Firefox is definitely my default browser.
    After clicking OK Firefox opens.

    Doesn't work out for me either, so I keep it disabled, because it slows down the searches, and it won't stream its additions onto the pages after the first page of search results. Streaming or page zipping allows me to scroll down to the next page of search results without selecting the page number.

    (caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)
    Note:
    Deleting the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.
    You can rename ''localstore.rdf'' to '''localstore.rdf.sav''' to test if that solves it.
    Then you can restore the customization by copying ''localstore.rdf.sav'' to ''localstore.rdf'' if it didn't work.
