Firefox opens in offline mode and doesn't save my settings

When I start the internet, it always starts in "work offline" mode. So I have to un-check the work offline button and refresh the pages. Also, my customized toolbar settings are not saved. I add the tab group button and it isn't on the toolbar when I open firefox.

Try to create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
Name: network.manage-offline-status
Value: false
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

The work offline option can be found from Firefox button -> Web developer or from the menubar toolbar -> Work offline (Or at least thats what happens in Windows).
Have you any other reason for being offline; router off, firefox not dialing up or whatever. Or is security software or a firewall blocking firefox, or a network connection, or firefox setting etc set wrongly.

  • Firefox become in Offline mode and unable to open any page and when shut down it remains in processes and freez up, blocking another to be run

When I on my Laptop, Acer Aspire 5735 with Windows 7 Ultimate run Firefox all runs perfectly smooth, all is working as expected, but when I go to Sleep mode or Hibernate (Firefox remains open) after turning on Firefox is not active any more, all open tabs are there but surfing is unavailable. Firefox reports message that it is in Offline mode (but menu File > Work Offline is not checked and if I check it and uncheck it again it doesn't have any impact). Which means If I open new tab and write web address it wont open, if I click any link in opened tabs from before, it wont open anything and it will show message that Firefox is in offline mode. After that I shut down Firefox by using Close(x) button and it disappears from desktop but it remains in memory and active processes not allowing any other instance of Firefox to be run. Finally I shut it down on force (End process) and start another instance and all works perfect. I am not sure is this only my problem with hardware/software configuration so I wanted to share this.

This is a pain but I have resolved it. This is instructions for Windows 7 but it may be the same on other Operating systems.
Note: "''YOUR USERNAME''" relates to the account you log on to Windows with.
    # First go to control '''panel / folder options''' and ''uncheck'' ''''Hide extensions for known file types'''', ''check'' ''''Show hidden files and folders'''' and ''check'' ''''Show hidden operating system files'''' then click ''apply'' and ''OK''.
    # Go here :''' C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\''' and copy the '''Profiles''' folder to your desktop.
    # Go here : '''C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\''' and copy the '''Profiles''' folder to your desktop. You will need to rename this as you already have a Profiles folder so name it '''Profiles2'''.
    # Uninstall Firefox (''selecting to remove all user settings'') then go here: '''C:\Program Files\''' and delete the ''Mozilla Firefox'' folder.
    # Go here : '''C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Roaming''' and delete the ''Mozilla'' folder

    # Once installed run the ''''Registry cleaner'''' over and over until no problems are detected and exit the application. You may now uninstall it but it is probably one of the best free apps available as it has a better uninstaller than Windows does and controls which programs run when Windows starts without using the 'msconfig' command.
    # Now download the latest version of Firefox with your other browser and install it then run the application once and close it down.

Once you have done that open the largest folder and make sure there is nothing in there with '''... @security.compass''' written on it. If there is then delete it. Hold your ''left'' mouse button and move your mouse pointer over all of the files to highlight in blue. Put your mouse cursor on any one of the files, ''right click'' and select 'Copy' to copy them all to system memory and then close the folder.
    # Go here: '''C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles''' and find the folder ending in '''.default''' then open it. Now ''right click'' anywhere on the background in the main Payne containing the files and select 'paste'. When prompted to '''Overwrite Files''' and '''Merge Folders''' always accept and proceed. Once done, close the window.

Start Firefox and if all is well you should be working again and it back in the state you left it last without the bug.

  • When I install firefox version 4, it is in offline mode and I cannot open it. How do I get around this problem.

when I install firefox version 4, it is in offline mode and I cannot open it.

In version 3.6.17, click '''File''', then click '''Work Offline '''to remove the checkmark.
In version 4.0.x right click a blank part of the Tab Bar and then click "Menu Bar". This will reinstate the text links. Then do the same as above.
To revert to the layout without the text links, repeat the same steps.
Sometimes, in FF4, you can hit the ALT key to toggle the text links on and off, but I've noticed in posts from other users that it doesn't always work.

  • When I start Firefox, I get msg that it is in "offline mode" and need to "try again" to get online. Started after latest update 10.0.1

When I click onto the Mozilla Firefox icon and open the browser up, it doesn't automatically connect to the online server. Instead, a message appears that it is in offline mode. If I want to go online, I am instructed to click a "Retry" button. This then initiates the online mode.
It doesn't happen all the time but most often first thing in the morning and/or if Firefox has not been opened for a few hours.
Is there something I need to change in the Firefox Preferences under Network/Connection/ Settings?

None of these "fixes" seem apply to Mac OSX10.6.8 . Since I installed the latest update for Firefox I, too, am getting this offline mode and retry message every time I open the browser.
I am not a programmer, so will appreciate a fix I can understand and safely execute to make this terribly annoying message go away.
Work Offline is NOT checked but does appear under the file menu.

You can undo a lot of changes, either via changing settings or prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page or via extensions.

    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Firefox does not have a built-in "Run" option on downloads for security reasons. If you "Run" an item, your anti-virus/anti-spyware may not have an opportunity to fully examine the contents until it is already installed on your hard drive. Result: damage, if infected, is already installed on your system.
With that in mind, you can install the following add-on, but you accept the risk mentioned above ('''NOTE:''' the developer has not updated this product -- OR any of his other 7 extensions -- to be compatible beyond Firefox 3.6.x; therefore, when you upgrade to a more current version of Firefox, you may lose the functionality of the add-on if the developer does not update it.):

  • Why does my firefox switch to offline mode by itself, while i was browsing the internet?? is my computer hacked?

This has happened many times, with no apparent reason, i.e. when i tried to refresh a web page, or open a website, i got message to say that firefox was in offline mode (note, the internet had been working normal up to this minute), then i went to the File menu and I'd find that the "Work Offline" option had been ticked (but i did Not change any settings at all)
Btw, i am using Mac OS, and all the software are up to date.

Not hacked or such but if your connection should drop it could trigger Firefox to go offline.
For Firefox 3.5.* and 3.6.* users add this preference. Not needed if using Firefox 4.0.* as it is there and set to false by default.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website#Work_Offline_Setting
Just type '''about:config''' in location (address) bar
Right-click on the '''about:config''' page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: '''network.manage-offline-status'''

If you had a passcode on the phone when turning on Lost Mode, lost mode is supposed to use that passcode to lock the phone. When found, entering the passcode should unlock the phone. I'm assuming that's what you're trying to do, correct? However, if the phone is now saying it is "Disabled"...after too many wrong passcode attempts, then you have no choice but to restore the phone. Once disabled, you won't get another attempt to enter the passcode.
