Firefox opens last page when set to load another

In the settings i have "Show my home page" set to google.com when it starts.
But if i close a window and restart firefox it just opens the previous page i was viewing.

Is there a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder?
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default.<br />
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may see a name without file extension, i.e. user and not user.js.<br />
You can see the real file type if you open the Properties via the right-click context menu

Your previous tabs will not re-open or be available to re-open when starting Firefox if:
*your previous session was in Private Browsing mode; see --> http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Private+Browsing
*you use Clear Recent History (''Firefox button > History > Clear Recent History'' or ''Tools > Clear Recent History''); see --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History#w_how-do-i-clear-my-history
*you clear History automatically when closing Firefox; see --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History#w_how-do-i-make-firefox-clear-my-history-automatically
NOTE: Your third-party Plugins (Add-ons > Plugins) are not in the "Application Basics" (Troubleshooting Information) in the "More system details" of your original post. You should review but not change the Plugins as detected automatically by the software on this forum when posting a question.
If you problem still exists after checking the above, the problem could be caused by one or more of your Extensions or Plugins:

  • How do I set a specific page to open when I open a new tab in Firefox? I can open the page when initially opening Firefox, but not for subsequent tabs/pages.

How do I set a specific page to open when I open a new tab in Firefox? I can open the page when initially opening Firefox, but not for subsequent tabs/pages.

You can use an extension to set which page to open in a new tab:
    *NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
    *My Homepage: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/my-homepage/

  • Firefox 4 doesn't open start page when started.

Firefox 4 doesn't open start page when started. It opens the tabs that were open when I closed it. According to settings, it should open start page.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
If that didn't help then do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Firefox opens mutiple tabs when I open a bookmarked page. When I go to the next bookmarked page Firefox opens all previous tabs that I have recently opened

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Firefox insists on opening last page visited even though it's supposed to open on home page.

My Firefox insists on opening last page visited even though it's supposed to open on home page.
Bad job guys, this is dumb, I am disappointed.
I've followed instructions found in the following links with no luck:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/833603
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1019367
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1018231
I deleted sessionstore.js it worked once but the issue re-occured afterwards. I don't have the file user.js.

Make sure that Firefox closes properly to prevent Session Restore from reopening those tabs.
Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
You can leave the sessionstore.bak file with the time stamp appended that Firefox creates automatically in case of updating.
There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

  • When loading a new site using Firefox, why do I get a message that tells me that "firefox prevented this page from automatically directing to another page. Allow?"

When loading a page using Firefox, at the top of the page, I get a mesage telling me "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page - Allow?" This happens almost every time I begin a new page and Firefox will not allow the page to continue uploading. I have to tell it to allow every time, even on pages I've 'allowed' in the past.

The Redirection option is an Accessibility feature for people with Disabilities so that they will know when a page is going to be reloaded. It is not a Security feature.
IF you still want it, click '''Firefox''' button and click '''Options''' -> Advanced -> General -> place Checkmark on '''Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page'''
-> Click OK on Options window -> Restart Firefox

  • I'm getting this message: "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page." but unchecking the box for "warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" has not helped. I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 on Mac OS 10.6.3. M'aidez

Can't load Google Calendar. I'm getting this message: "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" but unchecking the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" has not helped. I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 on Mac OS 10.6.3. It's not reported as a generalised problem in Dashboard. Google Calendar opens and works fine on my 12" PowerBook G4, but this is a recent problem on my G5 13" MacBook Pro. Mayday!

No I'm not using NoScript, but I'm pleased to report that the problem got resolved by deleting the original bookmark, logging in again, opening Google calendar, then bookmarking it again.

  • How can I have Safari save my opened web pages when I quit so that when I open next time they will be there?

How can I have Safari save my opened web pages when I quit so that when I open next time they will be there? I can do that in Firefox automatically, but can't seem to find how to do it in Safari.  I'm thinking maybe it's just now possible yet?

From your Safari menu bar click History / Reopen All Windows from Last Session.
    Or..
Glims can  re open tabs from a previous session if that helps.

Compatible with Snow Leopard v10.6 and Safari 5+ and it's free.

  • Tab closes with no error msg when I click on "Allow". Msg: Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page. I had to uncheck the Advance/General/Accessibility option for it to work. Why?

Msg: Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page. When I click on "Allow", The 2nd tab closes with no error msg This was Home Depot redirecting to CitiGroup.
When I unchecked the Advance/General/Accessibility option to be notified of a "redirect" then things worked.
Why did clicking on "Allow" not work?
I posted step by step detail in the Trouble Shooting box below.

Thank you for your answer. It does stop the redirection notices, but now I have no idea if potentially unsafe sites are redirecting me. I cannot figure out why it has only recently started to happen on my home page though, when nothing has changed on there and I've had it set to show redirections, ever since I set up Firefox.
I guess I'll just have to make the decision as to whether I want to risk redirections or put up with the semi permanent notice.
    Thanks again mha007

How can I open a new page (using "Pages") when I already have another page open?  It just keeps reverting to the page I have opened already and won't let me open another one?

To make a new document, go to File > New From Template chooser and choose the type of document you wish to create.
To add a new page to an existing document go to Insert > Sections > Blank.

  • Firefox presents blank pages when I try to access my bank on the internet. I must click on "allow" several times to get through.

The bank page appears blank with the text "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page". I must then click on "allow" to work through a series of blank pages before reaching the bank page itself.
This has not occurred with any other URL so far.

Thanks for the feedback. As the link was a answer provided by a support person, it was specific to the platform of the user (asking the question). I should have picked up on that.
Rest assured that the support articles on the Firefox Help website provide the answers specific to the platform and version of Firefox it detects the user is running.
    Thanks again.
