Firefox opens websites when hard wired to router, but when using wireless I get a server not found message.

Firefox (3.6.10) opens websites when hard wired to router, but when using wireless I get message: SERVER NOT FOUND FIREFOX CAN'T FIND THE SERVER AT SEARCH.AVG.COM. My homepage is http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official. My anti-virus is AVG free 8.5.448. What can cause this?
If Work Offline is checked in Firefox File, I can get to Google search site. When I un-check it I still get the Server Not Found message

Did you check the connection settings?

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

  • Firefox (& Safari) open incorrect (undesirable!) website or I get a 'server not found' message.

Firefox (& Safari) redirect both Google searches and web addresses to an undesirable Chinese website (www.5542.com). They have both become very slow and often give a 'Server not found' message when accessing various sites. I believe it could be malware(?) or similar. I've tried to block the unwanted site but it keeps on appearing. I'm running two macs and it's happening on both of them. I'm not especially experienced with web jargon etc. so please speak slowly with any instructions! Thanks for your help. Andy

Thanks for your help Moses but these Malware removal links are for Windows and I'm on Mac OS 10.4.9 on the laptop and 10.5.6 on the main machine.
One of the problems is that I can't do too much Googling for help before I run into the www.5542.com or 'Can't find the server' problems. Any more suggestions or other useful forums I could try?

  • Firefox periodically shows "server not found" message for Verizon/Yahoo email. Often self corrects in 5 to 10 minutes ?

System is Windows VISTA. While on Verizon/Yahoo mail Firefox will lose the connection and shoe a "server not found" message. Explorer will connect with no problem to the email server. The problem self corrects with in 5 or 10 minutes but this may happen 5 or 6 time in a day.
Is this a Firefox problem with proxy access. Settings appear to be the same.

i forgot to mention , that when i striped this machine back down to 10.3.7 and before i re built i did do a hardware check with the original install Disks [3] and every thing came back clean.
the weird ness with the colors on window, if i pass a app like text edit over the area , the color will not cover the app but stay in the background.
when i first saw this color thing i had the preference pane out and was moving it around on screen and the colors were bleeding off of the preference pane onto the screen.
if you have any idea as to what is going on here let me know.
    thank you

  • "Server Not Found" Message when downloading Flash Player

    Hello,

There is no such problem when I use Internet Explorer, but my
preferred browser is Firefox. Is there any reason why Firefox can't
access the server? Or is there another site I can download Flash
    from?
I downloaded the latest Firefox version a couple of days ago,

    I use Windows ME.

If this is something inside omni.ja, I think you need to reinstall Firefox. Omni.ja is inside the program directory. I would get the installer and install Firefox manually. It probably would not hurt to remove the Firefox program directory first. You can get that installer here:

  • Exchange Server 'Not Found' message when adding

I was successful with Snow Leopard in working with my Exchange Server using the settings on my Windows machine and dialing in through the VPN.
When setting up my new MacBook Air that came with Lion on it, when I try to attach to the server the same way (not migrating, setting up new) it tells me it can't find the server.   It's not that it's the wrong version, just says 'can't find'
I can ping it by dns name from the terminal, so I know it is visible on the network.

  • IOS 5 Wifi Sync - When Mac wired to router but there is a wireless network

I can get WiFi sync with iPhone 4s to work when I turn on WiFI on my mac and select the same network the iphone is on.
Since my Mac is wired right into the router (apple time capsule), would I have to turn on wifi on the mac to have it sync automatically?
I have a 50mb down connection and I get great speeds so I plug mac right into the router. Would turning on wifi on the mac and selecting the same network the iphone connects to slow my mac downloads? Or does the mac know that its wired (even if i turn on wifi) and use that as the connection out to internet?
    Thanks.
Also, does the 4s connect to N networks? It doesnt show up in available networks on the iphone.

  • I intermittently (usually around computer start up) receive the "Server Not Found" message which usually loads the page when I try again

It doesn't happen with IE for the same pages. It has only begun since I installed v4 and now it is occurring with v5 beta.

Click the Firefox button, go to Options | Options | Advanced and in the Network tab, Offline Storage menu, click the "Clear Now" button.

  • FireFox isn't working right on my Mac. Sometimes it won't load at all( says server not found) and sometimes pics and video won't load. If I switch to IE or safari it works fine.

I just got a Mac ( I have always had a pc) and I loaded the most update version of Firefox on it. Many times during the day I will go to a website and it will get a "Server not found" message. I can't refresh the page and fix it, but if I go to IE or Safari the webpage shows up fine. It's not just the webpage cause it is never the same one and it can happen to any site. Also when using Firefox there are many times when I go to a page and not all the pics load or if there is a video on the page the video doesn't load. Again if I then go to IE or safari everything is there and works fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FireFox and nothing changed. I cleared my cache, cookie, history and still nothing. I love firefox so this is really frustrating. Any help please.

Did you ever fix this, because I am having the same problem

  • I get a message when going to any webpage "server not found" or "problem loading page". I click on try again and the page loads fine. This happens on bookmarked pages or manually entered urls. The issues started after I updated Firefox.

Server not found messages and problem loading page message since I updated to the latest version of Firefox. Usually will load the 2nd time after hitting the try again option.
Does not happen with Internet Explorer at all.

  • Server not found when switching from 4g to wifi and vice versa.

I've had this issue for a while across multiple phones and multiple versions of Firefox for Android, and it does not happen with any other browser (which is upsetting). Whenever I am surfing the web and have multiple tabs open, and I switch from 4g to wifi or vice versa, I always get a "Server not found" error on both existing tabs and new tabs. This is an annoying issue that I am surprised to see hasn't been fixed. The only way I've been able to fix it is to quit and relaunch the app. I have tried removing plug-ins and reinstalling, but it has not helped.
Anything I could do to alleviate the issue?

I just tried switching between HSPA+ aka 3G and WiFi on a Galaxy S5 running Android 5 and have had no issues but I think this may have been an issue in the past (I did a search for a bug in bugzilla.mozilla.org but couldn't find anything).
Are there any other details you could provide that could help us debug?
    e.g.
    # Are you using a proxy?
    # Who is your WiFi provider?
    # Have you tried other WiFi (e.g. the Wifi both at home and work)
    Cheers!

    Hello Roland,
No proxy on the phone or wi-fi network.
My ISP is Time Warner, but I supply my own router (Linksys e4200)
And this happens on every wi-fi network, at home and away from home.
