Firefox opens with home page tab and blank tab.

When I start Firefox (2) tabs open, my home page tab first and a blank tab second.

Does this occur other times that you navigate to your home page, such as:
* Opening a new window (Ctrl+n)
* Clicking the Home button or pressing Alt+Home on the keyboard
''If so,'' there might be an extra vertical bar character toward the end of your home page setting. You can check that in the Options dialog:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > General
More info on that:
* [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
* [[How to set the home page]]
''If not,'' it's possible that there's something odd in the shortcut you use to start Firefox. You can check here:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
The target field should have this, no more, no less:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

  • How can i make firefox open to home page instead of "new tab"? My setting are correct, but it will not open to the home page.

No matter what I do, Firefox will not open to my home page. It always "new tab".

You can try to delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case session restore tries to open an older session.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

  • When I left-click the home button, how can it open my home page in a new tab?

I thought it used to do that. I had to do a clean install of Windows, I believe I was only on FF 22 or 23 when this happened. Now I'm on FF 26 and obviously all my settings are gone.
I'm 99% sure that when I left-clicked on my home button, it opened my home page in a new tab. I know I can middle-click to get that affect, but it used to be left-click and I do that automatically now. But I don't want to lose the current window I have up, so something's wrong.
Anyone know how to fix this? Or an add-on to do this?

If you hold down the Ctrl key while left clicking the Home button then the home page opens in a new tab.<br />
You can also middle-click the home button like you can with any other link

  • Firefox opens the Home page instead of the link I have highlighted in my Email (Evolution) Opera works so it should not be Evolution.

When I have a HOT link in an Email (Evolution) and click on it Firefox opens my home page instead. I have to copy and paste to open a link from an Email. Opera opens the correct link. Am I forced to make opera my default.? I would like to keep it at Firefox. I have asked this question for 4 weeks and get no response from Firefox Support.

  • Firefox opens with different page.

Firefox opens with a different page, opens with a football icon and not the normal firefox icon.
    This has only started today.

That is a feature of the default Firefox Homepage. Last week it was a simple video game.
Do this to get rid of that image and disable it from loading new images in the future.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the address bar and press Enter.
    # Accept the warning, by pressing the big button labeled "'I'll be careful, I promise!'".
    # In the search box, paste '''browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl'''
    # In the search results, double-click '''browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl''' to open the '''''Enter String Value''''' dialog box.
    # In the '''''Enter String Value''''' dialog, press the '''Delete''' key so that there's no text remaining, then press either Enter or the OK button. ''As a side-effect, only default tips will be displayed below the search box, because new ones won't be fetched from the web anymore.''
    # Then type '''about:support''' into the Location Bar and press Enter.
    # Click the '''Show Folder''' button. A Windows Explorer window with your Profile folder opens. In that window, open the ''storage'' folder, then the ''persistent'' subfolder.
    # Then '''Exit Firefox''' with the Profile folder open.
    # Delete the '''moz-safe-about+home''' folder.
    # All fixed, you can open Firefox.

  • Link in emails to open the link in new tab, not a new firefox window with home page,

Link in emails open a new Firefox window with my default home page. How do I get Firefox to open the linked web page, in an new tab, as it used to do??
This is for Win XP, FF 17.0.1, using Outlook as mail client.

Do you mean the results from a search via the Google search bar on the Navigation toolbar or the Firefox Google home page (www.google.com/firefox) ?
For the Google website you can set your preferences on the Google.com page via the [http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en Google Search settings] link at the top right.
Results Window: Open search results in a new browser window.
You need to allow cookies for Google (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to save that setting, otherwise you have to repeat it.
For the Google search bar on the Navigation toolbar you can set the pref browser.search.openintab to true on the about:config page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • Following an amazon link and then accessing the page makes firefox open another amazon page in a new tab. How do I stop this

I have this bizarre problem with firefox and Amazon (com and co.uk)
If I click a link (open in new tab) to an amazon page the page opens in a new tab. Fine.
If I then select that page (click its tab) the page is displayed and then a new amazon page opens in a new tab with the url http://www.amazon.com/?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0&link_code=hom&tag=skipthemalls-20
If I close the new amazon page and return to the original amazon page the phenomenon does not repeat - not new window opens.
This does not happen in any other browser (IE or Chrome)
This does not happen on any other website.
I've scanned my PC (Malwarebytes and security essentials) and found nothing sinister
All forefox add ons are disabled. To be sure, I've started 'restarted firefox with add ons disabled' and the problem still occurs. I've even reset Firefox to its original state and still the problem occurs.
    So now what?
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Thinkpad R60 4GB

That page is coded to a particular "affiliate" (skipthemalls) and may have the purpose of setting a cookie to earn a cut of revenue from your purchase. If that is not caused by the site you visited that brought you to Amazon, it's hard to think of a reason for it to open. (Even then, you would think it would be processed transparently in the background.)
More generally, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Firefox STILL does not open the home page when a new tab is selected

I have just 'upgraded' to FF4 and expected that the irritating 'new tab homepage load situation' would have been resolved by now: sadly, it looks to STILL be around.
MS IE has been loading the homepage DIRECTLY when a new tab is selected for about FOUR YEARS now, so I'm staggered that such a simple but very useful feature is not available in Firefox.
    The obvious question is WHY??
In IE, you don't have to keep hitting the home page button to carry out a search in google when a new tab is selected, and IE does NOT need an 'add-on' to incorporate this functionality; it really is quite irritating that the function is still not built-in to FF, and the coding requiret to incorporate the function ain't rocked science Mozilla people - WHY has this not been put into effect by now?

Some people prefer a blank tab because it takes no time to load. Some people prefer their home page. Some people prefer a list of most frequently used sites. It would be convenient if all of these options were built in, but obviously no one stepped up and made it a priority.
By the way, another way to search in a new tab is: Using the search box (on the toolbar), after typing your query, either press Alt+Enter or Ctrl+click the magnifying glass. This opens the search in a new tab and saves that step.

  • Firefox opens a home page and then stops responding

I had no trouble until this evening when there was an update.
When I go to a website (I have tried a few) the home page opens.
When a try to open another page on the site I get the hourglass and Firefox stops responding. I have to close it using Task Manager and use Opera or Mousie instead. This started this evening. I was only offered a message to Microsoft.

Not really a reply just some more info. Task Manager shows two identical instances of FF. Both close when you try to remove one.
I decided to try reinstalling - Add/remove could not remove FF. The reason - it must have been uninstalled already!!!

  • Can't get safari to open with home page

I have set google as my homepage in Preferences, but Safari invariably opens with the last page I had used before quitting.  I've tried both "Set as Current Page" (being on google, of course), as well as typing in google's URL.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash
    Try resetting your home page.

  • Safari 6.1 will not open with home page

I can't find a sensible setting in Safari 6.1 for opening up and opening new windows.
I really need the product to open onto the "home page", and open new windows with the "same page".
    Can I downgrade?

    >>...open onto the "home page", and open new windows with the "same page".
There aren't options to get that - as you've probably seen, 'Safari opens with' has only two choices, & if you choose 'A new window' there, you'll get whatever is set for 'New windows open with'.

  • Why does Firefox open with both my Homepage and the 'Welcome to Firefox' tab, and how can I suppress the 'Welcome to Firefox' page?

When Firefox loads, both my Homepage and the 'Welcome to Firefox' pages open. How do I suppress the 'Welcome to Firefox' page/tab?

    Hi Sean,
    Try this:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
It's a bit more "technical" than most people want, but it should work.
