Firefox opens with my tabs from my last session even though my options are set to show my homepage on start up.

Whenever I open Firefox, it starts up with my tabs from my last session even though I have "Show my homepage" selected in my options for when Firefox starts.

I first thought that i had the show my homepage option selected but when i checked it had changed. Here is how to change it back....
1. Go to FIREFOX
2. Select OPTIONS under the OPTIONS tab
3. Under general make sure you have the 'When firefox stats: show my homepage'
selected
Then restat firefox

I installed a security program called Identity Finder whick requires a master password for Firefox on my laptop, which I like. However, even though my settings are to "Show my windows and tabs from last time," I have to manually add each link in a new tab each time. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Pure speculation, but maybe that Identity Finder program is deleting your browsing history which is how Firefox restores tabs and windows from the previous session. Check with technical support for that program or look at the manual.

  • Everytime I open my browser it restores my last session even though I have "when firefox starts go to homepage" applied

I open my browser and it restores all of the tabs I had open previously. If I click on a link within a window, it will open up another window with every single tab in the other window. I hope that makes sense. I have gone to options and clicked on applications and made sure that when firefox opens, it opens my home page. I have also tried exiting firefox by clicking firefox and exit. This has happened since updating yesterday.

    Hi eaglerabbit,
This is a pretty easy fix. Just go to ''Tools > Options > General'' and change the preference for what Firefox should do on startup. You probably have it set to load tabs and pages from your previous session.
If that doesn't work, you should look at the Knowledge Base article [[Preferences are not saved]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • In Firefox 5, New Windows open in the same window even though the options are set to open in a new window.

I have the options set to open new windows in a new tab. However, they do not.
For example, as I click on the various options for support on Firefox.com, each opens in the same window. Similarly for Yahoo. If I bring up the news page and click on various links, they all open in the same window. How do you get them to open in new windows?

This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

  • Safari 7 on Mavericks not reloading last session even though option in preferences selected!

    Hi all,
I'm going a bit crazy. Safari will NOT reload my tabs from the last session when it opens. I have the correct setting in oreferences selected. I have tried deleting the preferences in library, but all to no avail!
    Any ideas?!
    Cheers

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Safari/LastSession.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
    What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • When the browser opens, I want to be able to open all my open tabs from the last session or have a blank home page if there weren't any tabs to reopen. How do I set the homepage to do that?

When Firefox starts up I would rather have a blank page for the homepage if I didn't have any tabs from my previous session to open up. There doesn't seem to be an option for this. The choice is to either reopen last session tabs OR blank page but does not seem to allow for "if no last session tabs, then open blank page" If it does, then please tell me how.

It would seem if your choose "Show my windows and tabs from last time" '''''and''''',
*when you last closed Firefox, you had no web site open (just a blank tab), that it would open just that blank tab
*when you last closed Firefox, you had one or more tabs/web site open, that would allow you to "Restore Previous Session"
    #Have you tried that?
#If so, what is happening in each circumstance when you reopen Firefox?
    '''Restore Previous Session'''<br />
Open tabs are automatically saved when closing Firefox beginning in Firefox 4. To open your last session, after Firefox starts, click History > Restore Previous Session. For this to work
#You must be remembering history (Options > Privacy > Remember my browsing history).

  • Even though I have FF set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" every time I open FF it just opens the home page. Why won't it open my previous session like it use to, even if I have that selected as the default state?

Nothing more to provide. Simple problem not opening previous session tabs when browser is opened after being closed. Was working fine until the upgrade to 7.0.1.

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

  • Browser keeps opening with previous tabs from day before. How do I stop this?

Under Tools>Options>General I have the browser set when I open the browser to "open up a blank page" but it keeps opening up previous tabs from the day before. How can I stop this? I read the forum boards but either did not find it or overlooked the answer. I checked all my other settings and cannot find anything that would be causing this. Please advise?

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

  • Can't open iphoto file to edit in Elements 10 even though external editor is set

Right clicking on iphoto file, selecting "edit in external editor" resullts in spinning beach ball.  Each attempt at opening a file initiates a reopening of Elements even though it is already opened.

Can you open images normally in Photoshop Elements?  I would recommend including this information as well as which verson of iPhoto and Mac OS you are using to the Photoshop Elements forum.  It might also possibly be a problem with iPhoto but the users in the Photoshop Elements forum should better be able to determine where the problem lies.

  • Once firefox is opened my mac pro lap top starts to rev very high. This has not happen before. And I lost all my tabs from the last session. Has this been a problem recently and how can I solve it? I am trying to avoid my system crashing.

Does this start right when you start firefox or after you've loaded some pages? Are there specific pages that cause this problem?

  • Firefox opens with AVG Secure Search no matter what I do- how do I go back to my homepage tabs?

The Avg site appears with none of my homepage tab options available. I have deleted the program from my computer, I have deleted and reinstalled Firefox. It is still the only homepage I can get to start. I had never even heard of this program until two days ago

First - any possibility that pref is set in a '''user.js''' file? <br />
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file <br />
That will cause a pref to be reset when Firefox is launched - it overrides the '''''prefs.js''''' settings and about:config.
Any chance you did some mods that are outlined on Mockbox.net? <br />
    http://www.mockbox.net/configmgr-sccm/300-firefox-set-default-home-page-for-all-users.html
If you set '''pref("browser.startup.homepage","http://www.mockbox.net");''' in a '''''mozilla.cfg''''' file - you need to remove that pref from that file, or just get rid of that file altogether.

  • How can I make firefox open with certain tabs?

I'm looking to make is so every time I choose to open Firefox, a few selected tabs open. For example, I open Firefox and a tab for Facebook opens, and tab for Twitter, a tab for news, etc. Wondering if there's a way to do this.

You can add the URLs separated by spaces to the target file of a (copy of) the Firefox desktop shortcut.
If you exceed the maximum length the use a cmd file instead to start Firefox.
    * start "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" <url1> <url2>
